Why the hell have you only 18k subs man the stuff you do from start to finish is flawless. thank you always shared and liked
The way you explain it, I understood what I was doing. You're a great teacher! Wax on wax off! 🤣
That's good to hear! Glad to help.
Newbie on this Edge - Open subject, as an RC flyer, i discovered your channel videos series on Radiomaster and openTX / Edge. I am impressed on your videos, sounds clear and very instructive. My 69 old brain succeeds to follow your explanations. Within few days watching your videos on Radiomaster T16 - Open TX and Edge it becomes very familiar to me, thanks to you. Very interesting move in the RC field and possibilities. I am still in Futaba T6K and Spektrum DX6e, big gap between radios as you can imagine ...
I'm certainly glad you found the content useful. I have several playlists you might find useful:

Thanks for the recent EdgeTX stuff, I should be getting my base hall TX16S tomorrow and after seeing how nice it is from these vids and a club member recommending it, EdgeTX will be the first thing I set up!
Good luck!
Easy to follow ! Clear top job man ! Hit that bell 🔔 look forward to more vids 😊
i made new card by using your instructions and it works as far as firmware goes i havnt ventured further yet
Good deal.
Well covered John :)
I'd add few more things.
1. You can transfer sound packs using Buddy (seems there is a bug so when you select 2.6 they don't appear but selecting 2.5 or 'Latest' will do the job')
2. You can 'Copy URL" - so if you want to send a link to someone pointing to particular firmware and/or radio model just click 'Copy URL' and paste it in message
3. You can download selected firmware for future (off-line) using 'Local file' as source of flashed firmware (kind of advanced method)
New features in development so we progress to simplify setup/upgrade process and eliminate need to visit GItHub. :)
Thanks for adding the clarifications Robert. I kind of thought it was odd the sound packs weren't there.
As always, very informative and this is so easy, both my Max and Carbon Edition TX16S never been so happy 😂. This is another safe way to keep your Tx updated. Thanks John for sharing
Glad to help! Thanks for the comment.
Hi guys, for those of you can't see STM32 BOOTLOADER or have troubles with this step, simply use zadig-2.3 to install the correct driver. This worked for me 😉
I was losing my mind before I found your comment. No idea why everyone else get this driver installed and we dont :(
Not free software
Saved my life again :-))
Great video...clear explanation....comprehensive site list.
Thanks again!
You're welcome!
Great video man, thank you so much for doing these! I'm not a pc wizard and this type of stuff usually gives me a migraine! But your series makes it easy enough for my burnt brain to follow and now I've finally got Edge TX running!
Glad I could help!
ANOTHER AWESOME video John. Thanks for sharing. Hope to catch your next video of these live, just keep missing the notification.
Weird you're not getting notifications. Another option you might consider is turning on notifications for the #announcements channel in discord. The discord bot posts notifications in there everytime I post a video. That might help at least let you know a video is coming up.
@@RCVideoReviews That is turned on in Discord, might just be a timing issue of when the announcements is sent and how soon the session starts. My bad for not seeing it.
Thanks this is super helpful, my new TX16S arrives today!
Great to hear! Have fun with your new radio.
Outstanding presentation, love it! Have my first Open/EdgeTX on the way. It's the Zorro but thanks to your EdgeTX/TX16 videos, I think I know what to do when it arrives :-)
Good deal. Enjoy your new Zorro.
I guess it's good that EdgeTX is developing more stuff. But honestly I have never had an easier time loading firmware on anything then when using their SD card option. You just copy the SD card contents to the card, drop the current firmware in the correct folder, flash the bootloader, then flash the firmware. It has worked perfectly on multiple radios. Such a pleasant experience compared to the DAYS I have wasted trying to sort out OpenTX "SD Card Error"'s.
That's how I do things too. I just flash from the bootloader. It's fast and easy. But...different strokes for different folks.
Love the flag in the background on your radio. Thanks
Thank you :) You're welcome.
Thanks for that. Buddy seems like the way to go.
Buddy is useful for a scratch install especially if your PC sees your radio correctly.
