As far as the NV14, there is a bug in the Curves section that the dev's are now aware of. No model or setting conversion available with the Nirvana either. That said, I use that radio for SIM's and the difference between Edge and Open TX is very noticeable. Suddenly Liftoff is nearly as responsive as real world. BIG difference. I imagine the 500mhz stick position polling is also a benefit here. My QX-7 is already switched due to the software inverter fix, the TX-16s will likely wait until 2.6, and it looks like the NV14 will finally get back to the field with that release as well. Thanks to the new Companion software, EdgeTX is ALMOST ready for prime time takeover from OpenTX with my radio's. Good work Dev's!!!

@@sylvanlight120 It would be interesting if you can give ETX a try at some point - as ETX has resolved latency issues when used as usb joystick as Steve mentioned, and AFAIK will use the gimbals at full res (if you have high res gimbals hall effect gimbals, why the heck not?). Obviously someone has experienced this is the best person to test it ;) Happy days are ahead for the NV14 though :)
@@pfeerick I went to ETX 2.4 on my UFPV Nirvana, but ended up going back as the widgets did not work with telemetry from crsf.. all telemetry appeared and was live and functioning correctly in the telemetry discovery screen, but the widgets showed nothing... would be great to see if the 2.5 update fixes this. I've tried A LOT of radios since getting my UFPV nirvana years ago, and nothing comes close to the build quality and in-hand feel... Everything works fine for what I need with the UFPV firmware that Jakub built, but it would be great to open up all of the functions, so I'll try ETX 2.5 and report back.

