I agree. I wish when I was younger I had adults that knew how to take care of my hair/taught me. I’m 31 and I finally just learned what my hair likes and started to retain the most length I’ve ever had, in the last 3 years!! I never miss a deep condition or trim. I also control the temperature on my heating tools and bonnet/satin pillow case, all of which I learned from you so thank you Kee! It’s so weird to me that I get compliments now on how thick, healthy, and long my hair is now because I’ve never been that girl

Also if you swim: wet your hair down before you enter the pool/ocean. If it's already soaked up clean water, it absorbs less of the chlorine/salt water.

We started her locs when she was 9 and they are healthy and thick she washes and oils it once a week and she wears a big silk bonnet to bed every night. We only retwist it maybe 4-5x a year. My child had straight to mildly wavy hair when she was little. She actually had her head shaved when she was about 10 (just because she wanted to) and then suddenly when she was 14/15 and it was fully grown out it was curly! We were both shocked about that and she’s been a curly girl ever since 😂

I have a 6 year old & a 14 year old. For the youngest, we keep a protective style with a little extra added hair for longevity & so her ends are protected when we do beads. We only press her maybe twice a year. For the oldest, she loves her knotless & then we rock a press for 2 weeks to give her hair a break & trim ends. We're pretty lowkey in our house & the protective styles help momma & her carpal tunnel out, lol. I also make our bonnets & a satin pillow cases. I literally do it all to save us some coins, so I truly appreciate every single helpful video you post! You really are the mvp!

Every two weeks of shampoo, conditioner, blow dry press and curl . I did this until I got a job and went to the hairdresser every two weeks. I was never told to do deep conditioning or leave-in conditioner.

I have 2yr old twin girls😅 and we do wash n gos every Sunday. I have 2 mannequin heads and have been to a braiding workshop because flat twists don't last long enough and having 2 girls it's a MUST to know how to braid fr! We've never blow-dried straight but we diffuse on cool/warm low alternating heat. My girls have different textures and lengths. One of my girls hates any clips or ties in her hair so luckily her hair is short and doesn't need it (suits her too!) . Both my girls don't like covering their hair at night so both cribs are covered with satin crib sheets. Both have had hair cuts because of the way that placenta perm and mild cradle cap left their curls struggling so one of my girls is growing out a curly bob 🥰😍 .. had both grandmas critique and criticize the choices i made with my daughters hair referring to their curls as "nigga naps" and "tuff 4c" but I've perfected their wash n gos and now their asking me what I do and what do I use.. 🤐 & I'm about to go buy your book on Amazon now because breaking generational curses is a MUST!

Love this ❤. My tips are to understand your little ones individual hair needs. Often two children in the same family have differences with what their hair requires. I minimze the use of direct heat, tend to use blow drying for winter. I have found summer sun, causes the same heat problem, so I air dry during warm seasons. I deep condition biweekly, alternate between shampoo and cowash products monthly. I take hair bands, bobbles out for sleeping so nothing is pulling on the hair when sleeping. I don't use castor oil anymore, it caused a scalp infection because it was too thick. I use a very light oil on the scalp once a week, with a good quality hair moisturising product. I dob twists in their natural, or very low maintenance styles for school. I use extensions 2x a year for only 6 weeks. Along with necessary trims, it seems to be working 🤷🏾‍♀️😁

Her hair is very easy to straighten and the reason I do is because only her ends are slightly curly. Has been since she was a baby. I cannot braid, do I do plaits into ponytails or a couple ponytails. Currently we are battling more dandruff than normal. Dermatologist said due to puberty and hormones. But my sixth grader is natural and retaining length like crazy. Satin pillowcases, bonnets, less manipulation and Rosemary oil for a doing the trick

My daughter has been on a hair journey since birth. I blow dried her hair for 3x ever last week and she will be 11 in 4 days and was just for some length retention and not for a bone straight look. Until recent I would wash, condition and give her s medium twists for about 2-3 weeks and then repeat wash day and maybe give her some ponytails. The ponytail faux hawk would be a special treat to jazz up her style. Now that she’s in middle school I have done the s medium all natural individual braids, Bantu nots in the front and the braids in the back and then transition that to a braid out in the back with Bantu nots in the front….. like a half up half down to show off her length. She currently has s medium notless braids with 2 braids of pink so that she can enjoy playing with color before enter the corporate world and being told what’s not acceptable.
I don’t use gels or braid gels. We don’t care about “perfect” hair over here. Heck, I can barely part hair and she’s okay with that. She doesn’t care that I can’t do all the trendy styles and I don’t let many people touch her hair. I’m extremely slow at styling her hair , not on purpose and she’s okay with that. We spend that time bonding and watching family movies or tv together. She’s proud of her hair, not because of the length but because it’s healthy and because I take the time to take care of her. I mainly use a wide tooth comb and then transition into the Felicia Leatherby Detangler brush. I do own a parting comb but I only use it to part the hair. I use hair crème with oils to style her hair and hair grease is my braid gel. I thank the natural hair communities for everything they taught me 2008 - 2012 to be prepared for this task.

My 12 year old was natural up until a year ago. Her hair is naturally 4b/4c. Unfortunately, just one year of at home relaxers has done so much damage and caused so much breakage-especially down the center of her head. (Like reverse Mohawk breakage) I didn’t even put together the chlorine damage until you just mentioned it. That is when her hair really declined and so much fell out. Anyway, no relaxers for 3 months so far..this is bout when we would touch up so she wants another because she likes her hair straight. For now, my hair goal is to get her hair back healthy because what you said about being responsible for the one causing damage is real. I feel so bad, but it’s a journey like you said. I am learning. I’m actually right outside of Philly so we know where to go now! Your channel is a blessing for sure!

I totally agree with you as far as using a scalp oil and keeping our hair clean. Also, with castor oil, you will also do #2 (LOL) on a regular basis. My Aunt Juanita kept my hair also, so I am glad to see this effort being paid forward. You ALWAYS do a great job. Thank you for the commentary that is soothing and informative.😁🥰

Prior to teen years my hair journey was horrific & traumatizing with my mom. From middle school to adulthood my aunt did my hair...she was so awesome with twist, braiding& detangling as i was super tender headed. My aunt passed away dec. 20th 2014 and every since then I've been adding to the hair education she gave me. But its been hard. I went back natural, hair is a thick big curly beast and I know my aunt would be proud. She used to say Healthy hair is the Best hair. ❤

I love the fact that you did a video like this it shows that I'm not the only black girl out there with damaged hair a lot of times you see these content creators doing hair on girls that have beautiful healthy hair so I love the fact that you did a girl's hair that looks more like mines I've been searching to look for a hair stylist to get me back healthy and on the right path with my hair it's just that I'm not trusting a lot of people touching my hair because past trauma that I experience going to hair salons but thank you for making a video like this because all girls don't have healthy thick hair

I love this video because we all have and will make mistakes with our hair (relaxers, short hair cuts, etc) and then we have to learn how to grow it back so we can be whoever we want to be without worrying over our hair.
P.S. this lady doing her hair right there, is such a lovely person

Awww... look at your neice, she's beautiful and her hair is very healthy. May she have an awesome school yr. I have an 8 yr old and I used to do her hair every week but that was too much so I put it in braids and do it once/ month. I oil her scalp but I need to get some more jamaican castor oil, it is the truth.
