In a lot of cases, I think it comes down to societal expectations, meaning it’s more acceptable socially to be with a woman than the man, especially in cultures that hold strongly onto traditional values. I’ve spent some time abroad and have sexual encounters with bisexual men. While romantically and sexually they were interested, they absolutely refused to actually date me as homosexual relations are widely frowned upon in their culture. While being with gay men may be easier in some ways, societal wise and depending on the family you’re raised in (are they accepting, not accepting etc) and how much you value your family and societies opinions there’s just a lot less pressure when you’re with a woman. So that’s what they do. They have sex with men, but only show their female relations to the public eye to escape the stigma of being gay. Sad but I think this is the case a lot of times.

I moved to Dallas about 20 years ago from the D.C. area. Which bathouse was it? In 2010, we had CLUB DALLAS, MIDTOWNE SPAs or CLUB BABYLON? The latter 2 have since closed down. The only one that is open now is CLUB DALLAS. None of them have ever really appealed to a large black g4y male crowd, from my experience. THere have always been a few there but those clubs primarily cater to an older white male demographic. Probably mid to late 40s y.o. and up. If you do catch younger dudes in there, most are those young waif-like meth head white boys.

They may have an easier relationship with another man, but they surely would have an easier life with a woman. At the end of the day, the pressure from society to be with the opposite sex (something that leads even gay men to marry women) or the pressure against gay relationships can just be overwhelming to people. If you are a man, you will never be looked differently for being with a woman, you will never have any legal hurdles for having children, you will never face hostility from family and neighbors, never have to hear offensive jokes or see people looking at you with disgust, you will never have your masculinity denied or diminished, you will never be beaten up on the street for holding hands to your beautiful wife. A bisexual man with a woman for a girlfriend or a wife will never feel pressure from family and society to be with a man instead. But a bisexual man with another man, well, that is just what happens. Now, that pressure does exist for gay men as well (hence the "gay men married to women" example), but bisexual men actually like women, so it is the "path of least resistance" for them compared to us. And that also affects the gay men who date bisexual men. Now, there is nothing wrong with bisexual people, but I would bet that, if there is data on this, bisexual men are more likely to end up married to a woman than another man. How many gay men have not been left for a woman by a bisexual guy? And I don't even blame the bisexual guy, the pressure must be overwhelming more often than not. It is like the "Muslim guy who dates you for two years then dumps you to marry a proper Muslim girl" trope.

Okay it's true that there are some problems when it comes to bisexual men and their subconscious thinking of dating women vs men but you just spouted off a whole bunch of misogynistic drivel at women and I just had to stop half way through. You're essentially saying that women provide nothing beneficial towards men and this is just not true. The story you shared of your one woman friend who didn't believe in 50/50, if she doesn't plan to have children or home care while the guy is working, that's just a bum and there are men who do this to women too but she's an exception to this rule because In the modern world right now, it's not possible to live on a single household income unless you're very wealthy and so in these days, in most relationships both working class men and women in relationships work jobs. Speaking of which, you highlight how men out the gate make more money than women but there's a reason for that. The main reason for that really is sexism. how way back in the day, a woman working in a factory made less money than her male counterpart because of sex-based prejudice and how women's work" (jobs in hospitality like caregivers and nurses), the woman is paid less because their stereotypical line of work is deemed as "not important" when it totally is (taking care of elderly and just how much nurses do when working in hospitals). And even to the stay at home mom, raising children and keeping the house in order, a lot goes into that as well. And besides that, women still offer things like emotional support with their partner. And don't get me started on the dumb "uterus transplant" thing, how you can sit there and talk about that and not see how misogynistic that is to women, I'm just at a loss. Again, bisexual men have their problems which is what keeps some gay men from not wanting to deal with them. But the answer to why many bi men choose to date women over men is because they want unironic straight privilege, they want the social acceptance that comes with being in a hetero relationship. Because bisexual men can be attracted to the opposite sex unlike us gay men, they are able to get that aforementioned "straight privilege" in the most unironic way possible. So this is why many choose to date women while only viewing men as sex objects but even this comes with problems because a lot of these bi men who get into relationships with women will still have that itch every now and then for gay sex (they call this the "bi-cycle") and they will cheat on their unsuspecting girlfriend or wife (those "married discreet" profiles you see on gay dating apps who have no pictures) which is just wrong and leads into why it's totally understandable why women don't want to typically deal with bisexual men neither.