There's a few more details on It's Bluntys video, can't quite remember the title... But as long as you have an ELRS module and are using 500hz it will be enabled, and/or have NO internal or external modules selected for a model you use specifically for a Sim, along with 400k Baud rate, the latency is drastically reduced to the 4ms which is 500Hz polling. Don't 100% quote me on this as I'm still fiddling with settings myself, but this is what I have understood from a bunch of research and googling... All the information is spread over a few forums a RUclips vids
Just switched my daily driver over to EdgeTX as of their 2.5 RCs, and updated to the 2.5 release once it became available, and I don't see myself going back to OpenTX. I was a bit hesitant to try it on the 2.4 release but I feel that it's now almost ready to be the new standard radio OS. I'm hopeful that 2.6 will bring a more complete theming spec as I've already got to work making my own theme for my radio which I might add to the EdgeTX/themes repo once 2.6 drops.
I've found out if you use the regular backup models function in OpentTX companion, you can drag that OTX file directly to EdgeTX companion and it will populate all your models and model settings. But you will still have to separately back up model images.
Thanks for your great videos. You have helped me get back into the hobby. I recently bought a taranis x9lite. I can not find much info on updating to edge tx and how to setup crsf nano module to work with the transmitter. Do you have any suggestions.
I installed EdgeTx on my Radiomaster last night took 30 minutes. I acid tested the OS with a fresh plane build. Touch screen cut my timer in half. Function tabs are in logical position. I noticed when you bind a receiver it will warn you to install current firmware. Followed your instructions breezed through the install. Only problem was operator error. LOL, had to keep reminding myself to stop using the jog wheel. Never used companion for any of my Opentx. I’m one of those people that doesn’t trust creating a model in one program and prays everything transfers . I like to see my changes in operation in real time. Well for me too, “Bye Bye OpenTx” Keep up the great work Joshua I learned something again.
I installed EdgeTX a few weeks ago and it is really really good. Thing I noticed was the trims the sub trims option was missing and also TBS agent lite was not touch screen compatible. Although that is probably a TBS thing more than an EdgeTX thing.
I gave it a try the other day and it looked like the iNav Lua telemetry was running a bit laggy and slow. The font was appearing a bit strange too. Not sure if they have to iron out a few bugs but I decided to revert back to OpenTX for now as I use the iNav Lua script for all my planes!
There is an updated version of the inav widget to fix colors and lag issues on ETX, so make sure you're running the latest version of it. I have had betaflight configurator working on TX16S and T-Lite.
I got EdgeTx on my QX7. I copied the models folder after doing so, my models do not show up. I’ve since copied the folder? Should I just run the bootloader again?
Being able to select model via touch is a neat feature. Most of the widget and display stuff won't really help me much *during* FPV quad flight, since I'll have goggles stuck to my face. The backend stuff like 500mhz polling is great. There's likely a few other improvements for in flight performance, and touch screen might be useful for fixed wing in flight or even for using the radio settings outside of flight. My biggest concern with touch screen would be accidentally touching it during flight. Granted, highly unlikely.
So my thoughts on egde tx was mite as well I'm new to all this I'm about 3 months in to fpv. The way I see it everything is in a constant state of development so I have no complaints. It's easy to use it looks great the touch screen is great. And it gives me the full 500hgz for my ELRS module. I figured since I have to all this from scratch may as well learn the latest and greatest. I found it easier to flash with the radio and ad card. The configurator was a little technical for my current knowledge level. On a side note thank you JB! I'm ordering the last components for my first custom build tomorrow and thanks to you I feal confident to get it setup and in the air fairly quickly! Pateon discord is the best big thanks!
I found this very helpful! I had problems with my drivers in my pc, i searched and found impulserc driver repair tool. After i ran that everything was soo easy!
Since you can't pick and flash firmware in EdgeTX companion and the devs don't plan to implement it, how do you choose options in your firmware like "noheli", "squartfont", and "elrslua"?
