The Yugi vs Kaiba duel pretty much captured how I felt about both decks. Yugi's was always the deeper and better deck so it usually had the advantage but just like in the first duel, Kaiba's had the ability to completely control a duel with just Blue Eyes. If you didn't draw the right set of cards with Yugi's deck while Blue Eyes was wreaking havoc, you're done. But of course it's moot cause Yugi's deck won lol.
On paper, I thought Kaiba's deck was better, but it definitely seems like Yugi's deck flows more smoothly from weak to strong monsters. Curse of Dragon and Summoned Skull put in A LOT of work when they're Tribute Summoned, and Kaiba can't always get out Blue-Eyes easily.
@@TeamAPS Yeah that's what it is. Yugi's deck has a lot more high powered non-Dark Magician cards. In the second duel at 24:50 when he soul exchanged he shouldn’t be able to attack that would lead to him ending his turn. If Paul then summoned anything he could of activated two pronged attack to kill two for one destroying dark magician. Then ending his turn. Afterwards Paul could have trapped hole the very next monster leading it to being his turn and having a monster advantage changing the rest of the outcome possibly. Edit- Paul still won that duel lol that was a crazy comeback.
I remember asking for the Starter Deck Pegasus as a present a long, long time ago. I remember thinking how interesting of a deck Pegasus had, with the one part being about silly toons, and the other part being these eldritch nightmare creatures, like Relinquished. These were great! Thank you gentlemen for doing this, put a huge smile on my face, the nostalgia hit real hard. Keep on doing great things, hope you guys have a wonderful year!
I don't recall my first yugioh product. I know it was just a single booster pack, and my dad and I would "split" the cards and duel. I remember coming home one day and my dad had bought starter deck yugi, kaiba, and joey. Been playing old school yugioh ever since.
On a whim, I DLd "Master Duel" very recently, and needed a refresher on gameplay and YT recommended your channel. YT gets some things right sometimes! Thanks for the GGs, guys! Cheers!

GETTING BACK INTO YUGIOH AND MAN YOU GUYS HAVE THE BEST DARN VIDEOS ! LOVE IT ... STILL ONLY PLAY RETRO , COMING BACK INTO IT ITS NUTS HOW MUCH THE GAME HAS CHANGED .
at 24:51 "Soul Exchange" was played. It says "Target 1 monster your opponent controls...." But this effect shouldn´t work on Blue eyes white Dragon because of Lord of D. or am I missing something?
Thanks, for confirming both of those, I thought that I was also missing something. Paul said "unfortunatelly it doesn't target", but it does - the very first word of this card's description. Also even if we go with it you can't attack that turn. For "ultimate offering" even if we allow both players to use it (I googled it and it seems that was the thing at first), Alec used it during his battle and main phases I think, so it's better to use one of the interpretations, that you either are "You" (on the card), so use it during your main or enemy's battle, or as a opponent do it other way around use it during you battle not in your main, which seems weird for me.
Why did they keep attacking the turns Soul Exchange was played?!👀 I kept researching if the original version allowed attacks, but apparently it’s never allowed them.
Amazing! Thank you so much for going through the trouble of tracking these down for us to watch you play with. Takes me straight back to my childhood, the Kaiba structure was also my first deck.

Nostalgia hit me hard with the Joey starter deck. That was the very first deck I ever bought as a kid back in the day. Mainly because the red eyes black dragon is my all time favorite card. ❤ I kick myself in the ass for not taking better care of my Joey starter deck. I can’t believe I would see those decks EVERYWHERE IN EVERY SINGLE HOBBY STORE and now it’s a piece of history. Those decks are crazy expensive on eBay. 🥲 I can’t afford it at the moment, but if possible I would re-purchase Joey’s deck. Thank you for the trip down memory lane.

There are old Yu-Gi-Oh video games still out there from back in the day :) They can either be bought ultra cheap second (or third, fourth) hand online, most can be got for free online! :D And all these old IRL physical cards are out there too. There are websites which make it as easy and cheap as possible to buy whatever cards you want. You can put together oldschool decks for you and your friends to play :) There is also goat format tournaments which only use old cards, so you can even play oldschool competetive nowadays!!!!!!! :D
oh man this is going to be awesome!! i remember cracking starter deck kaiba back in the day- i kinda want to collect all 4 of these and display them xD
I personally think Joey's is the most balanced deck, yeah it doesn't have something that swings over blue-eyes but the amount of utility through eternal rest- huge relinquish stopper, and has a decent amount of warrior monsters that boast over 1500, it's pretty nice.
@@TeamAPS Yeah. I can get behind that! I hope at some point you guys can try taking the deck themes to the highest extent they can go. Get like a Yugi Deck running Dark Magician support or Exodia. The game had such a good interaction between the players in the past, and the game looks so much more fun to play with no control or combo decks there to take all the fun away... I miss GOAT era
Everyones talking about ultimate offering this, ultimate offering that but you cant tribute blue eyes off of soul exchange because it targets a monster and lord of d says you cant target dragons in general

