True story, in 2021 I rolled into Ovando, MT riding the Divide about two weeks after the grizzly bear attack in town. Myself and two riders could feel the tension in the cafe' as we ate lunch. Ovando had been overrun with news media, forest service, sheriff's dept, for weeks. We sat quietly, said nothing, asked no questions. As we paid our bill and headed for the bikes, the manager of the cafe' finally smiled, and offered to give us ice water. We could feel her relief when she told us to have a good ride. Alexandera summed it up with be kind out there, be nice to everyone. Respect. The Divide is a gift, leave no trace except your good will and smiles. ☮
Wisdom from Alexandra. It takes a presence of mind to be friendly to people when you get into a town after hundreds of miles of death mud and headwinds, but it is important.
What a great interview/roundtable!!! So cool to hear from those who have been there and done it. Hannah, Alexandera, Josh and you too Neil....such a wealth of knowledge....thanks for sharing your insight!!!
thank you guys for the making this video it was very informative! I'm new to ultra endurance / bike packing stuff, I used to race aba/nba bmx racing and pro freestyle for DK, GT, Hoffman, Trend Bike, Terrible 1, for many years. after the loss of all of my family one year ago I fell into a huge depression, I stumbled onto your videos and enjoyed the heck out of them. that led me to find Ryan Van Duzer and then Mira and Jon's adventures on the trail. y'all have inspired me to go on the Denver to Durango trail here in Colorado. my dog and me are training and we are getting all of our gear together, Kiki and me may not have much but even we can afford to do this adventure on our shoe string budget. thank you ✌🤓 and it's really cool tracking the races sometimes the future is kinda neat dude.
I think this FKT thing needs to be put to bed. With reroutes and route changes there is never going to be a standard course and the weather and road conditions are different every year. I did it in 2012 and it was a great experience. Tailwinds to all riders, even the northbound ones!
Ryan Van Duzer is my boy to root for this year. The leaders will always be fast but people like Ryan give their all and enjoy every minute without torturing themselves. Go Ryan GO!!!!!!!!
Alexandra made the point of being a respectful, kind good person as a racer. That needs to be emphasized for all bikepackers and backcountry cyclists. Cause yeah it only takes one asshole to make a landowner or local pissed off at all cyclists and want to run them off the road. Cycling is a community and we all need to be kind.
Time for sleep deprived state!!! Not the riders but me, I get addicted to dot watching 😭 To anyone who actually turns up and starts, you've already won 🏆🎉☮️ 🦘
There's a certain kind of agony watching the dots, after being on the route several times and aching to be out there. TD guilt of sorts. It's an addiction, and abandon hope for a normal bike life after being on the TD.
Bikes and humans combined do lots of amazing things, like a 2 year old riding a strider around the block, to folks racing around the world, there seems to be endless opportunity and that’s something pretty special.

I'm so excited to see Ryan race, its going to be awesome.
He is cheating. He said he will be accepting outside assistance.

16:45 think josh rode to Bristol Bikefest, then raced the 12 hour. Seems like nothing now but i raced there's too and was very impressed with that
Really enjoyed hearing from all the athletes. Hope you do this again!
Thanks so much!

Totally agree with Alexandera's comments about being nice. Not just on the Tour Divide but on every cycle ride

As a Dutch will be routing for Laurens Ten Dam
Love this race, love the people, love the route. Can't wait to see how everyone does!
The big question is, how many are going to use Lachlan’s method of stopping for sleep. Should be interesting.
Joe Nation did that last year and had a really solid third place in the mens race...
@@kevincrowley9873yes from memory he was getting stronger catching up towards the end as the leaders floundered from exhaustion
Great interviews and video. Thanks!
This was fun. Love hearing the enthusiasm you all.have for others and the spreadsheet list Alex, awesome ❤

Really good video; thanks for all the insights.
I’m CHEERING on my bro, Jay “Bike King” Hefner! New rider, but about to burst on the scene in a HUGE way! Good luck to all riders!
Love. One time one of my friends rode that race. Was crazy to watch!
🤝
Great preview, excellent content Neil.
Thanks!!!
Meaghan Hackinen is Canada's best. Hope she gets the win!
So cool to see these four young bikepacking athletes together
Loved you had two women and them recommending good women competitors!
Great podcast. We live in Silver city and will be rooting as much as we can for everyone.😊💕
Justinas FTW!🎉
This is cool. Kinda like the Iditarod, but on bikes.
Very cool video and four great people!
So great!
Really enjoyed this!!! Thanks all!
Oh and thank you😊
So good, thanks for this!!
Staggering achievement, well done. You managed to make great content too! 🤷♂️🤘
Fuck yes! Bring it!
What are the average speeds on the ultra stuff? what’s the average amount of hours the leaders are pedaling per day.
Great 58 mins. how long will it take top notch riders to get towards the fire riddled parts of the race route? Also the wash out in Colorado?
My guess is 12 or so days. That wash out was just to show how the runoff is affecting things, but that is not on route.
I'm curious to know what helmet lamp mount Uba is using on his Kask. Can anyone help?

Nice...always love the updates! Is the link for the event missing above?
Good catch, thanks for letting me know, just added but here it is. bikepacking.com/tracker/2024-tour-divide-tracker/
Lachland morton is the king of devide by a lot
He rode the route the fastest, but due to a film crew his time is not officially recognized.
@@fangxx456True, but his ride puts a serious astrix on the "official record"
From colorado springs!!! Rooting for Ryan van duzer!! Ole! Ole! Ole!! Ole!! ..no whammy..no crashy!!
Who is the current record holder for the fastest finish time for the Tour Divide; that's to say the race starting in the the Grand Depart not an ITT?
The Mike Hall time I mentioned in the video.
