tbf the best turn 1s should not take 10+ minutes to execute as dumb as it might be sometimes. The simplest, consistent, and card econ efficient combo to bring out your strongest board should always be turn 1, and you're going to have neither of those things when your turn 1 takes half your deck and knowing every possible hand to do. I miss the 5Ds era of Yu-Gi-Oh, back then we still didn't have nearly as crazy OTK going on. It took strategy and we had more flexibility in deck styles. Hell, Kalin from the Dark Signers had that monster of a no hand deck and Akiza made a beast out of plant monsters in her deck. She brought back plant type monsters and made them a viable threat for ANY Yu-Gi-Oh player. Then there is the obvious Blackwing's who swarm the field that has to be mentioned because if I don't someone else will and question why did I not mention the ONE reason Crow was made to fight Goodwin alongside Yusei and Jack, instead of Akiza. Did you know originally Crow was supposed to become a Dark Signer? It shocked me honestly. But when his deck's popularity became obvious, they changed the script and put Crow on third of the big three heroes of 5Ds instead of Akiza with Yusei and Jack as the most powerful members of their team. Shame, Akiza had so much potential to make female duelists being strong a thing and they ruined it by letting her fade into a support duelist. They could have expanded her story to finding other members who was once part of the Arcadia movement and stop them from causing harm or helping young psychic duelists like herself. I would LOVE to have seen how Akiza handled such events and how her friends would try to help her. But enough of my gripe on what happened, back to the decks. Yusei's is an obvious thing to address. His use of low level monsters and synchros was a nice change up from everyone wanting to be bigger and badder than everyone else. Jack's was a pretty good overpower the enemy with brute force type of deck, while Luna with some customizing could make a scary burn deck with Bad Reaction to Simochi, I believe that is how the trap card's name is spelled... Leo on the other hand was pretty handy with his morphtronics and his Powertool Dragon, eventually getting Life Stream Dragon I don't know too well yet sadly.

IPaINiC your english is great bro. But i liked the synchro because it was cool and did the inevitable, which was adding levels together to get a new monster regardless of what monsters you used, Whereas fusion was combining monsters regardless of levels to get a new monster. XYZ Summon was fine because it added a new aspect to the game with monsters having “ranks” instead of levels, opening the field for a new range of rules regarding ranks and levels. Also added the aspect of using the materials used to summon the monster as a means to using its effect. Meaning even though these monsters are strong, once it runs out of “materials” its nothing but an attack beater. Synchro and XYZ were simple, easy to understand, cool, and fun. Pendulums and links lack all of the above haha
The Xyz era was fine for me, especially early on (remember when Zenmaines was semi-broken? lol) But it went downhill fast, and really fast when Pendulums started popping up.

Thank you! That is exactly what I was thinking, the way I would have done the skit is, the guy just keeps summoning monsters,, after a while you see a SpongeBob time card that says "20 minutes later" then, the guy that was summoning monsters is telling the other guy to wake up because it's his turn, not that it matters because he was already practically OTK'd.
tbf the best turn 1s should not take 10+ minutes to execute as dumb as it might be sometimes. The simplest, consistent, and card econ efficient combo to bring out your strongest board should always be turn 1, and you're going to have neither of those things when your turn 1 takes half your deck and knowing every possible hand to do. At most an ideal turn 1 should take at most a minute or two if both players know whats happening.

So not to sound like an idiot but about a year ago I decided to dust off one of my old decks and go to a yu-gi-oh tournament locally. Upon going into my first match I realized most of my cards were either banned or unusable then proceeded to have a scenario like this happen to me after my first turn. I pretty much went to the counter, dropped out and said "thanks but no thanks"

I was big into Yu-Gi-Oh back when Marauder Lock was a thing and duals almost always took a while . I came back last year and everybody's deck was one or 2 turn kills. Wtf
I played since the official TCG came out in The US back when I was in high school when duels could last up to 30 minutes sometimes. But now duels last maybe 2 minutes if you lucky that they have a bad hand rofl....
Nah, duels last long these days, because the whole duel is the opponent's first turn
@@minimalistgamer1255 You watch them try to build their board first turn and if you hand trap them with a negation they just scoop and go to game 2 lmao Its boring as fuck watching people play now compared to 2003-2017 before pendulums and links.
@Magic Effects eh, synchro and xyz was actually a nice breathe of fresh air (synchro actually required tuners, and incentivized playing weaker cards to build up to a big boss, xyz had limited uses so you can't abuse a boss monster forever). Then pendulum came out and you get to summon all cards in your hand if you get the correct scales. Let's not even talk about link...
@@VuNguyen-ql4vl i'm actually seeing yu gi oh! arc-v for the first time now and i noticed that it was this anime (or to be precise, this generation of cards) that introduced a lot of fucking retarded decks and cards that i really hate to play today and is clear that was from this point that the game lost a bit of his track, cause like you said, synchro was very nice and xyz was ok, it was when pendulum arrived that things got a little fucked up, and the problem wasn't really just the pendulums
From what I've seen and heard, the general consensus is that everything after XYZ monsters is degenerate and made the game worse. I agree.
Patrick Bateman precisely, with XYZ you could still play strategic and I used to only play Synchros and below, I never got into XYZ but I don’t mind them at all because I could still strategize to beat my opponents using them. After XYZ it’s all repeat cards, effects to summon your whole deck and 2-3 turns your done.
Oh and I’ve heard players forfeit on the first turn if they don’t have the hand they need to win. Like where the fun in that? Lmao, if you can’t win in more than 3 turns then you should never play a strategy game. Because Yugioh used to be exactly that. A strategy game that sometimes would take an hour.
I think the longest duke I ever watched was when I was in 4th or 5th grade and that’s when GX came out. I saw this kid with a cyber dragon deck, and one kid who had built he’s deck with cards he loved and Jesus was it long. The kid that didn’t have a specific list deck was legit giving the other Kid a run for he’s money. Like they would be countering strategies and shit. I swear that duel was amazing and their was whole crowd watching.
Now it’s just fast and quickly because the kids playing today can take that long and don’t know how to think or strategize. To much pressure on their brains.

I can’t get over the fact that newer cards literally have a paragraph of text on them
I know, and I thought some of the cards from the OG yugioh already had enough text like relinquished
Then: *draws a card and plays* „your turn“
Now: *draws a card* „wanna play another match?“
Thats really sums it up nicely....
Sad that yugioh turned into such a unnessary mess... I loved it
Same
Yep, thats the reason i quit. Used to LOVE yugioh but then it got so complicated and they kept adding new mechanics. Like come on, the game was perfectly fine and fun but now you gotta wait 15 minutes as your opponent summons their entire deck all while you have not a single idea whats going on.
It's still nice to collect them
I miss the 5Ds era of Yu-Gi-Oh, back then we still didn't have nearly as crazy OTK going on.
I think they tried to be MtG with their deep mechanic, but it just feel so damn weird, since there's no balance like MtG
Old school Yu-Gi-Oh was much better.

In my opinion synchro was The beginning of the end.
The number monsters look pretty nice, but its the same as the synchro monsters
Sry for my bad english. :)