Other than the "trans" stuff, I think you were for the most part right. I say "most" because while this may be true for black masculine or masculine-leaning men, it's a whole different thing when it comes to black feminine gay men but that's a whole other psychological trip. Though again what you said in part 1 about how interracial relationships with black/non-black can come to be still stands. When you explained how when you were younger, you had a nerdy non-traditionally black look to you and how you had not many black men going for you only until after you went through a bit of a metamorphosis and THEN they wanted you but you already found someone who accepted you at that early state, it's just so obvious and it's somrthing that happens a lot. I think you're right that it does come down to jealousy a lot of the time. The black guy who was not seen as desirable but manages to find a guy in this case non-black) and as the black guy starts feeling more confident and plays around with his look which makes him more conventional attractive and then suddenly the black gay men who weren't interested in him at first then want to come around but it's too late. It's just a jealousy response and it's time best spent just focusing on yourself and finding that right guy for yourself.

Very well said, this topic is one that is very frustrating because often times the black gay men who criticize other black men who get into relationships with non-black men only see what they want to see and they don't even try to understand why that happened. Outside of just simply opening up your racial preferences because gay men already make up a small percentage of the overall population, there's also just some rather tough realities that come from within the black community and how it trickles into the gay black sphere. Consistently from what I've seen with black gay men who do tend to get into long-term relationships with non-black men are usually black guys who were nerdy or not "hood" and these black men who criticize know that they were not searching for nerdy or non-hood black men. Instead they say things like how we're "white-washed" or an "uncle tom" or "coon" and it's like, why would a black man like this who is only trying to be himself want to continue putting up with that? And not only that but being closeted ("DL") is a very common thing in the black gay community and this can create another roadblock for a black gay man who is out and doesn't want to date someone who is DL. And sure, not every black gay man is like this but depending on your location, it can take a very long time to find another compatible black gay man to be with and life is short so it's better to just be open about race in the long-run. It's true that you gotta be careful when it comes to non-black gay men and weed out the ones who are simply trying to fetishize you which gets easier to identify with time and experience but it can be done. I just think it's important for these particular black men who complain about black gay men in interracial relationships to try to understand. And your point about Billy Porter is so on-point. He was the effeminate black boy when he was young and got ragged on by other black men and he just simply opened his preferences and then as soon as he finds someone and also finds success in his career, now black men want to complain? Please. Same with RuPaul who had a similar experience of not being the standard of what black gay men typically found attractive and as soon as he gets into a relationship and found fame, he got called similar things as well.

As an older black gay man (50s) I can relate to some of your arguments and some of the benefits of being in a gay male relationship that you mention. But I think you too quickly forgot the answer that you mentioned yourself. - Many bi men, especially those in the black and other minority cultures, value the social and familial acceptance A LOT more than all the other (potential) benefits you mention. - I’ve known a good number of bi men. Most of them CANNOT give up the benefit of having a female partner and being with a man, because they are deadly afraid of being stigmatized (and abandoned) by family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, random ppl, etc. For those men the image of being a MAN means having a woman and having ppl see that he’s taking care of her. For them, being with a man would be just as impossible as you or me being with a woman. At the risk of being accused of being misogynistic, I hear so many married men complain about some of the things you mentioned about women. So I won’t dismiss them all. But on the flip side, women complain about men just as much. Also, for older bi men, they may have married before they were comfortable with their sexuality, or before the current acceptance of LGBT+.

I see where you coming from with your point of view. But you can't produce a family without a women its that simple. The nurturing and feminine energy of women is needed.
