Excellent video John! You make it so easy to understand even for a raw beginner. Showing the different ways to achieve the same result is very useful too.
RUclips teaches me things :) Thanks for the kind comment.
Im stopping this video 27 seconds in to say thank you already 😂. I can already tell this is exactly what I need! Thanks for your time and knowledge
Glad it was helpful!
Hi, thank you so much for all the hard work you do to disseminate your expertise here on RUclips
I just got my first TX16S today. I have been flying Spektrum for over 10 years and I am transitioning over to TX16S.
Your videos have been absolutely helpful.
Thank you.
I'm a heli guy, but honestly, the more i watch your tutorials and The Lighter Side of RC for builds, is totally getting me interested in planes. Well ok Jets 😎.
I absolutely agreee that you have a great personality for getting informative content out to those that are looking to learn, or are even just curious.
Just what I needed this morning, Flaps are no big deal. Your teaching technique is on point. I will do all I can to help keep you making more of these videos. EDGE TX . Thanks again.
Awesome! Thank you!
Not in to Rc planes but it's always good to learn 👌 from a good teacher 😀.
Thanks 👍
Thank you for the response
You're welcome.
Another great video! Thanks for your hard work, John.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks John. I just ordered the kit and accessories. Perfect kit for trying
different settings .
Cheers
Bob
You're welcome. Your RCVR-2 is cut and waiting for the postman to pick it up tomorrow. Have fun with it.
@@RCVideoReviews thank you John
Thanks John!
Sure thing!
Great video John! Flaps are so handy to use and I love the delay. Also, I have that on all my planes with flops. Take care
Thanks Robert! This one is a one of those basics videos that should see a lot of views over time.
Great video thanks, the curve part was particularly useful for me.
Glad it helped.
thanks, as always it's an excellent and clear explanation
You're quite welcome.
Always a handy video to have sitting about incase, cheers John 👍🙏
Thanks 👍
Thanks!
You bet!
Thank you so much for the very detailed video❤
Most welcome 😊
Hats off !!!!
Thanks!
What about setting up flaperons?
Just got one of your RVCR2s definitely going to be a awesome tool to teach new builders how to set up airplanes.
Oh nice! Hope it serves you well. Turn those rates down to start...
Greate video. Thank you
Glad you liked it!
Great, simple to understand video and love your new visual training aid! Would have liked to see you include how to mix flaps and elevator but I am aware that you did this in a previous (Open TX?) video I believe. Also, I often don’t build flaps into my models but like to program flaperons instead. Would be cool to see how you would do this, as I have had trouble overdriving my servos when flaps are deployed in Edge TX. Thanks a bunch for all you do!
Hey there. Yes, another great video. John did a edgetx vid on mixing flap to elevator recently. ruclips.net/video/nkLhdQdsM7Q/видео.html
i am trying: no flap to ele mix on half flaps but mixing in elevator on full flaps.
so, first flap stage no ele mix but on full flaps.
im stuck there.😂

ruclips.net/video/rcnacDtfs68/видео.html
Those might help. Thanks for the comment.
@@RCVideoReviews Hey John. Thank you. it helped:-)
With some servos it is possible to invert the operating direction allowing you to use a Y cable. This does require some soldering and is probably for more advance tinkerers. If you change the polarity on the servo motor and change the potentiometer two outer wires, leaving center wire alone, you can reverse operations. Maybe this helps someone. I get that you probably may know this already and didn’t want to get into it on this topic.
Thanks for your videos! Great demo.

Good point...
John awesome video! Your videos have helped me like no other’s. In the future can you post a video on how to set up thrust reverse? I have done it extrapolating knowledge from all your previous videos but it would be useful to see how you would do it. Thank you for all the videos; I’ve learned a ton!
Thank u
Welcome
great video helped me alot, can you make video explaining how to make alirons to act as flaps and aliron at the same time?
This should help: ruclips.net/video/NBmz7mI6YgM/видео.html
How about another programming challenge? For normal flight, flaps and ailerons work "normally", flaps work with ailerons for higher roll rates, ailerons and flaps mix with elevator for tight loops, and finally crow, on a slider flaps go down, ailerons go up and still control roll.
I think most of that is in this video: ruclips.net/video/NBmz7mI6YgM/видео.html
Setup is on my discord.
Thanks for offering the 3D printed version of the airplane, I just picked one up
Awesome! It's a handy little tool. Enjoy.
