Some years ago, I went for 2 weeks in a vacation village near the sea. Every time I was going to the beach I always spotted some kids playing yu gi oh on some tables near the beach's restaurant. One day I ordered something to eat at the restaurant/bar and set in a table near them to hear some duels. They were 5 but one of them was something like 4 years older than the others and was making fun of them calling them noobs and claiming to be the best in the region. He won every match with his monarch deck because the other kids built some decks taking inspiration from the anime. The next day I appeared out of nowhere and challenged him, I did all my best to appear like a scrub. I was acting like in the anime, i brought a paper mat and I removed my sleeves. Laughing he accepted my challenge... I won 4 games in a row. Making some excuses he left and I helped the others understand the game better and made them realize their errors. A very old video I know. But I just started playing Yu-Gi-Oh after neglecting the card game my entire life but loving the anime. This video really helped me find out what to do, so thank you!
Thanks for making this video! Those are all good tips to know for all new Yu-Gi-Oh players. I got back into the game when Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS came out and back then, I never thought of getting a game mat. Luckily, I managed to win a Flames of Destruction Sneak Preview Mat.
Dealing with players, rulings, and having to call judges is why I prefer YGO Pro. For the most part explaining things to players who are getting things wrong is pretty easy, but the hassle when you get someone that's scheisty or stubborn it ruins the fun. So since I just wanna playtest/play for fun and click my way through it's perfect.
When I was a beginner to yugioh I didn’t care about nothing like that but now I am 3 months into yugioh I bought some sleeves and it felt good to know that none of my cards are not going to get chipped also I like the fact that he said a 50$ budget and mean while I am here with a 15$ budget
Rokkets are a solid engine, but hard to run on their own. A lot of their monsters feel like normal monsters (thank god for Tracer, Absorouter, and Striker Dragon) that just happen to have their own E-Tele
good tips ... being a new player to the game but around card shops for a while .. about the only other things i could say ... if you are trading with someone be clear how you are trading ... just casually ... or value ... and if value is said .. don't be surprised if the other person points out the condition of the card that was just tossed in a box with others over one from a binder.. :) and second thing ... a little more welcome to newer players .. we are obvious .. playing with older cards ... stopping every moment to read a card to try to figure out what it does ... and yes, we ask a lot of questions ... most everyone at my LGS is friendly about me being new to the game .. some slow down and explain stuff .. others just start talking to a different person instead.... we all gotta learn someplace!
Top-tier video! Thanks a lot! As someone who originally played back from 2002 to 2012 and is just getting back into the game, this is super helpful. I especially appreciate the mention of YGOPro! That'll help me figure out what deck I wanna play!
either always have your bag with you or when with trusted friends always have atleast one friend watching everyone's bag if you need to go to the rest room, pick up the food you all ordered, or going to the counter to pick something up. also my second advice, don't pick up a box if you are looking for specific cards for a deck by that point just invest in singles. If you want multiple things besides a specific deck from the box THEN go for it
ive heard about the first website alot but never knew exactly what to look for, acronyms are insane in this game. so thanks for the link in the description.
I recently got back into yugioh after years of not doing so. (Last time was during the zexal era) And after playing on duel links and finding a new card shop, I thought I'd try getting back into it. So I made an Aromage deck and are hoping for the best.
Just wanted to let you know you are the best YuGiOh channel of all time. I'm super new to the YuGiOh game, and you guys have helped me so much. Thank you once again. You guys are frickin awesome.
YGOPro is great for new players learning rulings and new card effects. When playing new decks against decks I have I have never heard of it's often hard to keep track of what card can do what when and YGOPro helps keeps track of those things for you while you focus on just playing the game. When you feel confident in your knowledge playing ranked on Duelingbook is a great way to test yourself on how will you've mastered your cards and other popular strategies being played by others.
Always keep track and watch your trade binder. Don't duel while someone is looking at your trade binder. I had a friend lost his trade binder cause doesn't watch his stuff carefully and someone stole it.
