I’ve carried one for years without ever knowing how exactly the mechanism works. That changed today, thanks to your impossibly detailed explanation. Thanks brother, I appreciate you 🤙🏼
So beautiful. As a machine designer, this is truly a masterpiece. Every feature is meticulously selected for to achieve a defined purpose. The precision required to make the parts work in unison is astonishing. I can picture the countless hours the designers must have spent pondering over something as seemingly trivial as the shape of extractor or the diameter of the spring. Thank you for the detailed animation.
HAAA! Wow, I’m so glad to know there are other people like me who appreciate how extraordinary such machinery is... I have a degree in design technology, so I’ve actually done the CAD drafting of stuff with extremely close tolerances, and to this day it blows me away- I’m in awe of the designers, manufacturers, and inventors of all this stuff. Whenever I walk into the copy room at work, I feel like I’m in a temple! 😎
@@JamesMathison triggers without the trigger safety can be accidentally discharged from a "side glance" from your finger or an object hitting the trigger. You have to have a continuous steady intentional pull to discharge the trigger safety on a Glock. Make sense?
Silver Grizzly , sure. Whenever I’ve shot (not that often, I’m a Brit :-/ ) the trigger has needed plenty of pressure, so I didn’t think a side glance would be enough of a danger to warrant a whole design around it. But if it is, then fair enough.
@@JamesMathison I'd be willing to argue this is a good reason to have a trigger safety. ruclips.net/video/747_rz-qE4w/видео.html Guy shot himself in the leg unholstering his pistol for a "quick draw". Legit props Matt! Over 500hrs to create this peerless functioning demonstration definitely shows. Masterpiece of engineering and 3D animation. Thank you.
Glock is the most hopeless shit I've ever seen. Think about what will happen if dirt gets inside in combat conditions? Mud will not allow you to lower the barrel to reload and you will not be able to raise the barrel if there is earth or sand above the barrel. The trigger will not be able to lower the foot to lower the striker on the spring if a small pebble falls under the foot. This gun is for "Airsoft", only for sports shooting and sterile combat in space. Rare shit, absolutely not suitable for war.
The actual definition of simplistic is “ treating complex issues and problems as if they were much simpler than they really are.” I know making this kind of video is not simple but they make it look like it. Thats all I meant But yes they do an amazing job at making it so plain and easy to understand. Love this content.
No idea how I missed these for so long. If you are doing the scripts, animation and narration on all of this yourself, I'm sort of boggled at how much work these must be. This rivals something a large production company would have, with a team of animators and editors.
RITTMAN !!! SO...YOU are the guy who did the world's best animated AK-47 a couple years ago! This GLOCK Looks to be just as clean and easy to follow....I can hardly wait !!!
Matt Rittman Could you please do more firearms and/or other tools (such as tasers, pepper spray, maybe military/police equipment)? This would be so great to see turn into a long term series.
I've had my Glock 17 Gen 5 for several years and I love it. A LOT of rounds through it without a single jam or misfire. What I REALLY like about this firearm is how easy it is to disassemble, clean and reassemble.
Not necessarily, the two are correlated but few parts doesn't prevent issues, only gives less opportunities for a failure that affect the function of the whole (ie fewer dependancies). You could have a simple design that easily jams or in which a component is too weak for repeated stess cycles or hotter loads or too stiff or sticky and won't cycle with weaker loads. And if a single part serves multiple functions its the number of functions not the number of parts that contributes to increasing the number of dependancies.
@@alexanderx33 lol... yes theoretically you can design something simple and poorly.. thanks We are talking about glocks, not some bullshit Brazilian striker fired junk or a Turkish unlicensed clone

Yeah, well, it's by comparison. And these modern firearms aren't exactly the first ones in history. More than one person has been involved in the design and development of firearms in general.
This is the greatest thing that I've ever seen and I'm dead serious. I know very little of firearms outside of Battlefield, so I had to watch this four times to piece it all together. But when it all finally clicked, only then was I truly able to appreciate the magic that it is this video. Awesome.
This truly should be like a standard video every glock owner must watch when making the purchase. I just got my first Glock 43 recently and have been incredibly hesitant to carry with one in the chamber due to their apparent "lack" of a traditional safety. The animations and clear explanations in this video were able to get rid of my fears of an accidental discharge. Amazing work.
Not being American, I’ve never owned a firearm but can appreciate the excellent engineering here. For the same reason, I’ve always owned automatic watches. 🥰
Not many are a fan of guns until you shoot two of the same type of weapon and if you love the engineering aspect you are already a gun lover you just don't know it yet :) The differences in between firearms is all engineering I own almost 30 firearms now because they are all so unique and the science behind them are amazing. I am not saying run out and buy one but go to a range that rents them and you will buy one afterwards lol. Unless they rent you a full auto and then you will go home mad when you find out you actually have to be a millionaire to own one and don't mind waiting a year or more to even think about actually getting it. That is a whole other topic tho lol Go try one and even if you don't turn into a fan it will make you appreciate the engineering behind it even more.
It's not common for presentations with this many views to be as factual, detailed, and precise as this one. I'm extremely impressed by this creator's knowledge of Glock pistols and his ability to communicate their operation to someone like an unexperienced journalist who might not understand guns at all. It's extremely important to know how reliable and safe the action of this pistol is, and why it is copied by so many companies. It is one of the most popular handguns for civilians, military, and law enforcement for good reason. Glocks are affordable, reliable, light, safe, durable, have an enormous aftermarket availability of spare parts & accessories, an extremely good reputation, the ability to change calibers, and good magazines. It is absolute NONSENSE that countries want to ban them, while having absolutely no respect for their quality, design, and the human right to own something as simple as handguns for self defense.

They're designed to stop the gun from firing without the trigger being pulled, it's different from the lock traditionally called the safety on guns which blocks the trigger being pulled. In older guns there was a chance of them firing if dropped or just randomly the three safeties mentioned guard against this.
It took me an embarrassingly long time to notice glocks don't have hammers to pull back like many other guns. I'm a 1911 fan, and when watching another video I realized "Wait, it doesn't have a hammer, is it inside the slide frame?" So I came to this video and was astonished at the alternative way to fire a bullet. Great animation!
I’d like to see what happens when you get in your car and your glock goes off in the holster and shoots you in the leg. Just how the safeties allow that to happen.
Been carrying Glocks since 1995, Roos is terribly mistaken. Keep your finger, garment whatever off and out of the trigger period!! Roos is just another Glock hater.
Great video for anyone getting comfortable with carrying while you have a round in the chamber. You can actively see how the internal safeties make it impossible for the gun to discharge on accident. The trigger *has* to be pulled, no amount of shaking, dropping, or slamming will discharge that round.

Good to hear that brother.
I admit I hate the trigger safety design...till I watched this! thanks great vid
Still seems odd to have a safety on the trigger. Is it just to stop it from going off if it’s dropped on the ground?
@@JamesMathison triggers without the trigger safety can be accidentally discharged from a "side glance" from your finger or an object hitting the trigger. You have to have a continuous steady intentional pull to discharge the trigger safety on a Glock. Make sense?
Silver Grizzly , sure. Whenever I’ve shot (not that often, I’m a Brit :-/ ) the trigger has needed plenty of pressure, so I didn’t think a side glance would be enough of a danger to warrant a whole design around it. But if it is, then fair enough.

This rivals something a large production company would have, with a team of animators and editors.

just like the AK.
@@alexanderx33 lol... yes theoretically you can design something simple and poorly.. thanks

3 safety even without safety switcher, what a genius designer.
