  • British Airways has a fleet of over 200 aircraft. In addition, it plans to welcome the Boeing 777X in the future. But what aircraft does it operate, what types are beginning to age, and what does the future look like for the carrier?

    BA should split their 777-200ER replacements 50/50 between the 777-8 and the A350-900 and activate their 777-9 options to replace the 747. A350-900s would arrive sooner and are badly needed to replace the LGW 772s and their ancient onboard product. Meanwhile, the 777-8 can serve the premium heavy LHR routes and replace the first class capacity of the LHR 772s.

      My thoughts exactly! The only thing I disagree is the A359. It would cost the airline more to retrain 772 pilots onto A359 if you slip it 50/50. Tho if push comes to shove maybe it would be financial feasible to go with your concept? Seeing as you need to maintain older aircraft maybe the maths turns out cheaper?

    I think British Airways is looking very carefully at the situation with the777-9. Given even the small chance of that plane's cancellation, the airline may have to seriously look at a 25+ plane order for A350-1000's as a replacement.

      I think buying the A350-900 will most likely happen with an order for about 30 planes, since it will allow cross-certification of flight, cabin and ground crews on both the A350-900 and A350-1000 simultaneously.

    • @davidcarter4247

      A350-1000 is a long way short of the capacity of a 777-9. If Boeing walks away from the 777-9 is will because it is leaving the commercial aircraft market totally. There is a market for a 747-8 and A380 replacement that the A350-1000 cannot fill. It would be about 300 aircraft. There are also 777-300 operators needing a capacity boost. The 777-8F might keep the 777-8 alive because the 8F is now vital to the air cargo industry as the largest freighter by volume on offer. The A350F can lift the load and carry it but its volume is significantly less than the Boeing. Volume offers versatility when the cargo is not dense.

      @@davidcarter4247 Doesn't make sense since the main problem of wide body in BA fleet is 777-200ER series. The direct replacement for those plane are A350-900 or 777-800 (not the 900 which is the direct replacement for 300 one). Considering the former is more available than the later which need certification, that seems like better option in short time.
      There is no problem with 777-300ER which are only one decades+ old at most and they are contend with A35K and A380 for high passenger capacity high demanding route.

      @@moharikram1687 The start of this thread was BA might have to buy the A350-1000 because of doubts over the 777-9. Point I was making is the 777-9 is not comparable with the A350-1000. The 777-9 has a place in the market as the largest airliner available. It is the closest thing to a VLA we have and is likely to be that way for decades to come. There are several hundred existing VLAs that will need to be replaced in addition to the more obvious market of a 777-300 replacement.

    • @NaenaeGaming
      @NaenaeGaming 7 месяцев назад +8

      Fit UltraFans on to an A350neo most likely, I can see a stretch happening too at some point, the A350 is already a more efficient design than the aging 777 airframe thanks to its lighter composite fuselage, so Boeing’s already losing out in that department, and the A350 is an objectively better aircraft for passenger comfort anyway
