Wow! This is one of the BEST instructional video's I've ever seen on RUclips. Your video is absolutely AMAZING! My TX16S transmitter upgrade worked perfectly. I would've never been able to upgrade my radio to EdgeTX on my own. Thank you very much.
Thanks again for all your hard work. I failed a few times because I did not follow all your steps. Started over and followed everything you did and it works great for me. Thanks.
OK, You have made me believe I can do this. You have made it look very easy, direct and to the point. Hopefully I will have my radio uploaded later this week. Thank You sir.
Hi Mate thanks for this nice Tute I converted Opentx to Edgetx 2.8 today on my Radioking TS18s and it's working great, love the touchscreen it makes my life much easier!! 😁
Great video. I followed the process successfully with edge 2.9.2. Initial startup messages were slightly different, but maybe that's because i did not overlay the edge sg card onto my otx SD. Basically, it did not auto convert the models. It did, however, convert the radio setting like functions. It also had me calibrate the sticks. I restored models successfully from the otx backup.
They removed bin to yml conversion in 2.9. This video explains it ruclips.net/video/NYbOLLoV-GA/видео.html Anyway, sounds like you got it sorted out with an OTX backup.
Just received my TX16s max in the post! I will be following this step by step. Thanks for your concise explanation of the process and making it easy to understand for us dummies!! 👍😁
Just finished the conversion. Thank you for making it so clear. Blown away by your content on EdgeTX so Im officially supporting. Its a deal at twice the price! Happy Thanksgiving.
Nice job John. A very good instructional video to make it easy to switch to EdgeTX. I re-watched the video and you done an excellent job. A little blooper, but heck we are all human. Keep up the good work.
Your videos are outstanding. You have a brilliant, clear way of explaining things and i really appreciate the work you put into it. Question if i may....I have been using a Qx7 radio with OpenTX. I now have my new TX16S running EdgeTX. Is it possible to convert my models? They didn't convert when doing the transfer. Thanks
In EdgeTX Companion, setup both radios. Select your Qx7 read models/settings. Save to a file. Switch radio profile to TX16s, open the Qx7 file, and Companion should prompt you for a conversion. Don't expect a perfect conversion though. If you have hardware on the Qx7 not available on the TX16s, the line(s) may be removed.
Thanks for a very well presented set of instructions. I followed your instructions with ease to upgrade from a very old version of Open TX to the latest version of Edge TX 2.8.3.
Thanks Mate you made the change a complete success, with your help the file management is making sense and if I make a mistake it is easy to fix, I even watched your new INAV for EDGE Tx video and included the INAV scripts at the same time. Keep up the good work!! Happy Flying!!😃
Went great, I think, up until 26:22. Edge Tx looks like it went in, but the "Go" button was not there, it said push any key to skip, and None of my models went across. Can I still do the conversion. I also have both .bin and .yml files in the models folder.
You can’t go direct from OpenTx to EdgeTX 2.9. The bin conversion code was removed in 2.9. You have to flash 2.8.x first. Allow the conversion. The. Flash 2.9.
From OpenTX flash EdgeTX 2.8.x. Reboot radio so that it turns on. The conversion will take place. Once the conversion is over, you can flash EdgeTX 2.9.x+ anytime.
I'm just getting in to the hobby, I bought a Spektrum NX8 radio, just because my 1st heli was a Blade, and because every video I watched, everyone seemed to be using Spektrum gear. I wish I had know about these types of radio with multi protocols on them. When I was looking for which radio to buy I knew it had to be DS2/DSMX, and I did look at the Radiomaster TX16S, but someone I missed that it was multi protocol and could be used with DSMX stuff. Don't get me wrong the NX8 is a nice radio, but I think if I'd know that I could have used the TX16S on my Blade heli, I would have got it. I've ordered a DSMX satellite unit, but I can see my buying a TX16S in the future, the NX8 is quite old tech TBH, like it's not touchscreen and doesn't have USB C, which the TSX16s does.
