      Christoph Buomberger I agree. It was about time someone released something like this.

    I now run quite a complete 1x setup on my triathlon bike with a 58t oval Stone Workshop NW chainring, OSPW(lowest spring setting) and a 14-25t casstte(very narrow range but I'm very picky about cadence). this way with my relatively low speed and 95-105rpm cadence, I mainly use the 5 middle cogs
    So, in this case, a very big chainring but a narrow mid range cassette is the most efficient option for me

    I remember about 8 years ago I removed my front derailleur to try a 1X on a standard 2X big ring before there was 1X chain rings. It rode perfectly over my local 40K ride until I did my sprint at the end and instantly dropped the chain.

      Norevlimitr I guess that proves the importance of the chainring

    Another nice, informative and logical video. I have the same issues as you, like to mess with bikes and tech and think things through. If you are like this then 1X is a great platform for setting up the bike perfectly for the event and terrain. Most arguments against it tend to distill down to convenience and people who just want to ride.

      Akathe Squid thanks. It's true, I wouldn't use it on an unknown course either.

      If you would be so kind I have a couple questions. on the 1x sync chainrings do you need short chainring bolts? Do you have to use SRAM chain or are you using Connex there? and finally the model of your chainkeeper? thanks so much.

    • @ronykuba
      @ronykuba  6 лет назад

      Akathe Squid the standard bolts are used, together with the spacers that come with each ring. Some chains don't work with X-SYNC rings. I use XX1 chains. The chain device is made by Aerocoach.

    You could go 1x11 permanently if u use a 3t cassette 9-32 and use a 40,42,44,46 tooth chainring

    • @ronykuba
      @ronykuba  6 лет назад +1

      Henri Bedford rings that small are not very efficient

    I have 6 bikes and no front derailleurs. My road bikes are set up as 50 chainring and 11-40 and the other is 44t and 11-36......never using them again

      Rune Larsen I don't. I use narrow-wide chain rings on all of them

    Great info to the public bro. Will you able set up the 1x system by using a mechanical rear mech without the clutch system too? This is for road race, and of course using with the 1x spec chainring.

    I had already seen the new (58) chainring on your TT bike on your Instagram, and now a sneak peek in the video. Are you joining to make a video about it? Or is it in the next vid about "how to choose chainring size"? Great vid again mate!!

    A great video as it also makes me more confident about the setup I’m going to put on the bike that I am building. Prior to this video I had been searching for a way to get a 10-32 cassette as I figured out it would be perfect for me, I came across the xd driver that you mentioned but really confused regards if it supports any modern wheel by changing the driver and then if a cassette like I mentioned could be fitted on it.. For my understanding so far it might only fit huge cassettes of 36 42 or above and I really would like to put it on a 32 for the small gaps.
    Also would you recommend getting a regular long cage rear derailleur over the clutch one? Could it be used with large cassettes without an extension?
    Thank you.

    what brand is the black single ring you have in the video? I'm finding it very hard to source a 53t

      It’s impossible to make a narrow wide chainring in an odd tooth count.

    I have a Sram 2x 10 drivetrain and I am planning to go 1x, however I couldn’t find anything on how to remove the paddle from the left hand side shifter and you are the first one to say that you’ve seen/ know how to remove it. Can you help me out with this or give any advice? Thanks

      Kristof Csik I have never done it myself, but you can find exploded views on sram.com, that should help.

    Excellent Video. having watched this before, I had to return to it as I am planning my N+1 bike build....waiting for the Madone Disc to come out later this year hopefully, and would like to make it a 1X, so will catch the next video. My current bike is a Emonda SL6, completely altered state..wheels, tires, bars, stems, everything but the groupset has been changed. Its a great bike and living in Vancouver , its perfect...tons of climbs here. Curious to see if I can build a Madone in the sub 15 lbs weight that can climb on a 1X. Any suggestions on building a deep carbon wheel set from ground up ? I am keen on Chris King or White Industries Hub. I am not sure if there are carbon wheel manufacturers that are proven that sell rims (with no brake track) on their own. Thanks and keep up great work.

    you missed the 1x piont with that chaincatcher. I ride mudy cx races and even singletrails plus cobbles on my road bike never lost the chain on any of them...

    What chainring bolts do you use? I have the same setup you have (Quarq Dzero + Sram 1x NarrowWide Chainring). Can you use the bolts that come with the Chainring? I have a clicking sound since i am using this setup and can not figure out where it comes from.

    Is that a little rubber hood on the valve to stop it from rattling? Can you buy a hood specifically for it? I'm getting quite tired of taping my valves and then they still rattle a little.

    How do you know when to exchange the chainring? I guess, that theres still the first chainring on my commuter, which would equal an age of around 20 to 25years. It has no rust or something yet, but i will get a new Chain and cassette anyway so i was wondering if i should get a new chainring too. I really want to keep the costs low and because it s 3X8 chain and cassette only cost me 23€. But such a chainring alone would cost me around 45 to 50€, because of that it s a fairly hard decision.