My parents were too poor at the time to ever buy me one unfortunately (although very cutely they did eventually buy me a single booster pack, thinking it was enough for me to play with). Kinda funny to think that a couple decades later they're worth a fortune. Nobody at the time could have guessed! I was always drawn to that Pegasus one in particular with its crisp packaging and that big creepy Relinquished showing through the front.
I was confused as well, but the original did say “a player is allowed an extra normal summon or set”. Meaning it can be used at any time or by either player.
@@maxcrss2845 I know it does say that, it's still not how it worked. Just look at the original japanese print, or Royal Oppression which explicitly states that both players can use its effect.
That soul exchange misplay mattered. DM couldn't attack, could have normal summoned next turn and cleared m with two prong attack. Though I likely would have two pronged at the soul exchange and cleared giant soldier of stone.
Don't know if this was already commented but I'll point it out anyways, Soul Exchange requires the player that uses it to skip their battle phase that turn... Alec's a cheater!!! Fun video guys thanks for the content!

These are so nostalgic. Growing up in the early/mid-2000s Yugioh hype was on another level. One of my fondest Christmas memories was getting the Kaiba starter deck (and dueling a friend who got the Yugi starter deck) and a Legend of Blue Eyes tin and getting two BEWDs and Exodia left leg.
These duels are more entertaining than any “meta” duels today!! I love old format.
Cheers!
1:21:30 That's the most Joey victory that anyone could imagine.
classic yugioh decks are honestly fun, the battles can be so swingy
Watching these get opened hurt, but seeing all these decks again and watching you guys duel with them made me feel so much nostalgia.1:54:02 :)
Man, I miss this kind of playing. Where it was more how you reacted based on the cards you drew than one set strategy that you built around a combination of 3 cards.
I wish grandpa muto had a starter deck
They actually did make a prototype, but it never released.
U are correct. Also, only the card owner of ultimate offering can use its effect
Thanks, for confirming both of those, I thought that I was also missing something. Paul said "unfortunatelly it doesn't target", but it does - the very first word of this card's description. Also even if we go with it you can't attack that turn.
For "ultimate offering" even if we allow both players to use it (I googled it and it seems that was the thing at first), Alec used it during his battle and main phases I think, so it's better to use one of the interpretations, that you either are "You" (on the card), so use it during your main or enemy's battle, or as a opponent do it other way around use it during you battle not in your main, which seems weird for me.
so glad im not the only one that noticed that
Why did they keep attacking the turns Soul Exchange was played?!👀 I kept researching if the original version allowed attacks, but apparently it’s never allowed them.
Amazing! Thank you so much for going through the trouble of tracking these down for us to watch you play with. Takes me straight back to my childhood, the Kaiba structure was also my first deck.
match 3 ending with just desserts was perfect
God I miss this vibe in Yu-Gi-Oh!
I can't even get back into newer Yu-Gi-Oh! Its just no fun for me.
Ordering that pizza was a good idea. Here goes 2 hours of my life. lol
Wow, incredible to see the original decks. Awesome video.
Oh thats so nice guys ! Next time lets try with my 4 japanese structure decks with awesome cards (mirror force in yugi, ccv in kaiba, raigeki in pegasus, jinzo in joey, etc)
At 25:00, the battle phase couldnt even be entered because of soul exchange
Yep but the duels are for fun not for titles but I do see ya point
Also shouldn't have even been able to soul exchange because of Lord of D
That "Dragon Treasure equip to Blue eyes Toon - Eternal rest" Combo was SICK!
I am grateful you guys made a new video based on a marathon of nostalgic structure decks!
Ugh even I can feel it seeing those boxes open it’s An amazing video just looking at these being opened though is painful and I bet it was even worse for you guys who had to open the box’s stay strong! (An amazing video definitely needs more likes for such a historical yet painful opening)
Nostalgia hit me hard with the Joey starter deck. That was the very first deck I ever bought as a kid back in the day. Mainly because the red eyes black dragon is my all time favorite card. ❤
I kick myself in the ass for not taking better care of my Joey starter deck. I can’t believe I would see those decks EVERYWHERE IN EVERY SINGLE HOBBY STORE and now it’s a piece of history. Those decks are crazy expensive on eBay. 🥲
I can’t afford it at the moment, but if possible I would re-purchase Joey’s deck. Thank you for the trip down memory lane.
It’s crazy hearing these being called “pieces of history” when I remember as a kid seeing these fully stocked at Toys R Us and Target all the time 😢
Same life
The first Yu-Gi-Oh Deck I ever got was the Pegasus Starter deck on Christmas in 2003. That same day my brother got the Joey Starter Deck. Times were great back then...
Enjoy the smell of those OG decks for me please.
I really enjoyed this vid. a blast from the past! thank you so much!
Glad you enjoyed it!
So much nostalgia.