I bought a TX16S a few months ago and put EdgeTX on it right away. I wanted to try the touchscreen but mainly wanted 500mhz for ELRS. I really like it. I've encountered zero problems and encourage anyone to make the switch if they want to. Their Discord is friendly and happy to help if you have questions or a problem.
I was super skeptical because I hadn't noticed any latency in the link with my pc using my qx7. Always bet on Bardwell, I upgraded and the improvement is instantly noticeable!
Thanks for this Joshua. Much appreciated. As a new guy to the hobby I've learned something every day I've watched your videos. Would you recommend a guy taking his new unused tx16s and going straight to the edge TX?
BACKUP SD card! 'Only from source to designation' is from computer to radio. I think, it should be vice versa. Even that small point has been changed in EdgeTX. There it is local folder and radio folder.
I’m a newbie with the Radiomaster. I did put Edgetx on my radio a month or so back but panicked and switched back. Why? Because there’s nowhere near the support with EdgeTX yet to help someone like myself when in trouble or just learning, not like there is for OpenTX
As in? As for most things with EdgeTX, you can still use OpenTX tutorials and guides, as the interface and functionality shares a lot from OTX still... in a few more versions you may have some trouble with stuff looking and behaving differently, but shouldn't be *that* different atm.
Not true. Whole different flasher that kinda sucks. And he's probably stating that people know alot more about open TX and alot more videos on RUclips to help him than there is on edge. Just a guess
At this point it's probly just the notion that some people are actually doing something now. The touchscreen feature alone is kind of a big deal since it's one of Radiomaster's selling points in the description of the TX16s but has been nearly a couple of years. Kinda reminds me of this BLU phone I had that shipped with Android 9 with the promise from them of getting Android 10 and by the time Android 11 came out it still never got the update. So reality is this isn't a gamechanger...it's just nice.
Tomorrow's video lists six concrete reasons why you might want to switch today if you're on the fence. QX7 inverter mod. 500 Hz gimbal polling. Stuff like that. For now it's still kind of cutting edge stuff or niche stuff, but the list of things that EdgeTX does better seems like it will only grow.
@@JoshuaBardwell The mere fact the EdgeTX dev team is responsive and going things is enough to make me change. What I'd like to know is how many people on the old dev team had a vested interest in not supporting the touchscreen, in effect handicapping Radio Master.
@@SomeTechGuy666 There are pretty much only three regular contributors/developers left on the OTX team. @@JohnRSippy I have been having issues with this radio since I got it, mainly having to rip it apart to re-set the crappy ribbon connectors that they use. The last straw was a few weeks back when I turned it on to go fly and the thing just bricked on me. I know I could probably do a DFU flash and maybe get it working again but at this point I am just tired of fixing this radio and never knowing if it will work or not.
I recently purchased the Radiomaster TX-16s Mark 2 Max. My previous radio was the TX-12. This weekend I set up all my models to the new TX-16 and all bound all my receivers. Unfortunately the 3 Frsky S8R receivers are having issues with the Gyro set up. The receiver controls work, the gyro is stuck in 1 mode plus will not calibrate with ch 12 position switch or change modes with ch 10 switch. I updated the firmware on both the receiver and radio with no luck at all. All 3 of these receivers work on the TX-12 with older firmware. Is this due to edge Edge? My radio is set for edge-Companion 2-8-1 and the frsky S8R rec firmware is 2.1.2.
I installed EdgeTX on my radiomaster TX16S and I love it! But I have a question... where in the menu can we configure TBS Crossfire settings? It's not in the Tools section of the System settings anymore? Or do we have to do it via LUA scripts oldschool?
I had successfully converted to Edgetx.I can see the visual indicator for the battery level of the radio. But I can't see the value. Is it a settings issue? Thank You.
I have been flying alot of simulators recently and had issues with getting tight flips. You suggested that it might be something with the OpenTX software. I have now switched and can perfectly hit them even though I am using the same technique. Thanks alot JB!
I just did this today on my TX16s. The sound files show up in the sounds file but it doesn't show them when I go to set a PLAY TRACK option for arm, disarm and my flight modes??? Just says No Files On SD Card... but I can see them when I go to SD Card then sound file... I can even listen to them... Any help would be awesome. Thanks

