Hi, planner and ink friends! I love watching “currently-inked” and “currently-inked report-card” videos. I’ve been slowly bringing in ink samples and bottles that I love, and despite a camera-card disaster in March, I’m going to dust myself off and pick up where I am. Hi, planner and ink friends! I love watching “currently-inked” and “currently-inked report-card” videos. In the spirit of “better-late-than-never,” I’ve finally edited my February, 2023 currently linked fountain pens video. If you’re in the education profession, you’ll know that February is perhaps the most grueling month. Nevertheless, this is a play-date with myself, and so valuable for my ow...

Hi, planner and ink friends! I love watching “currently-inked” and “currently-inked report-card” videos. I’m adding this series to my channel in order to better explore all the lovelies (pens and inks) in my stash. Hi, planner and ink friends! I loved watching the annual roundup of what’s in your fountain-pen stash at the end of 2022/beginning of 2023. What a cliche, but what an appreciated re-set for my fountain pen/ink hobby in 2023. This is how I plan to escape the Hedonic Treadmill and keep my brain (and wallet) focused on appreciating and learning about what I already have. This is NOT a no-buy, but it is a conscious shift toward appreciating and learning more deeply about what I already have. I hope you all had a lovely, regenerative st...

Hi, planner and ink friends! Here’s an overview of days 2 - 5. My little resort community has had a weird attack on our electrical grid, which prevented me from doing any normal filming or uploading of content over the past several days. Hi, planner and ink friends! Are you caught off-guard by December 1? In our planner and ink community, December marks milestones and transitions at a time when we’re all “in the weeds” because of work, family, and holiday obligations. Phew. This is my first year of marking the advent with the Diamine Inkvent. I pre-filmed days 1 and 2 (and barely made this upload on time). That’s ok with me. It...

Great video!! I have been researching about this pen because I really like the extra fine nib and look of this pen. I currently have hobonichi weeks and have no problem if there's a friction my only concern is that will fountain pen cause any smudges when writing on Tomoe paper? Many thanks and thank you for the review
i had a similar experience that i dont like the pen at all , actually was more a dissapointment , i had 3 pens in my collection kinda new in the world, my fisrt and favorite pilot metro in M , a kaweco classic sport in B ,a cross century classic in M and i want to move to the next level with a more expensive fountain pain (i live in mexico so the prices are not that great as in europe or usa) , i see in a store a pelikan m200 and remember hear that the pelikan m800 is one of the best pens in the word so i wanted to try and bought it , was like 200 bucks , the package arrived and i try it , to my sorprise i hate the feel of the nib and think about it , like its a lot of money and its lightwaigt , dont have a good nib at all even my cheap kaweco is better . With the time i give it another try , now know about when you use the pen , the nib losses and feel beeter and one of the things i hate was a misaligned , i fixed and put one of my favourites ink (mont blanc 80 days arround the world blue) , and know is one of my favorites hahaha , a lot the people told me that is strange since pelikan make good nibs and they were correct , im not that good in english hopefully you understand my comment
You’re perfectly understandable! And I love that YT allows people to chat across borders. There are so many variables with nibs, feeds, and inks that it’s really difficult to isolate what the real issue is when you come across a problem. Are you happy with your nib now? I have a friend who teaches in the classroom next to mine who has a completely different experience than me just based on the angle she writes with. Good luck to you as you try to figure out whether the Pelikan is right for you, and you should have NO PROBLEM selling it even if it doesn’t suit you.
@@scribblesandinkstains yeah i like the pen now , but only with some specifics ink , bc if i put like a dry ink (i don't know the proper term) feels really bad ,but in general im pretty happy with the pen. Have a great day :D
Hi, at 6:40, what is that paper protecting the drawing? Thank you :)
Happy to help. Instead of providing specific brands or sellers, I recommend you search “glassine” sheets or rolls in your preferred search engine or art-supply source. Museums and artists use it to protect drawings. Let me know if you can’t find it and I’ll reply with specific links.
