Chaotically learning to knit as a lifelong crocheter

ONE YEAR UPDATE! ruclips.net/video/nAIu8KUYIfk/видео.html
If it helps, there is a rhyme for knitting
Under the fence
Catch the sheep
Off we come
Back we leap
How cool! Is yours for the "throwing," style of knitting, or the other kind?
I learned this one with the throwing style:
Through the door
Around the back
Out the window
Here comes jack
Through the door (slide needle into stitch on other needle)
Around the back, (throwing the yarn around the inserted needle)
Out the window (pull through to have the loop on the no longer inserted needle)
Here comes Jack (slide the stich originally inserted into off of the needle it's on)
Some tips for beginning knitting:
1. Get circular needles. Knitters pride is a relatively affordable, yet very high quality brand (bad circular needles, a.k.a pony brand ones, are made by the devil himself).
2. Wooden/bamboo needles are slightly more grippy, so you should have less slipped stitches with those. Then when you're more comfortable with knitting you can use metal needles, which makes it quicker
3. Try continental knitting- its more similar to crocheting in that the yarn is held in the left hand, and it is generally less taxing on your hands/arms than english style (which most people first learn). Its also quicker for most knitters (if you care about that).
3. Knitting projects take a lot longer than comparable crochet projects, so lots of people find it worthwhile to invest more time in swatching etc, and more money in the yarn itself (as you create fewer overall projects, you can knit with more expensive yarns for the same overall budget)
4. Knitting uses less yarn than crochet! Its a less '3d' fabric, and the stitches are less complex (structurally), thus it generally takes about 25% less yarn than comparable crochet projects (though this is a super vauge rule of thumb, always go according to what the pattern says)
5. I would really recommend following a pattern for your first few projects, as knitting is slower and less 'free style-able' than crochet. Petite knit, Jessie Maed Designs and Friday knits are a great place to start. Lots of the older Friday knits patterns have accompanying youtube videos, which i found helpful when i started knitting.
6- if you get a stitch wrong it is actually super easy to fix. You can even fix a lot of mistakes many rows back without ripping back, if youve got a stitch wrong. Find the wrong stitch (and i like to put a lightbulb stitch marker on it) and trace upwards until you get to the corresponding 'live stitch' on your needle. Drop that stitch off your needle and 'ladder down' by pulling the stitches out, until you get to your 'wrong stitch'.ladder down 1more stitch. Then you use a crochet hook to re-do the stitch, by makign a single chain into the 'ladder) of yarn above it. Continue making single chains into each ladder above until you get to the top of your knitting and put the last chain stitch back on your needle. It sounds complex but honestly its super easy!
7- watch nimble needles 'knitting anatomy' and 'knitting basics' videos to understand knitting, then use verypinkknits videos for tutorials!
i came to say a few of the things you just said and you got me covered mate. bless
Thank you for this advice
Im gonna use chopsticks
* for 1) if you have a tight tension double pointed needles are good for knitting hats/socks. They get stuck on the cables.
You know what's a crazy coincidence? This morning a teacher walked up to me and said she heard I knit. The whole time in thinking about how I crochet, not knit, and how different they are. I was too nervous to tell her though lol.
Omgosh I go through this alllll the time people are like I love your knitting videos and I used to correct them but then I just gave up and started saying thanks 🤣
I've heard that it's easier with thicker yarn and bigger needles
I can't crochet but I can (very poorly 😢) knit
@@kimwheeler8414noooo it is a lot harder ( i learned to knit some months ago )
I knit and honestly when someone says something like "why are you Crocheting in class?" I get so mad. It's a Pet peeve of mine
I recommend you get thicker yarn it will be much easier and count your stitches once in a while. remembers it's okay to make mistakes as a beginner just have fun and enjoy!
I def need to try some thicker yarn!
