Remember when Lajin, Man Eater Bug, Trap Master, 4star lady bug were actually feared for being powerful and normal monsters were the main stars and effect monsters were game changers? Those were the days.
Remember when a 2000 defense monster could brick your opponent for a few turns? Lol I love how simple things were an not many monsters had effects and the ones that did weren't insanely overpowered like the crap we have these days, this video is the definition of dueling
The nostalgia nearly brought tears to my eyes. Oh to be 10 years old again opening my Yu-Gi-Oh starter decks and bringing them to school to play at recess. Great video guys, I no longer play the game but your videos are always entertaining and you all have great charisma on camera.

Trying to show my daughter how cool yugioh used to be and all the videos I found were horrible. This video not only took me wayyyyy back but was so in detail and informative. Greatly edited and we were glued to the tv. Very intense battle and I couldn’t stop mentioning how amazing this video was.
Thank you guys so much for doing these videos and verbally explaining the cards effects, etc. This is helping me learn the game better than anything else out there. Much love fellas.
This feels so chill compared to today's game. I feel like everything just keeps getting more OP and with each generation and it's getting to the point where the games unplayable. Seriously so many new players are going to get discouraged with how BS some of the cards and decks are now.
Do you know magical scientist? Either you have like 2 generations of Yugioh or the state of today. Today is much better compared to either have no game at all (what would have happen if this cards were the only ones since the years) or the really op cards in the early games.
so you're saying pot of greed, delinquent duo, cyber jar, imperial order, that grass looks greener, return from the different dimension, and graceful charity (OG yugioh cards mind you) are balanced? your comment is a joke
I always never understood why people make that argument. Of course it makes sense that cars become op over time if you're looking at like some of the most powerful Staples now versus the most powerful Staples then there's definitely going to be a huge deviation. Or even just Dex in general. If you look at it from set to set because it's a slow power creep but if you compare it now until then of course it's going to be a huge difference because they want a car to be better okay they give it more powerful effect and then the next time they release a card similar to it it's more powerful because they want to make you buy the new stuff of course power creep is going to become a thing
@@lethalButters bro in the original Bandai OCG duel monsters (not yugioh) you can literally summon Dark Magician, Summoned Skull, and Blue-Eyes without tributing. That's where the anime got its rules. Also if you destroyed a monster with you monster but it's DEF was lower than the destroyed monster's attack, your monster dies too. Also, dragon capture jar was a monster card at one point.

Had Yugi's starter deck way back when, fav card was actually Neo the Magic Swordsman, to this day is the card I imagine myself as the most. Also 25:10 Soul exchange should have skipped your battle phase for the turn.
To bad it would be too complicated to make a video where they have a duel like bakura in yami yugi during duelist kingdom where everyone played their favorite card
@@TechMeister-1993 Yeah, I'd bet if they had Corridor's help they could pull it off. An anime series with a similar concept would be pretty awesome too!
Googling ultimate offering, I think it can only be used by the owner, either on their main phase or opponents battle phase. 7:51 Yugi just acted like the trap was his and used it on the owners battle phase which isn’t how the card even works 😂 Playing with these old cards back then was fun also because we always had our own interpretations of how the card effects actually worked even if they weren’t correct/legal.
The original printing said: "At the cost of 500 Life Points per monster, a player is allowed an extra Normal Summon or Set." The rulings on it were all over the place, but it was interpreted back then that either player could use the effect of Ultimate Offering.
I really enjoy your content of older cards. I haven’t kept current with Yu-Gi-Oh metas, but this content is super nostalgic for me. Keep up the good work guys.
I remember when those came out, we were hyped. My dad picked Yugi, my sister Kaiba, I picked Pegasus. Oddly enough, mine was not as bad as you'd expect. The toons were good, so long as nobody had Dispell to destroy Toon World, but Relinquished was a beast. Take that Blue Eyes, or Dark Magician and they were fucked. Unless they of course happened to have Dark Hole. Edit: And lightly modifying the starter decks immediately ruined the Toons lol.
11:26 When your opponent played Ancient Telescope you reversed the order of your own cards when you drew them one at a time onto the table, and then your opponent put them back in the exact same reversed order. This could have been a large enough impact on the duel to change the outcome. I think a rematch of 2 out of 3 is warranted on this mistake alone. Also because these were great to watch and I'd love to see the rematch. 😆
Also think Ultimate Offering was used wrong. Most cards don't have effects both players can utilize beyond field spells. The text of Ultimate Offering states "You can pay 500 life points." You being the owner of the card as it doesn't state either player may use this effect.
@@Will_Forge no he's still right. it says during your main phase or the "opponent's" battle phase, he can use it. the other player shouldn't be able to.
I haven't watch anything yugioh related in forever! I gotta say this was super entertaining! Makes me wqnt to play the game again but with these decks. Thanks you guys!
Just now watching it and wow did it bring back memories of how old duels used to work. I stopped playing seriously around 5D, and have completely lost touch with the new dueling meta. But man this brought a tear to my eye. Such classic cards and starter decks and a great duel
SDK was my first Yugioh deck, too. Always loved the Blue-Eyes more than Dark Magician, but my favorite was always the Pegasus Starter Deck; Relinquished is one of my favorite cards of all time, design wise, and it was pretty strong back in the day.
I played a Relinquished/Crab Turtle ritual deck back in the earliest days. Its funny how similar the 2 monsters look too -thats kinda why i chose to play it. And the 2550 Crab Turtle could take out the DM, Summoned Skull, Red-Eyes, and many other boss monsters. throw in some Nimble momongas, Bad reaction to simochi, Dian ketos, and things... I was a mad lad.
I do remenber getting these 4 packs aswell as a kid back in 2002, me and my brother. I still have then, actually. That was the first time when my Yu-Gi-Oh! life has begun. Good old memories.

