    I think it's worth mentioning that a Tribute Summon is a Normal Summon also. This was kind of hinted at in the video, but I think it wasn't clarified enough.

    I honestly think if I was teaching a class on playing yugioh, I would use ancient gears for a base example set, as it involves both normal, tribute and fusion summons. Following this I would probably introduce the other three mechanics in this order: XYZ, Synchro, and then Pendulum

    • @TrueCyprien
      @TrueCyprien 8 лет назад

      I'd say the Round Table version of Noble Knights would also be a good archetype to learn YGO. They have Normal, Single Tribute, regular Special Summons, Xyz and Synchro. Additionally they have a Fieldspell, relevant Equips and are pretty straight forward to play (albeit not as straight forward as ancient gears).
      Also your class would never learn about the ritual summon. °J°

      Any monster you normal set remains in that position for the duration of the turn other than by your opponent engaging that card by battle or by card Effect. When your opponent engages your monster face down and attacks your monster it is flipped into face up defense position.

      If you have a level 8 on the field and you are trying to summon great maju garzett to summon this monster requires one tribute. This monster will allow you to use its effect to Tribute one monster on the field to summon him. You can also use level 8 or higher monsters to summon other monsters but when it comes to Tribute summoning monsters in effects other than by card Effect or the official rulebook stance on tribute summoning. You must perform the original summon first other than by card Effect.

    • @robertivanellemarable1198
      @robertivanellemarable1198 4 года назад

      If you have a level 8 on the field and you are trying to summon in level six or level 5 monster from your hand you only need one monster to perform this summon. You can only perform tribute summoning once per turn. Tribute summoning also counts as your normal summon other than by card Effect which allows you to summon more than once buy a normal summon like the spell card Double Summon.

  • @mislavkukina2026

    Why cant you normal summon monster in def position? They are all doing it in anime. And how are you suppost to have monster in def mode if you cant summon it in def mode?

    • @robertivanellemarable1198
      @robertivanellemarable1198 4 года назад

      You can set level 4 or lower monsters in face down defense position Any monster you summon unless you are setting it must be summoned in face up attack position. You can only normal summon tribute summon or tribute sad once per turn You can switch your attack position monster into defense position only on your turn or by card Effect which will allow you to switch positions. Monsters special summoned from the extra Deck can be special summoned in defense position and then changed to attack position on your next turn other than by card Effect. Any monster tribute set or normal set face down must remain in that position for the duration of the turn other than buy battle or by card Effect.

    • @MGPKStudios
      @MGPKStudios 8 лет назад

      For those wondering what I mean, when you perform a tribute summon using a pendulum monster that pendulum monster will go to the extra deck except otherwise stated by an effect.

    • @Cimoooooooo
      @Cimoooooooo  8 лет назад +1

      I'll be explaining that when I get to Pendulum Monsters. We're starting small, lol.

    • @Cimoooooooo
      @Cimoooooooo  8 лет назад +3

      Also why I said "unless otherwise specified," a caveat for things like Macro being active, or using Pendulum Monsters as tributes.

    • @MGPKStudios
      @MGPKStudios 8 лет назад

      Yes, yet pendulum monsters are some of the most hardest to understand for newer players (In my own opinion) due to the extra deck stuff that occurs with it. I even know people who have been using pendulums for nearly a year or so and didn't even know how fusion summoning with them worked or how tribute summoning with them worked. Mostly what I'm trying to convey is that pendulums can be very confusing at first with newer players and even older players.

    • @MGPKStudios
      @MGPKStudios 8 лет назад

      Also I am sorry if I seem a little critical I just hope to bring an end to players new and old having problems with pendulum's tricky ways. I do enjoy these videos and hope they help a lot of people new and old to the game and wish you luck with these videos.

    Question on tribute summon? If I have a level 8 normal monitor in hand, I have another level 8 monitor on the field. Can I use one level 8 monitor as tribute to summon another level 8 from my hand? Or tributed monitors' levels are not matter, I would still need 2 monitors?

    • @robertivanellemarable1198
      @robertivanellemarable1198 4 года назад

      If you have a level 7 or higher monster on your field and you are trying to Tribute summon a level 7 or higher monster from your hand you must have two monsters on your field to perform the tribute summon as required in the rule book other than by card Effect. For example if you have advance Force on the field face up and you have a level 7 or higher monster on the field and you are trying to tribute a level 7 or higher monster from your hand this card will allow you 2 tribute that monster on the field as 1 tribute to perform a tribute summon. Any monster level 10 or higher requires Three Monsters on the field as tributes or otherwise stated by the card effects. You can only tribute summon once per turn other than by card Effect rather face up or face down.

