    CORRECTION: The New Marksman Barrel is Hexagonal and not standard Lands and Grooves. Very little info on the Barrel and I was going on a Reputable Source that was incorrect. Thanks Sootch00

      sootch00 Gen 4s already have a "hexagonal" (8-sided polygon) type of rifling. So what seems to be the difference between the Gen 4 barrel rifling from the "Marksman Barrel"?

      sootch00 I like your videos, and you are very knowledgeable, but you said something about the new orange follower that is probably the dumbest shit I've ever heard you say. That new follower isn't to indicate that the gun is empty, it's job is to show the mag is empty. ALWAYS look down and inside the chamber to check for an EMPTY CHAMBER... You probably already know this and it was probably something said off the cuff, but you educate a lot of newcomers, and shit like that could get someone hurt. Thanks for the video, and years of great reviews. Hope you don't take criticism the wrong way.

    This was the first glock I've ever purchased and from the perspective of someone who has no experience with the previous generations I think a lot of thought went in to the gen 5 design. It's my every day carry gun and I'm very happy with it

    Bought one, Shot 200 rounds.... it's a glock.... works like a glock. Goes bang when trigger is pulled. If you don't like it don't buy it, and if you do like it... buy it. That simple.

    Gen 3 forever. Works good…lasts a long time! They have to try and make new generations to convince guys that they need a new Glock. Your old Glock is just fine. Funny how they had no finger grooves, then they added them because it made the gun BETTER….now they removed them again. It's all marketing.

    I got the opportunity to go try this Glock 19 Gen 5 yesterday. Not to mention it was also my first time shooting anything in general. It was so easy to handle, had a good weight to it, and I don't know if it was beginners luck or what, but wow, was it accurate as hell. We are looking to purchase a firearm especially with everything going on. This is definitely at the top of our list.

  • @mannys9130
    @mannys9130 7 лет назад +42

    IDK, I'm underwhelmed by the Gen 5 too to be honest. You say the Gen 2 comment is hilarious, but I think it has real merit.
    Glock added the finger grooves and called it an improvement on perfection. Now the deletion of the grooves is another improvement. They added the 3rd pin and said the same, now it's deleted again. Polygonal rifling was said to be more accurate due to less bullet deformation and better gas seal, but now this non-polygonal barrel is more accurate and another improvement on perfection.
    I hate the finish on the Gen 4 because it scratches way too easily. A harder finish is welcomed, but I wish it was the Gen 3 frying pan finish. The other changes I don't really love enough to move from the Gen 3 and 4 guns that I own and like very much. :/

      mannys9130 That's the truth i have a gen 2 g22 from the 90s and was hoping to upgrade. For $300 more i can have a gen 2 with a rail and a different barrel? I could dremel my own rail and get a lone wolf threaded barrel and some gen 4 mags and you probably couldn't tell the difference except for the holster wear.

    • @darangemaster1
      @darangemaster1 7 лет назад

      as i recall Glock had to add the finger groves and a couple of other frame mods to allow them to be imported into the country as "target pistols", they would even import them with a plastic bag of adjustable sights in the case and nothing on the gun. the target sights traveled back and forth to Austria and the standard sights or night sight installed in the USA all to skirt import laws.

    • @mannys9130
      @mannys9130 7 лет назад

      darangemaster1 I don't think that's correct. I could be wrong, but gen 2 19s were imported without grooves. The full size guns get a smooth trigger, and the smaller sizes get a serrated "target" trigger. You're right about the adjustable sights which are replaced with fixed ones once ashore here. As you see though, the gen 5 in the video is made in Austria, and it has no finger grooves.

    I got the G19 gen 5 right away because of some good things out of the box with it. I like how they simplified the trigger group and how it has an ambi slide release. I also like how easy it is to completely disassemble it completely. The biggest thing I liked is how they got rid of the finger grooves and went with a straight frame grip. It made everything really nice and my favorite pistol.