Well I took the plunge. everything worked great even though the firmware I downlaoded was the next revision which made my radio look a little different than yours. Thank you for holding my hand through this I was scared to death and couldn't have done it without you. Only glitch I had was for some reason one of my models just disapeard and I can't seem to get it back even though it shows up in the models file. must of hit a wrong butten. LOL
Good news it works its a t18 radio and it froze during the my first try. had to unplug them turn on in bootloader mode and try again and presto it worked great., thanks
Hey so so helpful and thanks for all your efforts. I have a probably dumb question - I've bought a jumper t15 that is on edgetx. Is there any simple way to import just the models from open tx into edge. I don't need to flash the jumper t15 bit just need the 3 drone models. Is there a simple way to import them rather than flashing the jumper t16 pro to edge first. Cheers Adam
Companion would probably be the most straightforward route. OpenTX is getting to be long in the tooth and the conversion will do nothing but get more painful as time goes on.
Thank you for the video! I've been on edge TX for a week and happy i switched over! I did not transfer over all the lua scripts in the process and now wondering if i need to set my tx16s to dfu mode for it to read them? or do i just simply drag over?
You only need dfu or bootloader to flash the firmware. Card contents can be changed by putting the card in the pc as shown in the video or by plugging in to the top port and selecting usb storage mode.
Hey a quick question do I need to get my hands on a touch screen mod? The reason I ask is that I got the Gen 1 of the Radiomaster TX16S from back in 2020 in which they offered a touch screen update to buy on it's on own back then. Fantastic job on the very insightful video.
Thanks for the comment. Glad you enjoyed the video. Personally, I'm not up-to-speed on the process to switch from non-touch to touch as I started with touch. So I've never looked into it. I *think* all you have to do is buy the touch replacement screen which should be available just about everywhere that sells TX16s parts. I would encourage you to hop on my discord (invite in description of every video I post) and ask there. People more familiar with the process should be able to confirm.
Hi Great video and thank you. I did run into a very frustrating problem with the model conversions,. I brought a new MK1 T16S for a friend with OpenTX loaded. Followed the Vid exactly but when I downloaded the models from the Taranis running OpenTX it simply would not find any of the models to convert despite them all being there. After hours a messing around and trying OpenTX Companion and EdgeTX Companion, and a rest, I simply downloaded the Models off OpenTX and saved them as a backup file then as your later video shows using EdgeTX I opened that file. It then asked to convert them and even though this was the second attempt it converted them and all is ok. Just as a matter of interest Ive been running EdgeTX on my T16S and Jumper T16 since the first full stable version with no problems.
Hello John. I followed your instructions in the conversion process and everything worked flawlessy except the touch screen is not working. Its not a game changer but I was wondering if I slighted something. Great instructional video. Thanks Jason
Has your touch screen ever worked? What version of firmware did you come from? There is a special/global function that can turn off touch. You might need to check through both to make sure you're not using that function. Otherwise, go to system->hardware->analogs and see if that registers screen touchs. If you don't have a function disabling the screen, and if the analogs screen registers touch, you'll need to open a ticket on the EdgeTX github.
Nice instructions! The problem with widget non-conversion stops me cold in my tracks. I have 17 models all with custom widgets, and to go through the trouble of re-doing all the widgets would be a burden. If they can figure out how to save the widgets, I would be all-in. Cheers.
Hi Russ, I believe that you do not even delete your sounds folder in the clean-up of the SD card when John is doing the SD card clean-up and if you should delete them Yes just copy your Amber sounds file back from your "Saved" SD card content instead of the new SD card sound file. I hope this helps and Happy Flying!
Thank you for the video. I completed the installation of Black Pearl and binded a receiver but it doesn't work. The transmitter shows no movement on the Channel Monitor. What did I fail to do or do wrong? The same receiver worked when the T16S was on OpenTX.
1) Are you sure it's bound correctly? i.e. Get any telemetry? 2) Did you look at your mixer and verify you have inputs assigned to channels? 3) If the channel monitor showing nothing on Mix or Output or both?
@@RCVideoReviews Thanks so much for the reply! !. When I plug in a servo, it moves to center so I believe the receiver is bound. 2. I believe it has what you said. I tried changing the right column item but no success. 3. No movement on Mix or Output. I will see if our club has an expert or if my Aloft Hobbies book helps.
Followed video as you went along and for some reason when installing the firmware i got 90 percent then it just stopped there... What should i do. Also great videos.
Great video done by great teacher. My question is about new model setting . How can we create new model in edge version, like in open tx , very simple way just to select which channel we want , I mean can we use that way in edge version?? Pls guide how can we use that wizard in edge ?