Hi Joshua I just switched over to Edge Tx and have a problem I copied my models over to the sd card on my taranis x9d and when I go into the models section to restore the models all I get is incompatible, I have re loaded it ten times pulling my hair out
Heya JB do you have a link for setting up using companion? its been three years for me and I'm a little rusty. using and x9d+ now on edgetx. My models are there but the setting I think are no longer. Also the Wizard is a pain selecting multirotor.
Looks like Edge TX v2.6.0 (Santa) is available. I see that Edge Tx teams are also working with TBS which is good to hear. I just picked up the TBS Tango 2 Pro (V4). All steps in the right direction. 👍👍👍
I'm a line-of-sight, fixed-wing warbird RC pilot. The radio and software are simply tools for me to fly toy airplanes (ie, the radio and software are not hobbies for me themselves). I love the features that OTX provides, compared to Spekky and other TX/RX providers. I have been on a Jumper T16 for several years, and just bought a RadiomasterTX16S. I've already ported everything from my Jumper over to my RMTX16S. I've been debating whether to stay OTX or make the jump to ETX. Honestly, I don't care about touch screen (and actually don't like the idea of fingerprint smudges being all over my screen, if I need to sneak a peak during a flight). The faster response from the gimbals doesn't seem to be important to me as fixed-wing warbird flyer. Long preamble... sorry. So, if you don't need a touch screen and don't see a need for the faster gimbal response, what other key performance improvements should I consider when trading OTX against ETX? BTW, even being a fixed-wing guy, and not a rotory-wing guy, I find your content very informative, and I appreciate it.
Could have done with this 3 weeks ago. It has been out for a while JB - where have you been :-). More seriously, this version works very well, no issues which interfere with normal flying that I have come across, apart from the way resetting trim works in comparison to OpenTX. Also you did say that touch screen has been around for some time on the TX16S, not necessarily true, only on the product lines which come with the touch screen. Dont expect that every TX16S's screen will suddenly burst into touch-screen life just because you install Edge TX.
Very true. I purchased my TX16S without the touch screen, and then added it later. However, unlike that Jumper T18, adding touchscreen support was actually an option :-/
Hallo I need your help I have xm+ and r9m mod elrs. Before I install firmware edge tx everything normal. But after I use firmware edge tx my receiver not binding (xm+ and r9m mod elrs). What should I do? Thanks for answering 🙏
ive noticed after couple months after switching. I don't have my crossfire menu on my tx16x, where you can set you power it only says spectrum what file do I need thanks josh
@JoshuaBardwell Will the Edge Tx 2.5 work with a Frsky rx8r Rx. Will this combination work with 120-130cc gassers, will i have interference. Given my "Rx bay" is about 2' aft of my ignition. I am about to purchase the Tx16s Max.
I was also hesitant to use a nightly for 500hz support but it’s worked just fine for me. I get that silly warning each time I power up my radio but no biggie.
Does the EdgeTX Flasher app not work anymore? IIRC, it will prep the sdcard, assist with sound pack, and flash the correct firmware for your radio. That's what I've been pointing others towards. I mean, this works fine and is what I do but the Flasher looks easy as pie. To answer your question, I've been on 2.4 for a month and now 2.5 for the past week flying long range every day over unrecoverable areas and the radio firmware is not at all a concern to me.
It does work just fine, but sometimes people have trouble with the DFU driver so I sometimes choose to steer people towards the SD card method. Either one is fine.
Yes, the flasher app does still work, however many new users were confused with selecting the correct firmware, sd card contents, and the DFU issues (which are mostly worked out now) etc.. so we are re-structuring the UI to simplify it. So for the time being, we are recommending that users use the bootloader method as JB demostrated until the re-vamped flasher is complete. Plus, the bootloader method always works and really is the quickest way once you know how to do it.
How do you lock/disabled the trims on the transmitter in Edgetx? Like how opentx wouldn't let you just use the trims without going into the menu or however it was. It was probably only when a quad model was selected.
I do have an edge tx on my nirvana and i have a question: how do you calibrate endpoints? Or do you even need to? Also how to disable filtering, if there is any
Hi Joshua and thank you for the video. Quick question - will touchscreen in EdgeTX allow screen keyboard usage? Or typing is still done with wheel button?
Kemosabe Yes the Edge TX it is worth the upgrade and the very likelihood of continued regular advances is more than likely with Edge TX, while open TX will sputter out with an similar upgrade like Edge TX in order to feed those waiting for years but open Tx will likely go back into hibernation more than anything else. After all that's their M O .
Touchscreen control! :o I so missed that when I moved on from my old Turnigy TGY-i10. Ah nuts, that means if I want that I'll have to replace my T16... hmm cheaper to live with the clunky interface of the T16.
Honest question: I use the Tango2, and aside from using MyVTX to switch channels when flying with the boys, I never access the the menu (that is, if you don't count selecting to charge or to update firmware). Unless you're flying aircrafts with an advanced Ardupilot interface - why is having that huge screen, with touch capability, so attractive? I struggle to see what people are doing with their TV sized screens. EDIT: I guess that if you could configure your quad through a Betaflight-like interface through your radio, that would be incredibly cool and useful. You'd need a big screen for that!

