    If you're updating to 2.9 make sure you delete the sounds folder as he does in the video before copying over the new one. Otherwise you'll have a full sd card most likely. Thanks for the great video! Helped me get it done quickly so I can get back to flying.

    Unbelievably competent guide to getting the latest software on your tx16. This has to be THE ddefinitive guide to recovering a bricked radio. The only possible improvement would be to show your mouse movements on screen a bit more slowly for those of us who are by this time in unfamiliar terrirory. But hey, this is why we have pause and repeated playback available eh? Well done and thanks a million. You have a new subscriber - RESPECT !

    This is an excellent guide, and I followed step by step. Unless it's me, and I missed something. It didn't include how to update the bootloader itself to 2.8. Besides that, it's great. For anyone wondering To flash the bootloader Hit SYS, select your firmware folder, select the same firmware you flashed in the Bootloader mode, and Flash Bootloader. Thanks for making the videos!

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  11 месяцев назад

      Since an EdgeTX bootloader is required to install EdgeTX, and this video is how to upgrade EdgeTX from 2.x to 2.8, I went with the assumption the viewer already figured out how to flash a bootloader and since it's really not necessary to enable any features or the flashing of later versions of firmware, it wasn't necessary for the video.

    Hi John, I'm really late to the RadioMaster party and purchased a TX16S MkII 4in1 a couple months ago from Grayson Hobby GA. I was able to pick it up in person and when they were giving me the run down. They mentioned you and your RC Video Reviews being the best most comprehensive info out there! Well, IMO they were right because you walked me through Companion and upgrading EdgeTX to Flying Dutchman with not one error. I setup my 1st airplane using your video configuring the S6R w/ 3-axis stabilization. It took a little bit to get to the right menu places in the EdgeTX vs the OpenTX videos, but it worked out find. I'm finding my way around much easier now and have been tweaking the radio with some of your snippets so, I feel better having my 1st successful Airplane flight a couple weeks later. All that being said; I can not find the video where you mentioned A Volume boost "loader" by dropping another sound file into the SD folder. I thought it was mentioned during the Companion install or the EdgeTX update, but I went back to review and can not find it.... Appreciate the help and enjoy your coffee! Regards - Keith aka Simages

      Hey Keith, Glad the content is helping you get along with your new radio. You made a great choice. Regarding your question: "Volume boost loader by dropping another sound file into the SD folder."
      I don't know about any volume boost file that will turn up the volume. What I do know is that the shipping version of Edge on the Radiomaster TX16S MKII used audio files that weren't processed correctly. You can get the stock/processed files here: github.com/EdgeTX/edgetx-sdcard-sounds/releases/tag/v2.8.0

    Wooo I thought I bricked it. Followed this exactly. It froze up about 80% into writing firmware. It wouldn’t respond to anything. I gave it a half hour. So I disconnected the battery. When pressing power it cycled the 1-6 flight mode lights several times and then nothing. So I used the boot loader log in method and it took me into the write menu. Followed the steps again and it worked the second time. 😂 I’m calling it a night and I’ll pick this back up in the morning. I see I have the Dutchman on board v2.8.4 - the firmware file name changes and by this version it’s name is ; TX16s-da28e35.bin
    Once again , thank you so much. I use your videos exclusively. They’re absolutely the best on RUclips for the TX16s

    Just want to say thanks for all you did in your videos to make this possible. I followed your steps to a T, and it worked out perfectly, so far lol. Now updated to the 2.8. It may have been mentioned and may have not been. But what I did was made a copy to my desktop of the 2.7 sd card just in case something was to go wrong, then followed your video and put all the new contents to a new separate sd card and used that card to write the new firmware. So not only do I have a copy on my desktop, also have the original sd put in a safe place. Either way, it worked and I appreciate it.

    V helpful video John - just thought I'd share this - in my case, following the upgrade to 2.8.0, my TX16S radio defaulted to Mode 1 having previously been in Mode 2 - change mode back to 2 in Radio Settings. A clue to this having happened is 'Throttle Warning' at power up .... the mode change changes order only of Output channels as far as I can tell...

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  Год назад

      That sounds to me like your radio settings file got corrupted and was reverted to stock. I bet if you look on your sd card you might see radio_error.yml
      In any case, once the radio boots up and you change it back, you should be good. I've flashed more copies of Edge this side of the EdgeTX team than just about anybody I know and I haven't seen that happen. So odd problem.
      Reduced the risk of corrupt radio.yml ruining your day by using a checksum to detect file corruption (i.e. due to faulty SD card, battery going flat in the middle of writing to the SD card). If the settings are corrupt, the radio will now warn you, automatically rename the file to radio_error.yml, and prompt you to recalibrate your analog inputs (sticks, 6POS, sliders, etc) so you have working settings. You can then examine the file later to find out what went wrong. If you want to manually edit the file, there is a new parameter at the top of the file (manuallyEdited) that you can change so the error check is skipped once (see #1481).

