      Coeur D'Alane collab?? I think that's the closest we're getting to your neck of the woods this year!

      @@bensummerdeal9528 - I would love that but I think I'm going to be at a different race that weekend. We'll definitely have to find a time to connect and make some videos 👍

    Love the content, I have been wondering about your 1x set up for a while. For a pro, this seems to make more sense, this is set up as a race specific bike and you can tune it for each race. For amateurs, until there is more range, I can't see myself moving to a 1x set up. On mountain bikes, they have a rear setup that goes from 10 - 52, but the jumps are going to be huge and I am guessing it is not compatible with the wheels you have.
    Do you climb the crest, la luz, or tram with this bike?

      Thanks! To be clear, I do all of my racing AND training on this bike. So if I have to do gearing changes or anything I'll just do that before a race. I did La Luz once last year and promised to never do it again on any bike. I thought it was miserable haha. I have climbed the crest a few times using the 56t front ring and an 11-32 in the back. Tough and grindy, but not the worst thing ever! Unless I'm going to the crest though, I keep the 11-28 on. A few weeks ago I had a great ride in the mountains including 1 and a half times Oak Flats and to the Tram from the traffic circle all on the 11-28.
      Thankfully swapping cassettes doesn't take too much time so I'm always back and forth. And with an older setup I even used to run an 11-36 if I needed it! I do think 1x is more accessible to all ability levels than the common knowledge dictates, but it helps to have a complete understanding of what you're getting yourself into :)

    Great video! 2x 105 vs. 1x GRX?? I’m getting my first bike. I want and all-arounder. I’ve ridden all the gravel bikes and I personally like the specialized diverge comp. I ride 80%-road and 20%-where does that trail lead to? The diverge felt closest to a road bike which I liked.
    2020 diverge comp offers 2x shimano 105. The 2021 offers 1x GRX. For a ride leaning mostly towards road; keeping up with my friends on their endurance bikes with the option to trail lightly - Which would you suggest 105 or GRX?
    Thank you!

      Hmmm. That's a tough one. At 80% road I think my recommendation would slightly depend on how hilly it is around you. Not that a 1x system can't handle the hills, and especially a 1x GRX system that probably has a pretty good climbing gear, but you may just end up being happier with 2x if you're always climbing. I still think the simplicity of the 1x trumps almost any 2x system though. People drop chains when they shift their front chainring, especially in hilly areas. No possibility of that with the 1x!

    I have my mtb 48t chainring and 11-42t cassette. I only ride on flats but sometimes uphill. Is it normal to use the biggest cogs when climbing? Some people think it's stupid that I converted my bike to 1x. But for me its simple and less maintenance.

    • @bensummerdeal9528

      Absolutely! If the gear is on the bike there is no reason not to use it. A few years ago I had a race with a ~20 minute climb and I spent the entire thing in my 36 cog. I almost ran the 11-32 instead of the 36 but super glad I went with the bigger one. Even if you could climb in a higher gear, sometimes it's nice to be able to spin with a faster cadence while climbing. And totally agree on the simplicity of it. That's definitely my favorite aspect.

    Hello, my experience with 1x has been pretty fine so far, I enjoy the much better ratios I am getting but what I do not like is the shifting has become horrible after dumping the front derailleur, it’s so unreliable now. Do you have any advice on how I can fix this? And do you have this problem with shifting with your 1x set ups?

    • @bensummerdeal9528
      @bensummerdeal9528  3 года назад

      Hmm. I haven't had any problems with shifting, but my first thought goes to if you mixed any 10 and 11 speed parts? Some of them are interchangeable, but if the cassette and chain aren't the same speed it can create some shifting issues. What drivetrain are you using?

      @@bensummerdeal9528 I use a 10 speed chain from kmc, 10 speed n/w chainring, and I'm running 10 gears. the chain and chainring's manufacturers said their products could do for 9 and 11 speeds too.. My bud told me it could be poor tuning, but im not sure how that works
