I always stay within a block or two of Kyoto station when I visit Japan and I did stay at the Granvia one year when they had an especially good rate on their rooms. This was especially nice when I had to take the 1st train in the morning to Kansai airport.
I'm not a gourmet/Michelin type of diner, but most Japanese restaurants are usually very good to excellent so it's more about variety for me. Kyoto station has more variety for food choices than just about anywhere. There are 2 floors of restaurants in the Isetan department store which is connected to the station, including the ramen street mentioned in the video. There are 2 separate dining areas on the south side of the station, and another dining area at the north entrance. If you walk a few blocks outside the station, there are several other food areas.
In case it's not clear, the Christmas tree display is actually produced by LED lights on the risers of stairs that go all the way up to the 11th floor of the Isetan store. They change the display depending on the seasons and once the sun goes down there's almost always a crowd watching and taking pictures. There's also a computerized waterfall in the shopping area by the south entrance to the station ruclips.net/video/BCH8tP16CP4/видео.html

Thank you for the comment. Yes - 'Welcome to Miyako Michi" waterfall. I bring everyone there. But...directly across the street is the New Miyako Hotel with a vending machine room that includes - vending machine hot dogs, rice to go, whiskey and scotch and corn dogs. Just an FYI. Thanks again for the comment.

Hi, I’m actually in Kyoto right now in a hotel just a few steps from this station and.. couldn’t agree more! It’s an amazing creation. However, the Kanazawa station is also really worthwhile to make such a nice video about 😊

Kanzawa is nice as well. I was there two weeks ago. My most recent video (about Kobe Beef) that I uploaded about 1 week ago starts with the opening of Kanazawa station. It's a great spot too. Hope you enjoy Kyoto!!!!