So, I just recently got back into YuGiOh and oh boy was I surprised by all new rules and cad types. There's only ONE OTS in my hometown, and I go there to buy newer stuff, upgrade my collection and slowly prepare for tournament. Don't expect to win, but would be nice to experience it at least once. Still preparing for it, mentally and building decent deck. Would love to have vampire deck, but alas, only have three vamp cards... 😅 This video was helpful, and love your channel. 😀
My tip: If your deck box can accomodate it (what are you doing playing with a box that can't!?) put your side deck in your box behind the ED. The ED should be in different sleeves, which will help you not do what I do on a daily basis: almost shuffle it into your deck.
As far as budget, also know what deck you want WITHIN your budget, cuz I originally set a budget of $200 but realized that was NOT enough for the red eyes dark dragoom deck I wanted, so I knew what the deck I wanted was but originally it was out of my budget I set, but because I knew I would enjoy the deck regardless I splurged, and I enjoyed it because it's a deck I enjoy, moral of the story, have a budget, but equally as important, know what deck you want and base your budget around THAT
Pro tip, in order to be competitive...at the very least...you need to drop at least 500 bucks. Been playing since star deck yugi and kaiba. This isn't just for a deck. You need the deckbox and materials like a mat and sleeves but also a binder. This is so you can at least have competitive trades so that you you have more interactions with players, and build up the collection. It is really all about business skills to build it. You will find someone who will have a lower value to a card you want. Don't rip a new player/unkowing off who magically pulls ash secret and be like, oh it's worth 10 bucks...negotiate fairly, because even though you find a good deal from a player, be fair, because in the end, those people will network with other players, and you do not want to be the asshole who rips off people, then, you'll just be in limbo. Edit: also don't be an elitist...we get it you topped a ycs/regionals like 5years ago, but it doesn't mean you should be a dick and treat players who may have a lesser skill level than you like garbage. People want to have fun, and yes...not everyone wants to win that YCS or Regional. Remember it is a game, and you were there once before in their shoes. Help them grow and give them tips to continue their growth. And lastly if you play top tier/tier zero at locals and you won, and start being a dick then you're just trash anyways because you needed to be the douche to drop three thunders, 2 saryuja, a borreload, have 3 ash in hand, and 8 negates on board just to say you're a pro player. Don't be that guy.
"pro player" seems more and more like an oxymoron in Yugioh these days as Konami continues to milk the cash cow the meta has become. You ever seen a professional match of Starcraft 2? Those guys are real professional players of a game. It takes less than 1% skill to play modern meta in Yugioh, the entire concept of archetypes pretty much proves this. A player of any game with actual skill will win consistently no matter what quality of "tools" they are given, meanwhile in Yugioh players literally just do a bunch of math to calculate optimum ratios of cards in deck building and then figuratively roll the dice when they draw their first hand. Doing math is not a marker of skill.
lol $500 my ass. you can buy singles on tcgplayer and make a decent deck for $50, certainly no more than $100. deck box, sleeves, mat, all less than $30.
I think it’s important to mention that along with setting a budget you have to know what that budget means. See how much it’s going to cost you to build several decks or just the one you’re interested in before purchasing cards.
Spent around $160, mostly on all singles (90% foils), one gold mega tin, a few olders packs, and some sleeves. Able to make 6 really good decks: 2 burn decks, 1 noble knight deck, a cyber stein otk, a spellcaster/yugi deck, and a warrior beatstick. I play with my friend a few times a week but im looking to get back into the tournaments and locals again. Been 10 years since ive competed but im hoping to bring light to the older cards again. Really dont like the new changes and special summons going on.
Bro, for real. I've been back for two weeks after a 12 year break. Pendulum and link threw me waaay off. Synchro was the newest when I quit, with xyz on the horizon
Also, get new sleeves every now and then. Maybe not if you take a break from the game unless they are somewhere where they can be damaged, but replace them often, especially if you play often.
Can't believe people are still playing this game.. I bought my first starter decks when I was 11 and played with friends for a while. I'm 31 now and my son plays it 😅😅 oh how time flies.
Something that REALLY helped me is checking prices to every single online or local store available. Compare prices for every single card you want to buy. Do a freaking table on excel like I did or some shit. A personal example: Near my place there's a mall with a huge store whose prices were almost TRIPLE than another smaller one just 1 block ahead. ALWAYS COMPARE THE GODDAMN PRICES!!!