Hello, I know this is an older video but I'm hoping you can help me. Does Lennon's pen fairy ink look purple at all? My eyes say a mature purple, but when you described it as a grungy brown-gray, that really surprised me haha.
Hi! I'm not sure what I was swatching alongside during this video, but I just swatched it on TRP and Midori paper next to Lennon Tool Bar "Silkie" Silkie is decidedly a darker mature purple than Pit Sian in a swatch. From a pen nib, Pit Sian is MUCH lighter in value than Silkie and reads as a neutral gray or light desaturated purple. Pit Sian has more shading characteristics. Happy to email you a picture of the two swatches side by side later this afternoon when I can picture them in daylight.
Hi! I would definitely appreciate that! Since I'm not able to post my email in this comment, I've found you on IG and sent you a message. I appreciate your help! 🙏🏼
I'm awaiting for the availability of a Petrified Forest with medium nib on Stilo&Stile, which has the best prices in the EU.
I think you’ll very much enjoy that combination!
👌👌😍🤎
how fun, thanks for sharing
I appreciated seeing your written goals at the end. It reminded me of my need to learn more about the pend I already have.
That 'crunch' you had with the TWSBI? Look carefully all around where the nib is actually seated, under magnification, while applying that same pressure. You might find it cracked!
Good to see you 😊 And kudos for taking on those kids to finish their school year 💫 EPIC
Yes now that you mention it, I have not seen a video or comments from you in a long while. Do some of the RUclips comments regarding grammar, punctuation and sentence structure just get under you skin. I have to be extra careful now when I reply to anything by you :) Fascinating origin story. I was shocked too when I noticed the seams from the injection molding on my 1911S. The higher end models I have don't have those seams. I am always interested in the origin story, and yours was one of my favorite. Excellent video.
Yes, I'm so happy to see you on here! You rock that vacation mode look - I can't wait to hear what you have to say, just wanted to hop on and share my excitement.
Yes! I agree with your stance on purchasing ink bottles. That's one of the things that makes me want to add some more bottles to my collection so I can share with friends.
Really enjoyed this! The 743 balance and fit is perfect isn’t it? And I can’t believe you’ve been teaching double the number of English classes. The students are so lucky to have you.
I think there needs to be a little more face. Without a face the hands get disembodied. I always like seeing colors and hearing you talk about pens that dry out in days-something that bothers me.
Thanks so much for the feedback. I think I agree that I like to see faces on videos, but have to admit some reluctance when it’s my face. 😅
@@scribblesandinkstains I understand your point. But, I've seen your face. You have no reason for concern.
So happy to see your podcast and happy face! Welcome back to podcasting. Really enjoyed hearing about your fountain pen journey and inks that you've explored. Can't wait to hear about more of your experiences these next few summer months. Welcome back, you've been missed🙂
Thank you so much for your encouragement 🥰🙏🥰
Great video. So many cool things: Homebrew walnut inks, goose quills, a selfie with Drew Brown! I'm so glad that you survived the crazy teaching workload and are on the other side of it, and have a chance to recuperate. Maybe at some point I will get into the ink swap thing.. it sounds really cool. Thanks for doing this questions tag, this was great!
OMG Mari, that is so interesting that you pointed out the plastic seams that were not smoothed out on the Sailor Pro Gear Slim!! I instantly went to check all my Sailors and it looks like the 14k pro gear slims had the worst seams, then my PGS 21k (my sound of rain Sailors) and then my Pro Gear model was smooth. It looks like they cheaped out on the PGS models for the grip section seams...T_T That makes me sad because I love my PGS Nebula! XD But I'm glad the Sound of Rain series wasn't too noticeable, but it definitely is there. Time to sign a petition against Sailor to give us quality we deserve! Lol!
