  • "sailrite" heavy duty sewing machine that is marketed to sailors (of whom many live off grid) yet the sewing machine does not work with inverters (off grid). only mains power. Sailrite, the company that make and sell the sewing machine are keeping this information as quiet as legally possible (in my opinion) to keep their sales up.
Sailrite unsearchable videos of them testing inverters:
    sailrite 110v inverter tests
    • sailrite 110v inverter...
    sailrite 230v inverter tests
    • sailrite 230v inverter...
My question to sailrite (they didn't not respond to):
    1. Do you feel it's appropriate to sell a product that is specifically marketed to boat owners, particularly sailboat owners, a product that does not work on boats?
    2. Considering I did a lot of research on Sailrite sewing machines, on and off your website, and missed it. Do you think the warning about the inverters/generators (voltage compatibility) should have been clearly visible, understood and apparent up front. Do you feel you have done enough to alert people like myself, to the fact their expensive machine won't work, at all once it arrives?
    3. Do you think you have falsely advertised a product that is not fit for purpose?
    4. Why are your Inverter testing videos not visible on your website?
    5. Has the Sailrite sewing machine always had problems with inverters or only since the introduction of the Worker-B power pack?

We brought one 4 year's ago and have never had a problem running it off our inverter while at anchor. Great machine.

Can't get past the first 10 seconds without saying, LOVE the stop-frame editing! That must have taken some time to shoot and edit to look that good!

New sub here. I owned a Sailrite (the LSZ-1 IIRC) machine back in the late 90's and, in my experience, they were very nice people who go above and beyond in customer service. At the time they were, and as far as I know still are, a smallish family run business. To me, that somewhat negates their - otherwise yes - very expensive prices. So I am really kind of surprised to hear your experience.
For instance, I was not completely happy with my Sailrite machine (most likely because I was used to my very nice, full size, fast and butter-smooth industrial machines), and eventually sold it. They had me mail it to them, where they tuned it up and checked it over *for free*, in order to make sure my buyer would have a good experience, before sending it on (on their dime, no less) to her. Wow! That kind of service these days is pretty much unheard of.
I only ran it on 120v AC mains, so never had to experience what you went through. I'm sorry to hear your story - it sucks, and I can understand your frustration, especially at the price point... :/
So, and maybe this will help some of your viewers - FWIW, years later, I bought a 'clone' machine off of eBay that looks exactly like SR machines. It was super cheap (just 1/4 SR cost or less, even) and I figured what the heck, I sewed for a living for a long time and can do my own mechanical work etc, so I would be able to work out any issues. Didn't really run into anything major, and found that it works pretty much as well as my SR machine did. Also, parts are interchangeable if, for instance, you want to have the Big Wheel. I do think most people will want to opt for having their knowledge and help available, for the extra cost if that is in their budget. For those where it isn't, this is another possibility.
If you are on an almost non-budget, here's a 3rd possibility: search YT for the "$100 leather sewing machine" videos. I got one of them, and it works surprisingly well - not nearly as fast as electric, but faster than hand stitching. :)
Thanks for the great vids, Tymon! Found you via the electric motor series, good stuff. :)

Gday , I have watched all of your videos and enjoy your style of videography, I got a bit confused when you switched chicks as I wasn’t watching them in order and I was like what the? Now you have switched locations like what the? I’m now in the warm Whitsundays sun is shining and solar is keeping up. Are you going to post videos of the trip from Gold Coast to Sydney? North is the best heading this time of year! Look forward to your next episode. Regards , utube Sailing Celay

Absolutely ridiculous! Integrity is paramount. How in tarnations are they getting away with this enough to even make a decent business model. There must be an alternative to the their product.
