My family was a “cult” with a psychopathic father as its leader. While the “cult” has long been dismantled and my father dethroned as its leader, I’m still impacted and healing from its subliminal and insidious ripples on my life.
Despite the pain and trauma, I don’t think I would’ve gained so much insight and wisdom on the human experience without it, so in that sense I’m grateful for the good and positive ways I’ve been able to grow from it and help others with what I’ve learned.

I’m starting to wonder if all families are tiny “cults”. 🤔🤔 It seems no matter what the family appears to be from an outsider’s perspective….there are always a few trying to escape or break fee ….from the ones who are incapable of “saying shit when their mouth is full of it” and owning accountability for themselves, and their actions 🥴😂😂😉
      Thanks for sharing…your story resonates…stay strong 💪🔥❤️☯️🖖

Is there any good definition then for a non-cult entity? Or is the entire social or even physical world a cult? So a person must empty his mind or do something utterly random to not be in a cult? Unless someone comes up with a cult of mind-emptying and a cult of doing random things?

And if it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t be ok during the insanity of this healing process. Bc of you I am ok not being ok. I cannot thank you enough for helping me and giving me a plan of action aka HOPE. I admire you and I appreciate you being nothing less than a huge blessing in my life. You are the man♥️

My "narcisstic family structure" family raised me in a religious cult. This is spot on. Cults are narcissist family structures on a larger scale. Same abuse tactics.

I belonged to a group that started off as what I'd describe as being a "New Agey" course. I now see similarities between this group and a cult. I realize that a lot of the behaviours of the group leaders could be described as being Narcissistic. There was a lot of love-bombing, programing, and gaslighting going on. Then I witnessed how people who figured out who the leaders really were (behind their charismatic and sparkly masks) and spoke up about it, were discarded. And then it was my turn to be kicked to the curb. And while I had become very dependent on the group and the leaders for my validation, I was relieved when it was over. It's taken me awhile to trust others again and reclaim who I really am. And watching Richard's Videos on Narcissism, has helped immensely with my recovery, along with therapy. These people know who they can pick on - the vulnerable, those feel lost, as well as others with codependency issues. The experience taught me a lot, and I hope never to go through it again!

I’m absolutely sure you must have read it Richard but for those who haven’t, Daniel Shaw’s book “Traumatic Narcissism, Relational Systems of Subjugation“ is illuminating. It’s geared more for the therapist but for anyone interested in understanding this more in-depth it’s a must. Shaw also is outspoken (in general)about his experience with a cult.

It is wrong to believe that narcissists can't be great film makers or great artists or great scientists ... I have met many narcissists excelling in something that is very important to them, and they were exceptionally good at or proficient in an activity or interest. Narcissists are crap at being good, caring partners, parents, bosses, humans. But they can be excellent performers in whatever they care about.

Yes, I agree, they have the ability to fully throw themselves into something bc in general everyday life & social connections, or keeping them, overall mean nothing to them, those are a waste of time in their minds. So they have the keen ability to fully throw themselves into a career, whatever that might be.

1:00:00 You'll be glad to know Star Wars:The Acolyte is actual sets! I worked on that show (to be released summer this year) from beginning to end and the sets were really really amazing. I work in the art department and the stuff we got to design was super lovely - half of which wouldn't exist with a volume replacement. Even with all the sets being built, I heard it was still cheaper that way than using the volume which seems insane. But yeah... lots do use the volume (there's one at Pinewood here in the UK) but it's a bit soulless if you ask me. Hard for the actors too...

I completely agree with you. I was honestly super excited to watch this. I saw him in the thumbnail and recognized him from The Vow and another documentary about his cult. I was really excited but slowly got more and more disappointed as I realized that it was mostly a discussion on film and Star Wars. Which I get, he's a film maker. But it just felt like such clickbait when maybe 5 minutes was about the cult? If they had titled it more accurately to the topics discussed I wouldn't be disappointed and would understand. Just felt very bait and switched that I kept skipping ahead to see if they ever got back on course. Hopefully there is another episode that actually addresses the title.

The book that Blade Runner 1 was based on - Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick - is a very fashinating book, and gives a nice counter-balance to the Ridley Scott Movie (because the book is like a mirror image of the movie, in many ways). In the book Deckard overcomes his depression and anxiety, and through his trials and tribulations finds hope, faith, and courage - and a new zest for life.

Thank you, brother. This is one of the most blatant reasons why I subscribed to you, besides the lessons and comedy. You just quoted one of my favorite scriptures from Thomas @ 51:34! I saw What the Bleep in the theatre and then, years later, (as 'little me' has always been on a spiritual journey,) I was "star struck" when I met Dr. Bruce after I'd just finished 'The Biology of Belief,' and I knew intuitively without words by the look in his eyes he was going to give me his second book, a strange feeling. (Again, not to brag, but the cnpd may still be in my 'blind spot.') That being said, watching this here on RUclips, which deletes entire channels, shadow bans, erases or deletes view numbers and comments, they're not _quite_ as mean as the "stupid people in Hollywood"🤣 (_perfectly hilarious meme!_) also the intelligence com-munities seem to be open to exposing the topic of psychology, - this is a big full-circle for me! Thanks, we'll check it & Peace! 😹💖🙏🕊

I'm an atheist and not particularly spiritual in any capacity. I'm much more of a science-geek however, speaking of Mark's movie "What the (bleep)..." and making things "happen" with your mind, I have the opposite phenomenon happen with me. I won't obsessively think about something and it happens, such as bumping into someone you haven't seen in forever. For me it's a fleeting thought. A momentary flash in my brain and I won't think of it again until the occurrence or chance meeting happens. It has to be a situation where I give the thought no more than a second and then when whatever it is happens, I'll remember that fleeting thought and be like..."what the hell! this flashed in my mind yesterday!".
It's funny because I'm not superstitious, however if I start to think about an accident or something bad happening, I will force myself to think about it longer, convincing myself that if I give it more than a momentary flash, then it's not portentous in any way and therefore won't happen. The problem is, I'm not really conscious of the fleeting thought at the time because it comes and goes and that's when the thing, whatever it is, happens.
    I sound like a crazy person. 🤣

“A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away..”
“Once upon a time, in a kingdom far far away”
Star Wars is the past. Star trellis the future. Where everyone in the federation has perfect nutrition that they function with calm & easy in extremely tense situations. When they are held captive for long periods of time, you can see fight or flight appear.
They take death very well on the enterprise. Star wars is backwards thinking, very emotional.

I think what Richard keeps calling "world building" is actually production design. There is very little "world building" in the movies he mentions, even the Lord of the Rings films skim over Tolkien's extraordinarily extensive invention of a fictional world. What the movies Richard mentions have in common is immersive and distinctive production design and atmospheric music. One of the reasons all the Star Wars material after the original trilogy is garbage is that they're trying to extract a whole universe out of the simple and vague world cobbled together by George Lucas as an excuse to tell a story.