So I am not the only one. I have the seams only on the 1911S, which was super disappointing when I discovered them. I think it's only on the smaller (less cared about?) models. My 1911L, Pro Gear, and King of Pen 1911 don't have an issue. Can you imagine on a KOP?
I enjoy your videos so much, and admire your pursuits around art, reading, and writing. We should all make time for such things. Looking forward to seeing more!
Welcome to your summer break! Will take a look at your fountain pen companion list.
Yes!! I haven’t added Diamine celadon cat yet :-)
Mari, good to see you and thanks for sharing your responses. I love hearing about your journey. I totally would've fan-girled Drew of Toilet, as well. I learned that he was at the Chicago Pen Show too but I had already left.😔
Oh. I’d love to get to one of the big city shows one day. Drew was a near miss for me, so happy for the good luck. He was headed to lunch with his family and the Lego store. 😆
I love this spelling error! I will call Drew that from now on.
Bless your heart, Mary! I hope your break is rejuvenating and you get all the quality time you need with your hobbies. Thanks for taking the time to share this. I love hearing how and why people use their pens. 😀
Thanks for your kind words :-). I’m enjoying the long walks with my dog.
I loved this video. I agree, you have a soothing voice and I loved hearing your fp origin story!
Thanks so much, Leane. And thanks for kicking off such a sense of community with your original tag video. 😘🥰
I'm so glad you did one of these videos! I just checked my Sailors for seams and yeah! A little seam. I never noticed it on mine. I have the Spring Rain so it isn't very visible.
Hi, @cerealnana! Thanks for watching. Love your content. Hope I didn’t create a princess and the pea situation for you. I do enjoy my sailor nibs but currently far more impressed with pilot.
@@scribblesandinkstains nah, they aren't pronounced enough to bother me. I also love my Pilots. I only have a capless and an e95s in fine, but I love them!
loved this video! 🙂
Thank you Sonia :-)
I like your videos they make me happy I Hope one day that you can make it to the los angeles california show its so much fun next year I'm staying at the hotel I'm planning it out right now its gonna be amazing <3 O cant wait :)
You made my day 😘. I would love to go to either the SF show or the LA show. You’re going to have such an amazing time doing the whole hotel and after hours experiences. Can’t wait to hear about it!
@@scribblesandinkstains the airport is walking distance to the hotel from lax to the hotel I wanted to let you know it's farther to go to rent a car than to get from the furthest part of lax to the Marriott I hope they have it there next year
good stuff
Thank you. By the way, I love your nom de plume!
I only buy full bottles of ink. I think it is because I want to make pen friends (because there are NONE where I live.) I have slowed down my pen and ink purchases considerably. Now that I have a good variety of pens in different price points and from different brands, I am content and more focused on using them and only acquiring new ones for special occasions or because they have a symbolic connection (I am a sucker for branding and will buy any ink or pen named for anything representing the Desert Southwest because that's where I live!)
Hi Mara, it seems we share so many experiences. I did my undergrad work at University of Arizona, Tucson. Went there for their writing and photography programs. Loved Tucson and the surrounding mountains. Check out my Fountain Pen Companion if you’d like to swap, inks or penpal :-)
@@scribblesandinkstains Both of my parents attended U of A, and my aunt and uncle recently retired from working there! I spent most of my life in New Mexico but relocated to Northern AZ because that's where my husband wanted to retire (we live near Prescott.) My dad and my sister live in Mesa, and my grandparents lived in Phoenix.
Happy summer vacation. I remember when I taught summer school, some time around August or so, I was completely burnt out, so while I haven't done exactly what you did, I can certainly empathize. Take care of yourself, and happy inks!
Agree. Thanks for the kind comment. I’ve done curriculum work in summers past but was always able to dodge the summer school bullet. There are far too many empty classrooms and no one coming up the pipeline.
how fun, been waiting for this !!
Awe, thanks!
If you are near Winston-Salem, we could have pens and tea. There is also a small group of us getting together at Panera Bread in High Point on Sunday at 6.
