Programming the Yaesu FT-65 From The Front Panel

I have a friend, I'll call him Tuje (pronounced Tooge). He has decades of experience in commercial VHF/UHF radio communications. He wants to share his knowledge, but he also wants to remain anonymous. I offered to host his videos on my channel. So here is another video in an ongoing series of helpful videos, primarily relating to VHF communications, but certainly not limited to that topic.

Thanks to you both for this, it was so helpful! I'm a real newbie and missed an informal CERT net test not realizing that the settings I enabled for a fequency were not global, but applied only to the frequency displayed. No other videos were so step-by-step for the complete idiot.

What's very neat is that if you change something on a memory channel you dont need to save it or anything. Its just there saved so when you come back its all set.

I have the 2M only version and usually struggle my way through it, but generally figure it out after a few tense moments. Thanks for reminding me how easy it can be. My biggest wish is that it would have had USB-C charging as using it for camp hosting it was a shame to have the inverter overhead waste so much power loading just above idle. Also, what happened to the Simplex repeater controllers that used to be so abundant 20 years ago?Having a decent antenna on a pole above the roof of the RV with a simplex controller could have been so useful for not only communicating across the USFS campground but also from the campground into town out of the box canyon. When one of us does a mail or grocery run there are always questions that pop up back to base camp, lol. Cheers, Davey --KU9L

From TUJ: "I’ve never heard of a VHF only FT-60, not to say that there’s no such thing as one. Yaesu offers a bunny battery holder to use in lieu of the NmHi battery for those who don’t have access to 12VDC.
Here’s a link to a 5 volt USB to 12 Volt booster with a 1 amp output. This should power the FT-65 charger just fine. I just ordered one for myself, it’ll be here this Friday.

I installed a number of simplex repeaters for VHF business band systems 40 yrs ago. They “store and forward” the message. The ones I set up for my clientele used a magnetic tape to record and playback.