Wish we could play like this in a game with these cards not all the new stuff going on.
Thank you for nostalgic memories
There are old Yu-Gi-Oh video games still out there from back in the day :)
They can either be bought ultra cheap second (or third, fourth) hand online, most can be got for free online! :D
And all these old IRL physical cards are out there too. There are websites which make it as easy and cheap as possible to buy whatever cards you want.
You can put together oldschool decks for you and your friends to play :)
There is also goat format tournaments which only use old cards, so you can even play oldschool competetive nowadays!!!!!!! :D
Oh yeah !! I love this old school duel with you 2 ! Great !!
Omg finally!! I've been asking for this since you bought them!
oh man this is going to be awesome!!
i remember cracking starter deck kaiba back in the day- i kinda want to collect all 4 of these and display them xD
Just discovered the channel and i love it, great work boys, nostalgia overload
I personally think Joey's is the most balanced deck, yeah it doesn't have something that swings over blue-eyes but the amount of utility through eternal rest- huge relinquish stopper, and has a decent amount of warrior monsters that boast over 1500, it's pretty nice.
Overall I think it goes Joey > Yugi > Kaiba > Pegasus
@@TeamAPS
Yeah. I can get behind that!
I hope at some point you guys can try taking the deck themes to the highest extent they can go. Get like a Yugi Deck running Dark Magician support or Exodia. Run a triple blue eyes, with ultimate and have some of the blue-eyes support in there in Kaiba's case. Things like that.
This was a lot of fun and brought back a lot of good memories. Gotta love the classics.
I found your channel guys and I am in love, love this starter decks video. Greetings from a Yu-Gi-Oh! fan from Argentina!
The game had such a good interaction between the players in the past, and the game looks so much more fun to play with no control or combo decks there to take all the fun away... I miss GOAT era
the editing is really good in this video :D
Love this old school yu gi oh Videos from you guys!
Greetings from germany (:
Everyones talking about ultimate offering this, ultimate offering that but you cant tribute blue eyes off of soul exchange because it targets a monster and lord of d says you cant target dragons in general
I was yelling this at my TV, even went back and paused it like "Paul, why would you throw like that?!" Goes to show how true the saying is, YGO players don't read cards Lmao
Yeah, mistakes were made. 😅
@TeamAPS not trying to be negative, it's all in fun. I was super baked, thought it was funny
@@TeamAPS😂 Paul just wanted to uh give Alec all the handicaps he could, clearly.
Such an awesome video! Reminds me of playing back in 2002! Keep up the great work.
Love this compilations, pretty chill and fun
Man i grew up with yugioh had all these Decks, now trying to get back into the game and wow has it changed synchro, xyz, link, and pendulum all crazy hope it’s simple to get back in really enjoyed the vid
Not sure what happened with Yugi vs Pegasus but the editing was super fun on that one :D
I can smell that new deck smell. I owned the Yugi, Joey and Pegasus deck.
Wow this is such a throwback!!!! I remember being obsessed with yu gi oh. My favorite was the Pegasus deck
there is beauty in the simplicity of this era of yugioh.
Man, I remember being 8 years old and seeing these exact starter decks on the shelves in lots of stores.
I had all 4 when they were dropped back in the day, awesome memories
Top notch content 💯 more classic decks duels like this 👏🏻
The fact that Paul sent Penguin Soldier to the graveyard kills me at 46:52
I know the original Ultimate Offering had a weird way to explain its effect, but it never allowed your opponent to use it too.
I’m so glad I still have my yugioh cards after all these years. Made great memories playing with my cousins during thanksgiving and Christmas
That soul exchange misplay mattered. DM couldn't attack, could have normal summoned next turn and cleared m with two prong attack. Though I likely would have two pronged at the soul exchange and cleared giant soldier of stone.
@@rexusthevaliant6311 I caught that too 💀 lol
I can't beieve how I was glued to the screen during this duels
God this takes me back! I remember spending all one Saturday afternoon with my dad and brother trying to find the og starters.
I wish i could have had a friend like this to play these decks back in the day. You guys are the best
Don't know if this was already commented but I'll point it out anyways, Soul Exchange requires the player that uses it to skip their battle phase that turn... Alec's a cheater!!! Fun video guys thanks for the content!
The nostalgia is real!!!! The first ever yugioh cards i ever had as a kid was the starter deck yugi. Watching these duels, these cards wouldnt stand a chance in todays world. 😢
Caralho esse duelo foi extremamente emocionante hauhauha vocês arrebentaram meninos, parabéns pelo conteúdo....
Always nice to rewatch these videos. 😄
If it's possible, how about calling the other APSs to make a battle royal with these 4 decks? Or a 2x2. ✌
Yeah, it's just tough to get everyone together for an extended period of time, but it's something we'd love to try!
@@TeamAPS Totally understandable.
Time is a tough entity to deal with, sometimes. XDD
Hope you guys can do it and have some fun together. ✌
Starter Deck Kaiba changed my life as a kid.
