How about Rakim's The Saga Begins?!?
@@21street-erfication90 Pete Rock produced that one
@@Gez2wo9ine You're right...I appreciate the correction!!!
@@21street-erfication90 the saga begins.. fiiire
This is dope, and i wanna hear the story about "New York" so bad, that beat gives you the exact feeling walking around in NY streets
'New York' was the one I hoped he would cover as soon I saw Rakim's name! One of my fave Preemo beats OAT!
Exactly!
Same here! A favourite Primo beat!
“High-tech dialect you ain’t catch yet.” I went to college in the Bronx solely because of that record (and the record stores).
Ans New York State of Mind Part 2
This series will go on for infinity. So many beats. So many stories.
american here, you fuck with this show or
Let's hope it does 🤣
Would love to hear everything about Group Home "Supastar" All time favorite Preemo-production
Can’t wait too one of my fav beats
Or livin' proof. One of the hardest beats ever
That beat was nuts. 👍
My 1st and 2nd hip hop 12” purchases. Gotta have doubles.
Rakim actually gave the story in his book “Sweat the Technique.” You gotta hear his version too.
Great book
"Ask the teenagers, OG's and nasty kids
What their definition of "classic" is
Timeless, so age don't count in the booth
When your flow stay submerged in the fountain of youth"
Rakim is something different. His lyrics go beyond conscious, or clever.
90's Rakim is so much fun. His lyrics from that time are underrated, for sure.
@@gyozakeynsianism Rakim was the main person responsible for bringin lyricism and all kinds og multi rhyme scenes to hiphop. I think its enough for him hoc he is considered a god in his own culture && I mean that would be the most important thing to me, being that in my own culture
@@gyozakeynsianism The God MC Rakim Allah
*Ask the kids
We need to hear the story of Afu-Ra - Defeat, one of DJ Premier's illest productions. A beat that really shows who's the king of sample chopping. I'd love to hear Premier get more technical in this series and explain how the beats were made.
Cosign this
One of my fav primo beats right there!
Yeah we're getting nothing on the actual production. I wanna see these running on the MPC!
I agree. Wanna see the ins and outs, what made him choose the sample, how he found the sample etc.
Man I thought yo damn profile pic was an eye lash on my damn screen lmao
I would love to see a So Wassup? on Mathematics from Mos Def.
I'll be surprised if he doesn't do one on Mathematics. He's GOT to have an episode on it in store for later.
@@dmaster5556 he has! That track is so classic
This is one of my fav tracks from Ra. He flows over that beat so effortlessly, dropping barrrrs. It wraps up perfectly too
“At night the open mic be inviting me to rhyme,
So yo I’m online, it’s been a long time…”
Would love to see a breakdown of some JERU the Damaja off Wrath Of The Math! 'Whatever' and 'Me Or The Papes' and 'Me Not the Paper' 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Me Not The Paper is hands down one of the illest Jeru and Preemo ever did. Searched for that 12" for weeks when it dropped
You catch ep 1? It’s with Jeru, different joint though
@@adamlandry3593 I didn't, thank you will check!
Me Not The Paper is one of the top 7 beats Premo ever did and one of the best remixes EVER period!!!
Eric B and Rakim's music used to make me feel like a man even though I was 13 years old
We need a Rakim/Preemo album.
Definitely over due.
would be so illlll
I think it would be amazing
I Also Love "When I B On The Mic" From His The Master Album....
My favourite DJ talking about a song he did with my favourite MC...These videos are food for the soul in an era when soul is missing in a majority of hip hop. I'm grateful for this. :)
Word. I'm glad I stumbled upon this channel.
Same bro. I’m a nerd for this stuff.
Preemoo, can you please explain more about inspirations for filling in dope beats with damn good lyrics?
I grabbed the 18th Letter when i was about 15, straight coincidence i discovered it at a local CD store and instantly knew this is the shit even i never heard of Rakim or Premier before.
Classic🔥
This shit is TIMELESS! I always thought The 18th Letter was underrated. That “Catchin diabetes from fly sweeties” line amongst others were so dope. That “Stay Awhile” joint was different for his style but just showed how universal he was, and it just worked. All of that material was bangin. Rakim is one of those dudes like KRS or Chuck D that you just can’t fuck with, PERIOD. Lyrically he’s no doubt one of the best.
Thank you for continuing this whole series Preemo. I got two RUclips accounts and I’m subbed to your channel on both of em. That way when you drop some new shit I’m sure not to miss it from the jump. Keep killin it my dude!!!👍🏻💯💪🏼
Damn, it's my birthday today, I can't believe how happy this makes me. Salute the Gods!
Rakim the GOAT 🤴🏿👍
Primo ! You are an incredible (real) story teller ! We can sit and listening to you for hours.
Classic Material. I wish Preem would to a whole R album
Damn, scared me for a sec Preem! Almost thought you went on vacation this week lol
*patiently waits on a video about Fat Joe's - The Shit Is Real Remix*
facts
Been waiting for an episode on a Rakim joint. Thank you for the series, Premo!!