Don't use wizards--just chose the option to create a new model and Edge will setup a new model with 4 channels in your specified default mode. Learn to start with a basic 4 channel model and forget about wizards, you will thank me later.
The process to switch from OTX to ETX doesn't really change much from one revision to the next. The biggest hurdle now is the latest EdgeTX 2.9.0 removes the bin to yaml model conversion meaning it requires Companion. Otherwise, the process of flashing is the same.
Change needed: Due to fact that there are now several sounds (Voices) folders available you need to add one more step. The procedure here will add a folder to the sounds folder that is named en_us_voice name. You need to rename this folder to simply en
Great video, but one important information is missing. Do I have to rebind my models? I have a hole lot of models, guess about 24 and don't want to bind them all again
Hello John, pardon if this has been covered, is there a listing/way to determine radio hardware compatibility before attempting this? I have a 1st gen Horus x10s express currently running otx2.3.14 thx!
Great job on the video. I have one question. I noticed that you also downloaded the Multi Protocol Module firmware, but, I do not think you installed it in this video. Do I need to update it separately? Thank you...
Yes, from the radio file browser, navigate to the folder where you unzipped it (\firmware is what I use), highlight the MPM binary, long press jog dial and select flash internal.
Great video, awesome detailed explanation. For the sdcard content, which one do i need for a black and white screen RM TX12, Taranis 7 or 9? Thank you for making these kinds of videos.

Was just curious why the edge tx wizard loader will only let have 8 channel to choose from, I know you can just go into inputs and mixer pages to set up the channels you need, but was just curious about the wizard loader lack of 16 channels.
As others have reported - this works 100%! my issue now is channel mapping and for some reason my radio now thinks the throttle is on the right stick (hold all the way down to get past power on prompt). Is there a way to re-map channels to normal AETR mode 2? (ie: throttle/rudder on left stick, ail/elev on right)?
Thank you so much John! Brilliant video - I was tempted to convert to EdgeTX and this one-stop tutorial made me finally do it. One question please, if I may - on completion my touchscreen does not respond... I tested it within Hardware > Debug > Analogs and it seems to work. But not with EdgeTX... Have I missed anything? Any idea what is wrong please? Other than this all seems to work fine (with the buttons). Many thanks!
There is an option in Global Functions and Special Functions to disable touch. I'd make sure that's not on. You could also "reset" your radio settings by erasing \RADIO adio.yml just to see if it is a physical setting. If you erase/remove that file, the radio will create a new one on reboot/sd mount and it will ask you to go through calibration again. Skip that, and check immediately if touch works. It should if it works on the Analogs screen. What radio?
I did this conversion last night and it is awesome and thank you for putting together this great video. The only thing I noticed is when I first turn on the radio the OpenTx comes on briefly before switching to EdgeTx. Did I miss something here? Was I supposed to remove the old OpenTX Firmware?.. Thanks in advance.
Hi Jhon, I have Taranis QX7 ACSST system with black & white screen. So if following your step it should say that I don't need some firmware like the themes, multiprotocol, right? Your thought would be appreciated. Thanks
I used this successfully for my TX16s. Very pleased thanks. Then I tried to do the same with FRSKY X10S Horus and that does not work. After setting up the sd card the tx starts , holding the 2 trim levers together, but does not go into flash firmware. Instead it says sd card error expected version 2.3V0029 Any ideas ? I have now reverted this tx to OpenTX
Hi,John,I just converted both my Radiomaster tx16s' to edge tx 2.9.4.One works fine, but on the other the themes don't seem to work, although the whole list is in the themes folder.Presumably i made a mistake somewhere, but I've gone through your video again, and i can't find anything i've done wrong.Any thoughts?Thanks.Hans.