Legacy of the duelist for pc,xbox and i think ps4 is also a good game to try out decks and learning the game.. I also use the game to find good cards because those cards will always be in the database there so u can with eaz find everything you need to complete ur real life deck
nice video, the only problem in Las , or in my country, Chile, the price of the card and the decks are really different, in example, a normal deck, of 7 dolars, it cost 4.576 Pesos, but they sell the deck not for that price, they sell it for 20 Dolars, it's 13.000 pesos Chilenos. soo, it's hard to get that things without using the money that you save for more important things.
love all your videos, can we see some OG deck builds team APS builds. maybe your favorites tournament. thinking of building a few decks specific for types/archetypes- would be awesome to see some ideas and rivalries/counters. quite overwhelming to get back into after nearly a 20 year break
My play group has 2 formats of play. Anything goes, and Master Rule 5, 2020 banned and limited list apply. So I didn’t have to destroy my beloved Danger! Thunder Dragons, and I can still play them at all times.
Not bad of a video TeamAPS, I would recommend maybe trying to do a band list video if you guys can. This would be very helpful for most of us in this community.
I honestly agree with the table, I bought speed duel cards and I played with the deck I made by buying the starter decks.I dint have enough sleeves since I just had enough for my Normal deck. After we sat down I then find out people spilled honey due to the little stains. My cards were marked by the stain and I’m still crying to this day
The main tip here is don't buy tier 0 OP decks for like $700 just to play them at your locals a few times before the deck gets hit on the ban list. Stick to consistent decks that have a very low chance of being affected by the ban list.
I built a rokket deck and I was surprised because I didn’t run chaos space, seyfert or savage dragon and it turned out well. (My strat was bringing out zeroboros and banishing the field and then getting another zeroboros to annoy my opponent)
2x more tips from a newbie like I is some venues dont allow you to being food in if they have a cafe.or tuck shop indoors so bring another $5 encase or could always leave and eat what you brought outside. Second tip is type in when trading check price values of each card, being a new guy after opening packs at my locals I found it weird to see 5 guys standing around me when I'm opening.packs, it was intimidating and I almost lost a few to poor trades. I was smart to think of ebay and found a few of mine were worth $100-$20-$30 and I was getting return just trash. Keep hold of your stuff and perhaps do trades with people but 1x at a time and away from the crowds. One more thing, check ebay on everything monster reborn is common but it goes for om.ebay $2.50 so if you got 8 laying about you could trade for some stuff in the other guys folder
I fell out of yugioh for a bit (when scyrho monster were first introduced) and the new rules with stuff like link monster are really confusing. Is there any place you guys recommend going to learn the new rules
@@Carlos.Rivera you are an actual idiot mst does not negate unless the card it destroys says "this card must be face-up on the field to activate and to resolve this effect" or "this card must be face-up on the field to resolve this effect" unless the card says so mst dosn't Negate.
Bro, I legit was in the EXACT same situation of what you said about Shaddolls. Although I saw the deck as unfair at first I then learned it was one of the fairest decks of all time and then began to love it and get the cards since they started to be reasonably priced. To this day I still don't understand why they hit Shaddolls so bad and really even AT ALL back then when they did other than Konami got greedy and saw that budget players were winning games and wanted to make more money rather than have a healthy and happy community.
I'm just kinda starting out myself! I've watched the anime but I haven't really played the game. I've been trying to make a deck so far! You know, in case Kaiba wants to deul!
Only personal negative about sleeves that I have is that I don't find them as appealing as the regular look on back of the cards. It's just a personal opinion tho :p
Low key wanna get back into yugioh but I've heard bad things about the game and the playerbase. I was thinking of buying 3 soulburner structure decks and starting there.
I had a crazy deck when I was a kid that I built over like 5 years and ended up giving them to my younger cousin. Now I'm trying to get back into it, even if I don't know anyone to duel. I spent about $150 on cards and I have a pretty competitive deck. I really don't see how anyone could spend $500 or 1k on cards lol.
Damn. I played a non-sleeve at a locals before covid we were at the local game store and the corners of his cards were splitting. I spent £2 to buy him some sleeves to save my sanity
I thought that thumbnail item was an invisible ink light thing. I thought you might've been suggesting to possibly mark your cards in case someone might steal them. I wouldn't suggest doing that but I wouldn't fault anyone for doing so.

