Unbelievable improvements for me. Went from 170mm to 160mm on my road bike. I sit more symmetrical on the saddle; I sit right in the pocket of my saddle. No more shifting forward/backwards. Much more power as well with overall comfort.

A very nice short but concise explanation of the benefits of short cranks .Well done.

I use 170 on my TT bike but would love to try 165. I think the leverage argument is legit in shorter sprint efforts but less helpful for us Tri dorks where that hip angle is crucial. Great video! 👏

I had always been curious about going shorter but couldn't be convinced to spend the money until I actually got to try it out on a fit bike. Really night and day as far as hip angle goes. A few degrees doesn't sound like a lot but you can definitely feel it!

@@bensummerdeal9528 - And 172 down to 165 is a good drop. It's probably hard to feel anywhere other than the him flexors. Good luck in Cali. We'll all be cheering for you!

Good video and clear explanations. I switched to 165mm as well but I’m still riding 170s on the road bike. What do you have on yours and would you consider short cranks as well there?

So I'm still on 172.5mm on my road bike, though to be clear I barely ever ride that bike! While I don't think shorter cranks on the road bike would hurt me, unless I could make the swap for $0, I don't think I'll bother. I would be curious though if it would feel like I'm losing power while climbing or sprinting which I pretty much never have to do on my tri bike. Maybe at some point I'll swap my tri bike cranks over to my road bike to test it!

Did you adjust your cockpit after raising your seat?
Great video and makes total sense. I’m similar height and interested in trying. Just figuring out if easy enough adjustments I can do, but don’t want to mess up my fit either.
    Thanks Ben!

I did raise it a bit to compensate for the saddle height increase, but honestly I play around with my pad stack so much that I don't really track height all that closely!

@@bensummerdeal9528 thanks again! I’ll write back when I get around to doing it.

If track sprinters can produce the absurd power they do on 165mm cranks, I'm not sure anyone should be concerned about lack of torque.