Hi I have a question. I have just converted my Radiomaster 16S to Edge TX after following your post. My only problem is that the sounds for the Edge software I find indistinct and difficult to understand. Is it possible to re install my Amber sounds from Open TX? I love your posts Ken
Yup, amber works fine on Edge. I have a video on installing the Amber sound pack if you need help. This was done for OpenTx, but it applies the same to EdgeTx: ruclips.net/video/S4QYoLFlMf0/видео.html
Good Video. I like the concise, cut-to-the-chase format of this and other videos or yours! I'm on the fence for switching to ETX. I'm currently running a RM T16S, but with an older firmware set. I have refused to update my xmitter firmware, from back when FrSky and Jumper (my first OTX radio) got into a squabble and FrSky started doing some proprietary things with your X8R and S8R receivers. So, all of my X8R and S8R receivers have been flashed back to older firmware sets before I bound/installed them in my aircraft. So, first question: If I do the OTX-to-ETX conversion as you've shown in this video, will the ETX RM T16S communicate with the existing older firmware receivers? Or will I have to pull all of my receivers out of their respective aircraft (I currently have a bout 40 aircraft that are bound to my RM T16S) and flash them to a current firmware set? My gut is telling me 'yes,' and that's a huge turnoff to me. Related to existing receivers that are bound to the OTX-running transmitter, will they have to be rebound to the ETX-running transmitter? Losing all of my existing widgets is a big turnoff, too. I fly complicated warbirds and have spent quite a bit of time making multiple information screens for each model. It would be a major ordeal to have to redo all of the existing widgets. i do understand that ETX is actively advancing, while OTX has been evolutionarily stagnant for many years. But OTX ain't broke for me. Thus the quandry: Do I fix what ain't broken, or bite the bullet and step into the new decade??? Decisions, decisions... Again, thanks for this and your other videos. Quality stuff!!!
"If I do the OTX-to-ETX conversion as you've shown in this video, will the ETX RM T16S communicate with the existing older firmware receivers?" Yes, your bind info carries over. This video might help with your decision: ruclips.net/video/Hwe55lPsN4g/видео.html
Thanks for this however, my splash screen still says Open TX even though the conversion seemed to go properly. How do I change the splash screen? Cheers.
I hear this guy makes a lot of really good conversion videos. Here's one with information about the splash screen: ruclips.net/video/EEmsMJbhCfE/видео.html
I'm considering doing the switch. One question - does timer information get lost? I presently have a timer running with total airframe/flight time (is presently at 16 hrs for a Durafly Tundra).
John at 14 minutes into the video you are putting the file TX16-a55aff0.bin into the firmware folder, I am using a new blank micro SD card formatted to Fat 32. Question would I create a FIRMWARE folder to stick the file into on the micro SD, or the file directly onto the SD card. Or does it require tx 16s formatted card and then insert the TX16-a55aff0.bin file? Just want to be sure to do this step right. I have no models on the radio that I want to keep. I understand the name of the file will change with the version I'm downloading. Thank you
The bootloader will look in \FIRMWARE if you intend to flash from the bootloader. So if you don't have that folder, go ahead and make it. It's a good practice to keep your MPM, ELRS, Radio, and any Receiver firmwares you make/use in that folder for flashing purposes. I actually maintain my firmware on the production radio to keep the latest copy of firmware I'm using for flight.
I previously tried updating OpenTX and somehow ended up with a blue theme on my screen. Radio worked fine but i am not sure if i busted something that i might not be aware of. A couple of questions: 1- Do you think i can convert to EdgeTX with no issues from there? Or should I restore the old firmware from my backup? 2- Any idea if I should unzip the files if I am on Mac? Appreciate the help, cant wait to upgrade my RC experience!
Thanks, I am stuck and my situation is, my models are in 2.5 version, I try to go back to 2.3 by using document save as, its not working models are with some strange numbers and name. I try to use binary to YML after watching your video nothing, the reason, my models are saved in 2.5 and not 2.3 version. So I dont know what to do know, any advice from your side.
You should join discord and ask there. This is more complicated than what YT comments are useful supporting. Link is in the description of every video I post.
Hi Jhon, today I just have time to do this migration from OpenTX to EdgeTX from my Taranis QX7 and I already followed all your guidance and problem happened that all my models disappeared... Any thoughts on this? Thanks
@@RCVideoReviews Yes, I just checked in the models folder and there are some "bin" file (same as the file I used to have in OpenTX) and 1 (one) "yml" file but still when I entered "model sel" menu there are no model at all....