      You can tribute monsters from your hand or field but only if by card Effect. For example if you have a card that requires you to Tribute monsters from your hand or field you can perform that summon. You must tribute monsters or tokens from your field or your opponents field by card Effect to perform a tribute summon.

    • @robertivanellemarable1198
      @robertivanellemarable1198 4 года назад

      Yes you can tribute a set monster. Remember the level of stars and the requirement to summon such monsters. Other than by card Effect you can only normal or tribute summon once per turn. Tribute summoning is counted as a normal summon stated in the rulebook. You cannot tribute set and normal summon in the same turn other than by card Effect. If you tribute set a monster on one turn unless your opponent engages that card buy battle or by card Effect you cannot flip up that card until your next turn.

  • @carlosbarrera4980

    How can you tell if your opponent set a monster the correct way if it is face down?
    Like if I want to set my level 6 monster I will have to tribute one monster. But what if my opponent doesn’t believe it was an actual level 6 monster that required one monster tribute.
    Would I have to reveal it to them?

    • @robertivanellemarable1198
      @robertivanellemarable1198 4 года назад

      A real respectful opponent will not cheat you. Level five and six requires 1 tribute other than specified on the card. You can only tribute summon once per turn other than by card Effect like Double Summon or advance Force. As long as you fulfill the summoning requirements your opponent cannot look at your face down cards unless they engage it or they call in a ref to verify the play is legit.

  • @gamingminds7093
    @gamingminds7093 3 года назад

    For the longest time i though you need to offer 3 tributes for level 9-10, 4 tributes for 11-12. Always wondered why the egyptian gods only needed 3 tributes but now it makes sense.
    If anything I still think they gods should have a higher level (12?) And they should require 5 tributes.
    Maybe have the tribute system start at level 3 and work up from there?

    • @buffthepuff5299
      @buffthepuff5299 3 года назад

      3 tributes is rly balanced because if they can get rid of that one card u lose all the investments you put into it. Card like trap hole make it very risking potential to tribute summon some it feels nice the way it Is.

  • @ovidiudante
    @ovidiudante 6 лет назад

    Do you have to tribute monsters of the same type as the one you summon?

    • @robertivanellemarable1198
      @robertivanellemarable1198 4 года назад

      No. Other than by card Effect it only takes one Monster to summon a level 5 or 6. It takes two monsters to perform level 7 through 9 and or by card Effect. Level 10 or higher requires Three Monsters and or by card Effect which allows you to summon this monster by using alternative monsters you control or in your hand and or graveyard or deck as material. Cards like double Evolution pill red eyes Fusion and or super polymerization will allow you to use monsters other than its original summoning requirement to perform the summoning. Most of the time other than by card Effect when performing Summons of this magnitude are also considered special summons other than stated by the card. When performing a fusion or ritual you must complete the summoning requirement listed on the card or other means by card Effect such as the ones listed in this answer. I hope this answers your question.

    • @robertivanellemarable1198

      Yes. He will gain the effect due to the card Effect. Torrential tribute destroys the monster summon it does not prevent you from retrieving a monster or bringing back a monster from the graveyard or banished Zone. Cars like solemn judgement will prevent its effect from going off entirely. It is wise to negate a monster effect first before you destroy the monster.

    If the monster that is used to tribute is set to the graveyard can you summon it back form the graveyard

    • @robertivanellemarable1198
      @robertivanellemarable1198 4 года назад

      If you tribute summon a monster on your turn and your opponent destroys that monster other than by card Effect you will not be able to retrieve that card until your next turn from your graveyard. Cards like monster Reborn call of the haunted and odd eyes advance dragon. Most normal spell and trap cards that allow you to special summon monsters from the graveyard must be said one whole turn before you can activate it unless by card Effect. For example if you set call of the haunted and your opponent destroys that card you cannot chain that card to retrieve a monster out of the graveyard. If your tribute monster is destroyed and you have Monster reborn set on the field you can activate that card to retrieve a monster from the graveyard or wait till your turn and activate monster reborn from your hand.

      So supposely defense exists so that if a monster in defense battles against an opponent's attacking monster, 3 results happen:
      1) The opponent's monster with higher attack beats over the defense position monster, and the player takes no damage from that battle.
      2) the attack and defense tie. No monster is destroyed.
      3) If a monster attacks a defense position monster with higher defense, the player with the attacking monster loses life points equal to the difference. Both monsters don't get destroyed by battle.
      Side note: There are monsters in the game that gain effects while being in defense. Some cards have effects that switch monster positions.
      Hope this helps.