The Edge guys "ROCK"!
Agreed!
Great video thank u I think this way of getting to edge TX its very easy and since I haven't done it , I think I'm going to .
No reason not to. It works great. 2.7.1 has been superb.
@@RCVideoReviews listen I have been watching ur videos for long time and I always try back up the SD card when I'm going to upgrade but yesterday I want it to make another SD card to install on buddy and I don't know what I did wrong that I brick the radio . Lol 😆 😆 ok I think that I know what I did wrong but I'm not going to explain I'm working right now and I don't want no body to see me with my phone anyways I just order me another Radio Master tx 16s with edgetx already in it .
Very cool, thank you for the information, John!!
Thanks for watching!
Man that was helpful ❤
Good! Glad to help.
Hello,
a SUPER video very well explained.
All thumbs up 👍👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
That's it.
I'm jumping to edge.
Briliant as always
Good luck with the migration.
my hero!
:)
Again brilliant help well done thanks a mil for all the help pal
No problem 👍
Excellent video, one of your best!!!
Wow, thanks!
Brilliant help as always
Thanks for the kind comment.
i just updated my edgetx using the edgetx flasher . This all it took. leaving my tx16s off, i plugged in my radio, selected my radio and hit flash. It took about 5 minutes total and im done. Not much info on using the flasher, i guess its not needed
I would enjoy seeing your approach to setting up a rover model.
All of my RC craft fly. Sadly, I wouldn't know the first thing about a rover setup. However, I have a LOT of OpenTX/EdgeTX material. I'm sure if you watch those video and ignore the fact my outputs control aircraft surfaces/motors and substitute rover controls/motors you will glean a great deal of setup knowledge.
Great , very informative !
Glad it was helpful!
amazing!
:)
Hi, thanks for this, a quick question if I may, is EdgeTX now ready for mainstream use? I recall watching a previous video where it wasn't? I appreciate it doesn't appear to be beta, but is it good enough that you'd fly your more expensive models? Thx
Everything I fly is now on edge including $2k+ helicopters.
Very helpful stuff.. my TX16s is asking to up date the internal module for multi protocol... have you done a video on that 😊👍
I have a video showing how to compile the mpm firmware. It probably shows how to flash too. But it’s really easy:
Google multi protocol module firmware download. Get the correct firmware and drop it in the firmware folder on your radio sd card. Turn radio on and go to file browser. Long press the mpm firmware file and click flash internal module. Your model may have to have the mpm turned on….I don’t recall.
@@RCVideoReviews thank you for all your help 😊👍
well have a qx7, just received the mk2 elrs version, has 2.6 on it, is buddy the way to go or should i load by companion ?? i also need to find a video on just the tx16 to get too know it and how to navigate. like im starting over lol. no models set up nothing starting from scratch. will put in my quads etc , start fresh be using qx7 on other sti quads but i am going to switch to elrs on 3 right off. then go matec on gosh 10 planes in the future lol got about 50 lol little at a time . oh here i go all new stuff lol. guess learn the radio first sure is pretty , put in gimbal leds last night . subbed a while back you do great vids and explain things clearly , thanks for the content
You can't flash Edge with companion. My preferred method to flash is via the bootloader shown in this video: ruclips.net/video/LItyAkJlcdU/видео.html
Great tutorial men it looks so easy that for sure it's going to be my next project thank u.
Good luck!
Excellent video John. Followed it step by step with brand new SD card. But I get to the add anew device I get a weird connection protocol, not the STM32 Bootloader. Then can’t go any further.
Please let the EdgeTX team know by opening an issue: github.com/EdgeTX/edgetx/issues/new/choose
You can also use the bootloader method here: ruclips.net/video/LItyAkJlcdU/видео.html
Thanks for your responses John. I’ll do both of these. Jim
So i managed to update the firmware to 2.8.1 but when I have to select my SD card I am unclear which one i am selecting - the one with "firmware.bin / .txt" or the "USB DRIVE" thats populated with folders already? I am using a tx16s - unsure how many internal storage devices it has, or if im selecting the wrong one? It says to select the the folder with nothing in it - but then you're folder as items in it ?