Maybe use wooden needles first not metal ones .😊
Update! It’s been about a year and a half since this video and after I filmed this I didn’t touch knitting again until THIS WEEK! I finally re learned how to knit and I’m kinda obsessed 😊 new learning to knit vlog coming Monday 7/15!
The needles you saw without the stoppers are needle sets to knit like socks and stuff... you basically knit with 5 needles... it was super hard for me at first but you get used to it. Now I can't imagine knitting socks any other way 😅
FIVE NEEDLES! My brain can’t comprehend lol
FIVE? -- oh dear...I need to learn to knit socks, but am a longtime crocheter, not a knitter. Oh noooooooooooo :(
Technically you only need a few knitting needles to make socks depending on the size. But they are just for that. Some use it for curves or cables too. Wait till you get to the Tunisian stitches. We also use crochet hooks to fix any fallen loops🤣🤣🤣
Ugh this was me learning to crochet after having knitted for years 😂 everyone says crocheting is so much easier but I have tried to pick it up on 4 separate occasions (the internet, my grandma, my mom, and the lady at our local yarn shop all tried to teach me) and just suffering through it and finding it impossible to keep the tension or see the stitches. There are so many more types of stitches than knitting and purling. Just a nightmare. Recently I picked it up again and I’ve made a placemat with granny squares, a couple octopus and a chicken 😂 so I’m feeling marginally better. Just keep at it.
My best friend is like this! She knits while I crochet, so we tried to teach eachother for fun, it was SOOOO confusing for the both of us! She could not figure it out and I couldn't even cast on 😭😭
@@ceeceepinkx hey! I’m still doing it! Which is wild bc I’ve tried to learn to crochet so many times and gave up every time, but a year later and I’m still making stuff! Working on a hexagon cardigan :)
@@corneliastreet2491 omg that's great! For me I prefer crochet because I feel like there are less limitations, I don't know much about knitting so im probably wrong, but I think that crochet is more diverse
@@ceeceepinkx I think crochet is more sturdy so it’s good for projects where you want good structure, but I actually prefer knitting for garments and wearable items bc I like the way it flows/drapes a lot more plus the holes are less noticeable. I think you can do pretty much anything with either method, you just need the right technique and an ability to be flexible and think out of the box lol
It is easier, but it’s probably more complicated if you already know something else and it probably seems harder because you’ve been learning something. That’s really easy to you.
I'm the only crocheter in like 3 generations, my mom, her wife, and my grandma are all knitters. My great grandma did some crochet but mostly knit stuff. I totally feel you on this video, knitting is so much harder than crochet!
My mom can knit TWO socks in one day easily and I can never understand how she's so quick
Two socks in one day that’s amazing! I’m so slow at knitting so far it’s crazy lolol
I actually knit both my socks at once so I know they’re exactly the same 😂 it’s a pretty cool technique, you should put your mom onto it. She’d be able to knit two PAIR a day 😂
@@corneliastreet2491 What's the method called? :o
@@cranberry420 it’s very similar to magic loop! But I personally use two circular needles. Here’s a good video tutorial!

As a knitter myself I can tell you that it is very easy to make mistakes when you go fast as a beginner.
When I was a little boy about 6 years old, my mom got together with 2 neighbor ladies in the morning to drink coffee and knit. Mom was a phenomenal knitter reading charts, knitting and drinking coffee at the same time. She knit like you and I breathe. It was very natural for her. She knit continental style and was very fast. I noticed the 3 of them were always laughing so I thought knitting must be fun. I asked mom to teach me and I was right, knitting is fun! When I was about 12, I taught myself to crochet out of a craft book. Mom didn't crochet. Since I was already a knitter, I learned crochet quickly and easily. I am 66 years old now and enjoy doing both. I have have made many, many gifts in my day. I love knitting socks, gloves, mittens, scarves, sweaters, you name it. I enjoy crocheting christening sets, vintage doilies and tablecloths. Anything vintage really. I like thrifting for vintage items and then copying them. I am at my most calm with knitting needles or crochet hook in hand. I love feeling the rhythm of the yarn or crochet thread as it moves through my fingers creating the many thousands of stiches. It is a very Zen activity to me. I am in my own world at that moment.