Great content! Please please do a Flaps setup and safe set up for Zorro for beginners!!!
Search the channel. If there's a mix, I've probably done a video on it:
ruclips.net/video/iU05F2r9r5k/видео.html
And I don't use Spektrum gear, so no Spektrum content here.
I invert everything from the output tab for consistency.
Me too.
Yet another good video that makes things pretty clear to understand - thanks. I somewhat got most things regarding helis and planes programming under control ) now but still struggle with the crow mixing and logical switches- is there any chance you would make a updated video on this? I know you have done a video about crow but maybe a updated version? regards
Instead of doing a specific mix video, I've done a couple of these ruclips.net/video/rg_lWiZzsG4/видео.html
The idea is give a fish you feed for a day, teach to fish you feed for a lifetime. I'd recommend watching the generic mix use case videos and when you get through them you should be able to create any mix you want--including crow.
This was wonderfully helpful. Got everything working as taught except, my updated HappyModel EPW6 will not put out a signal on channel 7. Have tried powering down and everything I can think of (servo works fine when swapped with ch 6. Thoughts?
It's a 6ch rx..?
Lol, i guess that would explain it. Misled by all the available pins. With Esc in 1, there were six pin arrays left. @@RCVideoReviews
Thanks for your videos - the best on OpenTX/EdgeTX by a long shot. Could I ask if you've made a flaperon setup video? Particularly around keeping AS3X and Safe functionality on a plane that had y-cable ailerons but now has separate channel ailerons. Grateful for any advice.
Thanks for the comment. I've done quite a few mix videos; unfortunately, there always seems to be one more thing people want to see, so rather than tackling individual mixes, I made this one: ruclips.net/video/rg_lWiZzsG4/видео.html
That video is more about teaching you how to mix than teaching you a specific mix.
I don't use or support Spektrum though, so can't help you there, but if you join our discord (invite link is in the description of every video I post), I'm sure you will get an answer there.
@@RCVideoReviews Thanks - I'll check that out. Thanks again.
Great video, is there a file to be purchased to make the mockup servo positions on that plane stand? Thanks
I don't understand the question.
Hello, TY for your content, I have a programming issue with my F14 Flaps, I can’t get them to go up when wings are in sweep position on switch?
You should join my discord and ask this question there. YT is really not a good format for resolving questions like this. Link is in the description.
How about adding some up elevator when deploying flaps Thanks
ruclips.net/video/rg_lWiZzsG4/видео.html
Great stuff as always. Keep it up!
Thanks. Will do!
How does the flap differential effect takeoff
Always great videos showing all possibilities of this amazing edgetx, thank you John.
Just a comment about best pratices, usually we should stay logical while programming, then in the mix flap should have both the same rate sign (positive or negative depending of the way you want them to move in regards to the switch position) then if one of them doesn't go in the right direction we just need to reverse this servo outputs (because the servo go in the wrong direction). For a simple function like flaps this doen't matter so much, but if you add other function to that flaps for example like aileron (in this case opposite rate sign for them) , then it avoid potential headack at the end. ;o) Also when you check your model setup it's really easier to understand the way it work.
I saw this from some beginers setup, they are loosing their mind, sometimes inverting several times in the mix and in the output, trying by luck to have it working in the right way ;o)
As usual with edgetx several solutions for the same results, but some are better to avoid side effects or troubles.
In my radio, I usually use positive values and invert on outputs. I only bother with inputs when weights or multiple manipulations may be necessary. I don't bother with inputs for simple controls like mode switches or gain knobs.
As a teaching channel, I've found if I don't show alternatives, people with opposing points of view feel or internal best practices tend to argue a point. So by showing multiple methods, the user can choose what works best for them and that's the point. Even while showing multiple methods, I still get comments like yours espousing a preferred approach. It's a no-win situation. So I'll continue to show multiple methods and let the users decide what works for them.
@@RCVideoReviews I really like all your videos, and thanks to you I already learned a lot. For sure I'll never criticized you great job. My comment was only to advice edgetx users that even if there are always several solutions some are more efficiente and avoid disappointement. I already saw poeple on the field giving up their TX16S because they just don't learned enough the basic logical principles...it's just a pity, and give bad arguments to those willing to denigrate this amazing system
I understand....