Honestly miss duels like theses with my friends The long games but more due to weaker cards It’s really refreshing to have such simple duels with not having to squint my eyes trying to read an effect that I’m probably not gonna understand Fantastic video ! Love to see Joey fight Kaiba next !
I have not played Yugioh in years but I still love watching y'all play it. Is that really how Ultimate Offering works? You can use it to normal summon on your enemy's turn? I never knew that.
No. The card specifically says "you". Perhaps it's... anime rules? But then they'd be able to normal summon more than once so idk. I think they both had a brain fart. Edit: lol idk what's going on, dude just tribute summoned during battle phase
damn these old decks are actually producing some very very entertaining and nostalgic duels. i am over here laughing my arse off, great channel guyss.. i would open the deck if i had it in front of me.. probaaablyyy, maybeee lol
I thought the same but then after doing some research, i found out that at that time both players were able to use it, just as Royal oppression for some reason.
@@marvinmusk543 ultimate offering: During your Main Phase or your opponent's Battle Phase: You can pay 500 Life Points; immediately after this effect resolves, Normal Summon/Set 1 monster. nothing about your opponement can use it. royal oppression : Either player can pay 800 Life Points to negate the Special Summon of a monster(s), and/or an effect that Special Summons a monster(s), and destroy those cards. either player so your opponement can. edit my bad, the starter deck had an errata on this card so with this text, both of player can use it your right
The SDK one actually states: A player (i.e. any player kinda) is allowed an extra summon at the cost of 500 LP. So I guess interpretation is key, especially in that era! However, I can't find any version of the Soul Exchange card that allows the user to conduct their battle phase...
I love how knowledgeable of the game and respectful you two are the whole time. I lost interest playing Yu-GI-Oh years ago cause every turn would just be an argument of the rules. It’s no fun playing a game when you have to debate what should be black and white rules every step of the way. Love the content!

@@ericbreese3071 what do you mean? To trigger? He destroyed it by battle by force. What I think they did wrong was resolving it during the battle phase, when it's a spell effect.
I love how in simpler yugioh all these crazy plays are more of an exception than a default so they feel more surprising and fun and your decks are simple enough that you just focus on your opponents surprising plays rather than constantly calculating all the things your deck can respond with
Yup, had Yugi’s around 2002 or 2003 and thought it was the coolest thing ever to basically have his Duelist Kingdom deck. I remember thinking Kaiba’s should have 3 blue eyes white dragons, but it only had one. I also remember some of Joey’s had the Red eyes as the card in the window and some had the time wizard. If I knew how rare and expensive each one would eventually get, I’d have bought several and held onto them!
When you’ve played Duel Links for so long that you forget there are five spaces for monsters and spells/traps. Love seeing these decks again. I of course picked the Yugi Starter Deck back in the day. Dark Magician was my favorite monster and still is.
I know that it is a freiendly duel, but I believe that Ultimate Offering was used incorrectly. Only the person that controls it can utilize its effect and not the opponent. Would have likely changed the outcome of the first duel.
if they playing with an original star deck kiba one it says At the cost of 500 Life Points per monster, a player is allowed an extra Normal Summon or Set this was obviously errata but they prolly just playing with what that version says so in a way not really a misplay in this format only also fun fact UO has been Errata 4 times good lord
Yeah that’s why it was important to play the gba video games back then like world wide edition and eternal duelist souls because it showed you have to play the cards the right way. The writing on the cards are confusing and misleading
Even though the decks are simple by mechanics, it is still way more enjoyable to see this stage of Yu-Gi-Oh than the current.