Well, you've convinced me to update from 2.5
I'm on 2.6 across the board. Seems fine to me. I think they've reached production ready status on EdgeTX at this point.
I keep getting an error message that says " device does not have any dfu interface " how do I fix
Great video! Question though, what size and class SD card do you use in your tx16s?
Usually stock. There’s nothing wrong the the stock 256MB card. The radio USB interface itself is the limiting factor to speed. i.e. Doesn’t help to put fast cards in.
i want to add files to the SD Card - do i add these files (BW128x64), (ISRM -X_2.1.9) and (FW-ARCHER-2.1.14) thru the PC interface (USB Storage (SD) ) to the FIRMWARE directory?
and watch putting card into radio, lol mine has room enough to miss SD card slot and fell inside radio lol, no problem getting out if you have correct screw drivers
Thank you very much for this clear and helpful explanation. I will flash it to my radiomaster and actually I want to see how much difference it will make in Liftoff flights first?
It won't change how the transmitter operates external to the transmitter.
Mine can't open the USB device. yes i selected STM32 BOOTLOADER.
As C C asked. If I'm still on opentx 2.3x, will this update smoothly to Edge 2.6? So many changes have happened I've just left the RM16s off to the side collecting dust.
I want to know this, too.
I just ran an experiment. I converted a radio back to OTX 2.3.14, added a model, and converted to Edge. The process really hasn't changed much from the beginning with the exception Edge will convert your modelxx.bin files to *.yml files and you will lose widgets and pages from the model.
This has been the case from the start. You will have to reconfigure widgets/model pages. The rest of your models should translate cleanly.
Just responded to the original question.
for those who can't get the STM32 Bootloader: download and run the impulserc driver fixer
You sir are a legend thankyou so much !
Thanks for this very informative! One question: I’m in 2.7.0 now and 2.7.1 has dropped today. I wonder if I make a backup, then leave all the files in the SD as is, will the buddy update/replace all the necessary files? I know model and radio folder won’t have a problem, but I also have a few lua scripts (e.g betaflight which also have a folder in the root). I would be nice to not have to set up all the scripts again! Thanks
You can just flash the firmware. You don't really need to do anything with the sd card contents on a maintenance release. This revision is mainly bug fix stuff.
@@RCVideoReviews ok thanks!
You’re welcome.
Mine always says unable to flash on the 3rd step. It’s not the cable or drivers either
That's why I made this video: ruclips.net/video/LItyAkJlcdU/видео.html
You saved the models, how do we access them? Also how does it handle Crossfire? Thanks, very informative and this will probably push me over the edge to install EdgeTX.
In that models directory was my models.yml file which acts as an index (directory) listing of my models. The models just show up with that file and the model files in the MODELS directory. It handles Crossfire fine. I've been on EdgeTX with my quads using Crossfire for quite a while now.
@@RCVideoReviews Thanks, do you set up Crossfire the same way as with OpenTX?
Great info, thanks! I do have a question - WHY would EdgeTX works and provide us such hard work? Who pay them? How they benefit of all those 10 of thousands hours of hard and brilliant work? I think it worth a video of its own - explain how capitalists Americans give so much for nothing? I can never repay those people for all the joy they put in my life.
The way they explain it is that they're doing it for themselves because they like doing it and they donate the outcome to the community. FYI: Most of the developers I've met on this project are not American. German, Polish, British, Slavic, and Irish so far.
Hi John. Thank you for this video. At the moment I'm running openTx and I will for sure jump to EdgeTx. Just one question before beginning the process : once the radio is flashed I just have to copy my models I have backed up into the Model directory of the radio ? Regards. Thierry
You can leave the models directory on your card. When you first start EdgeTX, it will convert them to yaml. Just make sure you keep a backup copy of the entire card in the event something goes wrong.
