Dear Jen, It's very honourable that you are going that deep into your response to that. I need to say that the first video was very clear on the fact that what counted was the time that you decided to take it seriously and committed to posting 3 times a week. I can feel that it affects you, and that you are maybe over explaining yourself, or excusing yourself for succeeding when your previous video was so joyful and happy and inspiring. Jen, thx a lot. It is tough. Tough tough tough to stay motivated. My channel is totally new. 11 videos, barely any subs or views. Struggling to stay motivated but hanging on in there, learning, watching others and trying to find my groove. But the truth is if you start from SCRATCH, from ZERO it is a much harder job to get seen, grow or monetise instead of reviving a previous channel.

This is so inspiring! I’m also in my 40s and re-started my channel and I love seeing other creators in my generation doing what they love and are passionate about. Thank you for sharing your journey.🫶🏼

As I started watching this, I didn't know where the story was going to go, but your explanation to the commenter started becoming relatable. Very recently, my friends have talked about doing this RUclips thing "for real," as in creating content with the goal of monetizing. Until now, I had never taken that seriously. A video of yours appeared on my recommended feed recently, along with a few other "RUclips over 40" videos and it's really making me think about it. I'm writing this under my artist channel. The channel was really just a place for me to upload my music in some kind of video form. My oldest video was published in 2006! Watching your video, it made me think about how long I've had this channel and how late in the game I take things a little more seriously. My subscriber count is currently 136 (over 18 years 😆). If I started my content creator journey and claimed I reached 1K in 30 days, I'd have a lot of 'splainin' to do. 😁

Great video Jen. As a RUclipsr over 40 myself I would have loved something like this when I was starting out back in 2020 but I never found anything at the time. As a result I did much the same sort of video as this one on my channel back in July this year with a focus on a similar "less is more" approach. The problem that I run into is that I have so much information and knowledge when it comes to spirituality and understanding. And when you’re trying to help someone transform their lives is not just one video but it’s a process. It’s almost like my videos have to be part one to part 50. Meaning everything goes together, is sort of like putting a link in the chain. So to keep everything from coming out at once, I have to strip my videos to keep it simple to stay on point. Because the natural thing for me to do is wanna go deeper. Understanding that it would be too much for a person to consume all at once. (Which is why I’ve written a book) so I struggle with making my content concise and to the point for that one video. Empowering people to understand what’s inside of them by giving a spiritual understanding to biblical scriptures is a hard task when you’re super religious.

What should one do when all of these "encouraging you to get on YT videos" starts to feel more like being peer pressured to post videos? Hi Jen, I am almost 40 and I recently joined on RUclips. I was asking myself if this was the right decision at this age. I am still a little in doubt :) I am keeping my channel a secret among the people that I know. I am a polymer clay jewelry artist, so I decided to go ahead with my idea and stop waiting. I have a few subscribers and I am waiting for some amazing things to happen here :) I am learning along the way, and have found my niche, so let's get better and better :) Greetings from Europe.

Very nice nice ypu are calm cool & collect. Im over forty and i got lost in time using new AND old media gear and software. Your intro is very nice you gave clarity and tips very well and that cooking spoon is the bomb ive never seen anyone use a cook spoon mic support system LOL. Also you are gorgeous 😊 i wonder how long you have been doing content like this. anyways im gojng to buy a gimble camera support system for my android phone for better shots in the future im not really a home studio kinda guy. Sooooo recognizable. The embarrassment is sky-high. I only film when my partner is away or on another floor. As a fellow ADHD'er, is need to script because my head goes faster then my mouth 😂 So I tend to stumble constantly. Funny thing is , when I teach....it's gone. Pfff I hope it gets easier.

That last step is the power of vulnerability and in most people it elicits a sense of empathy and a desire for the person to do well and get through it. Saying it out loud also psychologically calms you down because you are naming it. I am trying to be as authentic as I can, I do have adhd and the thought of trying to present myself as all together and styled is unsustainable for me so I have adopted the ‘if you like my message you’ll stay but if not then I’m not for you’ I don’t want a million followers just enough to make me feel like my message is getting out there. Biggest obstacle for me is saying ‘Errm’ a lot even when I am slowed down and thinking. I don’t think I have realised how much I must do this in my everyday speech, it was a shock. I have a great vocabulary and don’t feel nervous but it’s obviously a habit that has been there I haven’t noticed. That and touching my face and glasses along. I’m a hot mess 😂but loving the journey.