  • @Jazzman-bj9fq
    @Jazzman-bj9fq 6 лет назад +4

    I have to say that I'm not a fan of the finger grooves although I just went in to buy a Gen 3 G19 yesterday. I think one of the big things is that as in a car or a cell phone, some folks might expect a new updated gun model to be radically different. Well, there's only so much you can do with a semi-auto pistol as far as improvements and I'm one of those people who say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it'. My Gen 1 G17 is also just fine. You gotta remember that for those of us who've been around a while, the original G17 took quite a while before it gained respect as a solid, well made pistol, people didn't wanna trust the 'new plastic pistol.' If Glock were to have made the Gen 5 a complete, radical change and departure from the original Gen 1 then they would have to have overcome that same resistance to change they experienced in the mid 80's.

  • @UncleHashy
    @UncleHashy 2 года назад +4

    Got the glock 23 gen 5. I was under the assumption that it was just the same as other generations. And while the saying still goes "a glock is a glock." I must say there are some great features that they added. The dual slide release is really nice, the new texture while not game changing is definitely different. I think it changes the over all feeling of the gun. If you haven't shot prior generations and you buy the gen 5 as your first glock, you probably won't know any better. But as someone who's shot nothing but glocks since I was a little kid, I can tell you the subtle differences were worth the extra cash.

  • @drmitofit2673

    At 9:05 the rear sight notch is wider which helps aiming because there are now adequate light bars on either side of the front post. And the notch is also deeper so now you can seen the entire front dot instead of only 2/3rd (a gripe of mine). The new rear sights have the height stamped inside the notch in mm instead of the hash marking code on the side of the sight. 6.5 mm = "--" (single hash mark). To make room for the wider and deeper notch, the white outline is thinner, which helps a bit in focusing on the front sight dot. Although simple, this is one of the best Gen 5 improvements that few people are talking about.

    Great review Sootch. I went out and bought the gen 5. I love it. I like what you said about Glock not making major changes, people liked the Glock so why change it majorly. The flared, beveled Magwell is better than the standard and the trigger is much better. Finger grooves people complained about in gen 4 videos, I remember that. Glock was even nice enough to send you three magazines and made s barrel more accurate that no one even complained about. Yeah they didn’t flush the frame to the slide but it still holsters easier and that was the point right? Sootch thank you for giving a positive review on this gun because I think they just fine tuned something they made right the first time.

    I'm really glad you did this review Sootch. Of all the ones I've watched so far, and there are quite a few, yours addressed the new design changes the best. Glock has been producing "bullet proof" firearms for years and doesn't have to re-invent the wheel, so to speak, to come out with their newest generation pistol. They simply make improvements to keep their customer base happy.. They listen to what people want then put it out there. I think they've hit another home run with the new Gen5.

    I just bought a Gen 5 Glock 19 MOS and found that all of your stated concerns have been resolved with the latest batch of Gen 5’s. The front of the frame has been beveled to match the slide, the cutout on the grip has been removed, and front slide serrations have been added. My sights were aligned perfectly, although they’ll be replaced with co-witnessing sights, because of the RMR. The trigger is great! (IMHO) Overall, I love it!

Let’s take away an inch of barrel to reduce ballistic performance and an inch of sight radius so it’s less accurate with irons, but leave it on the G17 frame which is way more difficult to conceal than a 19 and has a weird angle that doesn’t fit most shooters hands.

    Excellent review. I would love to see front slide serrations. Also, for that size, when it comes to capacity ( 19 rounds) and ergo, the XDM 9 still wins. I like the finger grooves removal. In my review of the G19 Gen 4, years ago, I called it an imposing feature. The barrel changing? Not revolutionary. They are just trying to get the share of after market created by themselves, for offering the Polygonal only version all these years. The magwell enlarging seems to be a problem "to some"already. Not everybody is in competition or LEO. The bottom end of the grip seem to not fit good in medium hands. Well, but the road to perfection is here.... just not quite there yet.

