I searched up shibuyu arc and this came up
Well....welcome! 😃
Carl I've watched so many videos and yours is the best
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!
You still didn't give any actual meaning or reason for the gates elements other than some basic explinational of the whole shinto religion.
3:34: "And usually, at the front of these shrines, a torii gate...like these...mark the entrance to Shinto Shrines and recognizable symbols of the religion." Is there a clarification you'd want past that? For example, are you referring to why that shape is chosen? Thanks for the comment, by the way. I appreciate you taking the time to comment.
@carlrosa1130 yes... why the shape? and why the elements of the construction, such as the two horizontal beams and the curve upward and such?
@@ShaneHerrick Good question and thanks fo r the reply. The problem with answering it is because not all torii gates have the same shape. They use the same 'style' of two posts with a top bar..but some don't have the arched top - just straight. Others use highly ornate torii gates and some are downright dull and 'boring.' Some have angeled legs and some are straight/vertical. Check out these torii gates: Gate 1: gethiroshima.com/features/miyajima-shrine-gate-renovation-officially-completed/ Gate 2: japanjourneys.jp/yamanashi/kawaguchiko/attractions/tenku-no-torii/ Gate 3: zekkeijapan.com/article/index/643/?page=2 The 'design' of the toriis seem to be very open to artistic flair. I'd like your opinion as well.
Hi Carl, I always appreciate your wealth of knowledge in Japanese history. Despite the fact that I’ve been to Japan five times (3 of your tours btw), all of the facts you’ve mentioned are indeed new to me. Very informative and wonderful video. Thank you for your hardworking and sharing your knowledge. Take care.
Thank you so much. I'm working on a similar video about the Emperor and Imperial palace. Lots of things no one would ever know!
I suffer from panic attcks and i got demophobia, crossing these streets for me i think its impossible,a very hard last boss undefeatble, peace from Italy.
Why do Americans always lecture others on topics that people from cultured countries already know?
Because people want to visit foreign lands and people are afraid to travel there without understanding it. If someone from their own land can explain it in a similar way (that makes it relatable), it helps people.
In New Orleans, specially during Mardi Gras, they compete as who throws more chicken bones, cups and even bras on the streets! What a contrast!😊
Thank you very for your very useful video and I am going to learn from this video many times and from your other videos too. I am learning Kaisen and want to apply the concept for my Food Forest project in Cambodia.
Ik something aint right.. 🎉🎉
Visiting in November I've never been so excited. Any tips for November musts in the golden triangle or Hiroshima/miyajima day visit
First off - I'm excited for you! I''ll be there in November as well! I'm bringing three tour groups through Japan from October 15th - December 1st. I'll be in Japan for about 46 days straight. I have SO many recommendations for you. It really depends on what you enjoy doiing - food, photography, history, fitness, relaxation, books, shopping, etc. I can help you here (chatting here) or you can email me at carldrosa@yahoo.com. Whichever you like. And if you're going to Hiroshima/Miyajima - yes. LOTS of recommendations!
I always stay within a block or two of Kyoto station when I visit Japan and I did stay at the Granvia one year when they had an especially good rate on their rooms. This was especially nice when I had to take the 1st train in the morning to Kansai airport. I'm not a gourmet/Michelin type of diner, but most Japanese restaurants are usually very good to excellent so it's more about variety for me. Kyoto station has more variety for food choices than just about anywhere. There are 2 floors of restaurants in the Isetan department store which is connected to the station, including the ramen street mentioned in the video. There are 2 separate dining areas on the south side of the station, and another dining area at the north entrance. If you walk a few blocks outside the station, there are several other food areas. In case it's not clear, the Christmas tree display is actually produced by LED lights on the risers of stairs that go all the way up to the 11th floor of the Isetan store. They change the display depending on the seasons and once the sun goes down there's almost always a crowd watching and taking pictures. There's also a computerized waterfall in the shopping area by the south entrance to the station ruclips.net/video/BCH8tP16CP4/видео.html
Thank you for the comment. Yes - 'Welcome to Miyako Michi" waterfall. I bring everyone there. But...directly across the street is the New Miyako Hotel with a vending machine room that includes - vending machine hot dogs, rice to go, whiskey and scotch and corn dogs. Just an FYI. Thanks again for the comment.
Thank you. It's a very well-made video. Informative and to the point.
Thank you so much!
Hi Carl that’s indeed very useful info. Thanks! I checked Hanasato’s website for a possible reservation and they talk about Hida beef… so, this is then a type of Kobe I assume?
Hida Beef is the Japanese Black Cow as well. Called Hida Gyu. Hida Beef originates from the Hyogo prefecture. In the early 80s, a single Japanese Black Cow was introduced to the region to enhance the quality of the meat. Since then, farmers have diligently worked to breed superior cattle for wagyu. The marbling of Hida Beef is exceptionally pronounced, leading to its classification into two categories: regular Hida Beef and Hida Wagyu Beef, with the latter being rated A4 or A5. You'll find it identical to Kobe Beef. Either way - Hida or Kobe, you'll be very very very happy. Enjoy!
@@carlrosa1130 we were able to make a reservation for tonight 🤗🥩🎉 I’ll update you about our experience
@@carlrosa1130 So, this was a great experience! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge on this topic and directing us to this nice restaurant. The owner and staff were so friendly and the Hida beef…. man …. 🥰 I showed the owner your vid where you recommend his place and he really liked it! Thanks again for enhancing our amazing journey even more!
@@marcel_vG You made my day. Thank you so much!
'The world ends with you'
Hi. Any suggestions as a day trip here from Tokyo on Mid February?
