MOVIE REVIEW: The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare #spoilerfree
I honestly would've preferred a plot twist where it was revealed the mother and the little boy were ghosts the whole time. Especially when it showed them dressed in fancy clothes in the middle of the night. Why would they be dressed so fancy in the middle of the night during a move????
You don't go unconscious from being tasered. That's a Hollywood myth. You lose muscle control and it hurts insanely, but you don't go unconscious, unless you fall badly and hit your head hard. Stun-gun or taser, doesn't matter. In order for a person to go unconscious, it requires limited or no oxygen flow to the brain or abrupt overload of the nervous system in both brain halves or the brain-stem (like when boxers goes lights out from temple or liver blows if hit hard or clean enough)
See! Marky Mark was playing 4D chess by not acting well as an unconscious person. He knew what was up.
@@CookieMovies78 Heh, just from the way you were saying it, I didn't really know what you meant. Was he supposed to go unconscious but didn't pull it off, or was he not supposed to go unconscious and you thought he should have. Not that important per se, but the devil is in the details I heard someone say once. It might be me hearing it wrong, as I am not from a english speaking country. So while my english is often good enough, slip-ups do happen. Also, I don't really like him as an actor anyways. He can play one role, himself (like a good deal of other Hollywood "actors")
No, I am agreeing with you. Thanks for the input. Thanks for watching! Great comments!
Mel Gibson is an awesome person.
He’s one of my favorite directors
How sad are you ? Tip ; Keep your sad hateful politics out of film critism .🤢.
Would you mind elaborating? I’m not sure what “politics” you are referring to
I enjoyed it 8/10
Wow! You liked it more than me
@ I figure I’m going there to escape to the movies might as well enjoy some popcorn and soda and watch mark try to hide his accent lol
Look, anyone going into this movie expecting an epic film is the first problem. The movie was entertaining and it held just the right amount of suspense. I enjoyed watching it even though some of it was cheesy.
I was surprised how suspenseful it was…especially the first 30 minutes or so
For those of us men who are losing hair rapidly and need consolation, maybe we need to look elsewhere.
Yeah, this may be too traumatizing for that demographic
A never watch!!! gibson should be deported!!! Horrific person, go away!!!
Brooooo you mad? You mad bro? Mel Mel in your lil brain got you all twisted? Do you see how many views his podcast got with Joe? Ophhhh how does that feel ? Let it out
@@thizzlemetimbrs8194 Grow up!! He's a CREEP!! Sorry rumper not biting you and your fascist friends can disappear!!
you were definitely being way too kind. the lead actress performance was very wooden and I never believed her. I was definitely dissapointed in it being a Mel Gibson directed movie how it could be this bad. everyone seemed out of place in their characters and some of the ai generated scenes just looked so bad and the film felt like most of the budget went to mark Wahlberg and it may have been a bit rushed filming it
I can’t really disagree with you at all, and my wife thinks I’m being too kind as well. I guess I kinda liked its tension, but it’s not worth the energy to defend
If it’s got marky mark it likely sucks. Guy is a horrible actor and I’m confused as to how he gets work.
Choosing him as sully in uncharted really got my goat. I would have preferred freaking jean Claude van damme
Yeah, it is odd. I don’t think he sells tickets either. Not sure what the appeal is
When it's strong material, he's pretty darn good. The Departed, We Own the Night, The Fighter, Patriot's Day are all films in which he's at the top of his game. Hell, I'd even recommend Broken City over this garbage.
Better man is my robbieandive been a fan of robbie since take that begining now 2025 i love robbie more and more got his album thinkink of you robbie😍😍😍😍💯💯💯
Glad you liked it! His music isn’t my cup of tea, but that’s okay. The movie is still worth seeing
By personal level, do you mean like how vile and nasty Mel Gibson is about non-white races or do you mean like how Marky Mark permanently deafened a man because he was a different race? Theyre both behaving quite like conservative christians so im going to need some clarity on your light hearted personal level
🙄
I guess what I mean is - I'm just a dude that isn't righteous enough to judge people I don't know...especially in Hollywood which appears to be a den of iniquity. I feel much more qualified discussing silly movies. I hear ya, though, which is why I mentioned people may have problems with him.
I'm not a huge fan of Mark Wahlberg, but he shaved his head for real. No cap!
I read that shortly after posting this. That is crazy! Good catch
Mark Wahlberg, isn’t wearing a bald cap, he actually shaved his head. If this guy is a legit film critic, he’s not a very good one. Do some homework.
You are correct, sir! Good catch. My critic card = officially revoked
I sont love anything Christian. I know most believers aren't the type that started the inquisition etc but the pain, death and lies spread and caused by any religion are disgusting beyond belief
I understand your sentiment. I think a common misnomer is that Christians think they’re “better,” but the reality is we know we are failures and sinners. That is why we put our trust and faith in Jesus. He is our only way to forgiveness, but we still struggle and mess up on a daily basis. If you want to discuss this further with me, please feel free to email me directly at cookiemovies78@gmail.com.
Maybe one to miss then.