This is so incredibly satisfying. I haven't played for so many years, seeing this classic match up was awesome. I'm sorry you had to crack open those decks but I think it was worth it!
Remember when Lajin, Man Eater Bug, Trap Master, 4star lady bug were actually feared for being powerful and normal monsters were the main stars and effect monsters were game changers? Those were the days.
Sound like old man.
@@Newworld-gk6us many yugioh players still love old school, there is nothing wrong with this...
Remember when a 2000 defense monster could brick your opponent for a few turns? Lol I love how simple things were an not many monsters had effects and the ones that did weren't insanely overpowered like the crap we have these days, this video is the definition of dueling
@@Newworld-gk6usYou sound like a try hard edgelord.
Build a cube and make it so with like minded players.
Man, I miss this non-competitive Yugioh. Kitchen table play was inconsistent, slow, and swingy as hell but that's what made it great.
The nostalgia nearly brought tears to my eyes. Oh to be 10 years old again opening my Yu-Gi-Oh starter decks and bringing them to school to play at recess. Great video guys, I no longer play the game but your videos are always entertaining and you all have great charisma on camera.
reminds me when my brother and I got two starter decks and dueled all night.
The yugi deck was my very first set of cards! I came back to playing after 10 years and built a new DM based deck and the pace is so insanely fast compared to how it used to be. Thanks for a trip down nostalgia lane! haha.
You're having so much fun . It's almost like an actual YGO episode. Keep it up
Now THIS is REAL Yu-Gi-Oh! The nostalgia from watching this video is amazing! It really takes me back to the good ol days!
My favorite part, Paul activates and announces he's playing Ookazi, and he has to stop himself from saying "SpellCard," and say "Magic Card." Great show guys, can't wait to see the next duel(s.)
Wow... I didn't realize Kaiba essentially has a trap that allows him to "screw the rules" for 500 life points per summon
Jaja lol good one
yeah the fun thing about oldschool Yugioh is that 95% of cards were total garbage but the remaining 5% are hilariously broken plot armor cards from the anime which have only become more broken in today's game and are all banned
That card is super strong as back then their just wasn't that many ways to special summon a monster.
I believe one mistake was made, however, with a summon during a player’s battle phase instead of their main phase or their opponent’s battle phase.
In hindsight the dark magician starter was better. Everyone wanted the blue eyes back then though. 🤣
Then i must have been terrible because i could never beat my cousins kaiba deck with my yugi deck. Those were the days
Not me. I was Red-Eyes all the way.
Yeah yugi got all the meta removal for the time.
Only because Yugi starter deck had Summoned Skull
@@chrisshorten4406 I took all the high def and tribute and trap cards and made a deck lol
I'd love to see ALL combinations of these 4 decks against eachother
Like the 4-way battle Royale from Battle City
Me too
This feels so chill compared to today's game.
Yeah, I swapped to MTG shortly after XYZ's came into the game, I can't imagine trying to learn the current state of yugioh, its gotten nutty.
so you're saying pot of greed, delinquent duo, cyber jar, imperial order, that grass looks greener, return from the different dimension, and graceful charity (OG yugioh cards mind you) are balanced? your comment is a joke
Since the decks sealed are priced so ridiculously high what I have been doing is purchase the loose singles and reconstructing the decks just waiting for all the cards to come for me and my friends to play. I haven't told them so it'll be a surprise. We're mtg players but this is the game that started it all 😊
Real ones know you merged the best of the decks together back in the day
Please continue with this, the nostalgia hit so hard right now
This takes me right back to being in primary school and playing these exact sort of duels as a kid. This was so fun to watch! And I loved how neck and neck each match was. I genuinely had no idea who would win each round.
I can't wait to see you guys play with the others. This is the content I subscribed for. I'm glad to see ya'll returning to these dueling videos again. They're my favorites
This is the good old Yu-Gi-Oh i remember way better than the stuff we have nowadays :( i miss those days, awesome video guys keep it up
As a beginner, this video really helped me. It's the first time I understood the whole match.
Thanks for saying your moves, turn and slowly playing
You guys are honestly the best. Also I can imagine these decks sent your bank account to the shadow realm.

