    When compared to the yacht in front @0:37, trust the windlass wasn't supporting the mooring buoy weight outta the water. My Aunt lives in Foster, one of Many beautiful places along the central coast. I never noticed the dirty dishes, expected from a (presumed) heterosexual bloke. Maybe Marley was hinting that she'd happily do them for you😉

    Hi, researching, seen your Q's on OpenRov, but remember watching this when published. 12 months on, hindsight thoughts, etc, would be interesting. I know you said the guy from thunder was pushing 72v, but any reason you simply didn't go with their 12KW Cooled 48v Kit for $3.5K (no mounting). Electric drive has 10kW kit, no price listed, like motenergy, guess I'll have to call them. But, wonder if 10kW will satisfy.

    • @slightadrift
      @slightadrift 12 дней назад

      12kw would have been fine I just wouldn’t have had that slight extra power the vary rare times I’ve used it. You’ll have to relook at the graph in the third part of my motor series to see what speed you’ll be missing out on (as per my boat). Also something to note, when there was heaps of growth on the bottom of my boat I basically only had half speed (ie batteries ran out much quicker)

      @@slightadrift Oh? Your the only youtuber I always think b4 commenting, 'he'll already know, I can't teach him anything'. Tips - - Try to avoid 2 ppl who know each other, not only for space, etc, but 'may' end up 1 v 2 if you don't get on. - Always give an end port, that way you both know if don't get on. If a day or 2 before arrival you do get on & want to continue, offer, he/she may go walkabout while you do you (which will likely be maintenance). - Experienced sailors maybe in-between charter contracts, using crew finder to hop to the next job, doing it for years, prob teach you a lot you thought you knew, which is what happened to me, incl ways to minimize no wind & storms, like in this vid. I'm happy to let them skipper, teach me as much as their patience can handle. - Newbies & Bullshitters, plenty of them, try to spend a bit of time with them b4 departure, preferably a short 'test' sail, suss them out, your teaching them.

    • @slightadrift
      @slightadrift 19 дней назад

      Absolutely. The annode (usually a lump of zink) needs to be touching metal below the waterline that you wish to preserve. It provides a sacrificial piece of metal that rust/erodes away first. Any metal below the waterline should have anodes, regardless of what they are attached to 😊🙏

    I rode One Wheels for years with starting with a Pint and upgrading to the XR. I have over 2,000 miles altogether on One Wheels and have come off the board many times on and off road. I can say that a majority of my falls were my fault, but I have had MANY instances were the board scared the hell out of me. It got to the point to where I was paranoid about hitting pot holes, uneven pavement or anything that would cause the board to become unstable. I was just not enjoying the ride anymore. I've been lucky enough to run out most of the "crashes" but I do not want to end up with a permanent injury. Therefore, I now own an Evolve electric board and won't ever go back. Get all terrain tires with your electric board and its way better than a One Wheel.

    How much re re gen do you get under sail at say 5knots , , I’m thinking about going electric in my Columbia 34mkii

    • @slightadrift
      @slightadrift 25 дней назад

      I haven’t really worked out all the regen numbers yet but at 5knots it’s basically nothing. The power curve is exponential. So 6 knots is better, and 8 knots plus of boat speed thru the water is where it really starts to put in a measurable amount. Unless you can consistently get high boat speeds, or have the fancy prop/motor from ocean volt I wouldn’t count on regen 🙏

    New sub here. I owned a Sailrite (the LSZ-1 IIRC) machine back in the late 90's and, in my experience, they were very nice people who go above and beyond in customer service. At the time they were, and as far as I know still are, a smallish family run business. To me, that somewhat negates their - otherwise yes - very expensive prices. So I am really kind of surprised to hear your experience. For instance, I was not completely happy with my Sailrite machine (most likely because I was used to my very nice, full size, fast and butter-smooth industrial machines), and eventually sold it. They had me mail it to them, where they tuned it up and checked it over *for free*, in order to make sure my buyer would have a good experience, before sending it on (on their dime, no less) to her. Wow! That kind of service these days is pretty much unheard of. I only ran it on 120v AC mains, so never had to experience what you went through. I'm sorry to hear your story - it sucks, and I can understand your frustration, especially at the price point... :/ So, and maybe this will help some of your viewers - FWIW, years later, I bought a 'clone' machine off of eBay that looks exactly like SR machines. It was super cheap (just 1/4 SR cost or less, even) and I figured what the heck, I sewed for a living for a long time and can do my own mechanical work etc, so I would be able to work out any issues. Didn't really run into anything major, and found that it works pretty much as well as my SR machine did. Also, parts are interchangeable if, for instance, you want to have the Big Wheel. I do think most people will want to opt for having their knowledge and help available, for the extra cost if that is in their budget. For those where it isn't, this is another possibility. If you are on an almost non-budget, here's a 3rd possibility: search YT for the "$100 leather sewing machine" videos. I got one of them, and it works surprisingly well - not nearly as fast as electric, but faster than hand stitching. :) Thanks for the great vids, Tymon! Found you via the electric motor series, good stuff. :)

      @@slightadrift I only have an imagination, but I started imagining the ideal boat nearly 50 years ago. I agree that all are valuable, especially now that solar and lithium batteries are so possible. When I sailed the ketch nearly 50 years ago, the common wisdom was that it is a bad day when you flip a CAT. At that time I loved my Hobie, and righting it from a turtled position was easy. A 10 Ton Cat would be a different issue. As a packrat, I imagine needing many redundancies and spares. (2 autopilots and 1 WindVane with lots of spare parts!)

    • @VortexMotiveVision
      @VortexMotiveVision 2 месяца назад

      @@slightadrift Ahhh. I can see what you mean. If one dies you've got the other as backup. It makes sense, and once it's built and you're using both, you don't notice that complexity in day to day use, unless one of them dies, and then you'll be glad you did it this way.

    • @slightadrift
      @slightadrift 2 месяца назад

      yup exactly. But my problem has been, which I’m in the process of rectifying, is one battery goes offline for one reason or another, I’m none the wiser and then I’m completely run out of power when the second battery is depleted. As far as Victron interface is concerned, it reads 50% remaining. So as long as you have measures in place to know exactly when/if a battery goes down (bms issue or whatever) the benefit of redundancy is valid