You guy's are really stepping up your quality and the look feels very professional and polished! Props to you guys for getting team aps into a buisiness!!
Great and helpful tips, thank you for posting this! 🙌 I just started collecting cards again around 2 years ago and a few weeks ago I got my first set of sleeves and deckboxes. Today I ordered my first playmat. 🤗 I'm excited to start playing!
I'm from Brazil.
Tanks for using a clear e proper english.
A fan of yours, and yugioh!
I didnt buy a playmat because I was on the budget side on decks but my mom got me a powercode playmat for christmas and I love the feeling of it
All you need is one 😉
Lucky kid when u get older u won't get cards like when u 21+
Is it rubber?
Oh yeah yeah
I think it's made out of rubber it feels like rubber
If your just starting YUGIOH, run Cyber Dragons. The structure deck is amazing and the deck is very cheap for how good it is.
LMAO! Metro *cyber emergency intensifys*
Rokket/borrel dragons is how I started 2 weeks ago
Rokkets are a solid engine, but hard to run on their own. A lot of their monsters feel like normal monsters (thank god for Tracer, Absorouter, and Striker Dragon) that just happen to have their own E-Tele
Completely new to this. Gotta say that after knowing about it for so long I regret not starting years ago
good tips ... being a new player to the game but around card shops for a while .. about the only other things i could say ... if you are trading with someone be clear how you are trading ... just casually ... or value ... and if value is said .. don't be surprised if the other person points out the condition of the card that was just tossed in a box with others over one from a binder..
This is helpful to this day as a guy trying to get back into the tcg due to master duel sparking the duelist within me lol
either always have your bag with you or when with trusted friends always have atleast one friend watching everyone's bag if you need to go to the rest room, pick up the food you all ordered, or going to the counter to pick something up. also my second advice, don't pick up a box if you are looking for specific cards for a deck by that point just invest in singles. If you want multiple things besides a specific deck from the box THEN go for it
Well... I'm a new player and I love this game and all the series no matter what, seriously how can someone possibly be a hater???
ive heard about the first website alot but never knew exactly what to look for, acronyms are insane in this game. so thanks for the link in the description.
I live in a smallish city in England and there's no card shops
Me to
I live in Leeds and we have a shop with tournaments
What city?
@@romeo.2010_ Bath
Tournament sleeves are not to protect cards at tournaments, but to prevent card cutting and other cheat techniques that rely on morphing the cards.
19 people are too busy chicken choking in there basement to get out and duel.
F the haters, your on point with this video.
FYI I only choke chickens once a day. The other 23 hours and fifteen minutes I spend dueling myself!
Or some people have physical disabilities who love the game, but can't go outside.
I swear you guys are the best resource for new players. Thanks again y’all.
This video was helpful, and love your channel.
You didnt put Ygopro and dueling book links
We'll fix that!

@@RealRinka what did he say before it was deleted?
If you think older cards are going to be able to compete, I wish you good luck
I'm currently learning to play....your vids are very informal...keep making more!
I love videos like these. It’s great seeing people looking out for new players.
I even followed one of these tutorials
Also, get new sleeves every now and then. Maybe not if you take a break from the game unless they are somewhere where they can be damaged, but replace them often, especially if you play often.
I want to play yu gi oh so much but unfortanely in portugal there are just stores with ygo and stuff in Lisbon and Porto (far away citys of my house)
Can't believe people are still playing this game.. I bought my first starter decks when I was 11 and played with friends for a while. I'm 31 now and my son plays it 😅😅 oh how time flies.
where I live it's impossible to find people that still play. I really like Yugioh but I've got no one to play with IRL.
This is why I love this channel
Was very impressed by the quality of this video, keep up the great work!
Put different sleeves on your extra deck and your main deck.
Thank you for this. I LOVE Yu-Gi-Oh! but I am totally new to the game. This vid is helpful :)
It's coming! 😎
Thanks!!!
