- I recently purchased a 2012 VW Touareg TDI. I had a really good deal on the car and I am still in love with it, however it comes with some problem. In thsi video I go over everything that is work with my VW Touareg TDI and how I plan to fix it.

I like your attitude. You identify the problems and you do not consider them deal-breakers but repairable. You have a very pragmatic approach to issues (and probably life). Kudos!
These are great videos... I particularly like that instead of complaining about the unexpected issues, you calmly
describe how you will repair them. It's educational and I am sure very helpful for those fellow Touareg TDI owners.
I have a 2013 with 129K on it.. runs perfect. Never had an issue. I follow all the maintenance perfectly and use all the best lubricants and fluids. A little more on the front end goes a long way reducing long-term expenses. I love mine and now upgrading to a second Porsche Cayenne.
Upgrading to a second Cayenne, my man u are good in life haha. My dad has a 2005 Touareg, its a money pit......
@@momchilmihalev705 Hey! I also have a 2014 Touareg and it runs like brand new. I did have a 2004 Touareg that was a money pit but upgraded and never had an issue. The '14 has 142K on it and most people guess its at least a 17 with 50K. I love Volkswagen products overall. I hope you are well!

Glad to see you haven't had too many problems. None of them are at all major either. Those Volkswagens are such underated cars.
Just watched this video. I was fighting with myself if I want to buy a pre-owned 2015 Touareg now. This video helped a lot to ease part of my concern towards this car. Touareg is a fantastic machine for sure!
It’s like a relationship. I find the same issues when I go out with a divorced or recently broken up man. I discover problems after I brought it home. Minor things I believe I could fix. I always wanted it and consider “how important is really?” Getting the headlight wipers to work is minor, I never had it with other VWs. We’ll see as the relationship progresses.

Hi, Thank you so much for your uploads. Am glad finally I found an owner of Touareg who educates us more on DIY. Well, I have a VW Touareg 2012 but FSI version. I haven't had any problems since I bought it except for the sunroof leak which I believe it the same problem you encountered. Am lucky because here in Dubai it doesn't rain although I noticed water in the trunk every time I come from car wash.
The dealership asked for a lot of money just to fix the issue and I decided to leave it that way for the time being after all Dubai is a desert - it usually rains 1 month in a year. I resort to covering the sunroof drainage with take whenever i take if for car wash which prevents water form leaking into the car. Am looking forward for your video on how to fix that.
I've read how people are ruling out ever buy this car but for me its a different experience. I have never had any issues with the car, it runs smoothly and its the best SUV I've ever had.

I had the same problem with my Touareg....pull the headliner down from the trunk one of the hoses would be disconnected, just put it back together and find a way to keep it connected. I used a clamp hose fitting and haven’t had a problem since!
These were amazing vehicles, diesel technology has so much potential even without the insane amount of emissions required. A 1.5L gas engine struggles to get 24MPG on newer cars so equipped emitting more “GHG” than the more powerful and efficient diesel equivalent. I personally don’t agree with the entire diesel scandal from the very small overage of emissions vs fuel actually used. The VAST majority of emissions stem from cargo ships / aircraft / commercial transportation NOT people’s VW diesels or any of the others we sadly canned

I have 2012 3 lt TDI with 225k on the clock. Serviced regularly and oil change every 7,5-8 k km. No issues whatsoever. Some consumables as expected, brakes, etc. otherwise, nothing. Great car.
Well thanks for the advertising, but I bought a V6 tdi 2011 and its great, absolutely great, one time I saw oil under the Touareg, but the problem was the dealer used plastic ring for sealed and they changed for a copper ring and that's all

I had a 2012 Touareg TDI and I had the leaking sunroof. It was caused by the drain hose in the sunroof getting clogged once and second time it was the drain hose popping off up on the roof drain sump. You need to partially remove the roof liner and pulling off the drain hose from the roof sump and blowing it out with low pressure air from an air compressor. Or make sure it just didn’t pop off the connection. Small seed leaves can clog the drain hose or insects can clog them as well. There are at least two but I believe there are 4 drain hoses, one in each corner.

I have a 2011 TDI . It has been very reliable. Only problem Air con fan went out at 200,000 km. Expensive to fix and long wait for the part. Apparently it is a common fault. Also my sunroof leaks in heavy rain. Can’t do much about it with an expensive repair.
I have a towel in the boot. Besides that it is smooth ,reliable, powerful and practical. And very economical.
With all those issues the car looks great that means that you are good and proud off your car .
The comments that you give are amazing good ,and helpfull for others .
I myself want to buy also a touareg ,but in the netherlands is diesel expensive to drive and i need it for towing my trailers .

What power lift gate. Open it manually and its faster that way.
Good video...but is not everything wrong! I had 2011 Touareg TDI with full moonroof still runs perfect on 116k.
Never had an issue..for me this is a Great Awesome SUV!
Did you check the fuse for the power lift gate

My Touareg in Australia does something, maybe related to your rough idle part, where when cold, sometimes, when I go to a stop, and start to drive again, I’ll put my foot down, and for about 1 second... no power, and then it takes off. It’s odd, but I have not done anything about it, it does not bother me, being I bought used. Still spent AU $33000 on it

I have owned a 2012 V6 for past four years with 90K miles. Except for routine maintenance and front headlight replacement it's been trouble free. But looking at some videos of Touaregs having expensive repair issues, I'm thinking it's just a matter of time before my luck runs out.
Looking to buy one of those 2011 diesel with lux package and 95K miles. Wonder what should I pay for it? One Im looking for has a clean title and one owner. Any suggestions on bargaining price?
Great car. Love that brown Color. It’s hard to find Color scheme like that here in Canada. I would gladly buy something like that with all those issues and fix them myself. Impossible to find a TDI here in Canada.
I have a P7 and it’s a great car minimum troubles that can be easily fixed by good service centres, I would buy another one
It's a lot of problems. How many miles are on this car? I have 2013 Touareg with almost 130k miles and none of the problems showed up (knock on the wood). The biggest issue I had was a coolant leak, it was small but a lot coolant was collecting inside the V below the intake manifold and one time when I had an emergency braking all of it spilled on the serpentine belt and it slipped and I lost power steering for a moment, it was scary. It was the only costly repair I had to deal with but now I won't have to worry about it for next 100k miles) and costly because it wasn't easy to find where the leak is coming from. so we replaced all possible tubes and seals.

