- My bruce 20kg anchor dragged once and that was enough. I already had a New SARCA EXCEL GALVANISED ANCHOR no 5 so i guess it was time to install it!
i also measure exactly how much chain i have and find out that the bitter end (the end of the anchor chain/rode which is connected to the boat) was not even connected to anything! So i rectify that

Great pick up there!
Your chain is for sheltered waters. The decelerative forces of a 10t boat thrown by waves to stop abruptly on an extended and unforgiving chain are massive. [Fiji, guitar, sheltered nook, wind change, onshore wind and breaking waves, unable to raise anchor, boat snapping at the end of the chain all night, the engine broke off its mounts, but the anchor held]. The holding power of your anchor is probably much more than the chain, shackles, nylon, D ring, bolts, and bulkhead. The working limit of 12mm chain and 12mm shackles are about 7t. Nylon will stretch about 50% before breaking [unless barnacle encrusted or over coral]. A long length of stout nylon is more forgiving on the boat and comfortable when caught out, maybe for the second anchor.
Anchors away!
