- We found another one. This time, it's a pickup. That's right. We're dragging another derelict Model A from a Maine barn after decades of hibernation. This 1931 Wide Bed pickup was parked in 1970 and was slowly buried. With a little work, we got it dug out and dragged out. In this video, we'll give it a good looking over and see what we're working with.

Great video
Keep it as is
Just make it road safe.
Great model A pickup
Thanks
Love it. A real find. I'd love to have one just like it.
Thanks. Keep looking. They are out there.
kool old PU. Can you imagine 93 years ago, that thing started it life as bunch of parts move through the assembly line and the hands that put it together. The workers never knowing what was to come of it. The paint/chalk marks behind the seat back denoting some kinda code to the rest of the line. Kool core. Be well.
WELL,, I think its cool you even found one.
Thanks. This one actually found me. Well, the owner did snyway.
Enjoying your inspection, for Maine, that’s pretty solid.
Thanks. Yeah, it's not bad. I'm pretty happy with it.
Awesome! Glass, seats, regular stuff, brakes and so on. Little cleaning, she'll be beautiful. Maybe we'll see it at a show next year.
I'm hoping that is all it takes. I'm not too much of a show person but it will hopefully be on the road.
I'm hoping that is all it takes. I don't know that it will be making any show appearances but will hopefully see some time on the road.
Thank you for your work to preserve these pieces of our history.
Thanks for watching.
I’m 81, have a 1931 roadster, that needs a few parts. I think u and I have about the same kermugen look at life. I do all my work, but u got me thinking of what will happen tomorrow.
Anywho, I’d like to get in touch with u, E mails fine, but I do need a few parts.
Love your videos.
@@maxdillon9704 thank you for watching. Feel free to reach out.

Somewhere I have a picture of my father with his Model A when he was in highschool. He was proud of the car, he chopped the top himself. I believe it was 1936. He was even wearing a suit.
That's neat.
excellent find, and just what im looking for as well
Thanks. They are still out there.
I wish I had a model A or AA truck. 😞 I dream of one day owning one. I loved your video so I’m a new subscriber.
Thanks for watching and subscribing. The A is probably the best option to get into the old car hobby. There are still hundreds of thousands of them left, they are pretty affordable and most parts are available.
You're right about the rear fenders; they haven't been reproduced. And those special fenders were also used on the Model A mail trucks. Very hard to find.
Good to know. Thanks.
What a great find!! Lots of luck!!
Thanks
Love the truck, and I totally agree with your plan for the project. One more thing I might suggest would be to look at, and correct as needed, the mounting of the bed. It looks either low at the cab, or high at the tailgate.
I suppose it could be an illusion due to the camera lens, but it makes the truck look broken.
Can't wait for more on this build!
Thanks for watching. There is definitely something off with the bed. It leans pretty hard to the right also. It may end up needing new blocks or shims in the front.
Awesome find! I'm driving a 1928 ccpu and it's a blast! I gave your channel a plug on my Stock Ford Model A fb group.
Thanks
I like the direction you`re going with it focusing on drivability. Similar to the other Matt at Seattle speed shop. Adding a downdraft carb, better distributor and possible a later sycor tranny. would add to drivability. I`m subscribed
Thanks for watching and subscribing. I like Matt's truck and will probably take this one in the same direction.
Fantastic truck with a super clean gas tank! Makes such a difference when the original owner cares or thinks ahead, as you discussed in your video. Good content.
I think it is a great starting point. Hopefully the engine is salvageable. Thanks for watching.
Great find. Very exciting to find more out about the truck. Funny intro about barnfinds.😅
Thanks for watching. I like to know the history on the cars I find.
Looks like fun. Looking forward to your next vid
Thanks
Very solid!!! Huge fan of your goals for this project. Will definitely be following along
Thanks
Both my daughters are into cars. One has been to Lemans and MonteCarlo with the race team she is involved in. The other is nto vintage Minis, she used to help in the shop.
That's awesome. You must be proud.
The white box you found in the side pocket marked 20-0-20 is an ammeter! The Grose Jet is a replacement float valve for the carburetor that's an "improvement" over the original, supposed to be less likely to stick.
Thanks for the info. The ammeter in the truck looked like it was replaced so that would make sense. I think it was just the connection nuts in the box.
Hey , what a lucky find!! There is so much character as it is. You're on the right track to get it running and driving. I have a 29 phaeton, also from a barn in Maine. It was repainted 50 years ago. I like the "age" it's taken on. I don't have room for another A, but if I did, I would get a pickup with patina and letter it with "Olizum" graphics. Do you have a lead on some decent 29 headlight buckets?
Nothing like a good barn find. I may have a set of buckets. Shoot me an email MaineAs31@gmail.com
I love this truck keep it the way it is
That is the plan. Thanks for watching.
Great find. Looking forward to what you make of it.
Thanks for watching.
Beautiful truck, I’m working on a 32 ford truck. Mine is an aftermarket fibreglass shell though
I really like the 32-34 pickups. What are the plans for yours?