I honestly agree with the table, I bought speed duel cards and I played with the deck I made by buying the starter decks.I dint have enough sleeves since I just had enough for my Normal deck. After we sat down I then find out people spilled honey due to the little stains. My cards were marked by the stain and I’m still crying to this day
Just found this channel. Starting to get back into the game after playing on the Xbox. Awesome channel.
The main tip here is don't buy tier 0 OP decks for like $700 just to play them at your locals a few times before the deck gets hit on the ban list. Stick to consistent decks that have a very low chance of being affected by the ban list.
Thanks man, definitely helped a lot! I collected and traded in middle school and like 8 years later finally trying to get into the real thing. 😁
Thanks so much Alec, I was trying to find out a way that I could get more competitive on Yu-Gi-Oh!
I will never play links. I think yugioh should have stopped at xyz. Or at least slowed it down.
Reece Campten Myers made the game better but it's personal preferences
I said the same thing when I got back in to Yu-Gi-Oh but now I'm running Knightmares and borrels 😅
I ll never play xyz
I ll never play pendulum ( that 1 i actually did)
I ll never play link
Well guess what? I am playing link n exis
@@nevenaninkoviclazniprofil3548 xyz are a staple if you're running any kinda lvl 2,3,4 deck
Found the True Draco player.
Really solid video, man. I'ma send this to my friends who just got jumped in.
I was recently given over 1000 vintage and new cards by a friend and i now have a deck of pendulum cards.
I fell out of yugioh for a bit (when scyrho monster were first introduced) and the new rules with stuff like link monster are really confusing. Is there any place you guys recommend going to learn the new rules
Rip me with no shops or anything where I can play locals at within a 1.5 hour drive

It let"s you draw two cards from your godamm deck
It can be negated with mst
@@Carlos.Rivera you are an actual idiot mst does not negate unless the card it destroys says "this card must be face-up on the field to activate and to resolve this effect" or "this card must be face-up on the field to resolve this effect" unless the card says so mst dosn't Negate.
"Make a habit of it" Yah, that's kinda what makes it hard to join.... you can't be casual and go once in a while anymore...
It's also important to have cards that have special abilities (effects) that help each other for summoning or boosting attack and defense points etc
YuGiOh isn’t the only game we ALL play in the dark in our rooms🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😉😉😉😉🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You should make an update to this for Covid. Especially as someone who’s almost 30, your other videos about coming back to the game was spot on
You forgot one more site. Dueling Nexus. It's like YGO go pro and dueling book
I belive i used that site. Buuuut it didnt have all the cards i woud like in my deck. While ygopro has like every card.
Bro, I legit was in the EXACT same situation of what you said about Shaddolls. Although I saw the deck as unfair at first I then learned it was one of the fairest decks of all time and then began to love it and get the cards since they started to be reasonably priced. To this day I still don't understand why they hit Shaddolls so bad and really even AT ALL back then when they did other than Konami got greedy and saw that budget players were winning games and wanted to make more money rather than have a healthy and happy community.
i have been playing yugioh for several years now, but i still watch videos like this
I'm just kinda starting out myself!
I've watched the anime but I haven't really played the game.
I've been trying to make a deck so far!
You know, in case Kaiba wants to deul!
I joined the discord after seeing this video, and just wanted to say how helpful everyone has been
Welcome to the #Squad
Yall hear that Charger 1:44 the still great tip im already into the game but these still helped me out
Only personal negative about sleeves that I have is that I don't find them as appealing as the regular look on back of the cards. It's just a personal opinion tho :p
Low key wanna get back into yugioh but I've heard bad things about the game and the playerbase. I was thinking of buying 3 soulburner structure decks and starting there.
Eh. I find that Meta players tend to be incredibly strict given there decks are so methodical. Try dueling either goat or casual players
Yeah, they aren't that bad, meta or casual players, you can still find chill people to hang around with.
I had a crazy deck when I was a kid that I built over like 5 years and ended up giving them to my younger cousin. Now I'm trying to get back into it, even if I don't know anyone to duel. I spent about $150 on cards and I have a pretty competitive deck. I really don't see how anyone could spend $500 or 1k on cards lol.
this is crazy i thought people stoped thank you so much
All the card games are more popular now than before
You thought people stopped? Lmao they have videos of tournaments and they have cards in supermarkets and game stores
