Ordered a custom HAND SHAPED TWINZER Surfboard "Panza" from SOMMA SPECIAL DESIGNS Episode
What's up, guys! In this episode, we dive into an in-depth conversation about the Twinzer design and the complete process of ordering a custom hand-shaped surfboard with Shea Somma @sheasomma
Somma Special Designs began in my backyard shed in 2008 with a desire to create and sample various niche board designs from the obscure corners of surfing that had intrigued me for years. Hulls, logs, and fishes were the first three areas of inquiry, and I've been chasing the unique sensations offered by alternative designs ever since. I believe surfboards are conduits to experiences, and as a shaper, I have the privilege of guiding those experiences through the shapes I create. I view hand shaping a...

    I’m an older surfer just recently back into surfing….decent pop up and currently on 9’1 “ longboard. Early intermediate I’d say. I dont really like longboard but live in SC with small waves ( like Charleston) I’m 5’9” and 145 lbs. pretty fit. What type of board would you recommend for me? I am drawn to mini simmons but it might be to skatey for my skills / age

    Hi skipper, great content as always!! Do you think this board as 6.0 could replace a proper mid in terms of wave catching? Im thinking on this board for travelling to go along a shortboard. Mostly point breaks max 6ft. Or better SSB 6.8 even though not as easy for travelling? Im 170lb intermediate living inland surfing lost rnf96 33l and D2 31l mainly beach breaks. Thanks boss!!!

I like your channel because you surf junky waves (I live in SoNJ and surf same junky waves too) and you show tests of boards in the local waves. Seeing super-pro's on fantastic waves doesn't give much indication of what a board does. So thanks!

  • @bfresh796
    @bfresh796 28 дней назад

    I really don’t like surfing my 5’7 mashup over 5ft. When it gets into 6-8 I don’t even consider it so it’s validating to hear you had the same somewhat frustrating experience trying to surf 6-8 onshore haha which…on the central coast of CA where I live…is typical in the winter so it’s usually my early fall board. Honestly, I bought a Lost RNF instead that I surf before I get into my step up. It handles some size and critical sections way better way better. Thanks for the honest review bru !

    Do you think that this would be a good minisimons alternative for a bigger guy? I'm 6'3" and 210lbs. I always struggle on boards less than 6'4 as my back foot lands off the board. It pretty much looks like a longer minisimons but the fin placement is a bit different. Great video btw. 👌

    • @SkipperSurfReview

      Thank you, buddy! It’s not quite a Mini Simmons. Based on your height and weight, the 6’6” Beastie 2.0 would feel more like a shortboard for you but more user friendly. Your ideal Mini Simmons size would be 5’10” x 22 x 3, which would give you enough float and make it easier to turn the board back to the pocket. What boards do you surf now?

    • @SkipperSurfReview
      @SkipperSurfReview Месяц назад

      Thanks for watching! The Skiff is more of a down-the-line board, offering a skatey feel with a lot of speed. It's ideal for waves in the 1-3 foot range. The original shape of the Mini Super is based on a Mini Simmons design. It performs well in a wide range of conditions, from ankle slappers up to 4-5 feet. My Mini Super was shaped from a blank with a rocker, allowing for more precise turns. Basically it's got way. more performance over Skiff. It also catches waves more easily and glides slightly better than the Skiff, in my opinion. Despite this, the Skiff is still a fun board. If I had to choose between the two, I would go with the Mini Super any day. Hope this helps!