My mom has been gone now for 20+ years, but every time I use her knitting needles I feel connected to her and I am transported once again to that little boy sitting in his mother's lap while her hands guide mine in the rhythm that is knitting...
I love you mom and miss you so much. Someday we will knit together again...
My sister knits and I crochet. We've decided to spend this coming week teaching each other our craft haha.
I predict a lot of stressful moments 😂😂
Omgosh keep us posted how it goes 🤣🤣🤣
How did it go? Are you both still alive to tell the tale? 😅 you are brave- I wouldn't be able to teach my sister anything without slapping her around a bit
Let's continue that knitting journey, you got this girl 😊
You did awesome on your first day. Keep on knitting and yes no need to hurry. Speed will come when everything is OK.
I loved watching the whole experience on your live! The video turned out great! Your doing a great job for a beginner! :)
Awe thank you for coming to the live it was so fun!!!
I’ve never seen anyone cast on like that. Seems so much easier! Also, I remember knitting at the teeny tiny tips of your If you drop stitches, you use a CROCHET hook!! To go back and pickup the stitch and pull it through. If you’re worried about having to undo, put a lifeline of a separate color of yarn every so often, just use a tapestry needle to weave through all your loops and then if you have to undo a lot of rows all your stitches will be on the yarn lifeline. The needles with stoppers are the best for beginners so you don’t lose your stitches off the end 😂 I also recommend wooden needles to start because they’re grippier and help you keep your stitches on. Once you’re really good, aluminum needles are so much faster AND you can start using DPNs to knit in the round or do cables, but honestly most people prefer needles that are looped together over DPNs for knitting in the round.
My biggest thing is I HATE counting stitches, but it’s important to keep counting them so you don’t have to undo multiple rows 😂 I’m just lazy and hate it. But it’s infinitely easier to count knit stitches (especially in fluffier yarn with less visibility) than crochet stitches, because they’re all on your needles.
Also, I swear at my knitting pieces when I mess up too, so it’s ok to be frustrated because I say the f-word at my yarn a lot and my roommate thinks it’s funny 😂
I've been crocheting for over 40 years, I started really young. I recently started learning to knit, its literally like using two left hands for me😂😂. Good luck
You are a woman of all trades! ❤
Knitting is not more difficult than crochet. Like everything else it has to be learned first. You are doing great and you will love knitting in no time ! 😅
As a fellow beginner I learned that if you knit to tightly you can rubb the stitches back and forth on the needle to temporarily loosen them, and keep the stitches closer to the pointy bit so you don’t have to make so big movements❤❤❤
my sister literally learned to knit using her paint brushes and a small ball of yarn but she ended being hooked with crocheting unless she buys the knitting needles. She was so happy when she started doing it like she didn't sleep cause she don't wanna stop unless she finish the project she'd working on.. and the next morning she didn't go to school🤭🤭
This girls energy and jokes keep me energized 😂
Studio knits is the best! There are so many great videos.
I am the opposite, my mom knits and I learned how to knit like around 2016 as a new hobby so I mostly did that and I was proud of knitting. I tried to learn crochet around 2018 and I was not used to it so I had a huge tension problem so I stopped. I recently picked it back up a year ago around 2022 and I was really bad still but I wanted to do this few projects and keep practicing and practicing till I am really comfortable with crocheting now. Its just a lot of practice and practice for both knitting and crocheting to get good at it lol I can't wait to how your journey goes!
