Congresswoman Katherine Langley - Kentucky's First
Today we’re talking about Katherine Gudger Langley, the first woman from our state to be elected to serve in the United States Congress. She certainly took an unusual route to get there, and, unfortunately, that seems to have overshadowed her accomplishments. Telling her story requires that we discuss some of her husband’s career, but we will focus as much as possible on Mrs. Langley herself. Stick around to the end to hear about her encounter with aviation royalty.

A Halloween Folk Tale
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.2 года назад
In this Pikeville History Moments video, we thought we’d allow ourselves to stray a little from our usual fact-based history in honor of Halloween, and indulge in a good old-fashioned ghost story. Here we talk about a supposedly true story about a Civil War officer’s encounter with a red-eyed demon on Elkhorn Creek near Jenkins. In the University of Pikeville’s Allara Library archives there is ...

The McCoys began shooting. The fire stated from the 8lbs of black powder stored in the cabinet of the kitchen from a spark from one of their firearms. The McCoys should have just came out peacefully and negotiated a peace treaty putting an end to the feud for ever.

I grew up in Pikesville Ky. I'm kin to the McCoy's on my grandmothers side. I just think it is really sad what Randall went through. The man lost all most all his children. His wife was never the same. But that wasn't enough pain for this man. After everything he went through he burned to death. Devil Ans dies in his sleep. Why was Randall's life hell on earth? I know the feud was both family's fault but I believe poor Randall got the worst of it. I'm so proud to be related to him. I hope he finally found some peace.

Jim Vance was framed after he was murdered. There were no warrants for his arrest. He was in Pike County for a court case during the time he was supposed to be hiding out with the Hatfields before the cabin raid. He would never have gone to Pike County for court if he was wanted there. Johnse was on trial for murder so he lied about it all being Jim Vance's idea to raid the cabin. So did the others who took part in the raid.