What is the yml file. It helps if you're specific. Look in \MODELS and remove any yml files Look in \RADIO and remove any yml files You should be left with: \MODELS\modelx.bin...modelz.bin \RADIO adio.bin \RADIO\models.txt With that file arrangement the firmware should convert your models successfully. Go back to opentx, put your backup on the card. Read models and settings with EdgeTX Companion. Flash EdgeTX, write models and settings with Companion. ruclips.net/video/WfVTCfcae2Y/видео.html
I have a question, I fly those little Eachine planes and they have 3 rates, beginner, intermediate and expert mode. I would like to set up just dual rates and expo in expert mode but don't want it to effect the other 2 rates. Do you do this in flight modes or somewhere else. Let me know, thanks
I'll repeat this back to make sure I've got it: You have a switch (we'll call it "SA") that toggles beginner, intermediate, and expert. You want a second switch (we'll call it "SB") that lets you toggle high rates+expo and low rates+expo while the first switch is in expert mode. There are a bunch of different ways to skin this. You could use flight modes, but I feel unless you are comfortable programming the radio, it might be confusing. To keep it as simple as possible, I would probably do something like this: L01: a=x, V1 SA, V2 -100, (or whatever your mode switch is: -100 for up, 0 for mid, 100 for down) AND SB-up L02: a=x, V1 SA, V2 -100, AND SB-!up (notice the exclamation mark) Now you can setup a 2nd line on your inputs page using L01 for the high rates switch and L02 for the low rates switch on aileron/elevator/rudder.
Hi John. Small question? I am running now on OpenTX 2.3.11. To move to EdgeTX 2.8 would you advise to first update to OpenTX 2.3.15 before moving to EdgeTX 2.8 ? Thanks for your feed back and all your videos. Patrick
Edge supports Access on Access radios. I'm told there are some issues on color radios with OTA updates, but it shouldn't have issues binding if you use the correct protocol. Anyway, all the more reason to get away from Access IMHO. I'd take EdgeTX over Access any day of the week.
Hi John, If somebody has mentioned this before now, forgive me, but I think you forgot to include actually flashing the MPM module in the video. Maybe update the description to indicate this? After following the video to the tee - I discovered the MPM wasn't working and knew what to do, but the people new to the hobby that follow the video are missing a critical step.
Converting from OTX to ETX does not necessarily require a MPM upgrade. In any event: ruclips.net/video/CUmw2cDnFx0/видео.html A basic search on the channel could solve the issue. If you saw view statistics from RUclips, it's a wonder I do videos over 2 minutes at all. It's always "too much" or "too little". So I opt to break things into chunks. Since MPM isn't necessarily required, I put those instructions in their own video.
@@RCVideoReviews John, the reason I posted the comment was I nabbed one of the TBS blowout $59 radios and immediately after unboxing used your vid (which I know from experience are THE BEST on the youtube for all matters Edge and TX16S) to change over to Edge. Once finished - the MPM module would not work at all until I flashed it (of course using your other video, lol). So what I'm saying is that if I were a newbie I would think I screwed something up by converting it over to edge. If following your video with a brand new radio, the MPM won't work afterwards. You see what I'm saying?
What you are describing is an exception, not a rule. The MPM is not dependent on EdgeTX firmware to "work". I've--not one single time--had to flash the MPM in order for it to "work" no matter what version of Edge I use. Now, I have had to flash it to get it to stop badgering me about a firmware update recommended. But it should not be a requirement.
I just confirmed on discord with one of the moderators who also got that radio the very specific question: Did your MPM work after flashing Edge but before updating the MPM? His answer: "Yes. It was just suggesting an update. But it did bind to my sim dongle"
Hi John. I bought a TX16s a while back and haven't used it yet so it's still as supplied, it's version 2.3.11. I have no models on it, therefore there's nothing to transfer over. I'm new to radios like this having previously used Graupner, Hitec, Radiolink and others. Please forgive me for what is probably a naive question! I want to change the system to Edge as per your video. Can I remove the supplied SD card and keep it in case I make any mistakes or I want to revert back to Open tx later for any reason and use a brand new SD card for Edge? If so, I assume I'll have to format it first? Your help will be much appreciated thanks!
Yes, you can do that. You can also just copy the contents of the current SD card to your desktop and use the existing card. If you do opt to go with a new card, make sure to format with 4k or less allocation size. Windows doesn't like to do that for larger cards and it can cause stuttering issues if you use larger 8k+ allocation when you format a card.
@@RCVideoReviews Ok that's great thanks1 I have a couple of 256mb micro sd cards spare so I'll use one of those. I'm using a Mac. Would it be easier to borrow a windows computer to do this? Sorry for the extra question!
Help, Did the conversion seemed like all was good, then the screen freezes. I shut off the radio and turn it back on it works for like 30 seconds then it freezes again. Niether the touch screen or the buttons work after it freezes.
