Nice presentation John. The EdgeTX guys are great on getting things done. Each version improves and makes it easier for us rookies to use all the benefits. Keep up the good work.
Really great summary of new features John. I love the way you compare the differences from 2.8 so clearly. That “Mute if no sound” appears to be a squelch function to stop electrical noise coming through the speakers when no sound is being played. Issue #3669? Strange why they have made it switchable. Congrats to the devs who continue to do such great work.
Thanks for this, John. Couldn't wait any longer, so installed the RC1 version. All good so far. Enabled the heli tab for one flybar heli that I still have and hadn't programmed in yet. It was fun working out how the flybar heli is setup.
@@RCVideoReviews very slight improvement thanks John think it’s gonna be a few months yet , Meanwhile I’ll be tuning in still , gonna try the sim in a few days see how i get on in the meantime brought a 3d printer so that’s kept me busy really enjoying it I’ve printed folding antennas, huge pilots fc holders , boy whilst stuck on the couch You can’t half order a lot of stuff ! 😂 ,
"If you have noise or buzzing when using high RF power outputs and no audio is playing, there is now a mute option for most radios - see #3703, #3710" is probably what you are looking for, for the mute option i'm guessing
I'm guessing "circular cutout" is a virtual cyclic ring, mainly of interest to heli pilots. It used to be used on flybarred helis to allow full cyclic travel without binding in the corners.
Please do cover the joystick setup. I just upgraded from 2.5 to 2.8 instead of 2.9 because I read that the Joystick HID mode stopped working for some after updating to 2.9. I use my radio for MS flight sim and I've gotten quite used to my controls. 10/10 on the overview very thorough.
Great video. I kind of preferred the more data dense screens, but they are much easier to touch, now on the tx16s. I'm used to fat fingering everything, like this message I'm typing with my stupidly large thumbs on this tiny pixel 5
FYI to anyone upgrading from OpenTX. The upgrade messed up my telemetry, I had to go to the Telemetry tab and delete all, then, discover new sensors. I don't know if it got messed up in the openTX to Edge 2.8 or Edge 2.8 to 2.9 but it is easy to rectify, if you know what to do. Also make a note of any Telemetry you have in you top bar of your widgets. Like RSSI or BATT or CELLS. You will have to reprogram them, and they still might not work until you delete all telemetry and discover them again.
Sorry if this question doesn’t relate to the subject of this video but I’m trying to find out what size pictures need to be to put them on the SD Card.I am having a real hard time figuring this out. Thanks in advance.
Hello Mr. RC Video Reviews, I have the following problem. After updating to INAV 7 and updating my Radiomaster TX16S, I no longer have an MSP connection. The same is with a Speedy Bee 405 Wing and a Matek F405 TE. Hope you can give me some good advice. Many thanks Didi
Number of RC depends on what they find. Once they put a release candidate out they're kind of counting on people to load it, find issues, and report back. Fewer issues = fewer RCs. More issues = more RCs. So it kind of depends on what people report.
Hi John, out of interest have they added the ability to scroll up as well as down. Say if you are trying to select a track in special functions, as this can be a pain if you are looking for something that begins with "Z"
Thank you for explaining things so clearly. I upgraded to the latest ver. One question my aileron is now my rudder and rudder my aileron. Did i download something wrong or can this be switched? Thx.
Thanks for your videos... very informative. Here's a question I've yet to find an answer to. When I migrated (recently) from OpenTx on a Jumper T16 to EdgeTx on a Radiomaster TX16S MkII I could get the yaml files converted for the models, but the Widget / screens for each model did not port over and I had to resetup every model's screen/widgets. I tried landing on EdgeTx v2.7 and also v2.9 following the steps in your other vids. Is there a way that you can think of to port the widgets/screen settings for each model to the new radio/firmware? Thanks in advance.
It should be a relatively seamless upgrade, but really, you're the only person who can make that decision. Keep in mind, this is still a Release Candidate, so not final.
after I updated RM TX12MKII from EdgeTX 2.8.5 to 2.9.1 the radio makes a static sound all the time when turned on, even when both internal and external RF is disabled, do you know why?
Hi there, is there a road map to 3.0? I'm on old opentx and crossfire. I'm keen to jump to 2.4 elrs and edgetx but wonder if its better to wait until 3.0 so I won't have to undergo major updates...thanks
An exellent video. But let me ask a question: There is a buton for heli again - you cut it out during the video. Do 2.9. have the buton for heli agin or did you use a compiled firmware for having? Do you have software for heli on edgetx. My problem is I just updated on 2.8. and no heli can be used. Please can you help me - I am so happy with edge and don`t want to downgrade to Opentx1 Thanks for your answer. Andreas
So I've got a x9D+ running OpenTX that has all my models on it. Did I hear you right that I can connect this to EdgeTX companion, load my models, and it'll convert them? Then all I have to do is connect my EdgeTX radio and download the models to it?
I've been off of OpenTX for almost two years, so I haven't confirmed it myself, but yes, that's how it should work. Try it. It can't hurt to give it a try.
I see in the edgetx github two different milestones or versions: 2.8.5 and 2.9.0 RC1, both of them under development. I an confused. 2.9.0 will include 2.8.5?
2.9RC1is a release candidate. That means no more updates other than fixes. 2.8.5 has some other changes going on. For production use, stick with 2.9.0RC1.
I really need help, I am trying to setup 3d throttle on inav quads or even ardupilot, I sincerely ask you John to do such one as there seems to be thousands of other people trying to do this also
RC1 means "Release Candidate 1" So it is not a final version BUT the developers have stopped implementing new features and expect this to be near the final state. So it's really up to the individual if they're cowboy enough to use it at the field. You can wait for the cowboys to find the issues, and sit tight with 2.8.4, or, you can cowboy up, install it and see if you can help find any bugs/issues. It is 100% up to you. Personally, I wouldn't fly it with my expensive planes. I would fly it with planes that are more durable like my TH Edge or my Crash Test Hobby Grim Reaper. I also usually wait just a few days before flashing to allow the real cowboys to make their initial field reports.

What about Radiomaster Boxer? Will it be game changer for us as well or it will be small improvements here and there?
Funny you ask: ruclips.net/video/gKQeohGMTLk/видео.html

I don’t think so. You should make a feature request on GitHub for that. I agree-it’s needed.
@RCVideoReviews OK, I will John!

Widgets have never survived migration from OTX to ETX from day one. You have to re-do them.

after I updated RM TX12MKII from EdgeTX 2.8.5 to 2.9.1 the radio makes a static sound all the time when turned on, even when both internal and external RF is disabled, do you know why?
I do not.
Does it revert to normal behavior if you flash 2.8.5 again? If so and if this is repeatable, you need to open an issue on the edgetx github.
@@RCVideoReviews thanks for your reply.
I flashed it with 2.8.5 and the noise went away. It is repeatable. I'm not familiar with github

2.9 uses "enabled features" which includes the ability to turn the heli tab on and off in global or model settings.
