Ride onboard my F1000 as I race in the fastest amateur Championship in the UK, described by one follower as "Better to watch than F1".
Follow me for the highs and lows of motor racing as I try to learn this fast pace and expensive sport, before I run out of cash or write off my car - or both!

My first race with Monoposto who run a mixed gid of 42 single-seater cars, the majority being F3 cars. The F1000 can hold it's own with it's acceleration out of slow speed corners, but the F3s have an advantage of more aero through fast corners. Cadwell Park might be the UK's Hardest Track, often described as the Mini-Nürburgring. The barriers are close, the corners are bumpy and the track is twisty. I took my F1000 for the pre-season test to this incredible and intense track, only 1 week ahead of the season opening race... the pressure was on! Great video! Seeing this reminds me how much I miss racing regurarly. Glad to see you and the others can get on track still, despite how expensive everything has become.
Also it sounds like you have a week clutch. Not getting a solid connection with the pressure plates.
Appreciate the position and lap count graphic, it helps with orientation during the race.

Did exactly the same in my Vee a few years ago. Managed to keep it out of the barriers this year! Hope you get it repaired for the next round 🤞🤞
@@andiminthegarage7081 corner of death! How much damage was it for you? Haha well done. My team managed to get me back out 4 hours later for race 3! Got my best finish yet, P7 😅
@ChapmansCorner I kept it out of the barriers, but I ran over the back someone at the hairpin in qualifying...🤯🤯 Snapped the beam. Got out for the race, though only just!
gutted on the crash, front right had some debris on it I thought, what a grate footage to watch

Gutted for you, up until the crash that was some thrilling racing. Spectacular slip angles from wings and slicks cars. Great camera choice and placement too.
@@danielseg996 glad you agree, thought to intensity of the race was too good not to share. It also makes the crash a lot more brutal when you see how the race was going up until then

I was saying, those last 2 corners were your weakest ones and those are so important. Didn't expect YOU to crash though but not surprised it was this corner. Hope not too much damage, video was awesome!
@@kelvinator5088 agreed, I really struggled and got gapped and left exposed on the main straight: Damage is looking around £2.7k all in so not awful, I’ve heard worse for similar. Got lucky it was foam on tyre padding

@@las10plagas haha yeah sorry, I set the lap timer wrong, one too early! You really felt the same disappointment I did then one the day 😂 I think the full race was so awesome, constant defence from behind and trying to keep up with P1

Great video! Shame about the ending, but I think you discussed that pretty well in your last video. What's it like getting airborne at (I'm guessing) about 80 mph in an open wheeler? Or, perhaps more importantly, what's the landing like given you've got very little suspension travel?
Thanks mate appreciate it. Yeah it’s pretty nuts tbh! With the walls so close it was high pressure. The F1000 actually has fairly soft suspension for a single seater, so it’s not that rough
When I could drive Cadwell was my favourite circuit.

Well, sorry about the crash. You were running very well for most of the race and challenging for the lead especially going over the curbs. Looked to me your tires went away and lost traction a few corners before the crash. All the best to you on your next race. I’ll be watching!

@@povdrivekls8369 I wish I could mate! My body work wobbles too much to switch it off. Clamp is too much faff when I need to take the engine cover off (which is a lot) I’m trying to work on a solution, it’s tough

It didn t work for me too :D i just used normal gopro supports but i still had a lot vibrations

Do you ever pull the gear clusters and check for wear on the shift dogs built into the gears? Sounded like a lot of false neutrals and jumping out of gear. I guess the extra grip and weight plus downforce of your car over a regular bike would cause them to wear at a fast rate.
We changed the clutch recently but no not into the gear cluster yet. Desperate to. My team manager agrees with your question
@@ChapmansCorner The shift drum and corresponding forks can also give those symptoms but the dogs will take more of a beating in a car setup. As long as your shift linkage is setup well that would be the next place to look. Great videos by the way.

It's kinda funny that the laws of sense go out the window on occasion in uk motorsport. Realistically, these things are way too fast for Cadwell and the track is too narrow. There are far more sensible choices. But do we care? Nah not really lol
@@danellis1253 not allowed to wear a visor cam INSIDE the helmet. But sure you can race send with 20 F1000 cars around a bike track like Cadwell 😂 I’m glad we got to race there, it was quite the experience! But I said something would happen before the weekend, just didn’t think it would be me

@@markholroyde9412 I’ll always hold my hand up for my mistakes! However, this 2nd to 3rd gear issue has plagued me since installing a flat shifter. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. See Brands Race 3

@@F-Man that was race weekend number 7 in cars, no previous racing experience. Started last June
It was a great weekends racing (well the Sunday that i watched was!). Bad luck with the 2 accidents. Expensive weekend indeed. Did the suspension fail from riding the kerb.....think it was on the way out anyhow? Id be interested to know what spares like a front wing and suspension components cost ......Im used to buying parts for a road car as replacements -body parts anyhow. Great video! I didnt know helmet cams were banned in races (FIA dont seem to mind...)
@@Meeshka32 it was the stub axel that snapped, not the suspension? (Unless you’re going to tell me it’s the same thing). It did happen when I hit the curb, but I was taking plenty of curb all morning. You can see it a little wobbly just before. Full front wing is apparently £600. I will do a video soon about the cost of the crash and rebuild. Yes gutting about the visor cam, really stupid rule

@@ChapmansCorner you must be gutted about the race 2 result. So close to a podium, it's incredibly tough to get one of those in f1000. I would be having flashbacks in my sleep if it happened to me
@@user-jb3pj5wf9k haha to be honest mate, that was only race weekend number 7 so even to be running in P2 final lap was good. In Club100 karting last year, i had a similar final lap final corner incident with a back marker… I then went on to smash the season with P2. So I’m hoping the incident will serve as a good foundation to learn and improve and deliver at Croft or Donnington. Tasted victory, won’t throw it away so easily next time

A great weekend, with a mixed bag of results. Luckily the positives outlast the negatives :) And compliments to the mechanics... they worked wonders. Great learning experience this weekend! ...and excellent voice-overs

@@ChapmansCorner that’s a brave move, should be very insightful for those wanting to get into racing though. I owned a radical a few years back and raced that a couple of times, the cost of bending that was always at the front of my mind and affected my commitment.
@@nickb997.1 awesome, love watching Radicals. Its always back of my mind too, I could probably show 5 race moments when I back out due to cost rather than being scared / not confident I could make it stick
Great video. It seems like you're improving race by race (despite the crashes!). One thing I'm wondering about - there seems to be more sliding about in these cars than any other wings and slicks formula I've seen. Is that down to the cross-ply tyres?
@@robertmerkel8247 I think so, with more seat time! Will keep pushing to see where I end up, I’m hoping clubman podium this season. I asked my teammate who’s more qualified to answer this, and confirmed my suspicions- I’d say it’s down to the fact these cars don’t have a lot of aero, also the cars are very soft so they break away more than other formula cars that are fully carbon and have very stiff suspension