Thanks so much, this is exactly the kind of connection I’m looking for! Do you all ever get together mid-day or mornings?
@@scribblesandinkstains Not right now. I bet a few of us could do that though. It would most likely be the ladies. I can bring it up this coming Sunday, if you like
The more I look at you, the more I think I know you. I used to do Pilates in the morning at a place in town.
@@Songofthehealer I’ve never done Pilates… Dog park perhaps?
Happy Summer Vacation! 🎉 Glad to see you back. 😊 This is a great tag; so glad you joined! 10+ years with fountain pens is impressive.
Thanks for your kind thoughts… pen and paper fetishes go back even further, really to elementary school 😙🙃
Pen intermittent fasting. 😅 Your last answer had me 🤣💀
😝so many appropriate parallels… including pen-collection dysmorphia. We are far too accomplished at self-torture.
You have a soothing voice. We can all use more soothing, these days.
Thank you for your kind comment 🫖🌸💕
Gorgeous pen! I’m so glad you were able to purchase and enjoy the Estie! I had the same disappointment with Sailor PGS. I’m excited to hear about your pen show experience! Loving my Esterbrook Esties. My first purchase was a custom nib grind for my Maui called the Journaler. It’s basically a Medium Stub nib. I love it! There are specific details of the custom nib grinds on the Esterbrook website. I researched there before I purchased. Thanks for sharing!
so it's interesting... I had no problem with my TWSBI nibs, but had to do some work on my Kaweco (I have two Kaweco Student pens in Medium).. so, in the future, I plan to buy more TWSBI, probably not Kaweco, even though I know they are popular. And I also use the TWSBI broad for shimmer inks with no problem
how fun.. can't wait to watch... I will poke around on your channel a bit..
I had a similar experience with my VP F nib. I originally inked with Diamine Earl Grey. I switched inks to Pilot Iroshizuku Take-Sumi and it made a world of difference! I was very close to swapping to a M nib.
Hi, Adriana--it does make me hesitant to try additional Pilot EF gold nibs. I'm going to take mine to the Triangle Pen Show in June and have a nib smith work on it. From other commenters here, it seems there is a lot of variance in smoothness of the EF Vanishing Point nib.
I love the comparison of with or without a pencil board. I find that I often take mine out of the Hobonichi because of the gap between the gutter and the edge. I end up using it as a page marker.
Thank you, Marci! Yup, that’s how I’ve used my pencil boards in the past, bookmarks. Hope your academic year is wrapping up smoothly. I bow to you staying so consistent with your channel content. Still trying to figure out a workable balance around here. We lost a teacher and I picked up an additional 3 classes right before Spring Break. #feelingburied but the year-end is in sight 🤣🤗
Such a nice pen! Before I even saw the name botanical gardens - my first thought was "Oh I love the nature feeling of it!" My advice for going to the pen show: bring water bottles to stay hydrated and snacks! You get entrenched in everything and sometimes it's hard to step away to get a drink and come back. (my only experiences were DC + Baltimore pen shows, where the coffee shop line was insanely long!)
Thanks so much for the pen show tips… so appreciated. Snacks and coffee💗🖋️🫖!! The Triangle Pen Show is just over a month away, and I suspect it’s not nearly the scale of Baltimore or DC’s shows, but it’s daunting. While I’m comfortable with Ed-tech conferences, I’m less fond of grazing vendor displays and that chitter-chatter. I would love to find pen friends there, but the thought of networking breaks my brain.
@@scribblesandinkstains I feel you, sometimes I really don't want to make the small talk. oh, another recommendation is to have little business cards or something similar with a QR code to your RUclips channel! That way you can easily share it with someone you meet.
I originally had bought the decimo with a very smooth and rather broad medium, then I got a fine nib for my TR papers and finally the EF for the very small grid in the Hobonichi, but I so far haven't gotten warm with the EF nib. I am not sure I is scratchy, but soo fine that my handwriting looks like chicken scratch and it keeps digging into the paper. I might try your suggestions of midori paper and pencil board. Although the pencil board gives a rather hard writing surface that I don't enjoy as much. I am still on the fence of selling that EF nib.