Its a great movie, I'd say it was a great watch, too. Idk what this guy is talking about, but there are dark tones AND MAJOR CHEESE in Speed, and The Rock. Go for the watch! You won't be disappointed!
It’s fun if you are able to handle that sort of content, but sensitive viewers should take caution
I don’t recall Dennis Hopper delivering multiple, long monologues about r@ping Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock and forcing them to watch, but maybe my memory fails me.
Well drat. I had liked the premise of this film, so I'm sorry to hear it wasn't executed better.
The direction is actually pretty good, but it got so vile that it took away most of the fun
I honestly liked the balance of school and other topics. It just reminded me so much of the 80s with fashion and music. The Replacements was a shock and I loved it!
I’m glad you liked it!
Nice! I love little details like this in movies that make then so much more immersive!
Yeah, I agree. That detail was awesome.
Churches usually have more than four walls.
Touché
Nobody saw this movie. Right when I saw the monkey I was out.
It really flopped, but honestly, it's not a terrible movie....audiences just aren't interested.
all the so called "shocking" stuff was so predictable. that and the wolfman looked more like a goblin from lord of the rings than a wolf man
Honestly, you’re not wrong…but I still had some fun with it. Some people are acting like this is the worst movie ever made…it’s not. I watched Megalopolis last year.
You know not everyone in my family hates musicals everyone except for me and I understand some people don’t like musicals but I had a blast when I saw this movie in theaters the music was epic. I mean, you downloaded it when I could. Honestly, I’ve always wanted to write musicals and be in musicals. This is my favorite.
I have never seen your channel before, YT just recommended this to me and let me just say, you have a new sub. Straight and to the point, not dog-piling on the movie for clicks, just giving a quick and concise honest review about a movie that didn't quite meet the high expectations from Whanel. Saw is one of my all time favorites and Upgrade was a huge hit for me, so its a little disappointing this wasn't a bigger hit but I will still end up seeing it. Great review!
Aw, thanks! Yeah, check it out. It's a fun time at the theater but not quite as good as I was hoping for from Whannell. Thanks again. Kind words.
File for divorce
Ha! Should be gounds, correct?
Its a great film and the effects are really solid. I loved it.
Glad you liked it!
the movie is not Al and it's a video game movie in theaters
Totally understand, but it certainly felt generic to me at times.
@ okay but, it’s not generic to everyone cause, they got so good with CGI things.
@ You're so right! The CGI is very good!
I saw it this past weekend thinking it was a generic tale of a made up person. I really enjoyed the movie! Very well made!
It is well made. I wish I liked the music more
Honestly as an Aussie I was extremely surprised to hear that hardly any Americans know who Robbie is. He was huge and everywhere here in the late 90's & early 2000's. Despite it bombing I have heard nothing but good things about it from those that have seen it.
Yeah, the movie isn’t half bad…just can’t find an audience.
Let's make a movie about someone thst Americans have never heard of. Then when we release the trailer, everyone will be confused.
I was more “uninterested” than confused, but the film isn’t half bad.
"Shamelessly promotes Robbie Williams" it's literally a dramatized biopic about him. I take it you have the same issue with Elvis, Rocketman, Bohemian Rhapsody and every other musical biopic out there
Yeah, I think it’s a problem with many biopics of this ilk
Wow, my entire family loved it, including the music! We're even talking about going back again to catch anything we missed. None of us knew Robbie, but I'm now falling into his YT rabbit hole & having a blast! Here's a recommendation I hope you'll take, as you seem to be an open-minded guy: His entire Knebworth concert (depicted in the film) is here. Search specifically for "Me & My Monkey" - I guarantee you have never heard a song or seen a performance like that before! It's up there with some of the greatest pop/rock performances in history. It (& the movie) blew my cynical hubby away.
Coming from the UK, and knowing of Robbie Williams, the monkey thing is bang on. When I heard about this movie I was not surprised in the slightest. Robbie has always been a self-depreciating joker. His fame hit stratospheric heights here in the nineties, to the point where you couldn’t get away from ‘that song’ (Angels), it was frikken EVERYWHERE. No wonder he feels like a performing monkey. From the outside looking in, the whole ‘Take That’ circus show was kind of sad. I almost feel sorry for him. He was clearly a square peg in a round hole. It was uncomfortable to watch in real time in the nineties, I don’t feel the need to watch an abridged version with actual drug taking and self destruction on film with a cgi ape. 😂 But good luck to him. I hope he’s found some peace.
He had a few hits here in the US so I’ve known about him since the late 90s but that’s about as much as any of us really know about him. His antics and personality aren’t super well known over here so some of it might get “lost in translation” for US viewers. I’d like to see it though!
Thanks for the info. He is new to me.
Totally agree
Good to know I'm not totally crazy
I'm sad that you didn't enjoy it as much as I did. most biopics are with the same story but it's not what he says it's about how he say it. I love the movie! I've watched the it twice already and it's fantastic! the story is completely true, without sugar coating the main character. Better Man is an emotional rellercoaster! the music was placed in an amazing scenes where you can understand why this song fits the scene (the music is great). I would highly recommend anyone to give this movie a chance! it will surprise you!
