  • UK flag carrier British Airways boasts a large and diverse fleet of aircraft. The London-based oneworld founding member has more than 250 aircraft at its disposal, with a further 23 at its regional subsidiary, BA CityFlyer. In 2022, we see the Airbus A380 return to widespread service at the airline, following a pandemic-induced hiatus. Let’s take a deeper look at the entire British Airways fleet as it stands this year…

    As BA crew, I worked on: Boeing 747/757/767/777/787 and Airbus A319/320/321/380 during my time with BA. As a passenger I have flown on them all, as well as the one type I did not work on, the A350 as I now commute from London to Accra for work, and the A350 is periodically used on that route.

    I flew with British Airways from Heathrow to Lusaka and back (a route they don't do anymore) in 2006 and 2007. I think it was a Boeing 777. In 2007 we circled London for about an hour because there was a long queue for landing at Heathrow. I got a great view of the city but it's not the best experience waiting for an hour to land after a 10 hour flight from Lusaka. I got my connection to Dublin with Aer Lingus though. But I had to book a hotel in Dublin beforehand because the flight got in too late to get a train back to Galway, where I was living at the time.

At this time BA is operating the A350 on this flightnumber and I was sceptical to fly my first A380 flight ever. - Finally now, the schedule shows they are servicing BA107 with the A380 from the 27th of March! - I couldn't be more excited!!
    BA changed the original return flight, advertised B787, to a B777 as I can see today tho, so equipment changes do still occur.

    When I was a teenager I flew Sydney to NYC via LA on the VC10. In those days B.A. was known as B.O.A.C. (early 70’s) Don’t remember a lot except because of a long layover at LAX (I think around 7 hours) I was given a room at the Sheraton Hotel plus a meal in their restaurant! Imagine that happening today. Since then I’ve been on their 747, and 777’s. They get a lot of flack for Business class product because up until very recently their 2-4-2 layout was the most crowded, however I never found the seat/bed uncomfortable and the service/food never less than very good and frequently excellent. So far my best business class experience has been with Air France/KLM.

I’d love to have tried the Viscount, Comet, VC10 and Concorde - too late now! In my experience, the Boeing twin aisle types don’t hold a candle to the A330 and A340 for quietness and passenger comfort. Favourite BA types? Probably the E190 and A320. Least favourite? Probably the 757, which felt unstable, and which sounded in the cabin as if someone had left a window open.

    • @andiscott8470
      @andiscott8470 2 года назад

      @@911HRW Nothing to do with the hight (which is the factor which is important when mentioning showers and bars) it is because of the reduction in width on the upper deck. If you take the 777 for example, the old club seat has 8 across in 2-4-2. The new Club Suite is now 1-2-1 and the aisle is already “snug” between the columns of seats. Upper deck old club world on the 380 is already down to 2-3-2 configuration so the current new Club Suite won’t fit without losing a column of seats and putting a half hight bulkhead down the middle of the cabin for the middle single seats to face against. BA won’t sacrifice the capacity to do it.

    Club world business on the 777....it takes a special kind of bastard to create and build such a horrid configuration...like no storage space and you're literally staring at the next person during take and landing....this is right up there with Unites 777-200er with their eight a breast business class

      Literally just flew this 2 days ago on a 787. What a horrific design. Not only do you have to stare at someone, but if you are in the middle seat, you have to climb over other passengers to get out of your seat. What were they thinking?!?! The Club World Suite on the 777 is a massive improvement.

      @@neillthornton1149 and it took them so long to start retrofitting their wide-bodies like they were committed to that look...the A350s are just night and day....

    the legacy British full service carrier should resume the all Business® class service to New York (JFK) from London City (LCY) non-stop in their A321-200 Neo LR (if any) . . . BA should have taken the AIRBUS offer for additional refurbished A380-800 (ex-Air France & ex-Qatar Airways airframes) . . . operate the A380-800 on routes to India & South East Asia & also offer non-stop service between Mumbai (MUM) - Washington DC (IAD) & Hong Kong (HKG) - New York (JFK) via Delhi (DEL) . . . as they say, desperate times desperate measures . . . as for the B747-400 ER & B747-400 the most prudent move by British Airways at the time would be to acquire a fleet of 48 - 53 brand new B747-8I . . . the B747-8I would replace the legacy B747-400 and B777-200 ER . . .

    You don't speak about the british airways 747-8 freighter that they have keep for only 3 months

    • @andiscott8470
      @andiscott8470 2 года назад

      Because they were not BA aircraft. They were owned and operated by GSS under a BA World Cargo franchise agreement. The aircraft them self were absolutely nothing to do with BA in operational terms.

      Again, another franchise. Not BA fleet or aircraft or managed by BA, simply BA branded offering connections in South and Southern Africa.
