In my opinion Plaza was the best part of the whole disaster and only cast member realising how ludicrous the whole thing was. Everyone else played it pretty much straight. The cast certainly isnt unknown but one would think that Coppola's return would've had every actor begging to be part of the movie. Much like when Terrence Malick returned from a long hiatus with the Thin Red Line. But reading the script of Megalopolis probably dampened their enthusiasm.
I gave it a 1.5 because I think the core concept did have some potential and the overall effect of the movie is technically leading to a lot of discussion (it's very negative discussion but at least we're talking about it).
I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume you didn't listen to the review, because you would realize I totally agree with you and make these exact points. Did you like Megalopolis?
8 people bought tickets for the showing, and I was the only one who showed up for it. About 30 minutes in I was saying just get better, and it never did. At 2 hrs 18 minutes, it felt 4 hours. I felt good actors were acting like bad actors, and the plot was a mess. I like artsy films but if I dont care about a single character or what the characters are trying to do in a lengthy time, then the job was poorly given in my opinion. Kudos for catching the line slip. I also heard it and looked around the empty auditorium like did I just hear that. In the end, the only thing it did for me was knock Madame Web out of the top spot for worst movie of the year. .075/4
@@CookieMovies78 "[The Room:] the Citizen Kane of bad movies", _Wikipedia_ I'm pretty sure Megalopolis also though it would be the masterpiece of 2024 ...
It is a beautiful poetic movie and definitely not for everyone. It has it's flaws too. I would give it 8.5/10 You got to be a bit of an artsy person to enjoy it, if you're a normie, don't waste your time and money on seeing it.
Even though we clearly disagree, I respect your opinion. It’s odd, because I normally prefer the more “artsy-fartsy” films, but this one just didn’t land with me.
I'm not sure how far you got in my review....it's pretty doggone long. When stating "career ending," I'm referencing to the many terrible (in my opinion) performances that may hurt acting careers. I agree, this will be his final film. Makes me sad.
I haven't seen this film yet, but about half-way through this review I quit...because the reviewer seems not to get things that were done on purpose, and thinks weird stuff is bad. I'll be my own judge. This review is career ending.
When you haven’t seen the film or finished my review, it’s difficult for me to put too much weight on your comment, but I’d like to hear your thoughts once you’ve seen it. Thanks
@@CookieMovies78 Then why do you think obviously intentional 'weird' editing, where things don't match, is 'bad'? Open your mind. As always with reviews, we learned more about the reviewer than the movie.
FFC has made nothing but feeble, confused and dull films in his entire career. Godfather is just a film that runs too long. Nothing, new or interesting. Apocalypse now was just uncomfortable to watch, not amazing. Nothing about his films deserve the hushed tones that get laid upon them. I am Wholly unsurprised that this ego project disappoints.
Does it “insist upon itself”? I, clearly, hold FFC in higher regard, but honestly I understand this opinion. But for whatever reason, those early films REALLY click with me.
“career ending” 😂😂😂😂

I'm hearing a lot of people agreeing with you on Plaza. So I may be in the minority on this one.
Just found this review from YT shorts, great spoiler free review ❤
Thanks, sir
It looks like a fever dream I had once, The Fountainhead directed by Baz Luhrmann.
Fever dream is a good description

It is certainly dominating my feeds
Career ending the dude is almost retired. He has left his legacy. Apocalypse Now, Godfather I&II, The Conversation, Rumble Fish, etc.

The description of Aubrey Plaza's performance sounds like a reprisal of Janet Snakehole/Judy Hitler from Parks and Rec. And, if so, I'm in.
You may LOVE it!
@@CookieMovies78 You'll never take me alive, Macklin!
The man is 84 years old. He obviously doesn’t care if this move makes money or not.
I agree with you
I really enjoyed your review of this movie which of course I have not watched.
Yeah....this one was rough

Our opinions line up
Megalopolis, 2024 :: The Room, 2003
Is it reasonable to make such comparison ??
Not really...Megalopolis has legitimate resources, and The Room did not. But I think it fits the conversation, because both are truly bad films.

He's 84, hasn't directed in like 20 years, calling this career ending is stupid. It's going to be his last movie even if it was a masterpiece
You beat me to it....what a dumb take