    • @richardcox9711
      @richardcox9711 Год назад

      @@RCVideoReviews Can't see a radio_error.yml file inside RADIO folder on TX16S SD card. Only radio.yml, models.txt and README.txt. I think I was prompted to recalibrate sticks and sliders but not sure - that may have been Ardupilot Mission Planner that prompted that. Anyway one of my models has a two switch (SF/SE) 6-position set up and that works OK following upgrade. The manuallyEdited parameter has value 0 in radio.yml. I will be v cautious with first flight of each model and be prepared for re-trimming, copy trims to subtrim again etc. Thanks for response.

For months after I upgraded to EdgeTX, I had touch screen. Radiomaster did a great job of repairing some problems I had. One thing they did was install a new SD card and all of it's contents. John, excellent stuff as usual.
    I just upgrade to 2.8.4. !! 🙂
    .
    Quick questions:
    - If I download multiple sound files like Sarah, Libby, etc. The last folder I load on my sd card erases the previous one so it appears I cannot have more than one on the sd card at the same time or could I give them different folder name like "Sarah" instead of "sound"??
    - Is there a SD size limit I can insert in the TX16?
    - You also have mm-stm-serial-aetrv1.3.3.7.bin, why not used that more recent file? This is actually the one I have on my radio internal RF???
    - What is the edge 2.8 companion that we installed used for??
    THANKS!!!
    .
    Last is a quick comment.
    In a previous video you showed us how to set the timer to turn "off" the radio: Immediate, 1sec, 5sec etc.
    I have just played with that a bit and it appears that the set-up also affect the time it take to turn "on" the radio.
    .
    Cheers!
    a.

    John:
    I have several Radiomaster & Jumper transmitters that have never been exposed to Edge Tx, but I have decided it is time to install this software on them for the first time.
    My question is, can I follow your instructions in this video verbatim to fully install Edge Tx ver 2.8 and expect it to run on them without special steps or instructions?
    Your inciteful, clear, and logical videos are phenomenally useful to everyone in this hobby, especially those of us without your wonderful talent for understanding everything you provide training on like this video.
    Please keep up what you are doing.
    Now I'm looking forward to exploring Edge Tx on my Radiomaster and Jumper radios!
    Respectfully, - Jim Eastep

      Jim, I'd like to tell you damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead; however, as I'm sure you're aware, life is imperfect. Back up your SD card first. Follow the steps. You should be fine just like the video shows. It's all done on video to show what to expect.
      If you have to revert:
      Put the original firmware on the SD card in the /FIRMWARE folder. Boot into bootloader. Flash the original firmware. Copy your backup to the SD card, and you are 100% back to where you started.
      Appreciate the comment. No guarantees. Also, no trick videography.

    Thanks for the video. I am concerned about build stability. I'm just getting back into the hobby, but have a couple of thousand dollar plus airplanes. I want to fully depart from Spectrum but am concerned about the continuous development cycle of Edge TX. Can you comment? How long should I wait before adopting a new major release? Should I wait for a couple of minor versions to release? How often is the control portion of the code base touched?
    Thanks for the help and videos.

      @malte9999 Год назад +1

      There are no more than one or two minors before a new major release, normally.
      Nightlies are sometimes unstable, release candidates normally aren't and releases should just work. Some people have used 2.8 nightlies and release candidates for weeks without issues, though I would advise against using nightlies for flying without extensive testing beforehand. Generally speaking, EdgeTX is pretty stable and ready to be used.

    • @RCVideoReviews

      I fly 700 class helicopters, 85" Extra NG, 73" Slick, 78" Edge 540, 2x500 class helicopters, and EVERYTHING else I own on EdgeTX.
      I do not worry about stability. I flew 2.7.1 since May 9th, 2022 with not a single control issue.
      When it comes to installing new major releases-- I won't lie about it, I wait a few weeks. We don't need to be lemmings if you don't want to be involved in testing. Not everybody does.
      That said, you can install 2.7.1, take comfort in the fact it is as reliable as firmware gets and never update again if you choose.
      I can't respond to how often the control portion of the code is touched because I'm not a developer and I don't make guesses like that. My channel is about video evidence. If I can't show it/prove it, I don't claim it as fact.
      It's quite possible the "control portion" of the code changes nightly--but I doubt it. I know Edge has made a great deal of changes under the hood. Just how much of that influences the control loop of the radio....I don't know.
      What I do know, is I would take a Radiomaster TX16s MKII, EdgeTX 2.7.1, and Express LRS 3.0 over any other RF tech you could GIVE ME right now. Hands down, full stop.

    I am a subscriber and I followed your video. When I go into bootloader and plug in the USB, it shows USB connected, but it states "E: is not accessible. If I turn off the radio and turn it back on then plug in the USB, E does show the SD content. I do not want to proceed in fear of damaging the radio. Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks, J.R.

    I was coming from 2.7.1. I’m using a Flysky nirvana. It seems like everything worked fine but it won’t update to 2.8. It says it’s flashing and finishes but stays on 2.7.1.

    So good, so confidence inspiring. Thank you! Say, is there a 'best practice' way of updating the radio? As you mentioned in the description, this is the 'old school, manual way' (the way I've always done it) but now it seems it can be done through 'Buddy' and even EdgeTX Companion. Almost too many options. Are the developers pushing towards one preferred way - for example 'Buddy'? Would love your thoughts on that if you get a chance. Thanks again!!