Sure! But leave early in the morning (maybe 7 AM) from either Tokyo Station or Ueno station. It will take you about 2.5 hours - 3 hours to get there. So you would be in Echigo Yuzawa by 10:00 am. Then you'll have the whole day. You'll LOVE IT.
Hi, I’m actually in Kyoto right now in a hotel just a few steps from this station and.. couldn’t agree more! It’s an amazing creation. However, the Kanazawa station is also really worthwhile to make such a nice video about 😊
Kanzawa is nice as well. I was there two weeks ago. My most recent video (about Kobe Beef) that I uploaded about 1 week ago starts with the opening of Kanazawa station. It's a great spot too. Hope you enjoy Kyoto!!!!
@@carlrosa1130 cool! I’ll certainly check that video out as we have an upcoming daytrip to Kobe in the next days 😃
This is like a dream. PLEASE bring this mindset to America. We need it!! 😩🙌
I so agree with you, SpaceMuffin.
Thanks brother, from Fushimi Inari Taisha Sembon Torii (Thousand Torii Gates) 千本鳥居 I am now walking through the gates with a better feeling for them.
I love Fushimi Inari! I was there about 2 months ago (again). I only go there now at about 7 am. Hardly no one is there other than the cleaning crew, sweeping the steps. And you can get some amazing photos. But by 9 am/10 am, it's packed.
Was there
I didn’t know. Thank you.
My pleasure! Thank you for commenting!
Very interesting! Thanks!
Very informative, thank you 🙏
Thank you so much!
THANK YOU for this VERY helpful clarification 🥰 NOW I know it better for the next trip to J and don’t fall in the Tourist traps (again) 😅👌

Thank you so much!
I have traveled and lived in Japan. This guy really understands how to find the real non touristy Japan. Great advice and well presented.
How is all this Japanese? seems common sense
Thanks for the run down! As a proud "otaku," who enjoys Japanese anime, manga, video games, & the culture in general, it was ultimately the HEALTH benefits that led me to matcha in particular! (What's not to like, it's a green tea you prepare like "Nesquick" lol!) Thanks again!
Thank YOU for the comment. It is truly appreciated. I just returned from Japan and about to upload a video about Kobe Beef/Wagyu/Matsusaka Beef tomorrow night. Then, I'm teaching about 20 sushi classes and flying back to Japan again. Then, I'm heading back to Kakegawa - a region for the finest green tea fields in all of Japan.
Highly underrated video.
Exeptionaly good
Thank you so much!
Haha the spelling of "shiny" you used ( shiney) for rice is exactly my name
Yep. I always catch myself too later on that one. I have always struggled with remembering whether it needs an 'e' or not. Glad you caught it. You definitely caught one of my 10,000 blunders in these videos, LOL. Good catch! 🤣
@@carlrosa1130 well my dad made the same mistake and my name is "Shiney" ( real name lol )
@@silviagonzalez1814 Ha Ha. That's awesome! And thanks for the comment, too. I hope you enjoyed the video.
What a great ,i rarely ever comment, but this content really made me to
Thank you so much. As I indicate within the video description, you can add many more things to it - fish roe, paprika, etc....but this was the most basic and easy spicy mayo to make at home. I keep it simple. 🙂
Hi Carl, your video is amazing! It confirms my thoughts on Japanese products, for example. I bought some Japanese stationery and I was extremely impressed by its quality. Whereas the stationery that I might purchase at a local store is often junk and of poor quality. Even stationery that is considered “cheap” by Japanese standards is amazing, in my opinion.
It's a phenomenal place. The mindset of their overall lifestyle translates...every through inexpensive stationary. Thanks so much for the comment!
Apple made small changes but yearly and they were critisized!
No, I don't think you understand the 'small changes' and how they apply. Apple most certainly doesn't use Kaizen.
You were wonderful! Thank you!
Thank YOU for the comment!
Excelent! Thank you! I'm looking forward to chapter 2.
Thank you for the comment. I'm very slowly working on the second video...and using Kaizen to do it. It will take time...but it will be PERFECT. 🙂
Crazy how their sworn enemies (China) cannot live up to these awesome qualities. Respect
Culture, combined with history, is extraordinarily complicated. Thanks for the comment.
Got the JR pass 5 years ago when I last went. It was totally worth it and includes JR lines in Tokyo IIRC. But come again this time and they have increased the price so it was not worth it. So got separate fares instead. You need to go through with two tickets - fare ticket and express ticket and put them through the barrier before going onto the Shinkansen. If you’re going to multiple destinations like we did - Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima and then back to Tokyo then there can be multiple tickets and can get confusing. Just check you have them all before leaving from Tokyo.
Thank you for the comment. I respectfully disagree about the second part of your comment. When someone is visiting Japan for the first time (which is what my channel is all about) and they've never stepped foot into Japan before, they will not understand the intricacies of separate fares, fare ticket and express ticket, etc. When someone visits Japan for the first time and they are planning to visit multiple cities, the cost savings and basic convenience of a standard JR Pass are immeasurable. Thanks again for the comment.
@@carlrosa1130 I would have spent £400 for the journies I did. Buying separate fares cost around £200. So in my case it was not worth the JR pass this time. If I was going more than the destinations then yes, but it would have be a lot more than the 4 I did this time round.
@@badabing8884 I understand...and thank you for the comment! Did you enjoy Japan?
Great video! How long does this ginger last?
Thanks for the comment! About 3 months or longer. It will mature with age until it has a fantastic flavor...but after 4 months, I would be skeptical.
cool :)
Could you imagine the traffic if all these people drove
That’s where hatchikos statue is there! I always wondered 😮 wanted to see it myself. Such a sad movie too❤ 🐾
There are actually two Hachiko Statues in the area - one is at the Shibuya Station and one is in front of Tower Records, about 3 blocks away from the same train station.