I believe I followed all the steps, even to using the 'superceded' 2.7.1 release. BUT, pressing the MDL button does nothing.....(It used to work fine under OTX). What have I done wrong?

Glad it helped
Wow! This is one of the BEST instructional video's I've ever seen on RUclips. Your video is absolutely AMAZING! My TX16S transmitter upgrade worked perfectly. I would've never been able to upgrade my radio to EdgeTX on my own. Thank you very much.
Wow, thanks! Glad to help.
Thanks again for all your hard work. I failed a few times because I did not follow all your steps. Started over and followed everything you did and it works great for me. Thanks.
Great job! Way to stick with it. Once you get the hang of it, it'll get much easier.
OK, You have made me believe I can do this. You have made it look very easy, direct and to the point. Hopefully I will have my radio uploaded later this week. Thank You sir.
You can do it!
By far the best step by step EdgeTX conversion video anywhere. Thank you!
Wow, thanks!
Thanks! Exactly what I needed!
Glad it helped!
"...get a teenager to figure it out..." :D brilliant! Thanks for the video, it worked just fine :)
Cheapest advice that will get the job done right :)
This video explains it ruclips.net/video/NYbOLLoV-GA/видео.html
Anyway, sounds like you got it sorted out with an OTX backup.
I followed this guide for upgrading and it worked perfectly. Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Wow. Clear and to the point. Lacking in so many RUclips instructional videos but just perfect here. Well done.
Thank you.
Just received my TX16s max in the post! I will be following this step by step. Thanks for your concise explanation of the process and making it easy to understand for us dummies!! 👍😁
Glad to help. Have fun with your new radio.
Just finished the conversion. Thank you for making it so clear. Blown away by your content on EdgeTX so Im officially supporting. Its a deal at twice the price! Happy Thanksgiving.
Wow, what a nice comment. Thank you.
Great tutorial! Switched to EdgeTX and really like it! Keep up the good work. Warm greetings from Belgium! 🇧🇪
Thanks for the note.
Nice job John. A very good instructional video to make it easy to switch to EdgeTX. I re-watched the video and you done an excellent job. A little blooper, but heck we are all human. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Bill. Appreciate the understanding.
I'm a bit late to the Edge TX party but this is just what I needed... really good instructable, worked first time, many thanks.
Glad it helped!
Thanks for a very well presented set of instructions. I followed your instructions with ease to upgrade from a very old version of Open TX to the latest version of Edge TX 2.8.3.
Awesome! Glad to help.
Thanks bro! It worked 100! Keep up the good work! God bless you
Glad I could help.
3Thanks!
You got it!
Thanks Mate you made the change a complete success, with your help the file management is making sense and if I make a mistake it is easy to fix, I even watched your new INAV for EDGE Tx video and included the INAV scripts at the same time. Keep up the good work!! Happy Flying!!😃
Glad the video helped. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Impressive !!! clear and easy to follow - Thanks regards from France
You're welcome!
Great job as always. I finally moved to EdgeTX because of this video. Thank you🙏🏼
Awesome! Have fun.
The. Flash 2.9.
That makes sense, thank you. So I can just put the older version on the SD card and do the same process, then update after it works?
LOL
Glad you got it worked out.
Thanks for your help. My TX16S reaches a new level of performance. Greetings from Reunion Island. Merci beaucoup!!! ;-)))
Vous êtes les bienvenus.
Good news it works its a t18 radio and it froze during the my first try. had to unplug them turn on in bootloader mode and try again and presto it worked great., thanks
Good to hear.
first class job ...you sir have great skills as a communicator .... thoroughly enjoying my Edge experience thanks to you.
Thank you, appreciate the kind words. Glad you're getting along with Edge.
Thanks, did all the steps as shown and worked well.
Glad to help.
Great job! This is EVERYTHING you need in 1 video!! And it is super simple
Thanks Hobie. This should be foolproof.
Thank you for this new video!!!! I was missing the Lua scripts and other important components. You made things easy and seamless.
You're very welcome. Glad it helped out.
@@RCVideoReviews Ok then thanks.
If I have OpenTX 2.3.14 on my Radiomaster TX16S will the conversion work, or do I need to upgrade to 2.3.14 first.
loud and clear. i watched the entire video. plus you earned my sub.
Great! Welcome to the channel.