Agree, @karens-j2231. I'm on the fence regarding selling it or having it worked on at a pen show I'm attending in June. I do feel like a gold nib should have much better quality control, given the price-range, but I don't think that's the reality. ALL of my EF steel nibs are amazing, although I must admit I've never done a side-by-side comparison. Thanks for your comment.
Great video and topic, thank you!
Thanks, @KendallW; not sure how I missed this. I'm more than a little miffed that of all my EF nibs, the worst experience is the Pilot gold nib on the Vanishing Point. Note to us all: gold nibs do not always equal a superior writing experience.
Guess, what pen I ordered today. LOL. I had enough affiliate money from Atlas to get it, so I did. I was going to wait until I moved ... well, nope.
Oh Mari, I completely relate. That finicky EF vanishing point! I have a love/hate relationship with it. Currently I love it for writing down appointments in the hobo cousin since the spacing is quite narrow. I still use a very wet ink in it and it helps. Takes so much experimentation for this pen that I thought I was going crazy lol
I bought a Broad Lamy nib to replace a Fine that I didn’t like only to discover that nib will not come out of the pen. I even had a very strong nib moister try to get it off for me and he couldn’t either. So I swapped out the Fine in another Lamy pen but that one wasn’t bothering me. So now it’s bothering me that I switched out the good Fine nib 😂
Oh no! That sounds like my own princess-and-the-pea scenario 😜. I hope you’re able to eventually get that bad fine nib unstuck, or at least to feel less bothered by your nib-troubleshooting troubles 🫣. I’m thinking a really interesting addition to the 8 pen questions tag going around would be pen or nib obituaries. Or breakup letters.
I have learned to work on nibs with micromesh and brass shims. Of course you have to decide if you can improve the nib with this methods because you obviously can't send a pen back to the seller when you've worked on it. 😅 But so far I had good results, often with just some minimal smoothing on micromesh.
Excellent point. I've worked on less-expensive pens, so I am willing to do some light smoothing on that extra-fine. No regrets on buying the medium VP nib, though--it's fantastic.
Hi there, I do have a couple EF nibs. Maybe I should consider a pencil board too! Who knew!! I do have a question, unrelated to the pen investigation...where did you get the cutie that holds ink vials? I have been searching high and low...
Hi! That little cat is a Harapeko pen holder from Jetpens.com. The vials don’t fit the hole it came with, so I had my husband drill it out to a slightly larger diameter. Here’s a link (not affiliated): www.jetpens.com/Decole-Harapeko-Animal-Pen-Stand-Calico-Cat/pd/32383. There’s also a company called inkypets that 3-d prints vial holders, and I’ve seen some RUclipsrs who paint theirs to make them cuter. Thanks for watching 😙🖋
I love Pilot fountain pens, but I find they are very picky about the inks you use. Even medium-sized nibs can be difficult to use with some inks. I'm not talking about waterproof, sheen or glitter inks. I have to use wet inks for Pilot fountain pen in my experience.
Mine are filled with noodlers bullet proof inks and usually I have no problems
Yes, I think they also have that disclaimer on their labeling. I’ve had some ink flow issues with my Custom 74 medium nib. I think I’m remembering not liking the Sailor HaHa in that pen.
Love my vanishing point, I do have an EF that is scratchy, and I have many EF that are not. Maybe that's why, I am a travelers notebook junkie! (I would have bought the pen, that finish is on my wish list
Not sure why TNs don't get more love. I love how fountain pen ink plays with that paper... Maybe I'll take my EF to a nibsmith at the Triangle Pen Show and have it professionally tuned and smoothed. It's such a handy pen design, and I love the feel/heft of the body.
TFS 💫
Thanks for watching 🥰