      Gabbie Ski You can normal summon in either main phase as long as it's once per turn. You can special summon monsters in either main phase, and there's no limit to the number of monsters per turn that can be special summoned. So yes, you can normal summon in MP2 then special summon.

    Ehther the Heavnly Monarch, and Erebus the Underworld Monarch are 8 star levels on their cards it says "You can tribute summon this card by tribtuing 1 tribute summoned monster. which i find strange but that's how they decided to make them i know ive seen other high level cards that only need 1 tribute its just the rulebook isn't correct when it says 7+ levels is 2 tributes. makes it hard to understand whats wrong and whats right.

      Other than by card Effect you must perform the original summoning requirement to summon the monster. Monarchs allow you to Tribute summon their higher counterparts by using one monster. That is the card summoning requirement. All other Tribute Summons must be executed by normal summoning requirements stated in the rule book. A card like advance Force will allow you to Tribute a level 5 or higher monster for a level 7 or higher monster. You can only perform this once per turn.

    • @mickylalambert5425

      Joseph James if a facedown defense mode monster is attacked it depends: 1) if it has a lower defence than of the attack of the attacking monster =it is destroyed
      2) if it has a higher defence it then remains on the field, but just in face up defense position (this doesnt count as a flip summon, it has only been flipped)

    So you can't tribute summon more than 1 monsters even if you have, say, 4 monsters on the field, because it still counts as a normal summon. And you can only normal summon face-up attack position or set face-down defense position. But hold on. Didn't characters summon monsters in face-up defense position in the first anime? Have the rules changed since then? Because I know that characters haven't done that in later series.

    Could anyone awnser this?
    Ok here's a big question where me and my friend are stuck with when tribute summoning (we understand the star system, that's no problem).
    BUT, when you want to tribute summon a lvl 6 monster (or higher), is it required to have the monster you want to tribute allready have it on the field for 1 turn? Or can you tribute it directly from your hand to the graveyard and then tribute-summon?
    Because if you have lvl 6 monster in your hand you want to summon and have a lvl 4 monster also in your hand. Can you tribute that lvl 4? Or does THAT lvl 4 monster need to be on the field for atleast 1 turn, to able to tribute it?
    I know it's maybe hard to understand what i just asked, but i'm foreign so please excuse me for that but i can't find any infomartion on this.

      You can only tribute summon once per turn other than by card Effect. If you have a level 6 and level 4 monster in your hand and you are trying to perform a tribute summon you must tribute a level 4 or lower monster to upgrade. The level 4 or lower monster must be on the field first or other instructed by card Effect to Tribute it from your hand to perform the next summon. Other than by card effects you can only tribute summon one monster per turn face up or face down. Perform a level 5 or higher you must tribute 1 level 4 or lower monster on the field or other by card Effect for example Paladin of white dragon. Level 7 or higher requires two tributes monsters on the field or by card Effect that allows you to Tribute monsters from your hand. You can only perform a normal summon more than once by card Effect and only by card Effect.

      Normally to summon a card of this magnitude requires Three Monsters. For these particular cards they do require Three Monsters. Other than by card Effect you must complete the original summoning requirement to summon that monster. Any monster level 10 or higher requires Three Monsters to Tribute summon other than by card Effect.

      This might be late but:
      You can unless the card itself says it can't (cards that say "you cannot tribute this card). Lets say I special summoned Junk Forward from my hand by fulfilling its "if you control no monsters" requirement of its effect.
      I can then tribute it to tribute summon a lv 5 or 6.
      Alternatively you can tribute junk foward played to fulfill a ritual spell cost.

    • @ghostsisterspookydogwood4360
      @ghostsisterspookydogwood4360 3 года назад

      Depends. Lets say you have 6 monsters out (max due to extra minster zone) and you want to link summon apollousa (link 4 that needs 2+ monsters with different names). Then you can proceed to use 4 of those monsters on field to make her. This works with extra deck monsters that use monsters on field as material because you are making space.
      Now same 6 monster field but I want to normal summon. You can't because there's no available monster zone. Same with me using a fusion spell to summon a fusion monster. The fusion spell will require you to use at least 1 monster on field as material because you need the space.
      Lets say you're tribute summoning for a level 5. You can tribute 1 monster to fulfill the cost of that tribute summon since its clearing space.
      Hope this helps.