They are about $100-115 a piece

11:38 actually those cards were not returned in the right order since they were dealt from top to bottom Beaver Warrior should be the top card again but by putting them on top of the deck it will actually be castle walls.
I noticed that too. The first was the 5th by the way it stacked up lol.
Yea good point, failed battle
Ah, I should have scrolled further into the comments before saying the same.
I thought the same immediately lol
dude this is the MOST nostalgic thing ever and has earned my like 100% keep up the great work!!! it pains me to see these cards being used like this but its still a wonderful thing!! i call this the hundreds of dollars duel lol
You can see that every friendship is really put to the test during a duel!! That’s the heart of the cards!!
That is the kind of duels I really miss. I know those sealed starter decks are crazy expensive but this was a great trip down memory lane
This was pure nostalgia for me, love seeing old favorites like Blue Eyes, Trap Hole, and Man-eater Bug make big plays. Can’t wait to see the other matchups!
that was a pretty sweet duel. it's really great when it gets so close like that and it seemed like you guys had a fun time
Thank you guys for making this video. Brings me back to 1st grade playing against my friends at school and my brother at home. Brought me much joy to see.
I remember being at Toys R Us and buying my first actual started deck. Yugi’s Dark Magician deck was $20!
Thank you for this awesome, authentic content!!
I literally have not played Yugioh since these decks. So much nostalgia. I'm sad to see that the game has gotten so out of hand over the years, but at least there's the good memories.
I feel like I'm aging myself for nearly remembering by heart what soul exchange does.. but @25:10 you can't attack with Dark Magician as Soul Exchange makes you skip your battle phase for the turn.
See I was thinkin that too! Like you tribute they stuff but you don't get to use it till the next turn. Old Yugioh was really balanced and about taking your time to think ahead. Not as 'oh you stepped into my trap so I fusion using Super Poly on your turn and use your whole field! Now you can't respond and I'll be able to attack you for game." as the TCG now.
@@davefreeman5837 Yarp, I stopped playing not too far into XYZ release after Absolute Zero was released because I couldn't take it anymore.

Wow this duel was actually INCREDIBLE with the amount of back-and-forth play. A slow burn to an epic finale
Thank you for including the cards on screen when you play them but this was fun to watch, hope to see more!
This was awesome to see. Both summoned their strongest monster in the first duel. Brings me to the countless battles me and my friends would have during sleepovers! Ahhh nostalgia. 😭😭😭
I just wanna make a note that when you used soul exchange you wouldn’t have been able to use dark magician to attack his Lord of D. it ends your battle phase. Making the duel have a slightly different outcome.
He failed to destroy Lord of D the turn after with Maneater Bug' effect.
Didn’t lord of d protect blue eyes from the soul exchange anyway?
@@BondingleStudios honestly, that’s how I used to play back in the day too. Not sure why they thought that it doesn’t “target” the specific monster so you’re allowed to destroy blue eyes.
@@mikes_tcg_collectibles4836 technically, it's true. I've seen a video about how confusing "targeting" is in yugioh, and they specifically said how, officially, soul exchange doesn't target... I don't know why, but they're following the rules there
If you think that's bad, ultimate offering only works for the player who plays it... not both.
very happy you guys are making these best of threes, love this and cant wait for the others!
16:50 That was the best possible use of Doma ever although you did miss 300 damage :P
25:12 Soul Exchange makes it so that you can't go to the battle phase that turn
Lots of fun looking forward to the other matches
was just gonna mention that, glad not the only one that noticed
Soul Exchange also targets.
That soul Exchange was a real criminal
Man it’s deeper than just the cards. Seeing those decks makes me miss my old house, my old province, and my mum. She’d hide Yugioh card packs in the house for me to find sometimes.
Theres something about the way that Konami used to print these cards that is just so much better than the new cards in my opinion. The slight aesthetic differences and seeing them is weird lol
this was so great. blue eyes made an appearance every duel, last time actually being summoned by lord of D!! just to get tributed for dark magician, and that final stretch of the end game to win the match was fire.. peak anime level energy

