Primo, you forgot to mention being the 2nd hip hop group ever on The Tonight Show during the summer of 92 performing this. That was an important accomplishment

This song to me is one favorite Gang Star records. Guru’s rhymes and primo’s cuts just all time great.
The video for: "Take It Personal" is one of the best hip hop videos ever. It raised the bar for writing, directing and producing.
Just take notice of Guru portraying a mafioso boss in a very authentic way with absolutely zero corniness. He could have always transitioned to the silver screen if he wanted. He reminded me of the distinguished actor Adolph Caesar.

If Guru was alive it would be dope if they had Guru Verzus Rakim although a Kane VZ Rakim is what I really want to see.

@@AmariMarvelous I always thought Guru was an evolution of Rakim ; the solo M.C. who combined street swagger, cultural refinement, black consciousness and style originality all together in one persona on the microphone 🎙. It definitely would have been monumental to see them flow together and maybe even more monumental for Eric B and Primo to collaborate in the studio. 🤯
The moment that this album dropped was such a memorable time for hip-hop and “Take It Personal” x “DWYCK” were most definitely THE red hot rap songs of summer ‘92 right alongside Main Souce “Fakin’ The Funk” x Pete Rock & CL “T.R.O.Y” x Das Efx “They Want Efx” and definitely can’t forget Heavy D’s “You Can’t See What I Can See” x Super Cat “Ghetto Red Hot” remix! 💥🔥💥

This album was full of butters. I listen to the Soliloquy of Chaos, at least once a week. The imagery painted by Guru's lyrics, brings it to life.

Love how you clipped Puba saying "Honey DON'T take it personal" down for the hook, Primo. A great producer makes you hear what he wants you to hear.
Out of all those super classic gang starr had ,take it personal is my favorite by far , and trust me when this came out the competition was at it best , one of the greatest year in hip hop easily

I was a freshman in high school when this song and album first came out. This is bringing back so many high school memories. Those were the days.
The whole Hype Williams and Little X portion of this blew my mind. Especially knowing how big they got as their career continued. And if all started with them being apart of that camp. Love that Premier didn't leave that out. And I've course salute to the 💾. I appreciate Premier's stories overall with how vivid they are. Takes you back to those times. The "Take it personal" beat hit harder than concrete

I love to hear DJ Premiere tell stories about the beats he creates. I actually had the pleasure of talking to him on the phone about a lot of the dope beats he made. He told me some really cool stories.

This is my favorite Gang Starr track of all-time. The scratches on the chorus are mesmerizing and I could not for the life of me visualize how anyone could scratch that Brand Nubian (Grand Puba) sample so fast. The piano loop, the drum pattern, the monotone, smooth as silk rhymes by Guru (who I think is dissing YZ from Trenton, NJ) and Premo's scratches make for a perfect hip hop track.

This song was my intoduction to gangstarr. I been hooked ever sence. As simple as it is, take it personal is one of the greatest song titles of all time.
The half-measure flip of time signature between the verse and chorus blew my mind as a kid.

Preemo needs to write an in-depth book about his career. Everything about how he comes up with his signature scratches to what he looks for in a sample to how he goes about how he makes his beats. These “so wassup” episodes just don’t go in depth enough about the history of the music he is making.

Preem......you changed my life. I was born in 81, and when I discovered hip hop I lived in Appomattox VA. Only good thing there was that's where the Civil War ended...and I found hip hop.. I was just a white boy from evangelical Christian family surrounded by genre of music that blew my mind. I had no idea what sampling was even though I was doing it with a cassette deck from songs of the radio. Looping and building. You are a true master and ill never be anywhere close to you even though I got production skills and can play instruments. Just.... thanks man. I hope to meet you one day or in another life. Thank you.

Even my children love the title track and other songs on the album. The title track is my all time favorite song and always will be. PLEASE! I remember exactly where I was when I first heard this beat/song. I was visiting a girl I was seeing at in the Bronx and some dude in a car with a dope speaker system was blasting a Ron G mixtape playing this joint. I was blown away and bought the album asap!!!

The cornball ass promoter came over while I’m spinning and complained because he didn’t know the song - he only wanted me to play “hits” - the idiot didn’t realize he was complaining about one of the best b-side bangers in hiphop history

I remember to u guys from late 80s 'Just to get a Rep, & all thru the 90s. Got my teenage swag from Guru, Kango hat, lines in the eyebrows was my thing, I seen Guru pull it off well. The ladies Loved it, lol. Pumping Ex to the Next, & Mass appeal on Broadway Bushwick. Then starstruck after seeing Guru in the village NYC. MIND U I SEEN MANY FAMOUS PEOPLE & NEVER STARSTRUCK. & My younger brother seen him in a Barbershop in East NY BK. We're in 2022 & I'm still bumping the same swag & music. Daily Operation still is on regular rotation here, but I'll always remember these drives I used to have to make from NYC to Boston on the weekends and that Daily Operation tape getting its fair share of play time. Always remember I'd hit Bridgeport CT and B.Y.S. would come on, I'd know I was almost there

a lotta people don’t know, but that drum break ain’t a direct sample from the skull snaps. in fact, it’s a sample from the intro to “it’s my turn” by the late Connecticut hip hop artist Stezo.
you can tell because there’s a little “bump” sound effect (the needle accidentally being hit, perhaps?) in “my turn”, which in turn shows up on take it personal
Now that I think about, you may be right. Stezo is a New Haven legend. Shout out to anybody from CT.