      Functions yes... accurate no. Glock, especially Gen IV Glocks, seriously suck for speed and accuracy. My factory Walther PPQ M2 beats my Glocks hands down and without ANY modifications. Whereas, my Glocks ALL require aftermarkets inners to make them as accurate and fast as my Walther PPQ M2.
      Glocks are fine for run-of-the-mill shooting... to include up close and personal CQC combat. However, for best speed accuracy... I will never recommend a factory Glock. Considering how much one has to spend (for Glock internal upgrades), one should merely buy a more efficient handgun for $700-900 USD. Simple as that.
      Proof is in the pudding... and Glock is to blue collar as better handgun manufacturers are to white collar.

Not so great for a self-defense gun, especially considering there are many other pistols that are much less susceptible to limp wristing malfunctions.

      I think instead of having "generations" that insult their own past products, Glock should simply offer "options." I was told the Gen4 was indestructible perfection for 7 years. Now this? Come on!
      The opening at the front of the bottom of the grip (to allow one to rip out the mag), as you point out -- terrible!!!! That alone is a reason I will not purchase a Gen 5. Will pinch even during firing!!!
      No finger grooves AND this huge hole at the bottom of the grip? How can that be preferable to the Gen4 with finger grooves and no hole at the bottom?
      That's a Gen 2 thing that many hated.
      There is no question most of these changes are, indeed, "changes" or "options" that are personal preference things, not necessarily "upgrades".

    • @theartofprepping
      @theartofprepping 7 лет назад +1

      Heisenberg White good points, I'm on board with your thinking. This gen 5 is like a modernized throwback hybrid. I tried to like this new format but going to stick with previous generations. As many people have said, the double stack Glocks feel blocky, this new generation attempts to deal with that but it ended up with a thicker gun than before. I don't want ambidextrous slide release / lock, I want a slimmer gun. They need to make in my opinion a setup just for left handed people, this will keep the gun from getting so thick. I also like front serrations, and I agree that the cutout in the grip is not desirable. If your going to add a means to strip out a mag in the case of a malfunction, put the darn cutouts on the sides. The Sig P320 does a good job of this.

    Underwhelmed? Heck no, this lefty here is excited!!
    I may finally join the dark side and buy my first Glock after years of wishing for one with a lefty slide release. Lol

      As a lefty I always wished Glock would release a version with ambi controls but after owning 2 gen 4's for a long time I'm used to just sling shotting the slide.

      As a left handed Glock shooter, you have no more reason to switch now then you did for any of the previous generations. If you need ambi controls as a south paw, you should probably just not own firearms. It's not hard to use your index finger to work the releases.

      Germ .Fish I wouldn't go that far. Us southpaws have it pretty rough in this right handed world. On most things we don't have a choice but to adapt to right handed tools. It would just be nice to comfortably use them. I'm not going to run out and get a Gen5 for the ambi slide release, I'm fine with sling shotting the slide. Even on my VP9 that has full ambi controls i inadvertently still sling shot it and forget that there's a slide release on the right side of the gun in the moment of reloading. None of my AR's have left handed controls. I've adapted to the right handed controls in a way that works for me.

      Don't think of it as a slide release. It is a 'Slide Stop Lever.' It is meant for you to use when locking the slide back, not as a quick way of releasing the slide forward after a magazine change. The recoil spring is not under full tension when you release the slide stop lever, so the chances of you creating a 'fail to feed' malfunction are greater when you use this part as anything other than a tool to lock the slide open.

      John Countryman don't you have to have like a screwdriver to take out the magazine on a AR there

    I know this is an old review. I just picked up a new 19, Gen 5 and there are a few changes that have been made. First is that the cutout at the front base of the grip has been removed so there is nothing to pinch on. Next is the addition of seven front serrations on the slide so it is easier to grip the slide to do a press check. The third change is the grip frame has been beveled at the front to match the slide. The barrel on my new 19 does have the recessed crown and regular lands and grooves. These small improvements just make the new 19, Gwn 5 that much better.

    They made changes to the Glock 19 Gen 5 slide/rail spacing, so when disassembling the slide doesn't have to slide all the way off the front. It can surprise you by rolling off the frame before you expect it. I always field strip on a TEKMAT, so no damage when this happened to me the first time. Now I expect it. If you drop a Glock slide to hard ground and it lands on the thin section that retains the front of the recoil spring guide, you can end up with unrepairable slide damage.
