Perfect timing!! I'm watching this as I eat Frango Grelhado com limão from Pingo Doce! 😂 I have a question that you probably don't have an easy answer for -- but, never know so can't hurt to ask! I just moved to São Miguel, Azores which as I'm sure you know has a very different dialect. People tend to chop the ends of words off here a lot! I was surprised to learn that these stores are often pronounced “ping dose” and “continent” with no “e” at the end. Do you have any suggestions for educational resources specific to the Micaelense dialect? I've scoured the internet and can't find much. Plus I listen to all of the social media, live streams & RUclips videos I can find from locals so I can try to pinpoint the pattern of the differences myself. But I'd love some sort of cheat sheet about this dialect that details all of the differences in a “X tends to be pronounced like Y” format -- almost like a key to decoding the patterns of the dialect. For instance, cão like in “coração” doesn't have the nasally emphasis you hear on the mainland & sounds more like “cora-sah”. Other words have a very French nasal sound where you wouldn't expect. Then others have a Dutch/German sounding umlaut sound. I'm doing really well with my Portuguese studies but anytime I have to talk to a real person they sound nothing like the words I'm learning & I get stuck. Might you have happened to run across any resource like this? Or perhaps you’ve posted a video or resource already that I missed? I did catch Português with Leo's video about the São Miguel accent & while super informative, it didn't give me a key to decoding the sound differences phonetically that I can apply to many words/patterns across the board. Thank youuuuu!
What's your go-to supermarket in Portugal? Let me know below :)