Great video! Thanks! I understand that I will not loose my models and that once in EdgeTX I just need to copy them to right SD folder. Is that right? Any issue in that process?

Edgetx companion will update the radio operating system. Expresslrs configurator will update the radio module firmware. For edgetx I recommend using edgetx Buddy website.
I followed every step and they all worked fine until I rebooted after flashing bootloader. When I tried to go into bootloader (Radiomaster TX16S) the radio would not go into bootloader. It just started EdgeTX again. Is this fixable?
I also have an issue with my quad pulling alot more Volta than what it should. I'm trying brand new batteries but im still only getting like 2 minutes of flight time before it drops me to like 20 or 19 volts with it jumping from 22 volts to 18 with a powerloop. Im flying the Roma v5 and ive changed the motors thinking maybe I had one pulling to much . Could it be my capacitor? Will at grason hobby says it could be my flight controller.
@@ryanokeefe12 I suspect you meant 2.5 as this is the first release with prelimary NV14 support ;) Please do let us know on discord or via GitHub issues of anything you find. The more people testing different combinations the better, so we can identify and fix any bugs lurking in the code :) I believe there are some issues with telemetry still, so possible little change there.
@@pfeerick Yep, sorry naive assumption
I tried 2.5 RC1 and then RC3 👌👌
The only thing I noticed is i have a models folder, but no radio folder. Qx7s access, I took the sd card out. What am I missing?
Hey Joshua! You mentioned 500hz gimbal polling, is that active by default? Thanks
Thank you. Your instructions worked on version 2.7.1. Now to learn how to use it. The touch screen is great.
Well everyone else has AI's and robots who download everything for us.
I've found out if you use the regular backup models function in OpentTX companion, you can drag that OTX file directly to EdgeTX companion and it will populate all your models and model settings. But you will still have to separately back up model images.
The AI's do all the work for me.
I'm using facial recognition and voice commands and robots.
Yet you have been replying by hand to every single comment above.
Thanks for your great videos. You have helped me get back into the hobby. I recently bought a taranis x9lite. I can not find much info on updating to edge tx and how to setup crsf nano module to work with the transmitter. Do you have any suggestions.
Thanks!
Well for me too, “Bye Bye OpenTx”
Keep up the great work Joshua I learned something again.
Wait, I took a hiatus for 4 years and now we have EdgeTX. I have a Taranis QX7 with OpenTX. Is it worth the upgrade for the QX7?
I installed EdgeTX a few weeks ago and it is really really good.
Thing I noticed was the trims the sub trims option was missing and also TBS agent lite was not touch screen compatible. Although that is probably a TBS thing more than an EdgeTX thing.
I've never owned a laptop and never intend to ever.
Smart TV's have taken over.

What is the 500mhz for ELRS? Is that on an X9D+ also?
Where did you get those white thumb stick ends????? I'm a thumber and I think those would really help me out!

Dose edge tx support the Inav widget, Tbs agent light or Bata flight
In general, I think any lua script that runs on OpenTX will run on EdgeTX. Agent lite I can 100% confirm.
@@pfeerick ohh thanks for letting me know man! I’ll make sure to update the iNav widget then!
I got EdgeTx on my QX7. I copied the models folder after doing so, my models do not show up. I’ve since copied the folder? Should I just run the bootloader again?
I have switched a couple days ago. really enjoying it
I was only waiting for Companion support. I'm now 100% sold on EdgeTX.
Upgraded my QX7 to EdgeTX today, mainly because I've got ELRS gear coming and I want to be able to use it. Great guide, thanks!
I am using qx7 acess with edge tx flashed in it and elrs 2.4ghz… it works flawlessly
This is amazing!!!! I can finally do 500Hz ELRS on my QX7. Thanks for another great video.
I just succesfully converted my jumper t lite to Edgetx! Thank you Josua! Now i will try the sims and feel the diffrence.
It feels a little more direct.
Switched a couple weeks ago and It's working great!
Since you can't pick and flash firmware in EdgeTX companion and the devs don't plan to implement it, how do you choose options in your firmware like "noheli", "squartfont", and "elrslua"?
If you have Edge 2.4 on the TX16S and you go to 2.5 running Crossfire will you have to rebind to models if you saved them.
Maybe the "Receiver number changed when updating"...
"Model Setup"
"External RF"
"Receiver" (Number)
Well, I got through it and upgraded go edgeTX for the USB latency bug fix. Thank you for the help!!
Touch screens are SO 2000's.
We have smart speakers these days.
You talk to the planes.
Voice commands.
I was super skeptical because I hadn't noticed any latency in the link with my pc using my qx7. Always bet on Bardwell, I upgraded and the improvement is instantly noticeable!
Thank you very much! After 2 weeks of trying with OpenTX, Im finally able to bind my Jumper T16 with my Tinyhawk Freestyle!
Thanks for this Joshua. Much appreciated. As a new guy to the hobby I've learned something every day I've watched your videos. Would you recommend a guy taking his new unused tx16s and going straight to the edge TX?
Thanks Josh for a smooth transition of my radio. very nicely explained and I am happy to see my radio touch screen working now.
i want those gimble stick ends......where did you get them