Any issues? I'm looking at this it's one of the only SUVs I can fit in being super tall and they have seat extenders available for it. I would definitely get the executive TDI trim for that coveted Dynaudio audiophile system that all the ignorant Americans have never heard of... so they changed to the inferior Fender.
This thing is seriously expensive to buy now is it's so rare so I'm heavily doing my research. I almost definitely would get a CPO version.
That transmission cooler leak is know problem. It doesn't have screening to protect it.

I just want to know about the diesel engine . Does it use def fluid? Does it seem to be doing well? I have a diesel with no emissions control cause they didn't have them in 04. I know alot of.people with newer diesels that have problems with the emissions over time......that is my BIGGEST concern with a diesel vw
I've had FOUR VW's with large sunroofs and have NEVER had a leak on any of them.
I bought my Touareg Hybrid brand new, and it’s been the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. I still think it’s the best looking SUV on the road.

Has anyone checked the fuse for the power lift gate? Hardly anyone checks the simplest thing first anymore.
How much costs the fees for this touareg in US?insurance, road taxes, cityhall fees(if there is something like that i US)
Had 2012 Touareg, sold it back to VW. Your leaking sunroof is from a drain hose that came off a fitting. Had that happen
I just picked up a 2012 on Friday and made it 26 hours and got a check engine light. Mine had only sat for a month between buyback and fix. Cylinder 5 imbalance, so back to the dealer. I noticed some cold start surging as well before the light. Nice to have that warranty for sure because these things were prone to injector issues that had nothing to do with the cheating tunes. Now I get 4 years of worry free driving on a great used car that cost less than the lest expensive AWD new car you could buy with only a 3 year warranty.
Was that covered by the 48000 mile warranty

@@EricInTampaAcoustic Yes I bought it from a VW dealer that did the fix, so it says from the date of the first purchase although it only had been fixed a few weeks before that anyway.
@I'm Still Alive So far so good, about 1000 miles since repair and no other issues, 28 mpg in combined city/highway day to day use.

You are so lucky. I am looking for one in here in Canada but they are very hard to find. Especially 2013 and up.
I take mines to an Indy euro mechanic…..I don’t take it to the dealer for the exact reason on issue one. The dealer replaces all parts in the “system”, an independent mechanic diagnosis the specific problem as well, but will fix the specific issue vs the entire network.
The water leak on sunroof equipped Touareg is a common problem. The sunroof has drain lines that become clogged with debris (dirt, dust, pollen, leaves, etc). The fix is to clear the drain line so water that accumulates can exit through the drain as originally intended. There are YT videos out there showing how to do this.
In my case the hose disconnected from the sunroof gutter.

I'm not sure about the owner history but it sounds like maybe they did not maintain the vehicle the best.. had a 2012 ml350 and scheduled maintenance caught I leak in the transmission pan preventive maintenance probably saved me from expensive problem down the line good video

How much did it cost replacing the transmission piece. Did they have to disassemble much?

I have an 02 525i with the m54 straight 6. My car idles so well you almost think it's stalled after you start it. 350 000km +
Only issue I am running with (goodness) something is draining my battery. It does it once a week, once a day... or once a Month. It is frustrating but that is the only issue
Did you fix the idle issue? was it bad fuel?
Had the sunroof leak on a 2016 R line, water running down the inside pillars and soaking everything inside carpets and all. 3. Moths outside of warranty and dealer charged £4K to fix, with VW meeting half of it.

I'm pretty sure the US spec Touaregs don't come with headlight washers, just the caps.
You are correct! I removed one of the caps and there was nothing under it...

Nope. Best SUV I ever had. I fixed all these issues, just editing the videos - stayed tuned.

Nice car while in emissions warranty. At 80k miles, sensors and components go bad....egr cooler, glow plug, DEF filter, timing cover leaks oil. You must of bought it for cheap. Good luck
New HPFS at VWs expense, it's a recall, difficulty factor plague. I kinda don't care about the luxury features, I bought a lux to go off-road 🤣. This truck will go straight up an unpaved road and can tow a sad sad F150 backwards down the road with it's gas pedal to the floor. I was lucky to buy used where the former owner did many customizations, shout out.
Things fall off. I lost a piece of trim yesterday and a mirror today.

I have watched several of your videos, at first I was interested on your ability to fix cars. I later found out that you like buying the 2nd hand cars and found out problems u later. The bad part is, you keep on falling into the same hole again and again, what the final outcome of your used ford focus, the used cadellac? you may made up your mind and just buy a new corolla or civic or mazda 3 and forget about the car once for all.

my 2011 touaregTDI got water pump leak,transmission gasket oil leak,egr 3way pipe leak...all fixed

Why would you ever consider buying an 8 year old German vehicle ? The well know reputation of German vehicles is that they have increasing expensive repairs as they age. Their resale value is very low because they are problematic. These cars are good for the first 4 years - after that you will be faced with rising maintenance costs that will outstrip the value of the car. Sell it - take a loss if necessary - learn your lesson - and get on with your life.
Junk . get a m benz ml 350 cdi 2008 . way better !
