The 1931 Model A pickup engine just keeps getting worse. I thought it would be fun to see if we could get it running even though I have another engine that I am planning to swap into it but the issues with the original engine just keep adding up. First FIRE UP after decades of sitting. Can we get this old Model A running?
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.5 месяцев назад
Can we get this old Model A Ford engine to run? I've had this chassis kicking around for a while. The body was kept by the previous owner for a street rod project. It is now time to tear this thing apart but before we do, let's see if we can get the old girl to fire up. the last inspection sticker on the windshield was from the mid 70's and I am guessing that it hasn't ran since then. I scored BIG TIME at this last minute Estate Auction. I found the listing for this auction the day before the bidding closed and never had a chance to go look at the stuff in person first. I bid hard on many of the lots and won most of them. It was definitely a gamble but it looks like I'm coming out on the winning end. Check us out on social media! Facebook: profile.php?... Instag...
Maine Barn Find sitting for 53 Years 1931 Ford Model A pickup
Просмотров 30 тыс.7 месяцев назад
We found another one. This time, it's a pickup. That's right. We're dragging another derelict Model A from a Maine barn after decades of hibernation. This 1931 Wide Bed pickup was parked in 1970 and was slowly buried. With a little work, we got it dug out and dragged out. In this video, we'll give it a good looking over and see what we're working with.

Hurricane Lee may have disrupted the 2023 Pinetree Jamboree but day 3 of the event in Winterport Maine turned out to be a beautiful day full of traditional hotrods and drag racing. The turnout was pretty strong on what is usually a "pack up" day. Racing was extended well into the afternoon to make up for Saturday's washout. There was a wide range of cars and flathead power plants. There was a s...

Time was not on my side and I had to make a difficult last minute decision to abandon the Junkyard Roadster project and prep the coupe instead. The 1931 Model A coupe is pretty much road worthy but just needed a couple little finishing touches to make it race worthy. The regulations are fairly lenient since these cars are so slow but they still have to have some basic safety measures. In this v...
How TO: Hot Rod engine mounts for your AV8 build Junkyard Roadster Pt 9 Model A hotrod motor
Просмотров 2,7 тыс.10 месяцев назад
Here is part 9 of the "Junkyard Roadster" build. In this video, the pre-war traditional hotrod build gets engine and transmission mounts. While I use the typical style engine mounts, I add a little twist to make them a bolt-in mount. Things are a little different when it comes to the transmission mount. In keeping with the theme of the car, I reuse more cast-off stock Model A parts to build a p...