Nice and clean. i'll be doing a switch. thanks
Great! Welcome to Edge.
Sounds like got it worked out in the end.
Hello John. I followed your instructions in the conversion process and everything worked flawlessy except the touch screen is not working. Its not a game changer but I was wondering if I slighted something.
Great instructional video.
Thanks
Jason
Usually that means you flashed TX16.bin and not TX16S.bin
@@RCVideoReviews Thank you.
@@RCVideoReviews John. Sorry to disturb you during the game. It says my firmware is edgetx16s-2.7.19a55aff020
@@RCVideoReviews John. I went from OpenTX 2.3.15. I'll follow your instructions to try to trace the issue.
Nice instructions! The problem with widget non-conversion stops me cold in my tracks. I have 17 models all with custom widgets, and to go through the trouble of re-doing all the widgets would be a burden. If they can figure out how to save the widgets, I would be all-in. Cheers.
Very good instruction on how to switch to Edge tx.
I have two sd cards on one open tx and the other edge tx.
Thanks for the comment. Glad to help.
Super video, can't wait to upgrade to EdgeTx...I HAVE to have my Amber Sound pack...do I just copy them back into the sounds folder after upgrading?
It works now that I calibrated the sticks. I shouldn't have skipped that.
Followed video as you went along and for some reason when installing the firmware i got 90 percent then it just stopped there... What should i do. Also great videos.

Would I just have to choose other c480x272 or c480x320 ??
Great video done by great teacher.
My question is about new model setting .
How can we create new model in edge version, like in open tx , very simple way just to select which channel we want ,
I mean can we use that way in edge version??
Pls guide how can we use that wizard in edge ?
Don't use wizards--just chose the option to create a new model and Edge will setup a new model with 4 channels in your specified default mode. Learn to start with a basic 4 channel model and forget about wizards, you will thank me later.
Hi can you update this video to the Laters released has change thank for you time and shearing which us.
You need to rename this folder to simply en
i know very little about this subject BUT can this tutorial be used on a brand new Jumper T-Pro controller that has OpenTx on it ?
Great video, but one important information is missing. Do I have to rebind my models? I have a hole lot of models, guess about 24 and don't want to bind them all again
If you don't change the TX your bindings are not impacted.

Was just curious why the edge tx wizard loader will only let have 8 channel to choose from, I know you can just go into inputs and mixer pages to set up the channels you need, but was just curious about the wizard loader lack of 16 channels.
I don't know. I delete the Wizard. Kick it to the curb and learn to program your models by hand, you'll thank me for it later.
Nevermind - mode setting needed to be changed back to Mode 2 - fixed!
You could also "reset" your radio settings by erasing \RADIO
adio.yml just to see if it is a physical setting.

Thanks
Yes, these steps are for a color radio. B&W targets don't use themes.

@@RCVideoReviews Thanks for the info and link.
"If I do the OTX-to-ETX conversion as you've shown in this video, will the ETX RM T16S communicate with the existing older firmware receivers?"
Yes, your bind info carries over.

Hey there, great videos. Can I go from openTX 2.1.9 to EdgeTX 2.6 ?
Yes.
The only thing that gets lost are widgets.
Just curious do you have to rebind all your models after this convertion?
No. Bindings remain.
So what does the MPM firmware does? how to install that?
You're doing such a great job, and I'm trying to follow you. Sorry to keep commenting you. Horus does not appear as a choice.

John worked the first time the Flying Dutchman is up and ready, now to learn, once again. Appreciate you taking the time to do all this!!!!
Glad to help.
I previously tried updating OpenTX and somehow ended up with a blue theme on my screen. Radio worked fine but i am not sure if i busted something that i might not be aware of.
A couple of questions:
1- Do you think i can convert to EdgeTX with no issues from there? Or should I restore the old firmware from my backup?
2- Any idea if I should unzip the files if I am on Mac?
Appreciate the help, cant wait to upgrade my RC experience!
If I do not care about my only model, can i delete its file and just set up a new model after update?
Thanks, I am stuck and my situation is, my models are in 2.5 version, I try to go back to 2.3 by using document save as, its not working models are with some strange numbers and name. I try to use binary to YML after watching your video nothing, the reason, my models are saved in 2.5 and not 2.3 version. So I dont know what to do know, any advice from your side.