I think if you choose "source to destination" you actually restore the files from HDD location to SD card.
BACKUP SD card! 'Only from source to designation' is from computer to radio. I think, it should be vice versa.
Even that small point has been changed in EdgeTX. There it is local folder and radio folder.
If its open source they can simply fork it and go for it. They dont need to ask for anyones permission to do it!
Wrong!
As of 2.5, EdgeTx is my daily driver on TX16S.
Still running OpenTx on my T12 and probably won't ever update it unless I really need to.
besides the touchscreen, categories and theming, is there anything else we’re missing out on? Doesn’t seem like a big deal for me
At this point it's probly just the notion that some people are actually doing something now.
One is helping out with ETX (Companion), and the other has been working on OTX 2.4 for the last two years, redoing all the UI and touch support stuff. If you can figure out who the third one is, you'll know where the problem lies, and also why ;)
I can not think of a better timing for this video, I just got my Radiomaster TX16S Max in the mail today after my Jumper T16 gave up the ghost.
Out of curiosity, what failed on the Jumper T16?
@@JohnRSippy I have been having issues with this radio since I got it, mainly having to rip it apart to re-set the crappy ribbon connectors that they use. The last straw was a few weeks back when I turned it on to go fly and the thing just bricked on me.
I know I could probably do a DFU flash and maybe get it working again but at this point I am just tired of fixing this radio and never knowing if it will work or not.
@@liftmagnet yeah, sounds like you made the right choice. I've been really lucky with my Jumper T16, but from what I'm reading that's uncommon.
O.O
I just did this today on my TX16s. The sound files show up in the sounds file but it doesn't show them when I go to set a PLAY TRACK option for arm, disarm and my flight modes??? Just says No Files On SD Card... but I can see them when I go to SD Card then sound file... I can even listen to them...
Any help would be awesome. Thanks

Hi Joshua I just switched over to Edge Tx and have a problem
I copied my models over to the sd card on my taranis x9d and when I go into the models section to restore the models all I get is incompatible, I have re loaded it ten times pulling my hair out
Hello I have a problem I flashed everything but when I put off sd card I cannot launch radio without it there is a message no sd card
Heya JB do you have a link for setting up using companion? its been three years for me and I'm a little rusty. using and x9d+ now on edgetx. My models are there but the setting I think are no longer. Also the Wizard is a pain selecting multirotor.
OMG thank you. Radio ordered. I will take it out the box and update to edgetx.
Hallo I need your help
I have xm+ and r9m mod elrs. Before I install firmware edge tx everything normal. But after I use firmware edge tx my receiver not binding (xm+ and r9m mod elrs).

I put edge tx on my Jumper T-lite a month or two ago when I sold all my tbs gear for Elrs and I wanted the 500hz goodness without using a nightly
I was also hesitant to use a nightly for 500hz support but it’s worked just fine for me. I get that silly warning each time I power up my radio but no biggie.
@@sketchpv3080 Agreed and that warning was enough for me to swap to Edge TX.

It should be the same as in OpenTX I think.
I do have an edge tx on my nirvana and i have a question: how do you calibrate endpoints? Or do you even need to?
Also how to disable filtering, if there is any
Adjust endpoints in the OUTPUTS screen.
ADC is usually in the HARDWARE screen. Not sure if the Nirvana has it or not.
Hi Joshua and thank you for the video. Quick question - will touchscreen in EdgeTX allow screen keyboard usage? Or typing is still done with wheel button?
On screen keyboard was enabled in 2.5.0 ;) But you can also use scroll wheel... Best of both worlds ;)
I am new to fpv and about to buy my first fpv radio so now what am I supposed to buy?
I have a FrSky Taranis X9 Lite that has Open TX, will I benefit anything by upgrading?

Touchscreen control! :o
I so missed that when I moved on from my old Turnigy TGY-i10.
@@ojkolsrud1 i do exactly that, i fly quads, but also fly fixed wing and Ardupilot vehicles. I run the Yaapu telemetry screen, and unless I KNOW that it will work just fine on Edge TX, I'll hold off on switching...