We are still picking away at the "Junkyard Roadster" traditional hotrod build. No apologies are needed! We never have enough time to do the things we want to do compared to the things we have to do!😎
Very true. Thanks
I'm getting worn out, just watching!! 😂 Keep up the good work....
Thanks. It did kind of feel like work but at least most of them roll fairly easily.
nice job with the shop clean up
Thanks
The world is apparently overrun with vintage steering wheels.
I guess my world is anyway. Thanks for watching.
Refreshing videos.....every day stuff. None of that polished and glitzy crap. You and your shop. The same thing I try to convey on my channel. Keep it up.
Thanks. I can't afford the fancy stuff so we'll make due with what we have.
Great video! Can't wait to watch about the 34! Looks awesome already
Thanks
Good morning my friend…glad to see this new video that you just posted. Have a great day… you’re doing a great job…keep it up…
Thanks
I dismounted a couple of crusty old tires on two Model A rims. Used some "C" clamps to compress the sidewall then took a grinder with cut off wheel like you have and cut around the tire then peeled off the tire. I stunk out my garage and the other garages next to me (I'm sure.
I'm no good at wiring so this video has me totally lost. What I AM fascinated by is the stone guard on that car. That looks so much better than those ugly chrome things that eveyone sells. How's it made, installed, etc. I didn't see a video about it, so please give some info.
Thanks for watching. I agree about the stone guard. I don't like the ones that sit in front of the shell. I found this one on ebay a few years ago. I'm not sure if they are still available but it would be easy to make one out of some metal mesh.
Thanks, 😀that's where i'm at on my A
Thanks for watching. Hopefully this helps.
I don't have and do not want a bead breaker, so i use a three or four foot long 2x6, place the end on the tire next to the wheel, and drive my car up the board. Sometimes I have to turn the wheel and do it again.
I have heard of people doing that. If it works, it works.
Thanks, and a big help.
👍 Thanks for watching.
We all question the decisions we've made--I think you done well Mr. Maine A!😎
Haha. Thanks.
Want to fix the gas tank? Just put a beer keg in the bed. Eeeh the tank is fine,,, run it!
Yeah, I'll pass on the keg. I'll flush it out and run it.
Both my daughters are into cars. One has been to Lemans and MonteCarlo with the race team she is involved in. The other is nto vintage Minis, she used to help in the shop.
That's awesome. You must be proud.
Grosse jet advertised in Auto week in the 70s.
Leave the 16 and 17 inch wheels. Or put the 16s in back and 15s in front.
I am keeping the 16s and 17s. I'm just switching the 16s to the rear.
Somewhere I have a picture of my father with his Model A when he was in highschool. He was proud of the car, he chopped the top himself. I believe it was 1936. He was even wearing a suit.
That's neat.
Look model B or newer wheels, hmmmmmmm
16s and 17s. 1935 and 1933/1934
Look mosquito abatement!
I do a lot of that
You can tell its a 31 by the firewall.
Sure is
Just put a Flathead V8 in it!
Yes they do sell small tubes of RTV. The only place I've seen large tubes is hardware stores. All parts stores have small tubes.
We have a NAPA and advance auto near by and they both only have the larger tubes.
Middle-aged petrol heads going through midlife crisis - have a shave too ,,,
Can't really call it a midlife crisis since I've been doing it since before I could drive. I'm guessing you're not a car guy. I'll pass on the shave, thanks.
One word......OUTSTANDING...!!!!!! Thank You!!
Thanks for watching. I hope it was helpful.
I haven't watched your complete video yet BUT your link to the Wiring Diagrams has been a LIFE SAVER!!!! Thank you and I'm looking forward to the rest of the Video......THANKS AGAIN!!!!
Glad to help.
This video gave me a seizure. 😮
Well that's not good. You may want to see a Doc about that.
Love the episode! also the sound track! How about a play list?
Thank you. I use a bunch of random songs that O get from Epidemic Sound. I'm not sure who the artists are as I don't keep track of them when downloading. I will try to include a Playlist in future videos. Thanks for the feedback.
cool old truck!!!
Thanks
I hope you drive the tires off it once It's up and running! Beautiful truck!
Thanks. That's the plan.
It looks like it s in mint. Condition to me
It's mint alright.
Freaking outstanding. I hope I'll never have to go through that. I wish I could get up to the drags, unfortunately I can't make it this time. Give em hell . Thanks
Thanks. It's not a bad job really, at least compared to newer vehicles.
See you at Oxford!
Yes sir.
I really like the way you explain things and it makes it feel like we're standing there next to you working. Looking forward to more vids. Enjoy looking at the older vids I've watched several times past. Thank you.
I'll bet those rings are stuck rusted solid. At least you gave it a try!! You'll have a spare block to for a future rebuild. Can't wait to see it running with the other engine.
You're probably right. I figured it wasn't worth the time since I had a spare engine. I'm hoping to have it on the road this summer. Thanks for watching.
@@Maine_A_S -- That would be great!! I've always wanted one of those trucks. Although yours needs some work, it's a great find and well deserving to be put back on the road.
Thanks for some new content--it's been a long winter! Had a customer pull up in an early 28 Model A pickup today looking to have me match some paint for it. Will probably be at the Dragway swap meet in the next month or two for sale.
Thanks for watching. I'll keep an eye out for it. What color is it?
@@Maine_A_S Three different shades of green
Never seen anyone hone a cylinder with the piston in place.
Yeah. Not really the recommended way to do it but I figured I didn't really have much to lose on this one and wanted to see if it would clean up that cylinder at all. Thanks for watching.
Nice to c u. I hope I never have to go down that road,BUT if I do I've got this video to helmets along. Thanks.
Thanks
So great to see you back at it!
Thank you. Hopefully I can keep it that way.
love it, my dream car is the model A truck i have a 29 and i love it to death good job
Thanks
Great Video. I really haven't worked on Model A's, but you really show the meat and potatoes part of it.
Thanks for watching.
You can sell that piece of shit that’s what you can do with it😭
I could. Or I could build it into something cool.
@@Maine_A_S I was rlly just kidding, I own a coupe, and a Tudor sedan… keep on model A innnnn man!
I did that but I need to check it again as the outside of the passenger side tire is wearing more than the inside. I think I will make some of those and try again. Thank you.
Thanks for watching. I did notice that the wishbone is in the way if you are running a later style or dropped front axle. If you make your own, use angle with a wider flange so they hang lower. That should avoid any clearance issues.
You lost st e as soon as you said LS...
You should keep watching. You'll see it was a joke.
If you can afford it pull it and install all new main seals and bite the bullit andfront and rear seals. In for a penny in for a pound. I d like to see you get her back on the road if possible. If not keep her for parts and find a better condition 31 A and use the parts for the newer A. Just a thought. Im very impressed with your abilitys! You do as you see fit im just glad to have seen your capable hands bring her back to life. I dont blame you things are horribly expensive now and it was just a treat to watch you work. I wish I had an old A with decent paint. Id drive it everywhere but you have to be practical. Thanks for showing how hard it is to keep up an old Ford and the problems they contain. I understand they have bad gas fumes from the tank being in the dash. So I wouldnt blame you for selling all your A's and puting the money in the bank. Your funny whitty and lots of fun! Hope you get to keep all of em cause I love old modle A's but wouldnt blame you for selling them because there so expensive to fix up. Whatever you decide. But remember old model A's arent easy to replace. I understand you can get most every part youd ever need because there are many reproduction parts available. The downside is the cost. As long as you have two A's already maybe look for one in better condition frame and body wise and put the working engine into it after replacing the seals. Im just wishful thinking . Hope it allworks out for you. Most of the nice modle A's around 15,000 on up! So if you sell them you might never be able to find an affordable wxample ever again. So theres that to consider. All I know is your lucky to have two or more A's in your garage. And your lucky to have a garage and home? Happy mechanicing. Please use good ventilation. Bye!
Thanks for watching. If I was going to redo the engine, I would probably send it out and have insert bearings done. Not sure where it is going just yet.
I notice the maine plates .you in maine?I am I just picked up a 30 coupe with rumble seat.
Yes. I'm in the central area.
Wow I'm almost at the point of alignment on my car I thank for the video great job
Thanks for watching.
Hope you're doing OK, sure miss your vids..
Thanks. A few things have gotten in the way but I'm hoping to be back at it soon.