@RCVideoReviews I manage to convert the models a bit difficult but I finally did it
Hi Jhon, today I just have time to do this migration from OpenTX to EdgeTX from my Taranis QX7 and I already followed all your guidance and problem happened that all my models disappeared...
Any thoughts on this? Thanks
They probably didn't disappear, you probably just lost your widgets. Did you look in your models folder?
@@RCVideoReviews Yes, I just checked in the models folder and there are some "bin" file (same as the file I used to have in OpenTX) and 1 (one) "yml" file but still when I entered "model sel" menu there are no model at all....
What is the yml file. It helps if you're specific.
Look in \MODELS and remove any yml files
Look in \RADIO and remove any yml files
You should be left with:
\MODELS\modelx.bin...modelz.bin
\RADIO
adio.bin
\RADIO\models.txt
With that file arrangement the firmware should convert your models successfully.
Go back to opentx, put your backup on the card. Read models and settings with EdgeTX Companion. Flash EdgeTX, write models and settings with Companion.

Welcome to the club! :)
Can you still plug in and use the Crossfire module after switching Radiomaster TX16S to EdgeTx?
Yes.
I have a question, I fly those little Eachine planes and they have 3 rates, beginner, intermediate and expert mode. I would like to set up just dual rates and expo in expert mode but don't want it to effect the other 2 rates. Do you do this in flight modes or somewhere else. Let me know, thanks
I'll repeat this back to make sure I've got it:
You have a switch (we'll call it "SA") that toggles beginner, intermediate, and expert.
You want a second switch (we'll call it "SB") that lets you toggle high rates+expo and low rates+expo while the first switch is in expert mode.
There are a bunch of different ways to skin this. You could use flight modes, but I feel unless you are comfortable programming the radio, it might be confusing. To keep it as simple as possible, I would probably do something like this:
L01: a=x, V1 SA, V2 -100, (or whatever your mode switch is: -100 for up, 0 for mid, 100 for down) AND SB-up
L02: a=x, V1 SA, V2 -100, AND SB-!up (notice the exclamation mark)
Now you can setup a 2nd line on your inputs page using L01 for the high rates switch and L02 for the low rates switch on aileron/elevator/rudder.
Hi John. Small question? I am running now on OpenTX 2.3.11. To move to EdgeTX 2.8 would you advise to first update to OpenTX 2.3.15 before moving to EdgeTX 2.8 ? Thanks for your feed back and all your videos. Patrick
Hi Patrick, Not necessary. You can go straight to EdgeTX from there.
@@RCVideoReviews THANKS John I just switched to EdgeTX 2.8. All working good so far ! Thanks for your support !

Hi John, didnt support my access receivers when i flashed my x7s access, had to go back :(
Edge supports Access on Access radios. I'm told there are some issues on color radios with OTA updates, but it shouldn't have issues binding if you use the correct protocol. Anyway, all the more reason to get away from Access IMHO. I'd take EdgeTX over Access any day of the week.
little stressful lol thank's a ton
Glad to help.
In any event: ruclips.net/video/CUmw2cDnFx0/видео.html
A basic search on the channel could solve the issue.
If you saw view statistics from RUclips, it's a wonder I do videos over 2 minutes at all. It's always "too much" or "too little". So I opt to break things into chunks. Since MPM isn't necessarily required, I put those instructions in their own video.
FYI: 17k views and you're the first person to suggest MPM flashing is a required step or missing from the video.
I just confirmed on discord with one of the moderators who also got that radio the very specific question:
Did your MPM work after flashing Edge but before updating the MPM?
I haven’t tried formatting on Mac. I don’t see any reason the command line tools shouldn’t be able to handle it. Just do fat32 w 4k allocation size.
@@RCVideoReviews Ok, thank you John...
Awesome Sir
Help, Did the conversion seemed like all was good, then the screen freezes. I shut off the radio and turn it back on it works for like 30 seconds then it freezes again. Niether the touch screen or the buttons work after it freezes.
Sounds like you got the wrong firmware.
I believe I followed all the steps, even to using the 'superceded' 2.7.1 release. BUT, pressing the MDL button does nothing.....(It used to work fine under OTX). What have I done wrong?
Ha!! Scratch that - I just turned it off, and then On again - It works!! John, you are a champion!
Awesome! Thanks for the comment and follow-up.
Can you send me a link to you setup with the 700 tron heli.