I totally respect your opinion, and it's okay that we had different experiences. I think it comes down to the music for me. If I enjoyed the music, I probably would have a much more favorable opinion, but that's all it is....my opinion.
Does he have a tail? Because if it doesn't have a tail it's not a monkey, it's an ape.
Yep, I discuss that it the full review. Thanks!
How much are they paying you?
Aw, man...I wish
Ignoring the fact that Robbie Williams is portraying himself as a freaking CGI monkey, it's actually a decent film. I don't understand why he chose to portray himself as a CGI monkey, it's extremely off-putting, and it ultimately made the movie lose money, especially in the states. But ignoring that fact, it's actually a decent film. I'm confused.
@@metpachIt was the director's choice to avoid another bland biopic. He wanted to tell the story from Robbie's perspective. He says he's always felt like a performing monkey, different & unevolved because becoming famous at 16 stunted his emotional growth. And it works! Folks should give it a chance & they'll be surprised how good it is.
@GjpgrD No. It's weird and the CGi looks terrible. Not to mention, the United States doesn't know or care about Robbie Williams. We have enough washed up pop stars that make bad music here.
@@metpach The CGI is from WETA, the same place that does the POTA movies, Avatar, LOTR. The effects have been nominated for awards, so stop lying.
If you look past the corniness of it, this is definitely one of the better Christian movies produced by the Kendrick Brothers
Correct
Im surprised you did not including the worst change of all: The climax Its no longer Eric who kills Ursula instead its Ariel who somehow is able to steer a wheel in her mermaid form and plunge the ship onto Ursula while Eric is made useless! That was the final nail on the coffin and the reason, besides Ariel's raceswap, that fans of the original were justifiably pissed!
I didn’t “hate” that change, but I get why someone would. It just didn’t make my top 5
@@CookieMovies78Well it should be top 1 most hated cause its exactly whats wrong with modern movies nowadays! There going too far with the idea that a woman must this strong independent who needs no man to save her!
Disagree with you about Eric's personality I thought he was given more depth as a character. Halle Bailey was a terrible casting as Ariel she can't act at all. Her performance and line delivery came off as bland and lackluster she does not capture Ariel's emotions and is completly inexpressive throughout the movie especially when shes human seeing it all for the first time. There was zero reaction on her face just a blank stare. None of the fascination or curiosity the character is supposed to display. I did not feel any romantic chemistry between her and Eric it doesnt even look like she was in love with him
All fair points
I actually think there were a few conflicts in the film. One is with both "Sylvie" (Suze) and Joan partly because of his inability to really share himself with them and his growing fame. The second is trying to come to terms with his growing fame. And the third is his conflict with the expectations of him, especially in terms of his music (and though not emphasized--his involvement with social causes). I'm also not sure about what the point was about Dylan being an unrelatable character because he resisted singing his most popular songs. Does this reviewer not know anything about Dylan? Has he never watched interviews with him? I'm not sure Dylan means to be relatable. I would actually give the film a 5. The performances were great. The film also captures the essence of both the time and of Dylan.
I dont sée it on Netflix 👀
It may depend on your region…sorry
I love this movie-if I ignore the fact that the Vatican is a part of the world organization making this planet a sewer in the first place.
I nominated it for best cinematography here in NC but got no momentum
The fact that he makes the erosion of racism a joke by his behavior and his selective conversations is the problem. Making the issue of racism a non serious issue is the reason why racism persists.
We went last night. Loved the movie ❤
Awesome
Just saw the film New Year's Eve and loved all 140 minutes of it. A minor disappointment for me was the decision to virtually ignore the impact The Beatles would have had on these characters in the 1964-65 time period depicted in the latter half of the film (It's pretty common knowledge, after all, that Dylan introduced The Fab Four to marijuana when he first met them in August of 1964). My other quibble is something that can't be fixed. In these period films every car on the street looks like it just came off the showroom floor, because the owners of these vintage beauties aren't going to let their perfect paint jobs be messed with. That said, I hope "Complete Unknown" gets a ton of nominations this awards season.
Yeah, they really kept the story intimate…very little mention of other artists (like the Beatles)….even his fame was difficult to calculate, because it’s all from his perspective. Thanks!
An outstanding performance by Chalamet. He’s going to get the Oscar nomination and odds are he’ll take the statue home.
He’ll be in the running. Coleman Domingo was voted in our NC Assocation
Good review. It’s hard for me to really judge the movie. I am Dylan, his music is in me deeply. That stuff is so hard to understand, it stays in your mind for years, it’s like an old love affair. I think this will win best picture because a lot of of the people who are voting Have grown up with this music in their gut. As far as the obstacle, good point. But that is a formulaic way of looking at it. There are other things that propel a movie, the music propels this one, but you could also say it’s ragged to riches, and it’s a coming-of-age movie, and there’s the arc of weather to play electricat the folk Fest. There’s a lot of tension. Good review though!

I agree - my expectation was too formulaic, which is why I think (after dwelling on it) the movie is better for NOT going the expected direction. However, leaving the theater - I had mixed feelings. Agreed, the music absolutely drives the film.
Saw the movie twice
I want to see it again too