Thank you for that but can you explain flap setup using one channel and two servos please
Servos have to be mechanically opposed to they both move in the same direction on activation. Usually that means you point the servo gears the same direction--i.e. both gears point left or both point right. If the servos are arranged longitudinally, then both horns point left or both horns point right and the gears are both either are toward the nose or the tail.
i have a question. you may have already covered this but ive yet to find the video. but how would you setup a gyro? i use both fms gyro and spektrum gyro, im leaving my nx8 and trying to learn the tx16s mk2
I don't know anything about Spektrum, but most other gyros (including Reflex v2) use channel 5 for mode. So you can put a switch on channel 5 to change modes. Of course the gyro manufacturers don't standardize here, so you'll have to figure out what pulsewidth enables what mode and either use as-is, invert weights, use curves, or overrides.
Oh, look your test plane again 🤩. Sooo hows the heli version coming along? 🤪 I put an order in, you know, to help your R&D on a heli version. 😏
Setup flaperons under mixes and left inputs alone. Slow down and slow up do not seems to workout, though, I am on version 2.7 (edge). I just don’t see how that would matter when the options are still there. Should I be implementing a solution on inputs?
Kind of surprised you didn't mention anything about using a reverse servo for one of them. That's the way most planes come from the factory and it also allows you to a Y cable so you only have one entry.
Most is subjective. I've been flying for a lot of years and still haven't reversed a servo. Every plane I've had has had the horns in the same direction for flaps. In any case, this video wasn't intended to cover every possible combination, it was about showing how to setup flaps and how to deal with flaps that aren't mechanically moving the same with EdgeTX.
Have one plane on edge tx still debating if its worth the extra effort since I just fly airplanes all dsm
You gotta hug EdgeTX. It's the whip!
Can you tie up elevator with flap movement or does slowing the flaps solves that problem ?
Not sure I understand your question.
❤
Just wondering...can this setup for flaps be used if a gyro is installed (in an elevons setup). Most if not all gyros require there be no custom mixing on the radio/channels.
That's only for the purposes of auto-level. Go ahead and mix your elevons and try it out.
Hello where can I buy this model or a similar one to correctly program a plane with Inave. I'm in Portugal and where I found it for sale, it doesn't ship to Portugal, I would appreciate any help, thank you
Hi, Sorry, I do not ship internationally anymore due to problems with postal services adjusting shipping rates post-sale. The last time I shipped internationally, they came back after the fact and added $24 to my shipping bill. It has happened more than once and is unpredictable. Therefore, I do not ship internationally any longer. I'm sorry. The STL file is available for the 3d printed version on my discord in the #3d-printers channel. Link to discord is in every video I post.
Hi all. Please help me configure Jumper t18 for RS4 Venom🤔
The flight controller does not want to work as it should😭
I don't understand how to set up the radio🤷🏼♂️
Hey mate, Im juet wondering if you've experienced something similar with any of your radios. Im getting extraneous rudder inputs on my radio. When I have the monitor screen open and my throttle is at minimum theres no random input. But as soon as I bring the stick to the centre I get random rudder inputs and I've actually noticed it in flight with a heli. I thought there was something wrong with my gyro as it had symptoms of the tail blowing out. Now I've narrowed it down to my radio I've no idea what could cause it. My only theory so far is my centering springs are too slack. Or there is dirt or fuel around the holofex sensors inside.
I have not seen anything similar on my radios. Are you seeing these random inputs on the channel monitor?
@@RCVideoReviews yes they are on the channel monitor on the rudder channel. But only when the stick is at centre
How much movement are you seeing in microseconds (ppmus). You should join the RCVR discord so you can share pics of what you're seeing.
@@RCVideoReviews okay I will join the discord and share some images. Thankyou
What if you want a flap rate less then 50% in mid switch position?
Use a curve.
@@RCVideoReviews I wil give that a try. Thank you. I am learning EdgeTx and study your videos. So thank you again.
Join discord! You can get really good help there.
You say that for flaps, you don't have to use more than one line, so how do you set up the mid position??? Seems that another line is needed, unless I am missing something.🤔
It's covered in the video @12:18. Did you watch the whole video?
I have an issue, when my SB switch is up, the flaps are pointed upward and not flat
Disconnect linkage and adjust to flat when the horns are full aft.
@@RCVideoReviews Is there any other way to do it? I have a timber x so id like to also program the full span ailerons
Wait, where is the sewing kit link?
:) I got mine from Mrs. RCVR.
