    The Yugi vs Kaiba duel pretty much captured how I felt about both decks. Yugi's was always the deeper and better deck so it usually had the advantage but just like in the first duel, Kaiba's had the ability to completely control a duel with just Blue Eyes. If you didn't draw the right set of cards with Yugi's deck while Blue Eyes was wreaking havoc, you're done. But of course it's moot cause Yugi's deck won lol.

    • @TeamAPS
      @TeamAPS  9 месяцев назад +24

      On paper, I thought Kaiba's deck was better, but it definitely seems like Yugi's deck flows more smoothly from weak to strong monsters. Curse of Dragon and Summoned Skull put in A LOT of work when they're Tribute Summoned, and Kaiba can't always get out Blue-Eyes easily.

    • @BJgrand
      @BJgrand 9 месяцев назад +3

      @@TeamAPS Yeah that's what it is. Yugi's deck has a lot more high powered non-Dark Magician cards. Between Gaia, Summoned Skull & Curse of Dragon, you have a couple of cards that hold the fort until you get Dark Magician out. After Blue eyes, I think the next strongest cards are Judge Man and Swordstalker? I could be wrong on that lol.

    I remember asking for the Starter Deck Pegasus as a present a long, long time ago. I remember thinking how interesting of a deck Pegasus had, with the one part being about silly toons, and the other part being these eldritch nightmare creatures, like Relinquished. It was a fun, deranged duality that really hooked me as a kid, and that I still appreciate 20 years later. I still think Relinquished is one of my favorite cards ever printed.

If Paul then summoned anything he could of activated two pronged attack to kill two for one destroying dark magician. Then ending his turn. Afterwards Paul could have trapped hole the very next monster leading it to being his turn and having a monster advantage changing the rest of the outcome possibly.
    Edit- Paul still won that duel lol that was a crazy comeback.

    I'm not sure if anyone else shared this experience, but shortly after these starter decks came out in the US, I learned about the original Japanese OCG Yugi and Kaiba Structure decks. I was blown away by the powerful cards in those deck lists as compared to the starter decks we got (especially Kaiba's). I think it would be really cool to play those original OCG structure decks against each other in a duel. And to avoid paying a lot of money for the originals (and to avoid playing cards in Japanese) you might be able to simply build those decks lists with TCG cards in English. 12 year-old me would have really appreciated seeing those decks in action.

    The Kaiba Starter Deck was my first deck. I got it as a Christmas present. I was disappointed that it didn't include Polymerization, Minokentaurus (Rabid Horseman), Saggi, Crush Card Virus, or any cards Kaiba used in Duelist Kingdom. I first read "invigoration" with a long "I". Before we followed the tributing mechanic, I used Hane-Hane to bounce my Blue-Eyes.
    As my brother had the Yugi Starter Deck, I had to always expect him to set Man-Eater Bug and Dragon Capture Jar. When my siblings and I first played, there were several misplays, commonly summoning more than one monster in one turn. Another misplay that stood out was my brother playing Ring of Magnetism on a facedown Man-Eater Bug.
    Regarding your first Yugi vs. Kaiba round: I really wished you had Trap Hole or Just Desserts when you needed them.

    If it's possible, how about calling the other APSs to make a battle royal with these 4 decks? Or a 2x2. ✌

    Granted I haven’t played YuGiOh since probably 2005 but I watch a video every few months so I know a new card or two but in my humble option the old cards and old play style will never be outmatched.

    The best strategy back in the day for dealing with the blue eyes was to use change of heart to take control of it for a turn, and then use it as a sacrifice for any monster with five levels or more.
    Sure, you don’t get to use the blue eyes to attack, but you keep your opponent from ever using them to begin with

    Dm cant attack lord of d due to soul exchange.
    Also to add 2 pronged attack could have been a great counter for soul exchange when soul exchange was used there.

    You should play with duelist kingdom rules sometime. No tributes, only attack once a turn, can't attack directly, effect destructions inflict damage equal to half the destroyed monsters atk can only set one spell/trap a turn and lose if you can't summon a monster when you control no monsters.

    26:28 That's not how flip summons work. You have to summon that face down, then flip it on a later turn to activate that effect.