So crazy that they’re doing this. I had this idea back in 2017 but with multiple trading card games and going through each starter deck. The only problem was, my first card game to play with my friends was Pokémon, and I could not stop. I think I have these yu gi oh starter decks somewhere. Dope video guys. Enjoyed every minute

Man... What a spin at the end!! lol
Awesome, guys! Super nostalgic and fun duels. 😆
Had Yugi's starter deck way back when, fav card was actually Neo the Magic Swordsman, to this day is the card I imagine myself as the most. Also 25:10 Soul exchange should have skipped your battle phase for the turn.

@@TechMeister-1993 Yeah, I'd bet if they had Corridor's help they could pull it off.
An anime series with a similar concept would be pretty awesome too!
Googling ultimate offering, I think it can only be used by the owner, either on their main phase or opponents battle phase. 7:51 Yugi just acted like the trap was his and used it on the owners battle phase which isn’t how the card even works 😂
Playing with these old cards back then was fun also because we always had our own interpretations of how the card effects actually worked even if they weren’t correct/legal.
yea.. im pretty sure ¨you¨ means owner of the card, usually older cards said you or your opponent´´ to specify
The original printing said:
"At the cost of 500 Life Points per monster, a player is allowed an extra Normal Summon or Set."
The rulings on it were all over the place, but it was interpreted back then that either player could use the effect of Ultimate Offering.
It was legal. Both players can use the card at any point lmao
I really enjoy your content of older cards. I haven’t kept current with Yu-Gi-Oh metas, but this content is super nostalgic for me. Keep up the good work guys.
24:58 Soul Exchange does target, but that might be hard to realize with the original errata
Also doesnt soul exchange prevent you attacking also the turn you use it.
@@davidkeller7031 That is only with the current errata. They were playing straight OG card effects, I think.
Oh yea you are right
@@Will_Forge no he's still right. it says during your main phase or the "opponent's" battle phase, he can use it. the other player shouldn't be able to.
@@Will_Forge either errata wouldn't allow the opponent to do that

Just now watching it and wow did it bring back memories of how old duels used to work. I stopped playing seriously around 5D, and have completely lost touch with the new dueling meta. But man this brought a tear to my eye. Such classic cards and starter decks and a great duel
This short series needs more likes, these guys spent damn near 4k to make these videos 👀👀🔥🔥🔥keep it going

The joey deck was my very first deck that got me into the game, red eyes was my prized possession for so long
They were so cheap back then!
Honestly miss duels like theses with my friends
The long games but more due to weaker cards
It’s really refreshing to have such simple duels with not having to squint my eyes trying to read an effect that I’m probably not gonna understand
Fantastic video ! Love to see Joey fight Kaiba next !
I've just built both decks in Master Duel, now i'm looking for people up for a game.
Now yugioh is only ash blossom, handtraps and droplet...
The Seto starter deck was the first Yugioh cards that I ever got. I still have my original Blue Eyes (not in great condition, mind you, but still).

I'm pretty sure Ultimate offering only works for the player controlling it. Or have I missed something?
So what we have established is there was definitely some typical Yugi shinnanigans going on, we just aren't sure how much
I love how knowledgeable of the game and respectful you two are the whole time. I lost interest playing Yu-GI-Oh years ago cause every turn would just be an argument of the rules. It’s no fun playing a game when you have to debate what should be black and white rules every step of the way. Love the content!

When you use soul exchange, you can't attack that turn.
Also ultimate offering can't be used by the opponent.

24:50 Soul exchange prevents the battle phase the turn it is used. Dark magician should not have been able to swing over Lord of D.
Also it does say target so he could have not targed blue-eyea
Also Paul could have used two pronged attack in response to stop it
Two prong attack targets too and lord of d wont let it go he protects all dragon
back when yugioh was a fun game
I love how in simpler yugioh all these crazy plays are more of an exception than a default so they feel more surprising and fun and your decks are simple enough that you just focus on your opponents surprising plays rather than constantly calculating all the things your deck can respond with
Your passion and the fun watching this has brought back to me !
This was more exciting than trying to watch any duel nowadays