He takes along time because of he is a lyrical master. Rakim and Big Daddy Kane will always have the top spot on my Top 3, and then Black Thought.
Gotta do one of these for Speak Ya Clout
Rakim is the GOAT love the NEW YORK flow
We need a full RAKIM album produced by Preemo.. When I be on the mic is my favourite shit ever STILL
“We” ain’t rakim lol Rakim didn’t do one with Dre he may not want all preemo beats. I would personally like to hear Dj Eric b with preem, and Kanye do his album
Wanna Nas - NY State of Mind
Rakim the GOAT
I wrote a rhyme to this beat a few years ago. Wish I had my notebook. I was rlly lyrical and clever. Rakim was my idol.
Thee ALL TIME top three greatest MC’s EVER are 1. Rakim, 2. KRS One, 3. NAS!
And who worked with all Three MC’s for countless hours in the studio? Preem! Bravo Zulu to you DJ Premier for your tireless dedication and passion to our HIP HOP culture! We salute you for your inspirational work and you are truly recognized as one of the pioneers of hip hop. We need real Hip Hop like we need oxygen. Thank you so much my brother!!! Peace-
Oh, and to the “Bald Head Slick”
Rest In Peace brother Guru!
I wanna see a Verzuz with Rakim against one of his peers from the late 80s. Only problem is, who from that era could possibly see Rakim? KRS-One or Chuck D probably
The stabs on that song were powerful
I'm surprised you didn't do a whole album with him.
@djpremier speaking of the god mc (plus others) i can't wait for you to do an episode on the beat you did for nike's 'classic' - another monster!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The fact that Preemo let us know that his favorite rapper will never be changed gives me even more reasons to have him as my favorite producer of all time. Rakim is definitely the greatest of all time, and like preemo said, this will never be changed!
I love this series and love hearing the backstory of how they all came together. One of my favorite songs you have done is "Nas Is Like", any chance we get a video on that?
Can we please get a time machine & drop our cell phones in the garbage & go back in time 🙏🏽🙏🏽 🎤🎤 🥀🥀 😭😭 RAKIM # 1
One of my less favorite Premo beats tbh.
Rakim‘s „Waiting for the world to end“, „When I b on the mic“ or „New York“ are FAR better and harder beats imo!
It's getting Super Boring watching these same story telling videos...Premo! Just make the beat over on the vids or at least play the actual Disc you are showing live like Mo-bee. Come on bro be crazy if you delete this comment.
"The crowd couldn't wait to see this, nobody been this long awaited since Jesus. Who wouldn't believe this?"
Dopeness! A hardbody track! 2 of my favorite producers in the same video! Preemo and 9th Wonder (Peep the shirt!)
cant wait for When I B On Tha Mic
FAYBAN please.
Screwball or Blaq Poet would be dope.
I still remember the first time I heard F.A.Y.B.A.N. on the Black Mask soundtrack in late 1999. Absolute fire! That track still to this day gets me so hyped up. Because of your comment earlier, I went to listen to it here on youtube and noticed another comment about the clean/radio version with Premier's edits of the curses. Here it is if you want to peep it: ruclips.net/video/FBJtST1FI1U/видео.html Peace!
One of my favorite RAKIM joints.
Simply cannot get enough of this series
My Dj cuts material , Grand imperial! Got this album in the collection.
For the people who gave this a thumbs down, it's clearly you don't know anything about real hiphop, go back to listening to your mumble rap
This is a very educational
Thank you so much for this Primo! Amazing song
Treal Classic... Treal History ... Thanks Always DJ Premier and Rakim...!!!
It hurts that my favorite artist aren't putting out new music anymore but I understand. I'll forever play the old stuff. Missing Rakim & Scarface
I think Scarface will put out another one but that Deeply Rooted was a masterpiece so he doesn't have to.
Even though I don't understand everything that Premo says about beatmaking, hearing his passion is such a joy!
you can tell how stoked he is to talk about Rakim
"When you loaded it into the S950 Sampler, you get this..."
When he said that, I really would like to hear the original sound. Maybe Premier playing around on the MPC...just having fun! It couldn't get any better!
PREEMO! Your Beats Life Forever! THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!
Salute to the LEGENDS
I want to hear about the "Rugged Neva Smoove" remix with M.O.P.
That's a dope production!
Could we get Ras Kass Goldyn Chyld remix?
Incredible to hear the illest producer in the game recount all these events so accurately. There are so many records of which I would like to know how they came about. Mobb Deep Cop Hell, Royce Da 5'9" Hiphop, Da Ranjahz - Inspiration, Ras Kass Goldyn Child, Pitch Black It's All Real, Paula Perry Extra Extra, All City - The Actual, Mos Def Mathematics, M.O.P. New Jack City, Jay-Z So Ghetto, Gang Starr The Militia, Above The Clouds, The L.O.X. - Recognize, Devin The Dude - Doobie Ashtray, Jaz-O & The Immobilarie - 718, Just Ice - Just Rhymin', Big Daddy Kane - Any Type Of Way, man there's just too many to name, on the real.