@@Maine_A_S full restoration, I’m putting a 351 Windsor in it
What would your suggestion be for an aftermarket front end for a 32 truck
Are you looking to stick with the straight axle? Pete and Jakes offers quality front end kits if you want to buy it all in one package. Be careful of the cheap kits out there. Some of the cheap axles are actually cast and not forged. You don't want a cast axle. If you're looking for IFS, companies like Total Cost Involved or Heidts are a good place to look. I like to reuse original ford parts as much as I can but it is a lot more work.
Dang!! You are one lucky man to find a Model A truck in such good condition that hasn't been restored!! I would love to own this truck. Considering your plan for this truck, it's going to look great going down the road!! I'm excited to watch future videos on this project!!
Thank you for watching. I think it will be a good little project and hopefully make a nice shop truck when it's done.
The trucks are super hard to find at a fair and reasonable price. What did you pay, and what can we expect to pay?
I got a pretty good deal on it. There have been a few for sale around here lately. I would guess 5k-7k for a decent project. Probably 10k for something that is close to drivable but still needs work.
I agree love the look just wondering around how much it went for
I got a pretty good deal on it. He wanted it to go to a good home.
Love to have a 30 or 31 truck
They are out there.
I might tell the family that the may need those parts some day. But maybe they don't have the space for everything anyhow. But also, the amount of buyers for Model A parts just isn't there anymore. That's what I've found with parts I've been trying to sell.
The #1 thing that I have learned when it comes to selling things is that the seller has to be willing to ship. There is a buyer out there for just about everything but they are seldom within a reasonable driving distance.
Maybe but I've also learned that the potential buyer isn't willing to pay our crazy high shipping costs these days, especially on larger items.@@Maine_A_S
Maybe you are trying to sell in the wrong place.
Looks almost like a 32 Firewall!
Nice. But doesn't Maine have restrictions on the use of antique vehicles? I'm thinking of moving to Maine and I wonder what the rules are now for owning and driving antique vehicles.
Maine is pretty lenient with antique cars. They don't use titles. You can register it as an antique and they will let you use license plates from the same year ad the car. They are not subject to yearly safety inspections like regular vehicles. The antique reg is intended for parade and show use but it's not really enforced. As long as you don't abuse it and drive the cat every day, it won't be an issue.
Good to know. @@Maine_A_S
Grosse jet advertised in Auto week in the 70s.
Leave the 16 and 17 inch wheels. Or put the 16s in back and 15s in front.
I am keeping the 16s and 17s. I'm just switching the 16s to the rear.
Do you face that same problem of having an inheritor? I have no kids or family interest in my A but I'm not in your area anyhow.
I am in somewhat of the same boat. The family would probably be interested in a couple of the cars but not the parts. That's why I've turned my parts collecting/hoarding into a business to hopefully find new homes for the cars and parts that I don't see myself using.
Want to fix the gas tank? Just put a beer keg in the bed. Eeeh the tank is fine,,, run it!
Yeah, I'll pass on the keg. I'll flush it out and run it.
Nice find! Don't let the Camaro in the cookie cutter neighborhood get to you buddy!😆
Haha. Thanks for watching.
My mother is from Maine. She had a 34 Ford coupe with rumble seat. Ended up with a 36 V8. My mother left for DC. Her mother sold it in the 60's for five bucks. Guy came back with a new 6 volt battery and drove off. I think about my mother's car all the time. I wanted to get her one for her birthday. I never did.
33-34 coupes are really nice. I wonder where it ended up.
I have a stick shift it doesn't go into 3rd gear.... The hundred and $80 master cylinder leaks pressure after 3 days... I took off the rubber boot to make it sound Cool I just don't understand what's the rate about a stick shift they don't shift very easily Every time you shift you're just wearing it out..... I don't even like motors Gliders are really cool after I shall a dive you can run over 150 miles an hour straight and level..😢
?
a barn find .......................was the barn realy hard to find? you make a video finding the barn ?
Yes. It was a darker shade of red than most barns are and it really blended in with its surroundings.
Look model B or newer wheels, hmmmmmmm
16s and 17s. 1935 and 1933/1934
Wait a minute. You berate Derek in the beginning of the video, but 58 minutes of talking later, and you have not done anything to improve the truck or fix anything that is wrong with it??? No thanks.
Don't take everything so seriously. It was a joke and has nothing to do with what Derek does. Regardless, thanks for watching.
Both his and your approach are helpful but just different.
You expect subs,,cut rhe chatting,,get to work,,notmy channel outta here!
It's an overview of the truck. I'm not doing a full rebuild in one video.
u butcher it up yet and made a piece of trash junk rod
Hahaha. Thanks for the vote of confidence. No. I have not. Yet.
She is as dry as a bone. That barn was a blessing to her and she deserves just what you outlined in your plan. I will follow your progress with enthusiasm knowing your Maine penchant for correctness and durability. It should be a fun and rewarding journey! St Marys, GA 🇺🇸⚓️
@@dickdaley9059 I appreciate that. It should make a nice little driver once it's done.