@@RCVideoReviews Great !!! Thank you for your answer and your videos. Keep safe. Thierry
I'm now running EdgeTx but it took some time because I had troubles with Windows 10. The Buddy did not show the "STM32BOOTLOADER" but only a device called "0x8087:0x0A2B". Windows10's bad behaviour with drivers...... I had to download "ZADIG.EXE", launch it, plug the radio without power, go to "Options", "List all devices", select "STM32BOOTLOADER" and click on install. Once this had been done, the buddy has been able to make it's job. Hope this helps
@@ThLDQ This did it for me. Thank you.
Thank you for this.
My pleasure!
Impressive tutorial video, thanks for sharing. Just one question, could I still restore all of my previous models by copying back the radio and models into the new sd card content? Since it is quite tiring to set up all of my models again, thanks in advance.
Yes you can.. I upgraded from 2.5 to 2.6 a few days ago and all my models and settings copied over perfectly on SD card. Just paste models/radio folders into new SD contents
Yes, back up your previous cards contents and copy over MODELS and RADIO folders.
@@nemocheerio i am having an issue when updating 2.6 sd card content, when i seleted the sd card folder, selected sd card version and radio model, nth can do next, all button dimmes
@@marcography I'm sorry I don't exactly understand. My best advice is to look up RC Video Review's video called "EdgeTX • How-To Migrate from OpenTX to EdgeTX and back to OpenTX". It has all the steps to back up your current card and install EdgeTX from the beginning. Once you understand all the steps and why you are doing them, you should be able to figure any problems out.
@@nemocheerio actually i have upgrade my radio a lot of time just this is my first time to use buddy, it's kinda cool anx easy to use just i encountered an issue when update sd card content via buddy, updated the sd content as old way, thanks for your help mate
Can you install Edgetx on a brand new SD card this way and keep you original Opentx card. Great video they always help
If you want. It’s pretty easy to copy the SD card to your desktop though. Either way.
Two 👍👍up! Does this method work for a radio that is still on Open TX to switch to Edge? Or only if you already have Edge TX and are just updating your firmware.
It uses DFU mode. So it doesn’t matter what’s on the radio ahead of flashing.
Hi John. Is there a way to reorder the model list either in the radio or with the Edge Companion? Thank you
You can edit the radio.yml file manually to reorder. That’s the only convenient way I know. I’ve played around with selective duplicate and delete. That’s like playing the slider puzzle game though.
@@RCVideoReviews Thank you . I will give that a try, That is funny you said that bout the sliding puzzle. I started duplicating models in the order I wanted them, and then was going to delete the ones above it. It is exactly like that sliding puzzle hahahaha. Hopefully they can make it a direct operation in an update. Thank you for the quick response.
Erasing
Could not erase existing firmware. while trying to flash
I've heard that from a few people. Use the bootloader method in this video ruclips.net/video/LItyAkJlcdU/видео.html
on tx16s is there a way to have a .wav file to play on startup with edgetx?
SOUNDS\en\SYSTEM\hello.wav plays on startup.
john cool , question: if you have special script on your script file do you need to import from b.up ?
This is a bit more of a tricky question than you might think.
1) PERSONALLY - I don't like updating the SD card without getting rid of the old contents. So FOR ME--I backup my models, images, and logs, then I erase the card. Next I install new SD Card Contents, then I restore my models, images, and logs.
2) You don't necessarily have to go through all of that. The SD Card tool on Buddy will either overwrite or not change files that don't need to be changed. I go through what I go through to avoid potential version related issues.
If you go through the same process I do, yes, you will want to restore your script from a backup.
@@RCVideoReviews ok clear
Hi, Do you have to convert your handset to edge before you can use this, I still have Opentx installed on mine. Will this also update the multi protocol module as well??
This process will install Edge on top of Edge or OpenTX. Doesn’t matter what’s on the radio. It does not update the multi module.
@@RCVideoReviews , Thankyou very much. Keep up the great video.
Hi John , just one question by updating through the browser is there any options for choosing no heli etc?
Not yet. That's one of the features they intend to implement with Buddy--realtime compile options.
@@RCVideoReviews that would improve things for sure, all the best John
if i make new card,do i have to do the image thing like in raspberry pie?
I'm not sure I understand your question "image thing".
