Hi Mary! That cute pouch could be useful for so many things! The dish towels with the snap holders are so practical! I hate when my dish towel slips off the oven handle - I will consider doing this too. I’ve never put snaps in anything before though, so not sure how that part would turn out for me.

Hi Mary! I love the cute little bag! I've just completed a chid size apron and matching oven mitts for my my friend's little grand daughter. It has cats on it. My next project is to make a quilted frame for my Christmas cross stitch that has taken me 36 years to finish. I was going to frame it behind glass but quilting one will make it easy to roll up and store away for each Christmas season. I might get around to posting it on Fridays Sews Central group on Facebook if you are interested. I have some of my other projects there as well. I loved the kitchen towels with the pot holders for hanging! They look pretty easy too. The drawstring bags were cute, as well. I used to sew a lot for Christmas, but lately I haven't been doing that much. I was going to make my son a shirt for Christmas, but we will likely be having some repairs done so I doubt I'll finish it. I've never sewn for him (other than mending) and I'm a little nervous as he's 6'3 and doesn't live local, so I'm hoping I added sufficient length to the pattern. I'm not sure whether to cut it out or not. We should hear from the landlord soon about when the repairs will begin. Right now I'm just catching up on some mending. As odd as it sounds it feels rather satisfying to get some of those items done. I'm not sure if it would work or not, but I have in the past used two passes of the buttonhole (sewing it and then sewing it again directly over the first) to make a more sturdy buttonhole. If your bar tacks are good enough that might not work, but it might be worth trying it out on a sample to see if it improves your buttonholes. Nothing is more frustrating than fighting with buttonholes!!!

Hi Mary! I love your needle books! They are so cute and useful. I like the modification you made to the hem of the shirt. The final piece looks great on you! I also do not care for loose and baggy sleeves. I was not familiar with the “fake cuff” method you talked about for the sleeve hems. I think I will try it sometime.

Hi Mary! I'm intrigued by the Nancy Zieman pivot/slide FBA. I will have to give it a whirl! Nice needle book idea. I remember what needle is in my machine by writing the # on a piece of masking/painters' tape and pasting it to the front of my machine. That being said, I have forgotten to change the # when I changed the needle. LOL I agree with Andra. Great save on the top! It looks great on. It's sort of snowing here.❄❄ Bernadette

I love both of your tops. I often made separate cowls so I can get more wear out of my tops and dresses. On the pants. Try the Nusle Joggers from Itch to Stitch. The straight legged are not super wide and an easy sew once you perfect the crotch. Thanks for sharing your makes.

Hi Mary! We keep having warm spells when it's in the 60's ..NO! I'm finished with it, I need to wear my Autumn stuff now 😂 I do both tops on you, even the one you say is too short. If you are wearing with leggings then yes it will feel short but with your new soon to be Crescendo jeans it will be perfect ❤ Neckbands I just play around with the length, I don't bother using the pattern piece and use the percentage only as a guide. Every fabric is different isn't it?! I would try making those new look pants first as they are the easiest. Have a great weekend and lovely to see you ❤ xx

I love the notebooks! The fabrics you chose worked so well. I thought the binding looked fine. If you're like me, though, it seems like it takes forever to bind anything. I've started basting them in before sewing. I know that seems like so much extra work, but honestly in the long run, I feel like it saves me time. I keep needles already threaded to help speed the process. Anyway, I just finished sewing some bias strips to make ties for a blouse pattern (New Look 6743), and I realized that I had too much pressure on the presser foot and it was shifting the fabric making the bias twist, kind of like with bias binding sometimes. When I loosened the presser foot pressure it didn't twist anymore. That spurred the thought that maybe I would have better results with binding if I loosened my presser foot pressure a bit when I was sewing it. When you consider how many layers you're working with it makes sense. Anyway the next time I bind I am going to play around with the settings to see if that might be why I have so much trouble. Maybe basting was helping to keep the layers intact in spite of all the pressure, so if I lower the pressure I won't need basting? I'm just sharing some ideas because I also struggle with binding and there has to be an easier way given all the people who are so good at it. Like you I so wish I was good at binding.

Me, again! 😂 A fun, stress-free way to sew down the binding is to use a zigzag or decorative stitch and run it on and off the edge of the binding! It looks great, adds a decorative touch, and, catches the binding without needing to stitch in the ditch! 💗

Hi Mary! I’m glad you declined to do the craft fair after realizing how stressful and unfun it was becoming. Every once in a while things pile up on me and I need to stand up for myself and say “no” too. I haven’t heard of the punch needle craft. I’m looking forward to learning more about it! Great deal on the Sidewinder! I don’t have one and I would have bought it for that price too. I’m glad your new job is going well overall. When I feel out of place starting somewhere new I always remember that everyone else was new there at one time too. Hopefully everyone is making you feel welcome and helping you get thru the “figuring stuff out” stage.

Good morning, Mary! I love your notebooks. The possibilities are endless. Your binding looks fine. It is not a disaster. I feel it is one of those skills a person has to do over and over, before it becomes second nature - unless you are Adam Sews. He was probably born binding projects. I recently cut my own for some Christmas potholders. Like you, my cutting is not always straight which is kind of important when making bias binding. It has been a learning curve for sure, with lots of measuring and stitch ripping involved. I'm looking forward to your next makes. Hello to your kitty. 😍 Bernadette

Hi Mary ❤. Do you know what? I prefer those notebook covers without the binding, they have a cleaner finish. Not that easy for you to work out all the layers though and flip them 😂. Like you I hate binding and also cutting out shapes. I cut cut garment patterns all day long but if you asked me to cut .i.e 4 pieces of 10" x24" 😱🤪. Good job on the dice game and I love that camper fabric!! You stayed in one like that 😂 xxx❤

I recently heard someone mention punch needle embroidery! I would love to try it, but I really don’t need more ideas or need to buy more stuff!! lol. I have enough going on…but maybe there is a beginner kit or something that would be inexpensive to try it????

It's frustrating to sew and craft while still working. For years, I put off sewing for myself because I was too busy or tired after work. My theory was that if I wasn't having fun and enjoying the process, it wasn't worth the stress. I did the Farmers Market (sewing/craft table) during a period of unemployment just for something to do. It really wasn't financially worth the effort that went into it. You did the right thing, not stressing yourselfout. New jobs are often challenging to break into. There is the whole deciphering the type of personalities you get to work with and how they can make you feel while you are trying to learn new skills. All will be well. Mary, try not to put unrealistic expectations on your projects. Just do what you love at whatever pace comes along. What a steal on the bobbin winder! I'm like you and wouldn't put out the new price, but i would have snapped it up too, at the deal you got. By the way, I love your shorter hair. ❤ Bernadette

That's really sad considering your neckline came out so well, and the fabric is so pretty. I try to look at projects like that as learning experiences. You got more experience in the pivot and slide method of fitting. You're getting more experience in bias necklines. You also got more experience working with wovens. Not the win you were hoping for, but still a lot of experience now under your belt. I think the dress-a-girl dresses will be a good upcoming project because you can focus on sewing and not have to worry about fitting. For me fitting is always the hardest part, and projects that don't require fitting are a lot more fun to sew. I hope your Allegro pants turn out really well to keep you encouraged and motivated to sew!