This is what Im talmbout! LOVE the 18th Letter, Preemo is my fav producer and Rakim is most definitely top 5 dead or alive💯✊
I've watched at least a dozen of these ... they are all gems
THANK YOU DJ PRIMO🔥👑 MASTER DJ, PRODUCER.... THE RAKIM OF DJs! Rakim Allah MY FAVORITE OF ALL
TIMES👑👑👑👑🔥🔥
I want to know about Speak ya Clout, gotta be a good story behind that
This channel is so dope!! Cuts and scratches is something that is so missing in today's hip-hop.
Damn... It's been a long time I've heard this.
Wanna hear the story on how Royces - Boom came together. That's an ESSENTIAL Preem track.
The way that the Marc Hannibal record was sampled, the way only Premier could do it, is something else. Not to mention Royce's verses.
These all old school floppy disc trackz
The Greatest ever…… PREEMO. ✌🏽❤️
Preemo and the God M.C. Can't get more hip-hop than that.
My favorite DJ, much respect.
Thanks DJ Premier for the history lesson, and knowledge. You don't have to do this, and we are grateful. Appreciate you sir.
Pitch Black - It's all real would be a baller video
My favorite Rakim song of all time the 18th Letter is also my favorite Rakim album
@f wam as a soloist it was Better than his 2 other albums
Who's that on his shirt? Kinda looks like 9th wonder
Preemo this series is like finding buried treasure
My biggest regret about this legendary track is that they never made a video to promote it
There was a video for it.swore I've seen it back in the day
@@mikeyz1080 if u ever find it come back here and post it please 👍
"AS OF NOW, THE ARE RE-UNITED"… SAY WHOOOOOOT?!
This ep is Puuuuuurrrrree Craaaaaaaaacccccckkkk am lit
Preemo really responsible for so much great music.
This series is great! Can't wait to see the "Kick in the Door" episode
One of my favorite songs of all time.. Didn't know you were behind the productions. Pure legend
It's a blessing to have such an artist explainning his creative process.
I'm loving these episodes, i watched all of them. thanks for sharing these cool stories a d giving us explanations behind the music :)
New Rakim album 7.19 This will set the record straight, and seal the debate, 80s hip hop and Rakim is better than Drake lol I just came up with that on the fly.. lol awesome!
Got damn. Premo's catalog is just nuts. This isn't the first track I think of when i think back on the R and Premier, but when you hear it now it just so dope. Both legends!!!
I found this track when Martin used it as his intro to one of his stand up specials and the first thing that caught me was the beat then Rakim's smooth delivery.
Been loving it ever since and it still gets play.
Netflix need to pick this up
Shit, time really flies. Its been a long time...
🔥🔥🔥
As a huge fan of the best producer ever, love these videos. Keep ‘em coming!
Raaaakiiiiim👑
Hmmmm.... Production quality JUMP!!!!!!! Not as excited to Ra as Prem... That says a lot G! 1986 10 years old I called myself Rock M!!! Till I heard him say no bitin allowed ... Between him and the beasties... Thanks again.. we givin you yo flower now at BKRepublic ... Let me know where to send'em.
Please break down 25th hour by reks
Premo with the dope story’s keep them coming 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I think this series is dope. And I think Premier is the best NY producer via Texas. But if I may throw my little two cents in, there are 2 types of DJ Premier production styles. One is where he'll give us some unique boom-bap that's customized for the artists like "Ain't The Devil Happy" or "Unbelievable" type uniqueness. Then secondly, he'll just make up some watered down Premier production like "Nas Is Like" or "Unorthodox" that he gave Joey Bada$$. And this track right here is one of those watered down quickly thrown together joints. That track "New York (Ya Out There)" on this same 18th Letter album is the super banger. And it should've been the lead single. Just my thoughts.
Music LISTENING too Class @ Home LOUD when I bring yur Parents in for On-Going Parenting n Adulting Classes. Plus Nite Shcool; College so they can Do Common Core. Lol Album Reviearwz. Might need a Whole RAP Music Class.
Whatever the "Awww-EEEEE-AHOOOOOOO-OWWWW" is in this song, it's the greatest weird Premo background sound effect of all time.
The God MC....Rakim was crazy nice...And one of my Top 3 rapperw of all time....And he was probably one of thee most influential rappers of All Time
✊🏿😏
This is cool but the Suave House version of It's Been A Long Time goes harder. First time i heard Rakim was Fall 1997 around the time the 18th Letter dropped. I was mostly No Limit,Suave House some East and West Coast sprinkled in but when i seen the "Guess Who's Back" video i was blown away by his lyricism. So i went to Sam Goody to cop this and In My Lifetime Vol.1 and the rest is history.
If Rakim would’ve put out music as often as Nas, he’d probably be in contention with Nas as the GOAT.
I have the double disc version that came with a massive fold out poster, and I have the vinyl.
I was in grade 11. MONUMENTAL to say the least, not just the actual LP, which is stellar, but to get those greatest hits together and really learn them. Literally Life Changing.
I think his most jaw dropping song is Lyrics of Fury.