These expensive transmitters are nice, but none of them allow you to record your control inputs.
edgetx buddy says
Connecting
Could not connect to DFU interface
Error
Failed to execute 'open' on 'USBDevice': Access denied.
Do you see STM Bootloader in the add device box?
I know the Edge team enough to know Buddy works. I just flashed my production TX16s with the same 2.8.5 firmware it already had, so I'm 100% certain your issue is related to your pc, your USB driver, your cable, your browser, or a hardware or procedure fault.
Make sure on TX16s you plug-in on the top of the radio while the radio is off. Select add device, then you MUST see STM Bootloader in the list. If not, stop there and figure it out. Once that is seen, it should flash correctly--mine does.
@@RCVideoReviews yes while the radio is off I connected it to my computer and my computer detects it.
Initially device manager had a yellow triangle so I got drivers from windows update installed and the triangle went away so the computer should detect it without a problem now so I don't know why edgetx buddy gave such error.
BTW it's RM TX12MKII
can Edge by loaded onto a brand new transmitter that I just purchased with out any models being loaded into the transmitter?
thanks in advance.
Carl
As long as it is on the supported transmitter list, yes.
Is there any advantage to doing the flash this way vs just dropping the new firmware into the firmware folder and then just powering into the bootloader? Because that is just a drag and drop, power off, power on to bootloader and then hit enter.
6 of one...
Half dozen of the other
Does the touch screen need to be activated?
Replied to the same question on another video.
"no sd card" straight after flash complete, any idea ho to fix my jumper t lite
I would probably take the SD card out of the radio and connect direct to PC--see if it shows up that way. Also, make 100% sure you flashed the correct firmware. If you have the correct firmware, and your SD card checks out on the PC, flash back to what you had and see if it works. If it does, you need to open an issue on the EdgeTX github.
@RC Video Reviews thanks for reply, so without the Sd card inserted using edge tx buddy bricks the radio. I found then an SD card but it was only NTFS or exFAT compatible, so that didn't work either. After some more searches found an old 16gb FAT32 and like a miracle it worked. But yeah without an SD card it will totally brick and loose completely the software showing No SD Card on flashing completion and it cannot reboot from bootloader either as it shows directory empty. Thanks for you videos as well it helped with setting the radio up.
"without an sd card it will totally brick"
That's not entirely correct. The firmware isn't written to the SD card, it's written to the a chip on the mainboard. So without the SD card, the radio may not work correctly, but it's not "bricked" either. Usually a reference to "bricked" means a corrupted firmware write requiring more advanced measures to recover. It's actually VERY challenging to actually brick these radios. And I have a video for that as well: ruclips.net/video/H9_sxXY_K-8/видео.html
What happened to your initial SD card is the more interesting question to me. FYI You can format SD cards using Fat32 in Windows which EdgeTX can read.
Lack of SD card or lack of SD card formatted with FAT32 would certainly result in some issues for the radio. Being "bricked" isn't one of them.
@RC Video Reviews I'm not an expert, definitely you know it better, so thanks
Update with no problem but models did not convert to yml. Is there something I missed?
When I've tested the update from versions prior to yaml and from opentx, it converts.
Do you see your models in the model select screen?
@@RCVideoReviews None. I had 25 models set up and it still shows them as bin file not yml when access via USB.
@@RCVideoReviews Also is there a 2.6 companion? Can't seem to find the link but I see it mentioned on github
Bottom of this page are all the 2.6 Companion options github.com/EdgeTX/edgetx/releases/tag/v2.6.0
You might want to hop on EdgeTX Discord and ask them. I've not had a failure to convert, so uncharted territory for me.
You see NO .yml files in \MODELS?
@@RCVideoReviews Just 1 model1.yml and models.yml. Thanks for your help. I flashed back to 2.5 and everything is fine. Enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.

Hi Richard.
Is the buddy better way to flash edgetx than the sd card flash method
I prefer the bootloader/SD card method because it is 100% reliable and is faster than any other method.
@@RCVideoReviews ok I’ll try that method I thought the buddy via web browser was the easier method for people who have hard time using a computer for cases like this
