Pro Bike Breakdown: How I built a race ready triathlon bike on a budget
Are you still using it? Any new updates? What brand is it? I'm looking at one for my argon disc brake. Thanks for the video
humans were born to Walk !! Biking fun, but bad ergo
I could tell you what my chineese friend who have carbon wheel company told me about western opinion about chineese stuff and what a reality is, but im going to sleep now
they are coming from China anyway - just a different name
Rockbros took this seriously and came out with a half frame.
ELLY-XPRESS😂
Will it go onto my 2019 cervelo p3 or is a drill required? Also my bike has external cables and will they still be external or become internal with this setup?
What is the exact setup you mention?
1:13 scoop ultimate?
This looks so wrong
Okay bro.
I have a Felt triathlon B with manual shifters. Would this work for that??
Yup! It absolutely does and it's a great combo.
tririg makes their own garmin mount
Thanks for the video! I have one question. What is the width of these spokes? I have older trispoke wheels from Superteam and these spokes are as wide as the rims. I see Elite spokes are narrower, but want to know how narrow.
Love this. Great bang for the buck
Unbelievable improvements for me. Went from 170mm to 160mm on my road bike. I sit more symmetrical on the saddle; I sit right in the pocket of my saddle. No more shifting forward/backwards. Much more power as well with overall comfort.
Lovely bike, i have a 2017 s5 thinking about getting a TT bike and just came across this video of yours... Would you say tribars on an S5 would be enough should i go the TT route... ? Have been looking into P3 frames would like to build one over a time period... P.s. what kind of avg speed were you able to get out of this setup for 40k / half iron / iron distances would be nice to know set wattage too if you remember... ?
The S5 is still a very fast frame, but the main advantage of a TT frame is going to be enabling you to get into the proper position, generally significantly more forward with saddle closer to the bottom bracket and further over the front wheel. Something like the new TriRig Sigma One stem could also be an interesting option for your s5, as it would give all the advantages of a modern aerobar setup just from the stem! The year I raced this at Indian Wells 70.3 I averaged 276w for 25.1mph. That was before the course got changed to being a bit faster!
@@bendeal3516 Great wattage and speed! That's awesome, I have managed to do 40kms (25miles) on flat but windy course at an AVG speed of 36kph (22.3 mph) on the S5 with the profile design aero bars and the sl70 Zipp bar at 205w... I will look into your recommended stem, have heard good reviews about tririg brakes... Cheers and ride on!
Thank you so much for this video Ben, you have no idea how much it helps!
great glasses I use them for quite some time 👌
Do you recommend a neoprene swim cap?
Great build man! You can not beat that for $.
I bought a quad spoke clincher road wheel and the hub spun out when the hub came unglued from wheel. Last 2 years before stranding me. Super team
956g is far too heavy. My 12 year old Corima tri spoke is 700g.
Lmao is it 400$
Comparable glasses from Smith are $300. Yes, that's 15 pairs of those for one Smith, also made of cheap plastic. Photochromics that go full clear don't get that dark no matter what price you pay.
Ben this video is awesome! I just saw this. Thank you so much for the detailed look at the bar! Also great work on the videography. Nice composition, lighting, shallow depth of field, just lovely.
Years later and there still aren't any bars that do it better than the Alpha One!
How do you know which direction to install the front wheel on your bike? Is it labelled?
Like an airplane wing, the leading edge of the spoke should be rounded, while the trailing edge is sharper. If not, less aero benefit.
Budget bike stand.
If track sprinters can produce the absurd power they do on 165mm cranks, I'm not sure anyone should be concerned about lack of torque.
Thanks so much for this video. I have a 2009 cervelo and was wondering if I should be looking to upgrade but this video has just got me psyched to become stronger and just build my engine!
Upgrades are definitely fun but the old cervelos still have lots of life left! Glad you found the video!
Also I don't know why you mention FLO when their wheels have shown to be terrible.. they are not even in the ballpark of performance wheels.
Thats the same as revolver and other western brands.
If you ever change the bearings it would be great if you can share the measurments here :)
Awesome video! I just did Hawaii 70.3 and the run was on a golf course 😢. Not fun at all. Thank you for pointers. I’ll see you at the race!
the wheels look nice, let us know how they go. shame it looks like no center lock option for the disc rotors.
first
honestly i dont do much road cycling but the vid was interesting
Better to have DI2 brother
Used to want to upgrade to the canyon speedmax but now want tririg more after your video 😅
Can you order the whole bike with the disc wheel and the alpha one? or you have to buy them separately
Thanks for the video- What do you mean by split transition?
It means T1 and T2 are in different locations. So the bike is a point to point rather than a loop that comes back to where the swim was. This mostly just means the day before is a little more involved because you have to go to two locations to check in/check your bike. Otherwise, everything else is pretty much the same!
This was an exceptional explanation! Thanks.
nice review. I think I'll get the half-frame version.
Thank you for this! Very helpful info.
Very good review. You should do this more. Thank you
Thanks for walking us through Ben! My question is how do you install this on a bike with mechanical shifters? I have a canyon speedmax cf 8 disc. I see I can set a phone call with you via Tririg, so maybe that is the best thing to do.
Very helpful video Ben! I noticed you are running a 1X, you just switched a Di2 lead wire over from the extensions to the base bar brake Di2 shifter? Then plugged the left extension and standard brake. Did you have to do anything special to make sure the extension shifter and base bar shifter control the rear derailleur? Thanks!
Hey Keith! When I set everything up I was just able to connect to the e-tube software via my charger/bcr2 and individually change each switch setting so both shifters control the rear derailleur. For hilly races, I sometimes add a front derailleur and then reprogram it so the brake lever shifter control the front derailleur. It's a bit of a hassle to hook it up but once you've done it a few times it's pretty easy to make changes!
can you hide a sram blip box in this as well?
Will this work with canyon aero? It has H36
Brill video George UK
Will this cockpit work for a felt IA 16 mechanical?
Where do you put your power meter?
It absolutely will work on the IA 16! Here are a few pictures of the alpha one on that bike: (imgur.com/a/bH9XWxS). While these both have electronic shifting, mechanical will work just as well!
@@bendeal3516 Right on. I just got mine with the closed scoops and carbon one extensions. Going to the bike shop asap to get it set up. Ended up getting the skewers and brake for my whip as well.
Hi, how much is your saddle tip to arm pads drops?? Thanks!
Hey Ben bars look great! 2 questions: 1-will the alpha one work with cervelo p5-3 (the older [2017] uci rim brake cervelo p5) ; 2- how do the scoops ultimate work with the extensions do you just cut whatever extension and plug it into the cradle? And so with that do you really need to get the gamma 115 or gamma one for example if you end up just cutting the end off to pop into the enclosure.
1. Yes the Alpha One will definitely work with the p5-3! Without a doubt the best cockpit upgrade for that bike, especially when paired with an Omega brake! 2. Any 22.2mm extensions will work fine, so no need for tririg ones. Obviously any extension will require a lot of trimming as they insert about 2-3 inches into the end of the Scoops, so it's definitely a measure twice cut once type thing! Lots of customers just use their previous extension set or a spare pair they may have lying around. If you're looking at ordering the bundle but don't want the 115s or any extensions at all you can reach out to info@tririg.com and they can make the changes and keep the discounts.
@@bensummerdeal9528 Great thanks Ben very helpful. And yes had the Omega brakes on all my tri bikes love them!
Thanks, Ben, just the kind of review I needed 👍 Looks like I'll need to look elsewhere.
great video