I both knit and crochet, and have found that knitting is easier on my hands and fingers than twisty/pully crochet. If I might offer a couple of suggestions, start by knitting "flat," with out increases or decreases worked into two (or more!) stitches. These can be tough on the hands if you're knitting a bit tightly as beginners often do. A nice first project is Grandma's Favorite Dishcloth, in easy garter stitch worked in worsted cotton yarn. I still have my first Grandma's Favorite, and I have come a long way. Best wishes as you foray into this new craft!
@Holly Auna, I love this video! I, too, am a longtime crocheter (since I was 7 and I'm now in my late fifties), and your awkwardness and "I don't get it" is EXACTLY me when I'm trying to comprehend knitting. It's like we crocheters just have a completely different mindset and we're trying to learn a foreign language. I tried to learn knitting years ago but the result was dismal -- my tension was just horrid and it felt like I was all thumbs (or trying to knit with my feet!). Recently I felt the urge to try again, especially with so many RUclips commenters saying how continental style is so much easier for crocheters. So I gave it go a couple nights ago, watching Arne & Carlos, since they're highly recommended, but still struggled a lot. I'm not giving up, though! I want to learn to knit socks, since finding socks is so difficult for me as an Autistic with Sensory Processing Disorder. So watching you struggle -- not just to learn the mechanics of knitting, but the mental aspects of "what the heck is this?" which is what I, as a crocheter, feel, too -- was extremely validating. Thank you for sharing this!
It will feel totally alien at first. I dont crochet but i started on a knitting loom then progressed to needles. Excited to see your journey on this. You can undo your stitches if you make a mistake so dont worry
Knitting is complicated at first give yourself some kindness and nimble needles is another good one to watch for learning.
I really want to crochet and knit, I'm learning how to crochet from you, and I want to learn to knit because like crocheting, it feels so relaxing to do it. Love your videos❤
Awe yay I’m so excited for your yarn journey!
I loved this so much!! ❤
Awe yay!
I think I started knitting first then I moved onto crochet. My mom taught me how to knit. And was the one to do the casting on for me. But I forgot everything after a while of not doing it so I relearnt everything from RUclips. I like the sheep stitch videos. They helped me a lot. I can now do decreses, increseases, knits, purls yarn overs, the tail cast on (which is the best casting on option) and even cable knitting. I still do crochet from time to time. I'm currently working actually on three separate completely different things. I'm sewing some pants for my mom, I'm working on a crochet shrug and knitting a sweater vest in the round.
lol im a knitter and im learning to crochet. been knitting since i was 7. .learning crochet at 42. and i love it. been a week and im selling stuff already haha. keep it up it can be hard but fun once you can
Your earrings are SO cute! 🐠 ❤
I’m anxious to see how you like it. I think I’d like the “clack” of the needles!
Me too I want to get faster so I can get the clickity clack
Omg this video 😂❤😊 edit: i have been wanting this video forever i love it!!!!!!!
Total chaos 🤣💖
Since you learned to crochet first, you should look into "continental" style of knitting! :) It's essentially knitting while holding your yarn in your left hand vs right.
Some fellow crafters I've talked to have found it easier to learn to knit in this style, since it's similar to how you hold your yarn in crochet.
But so far so good!! When I first started knitting, there were holes everywhere and it looked loose and wonky. Yours looks great for just starting! I also recommend using a larger and smooth yarn in a bright color to make it easier to see your stitches!
I still can’t do continental 😂 I want too because supposedly it’s faster and more ergonomic but I can’t do it. But then I recently actually figured out how to crochet after years of trying to learn it then giving up then trying then giving up. Now I can make some small things. I still prefer my English knitting, I can do so many patterns and different stitches for different textures, which I love. One day I’ll learn continental, just like I learned to crochet. Baby steps,
I learned to knit a long time before I learned to crochet. Both are second nature to me now. Double points (no stopper) are for knitting in the round (I prefer two circular needles over four or five double points - that takes practise to get the hang of).
Ur better than me ive bin knitting for olmost a year love your videos❤❤❤
In 2015 I decided to learn how to crochet. My stitches were so tight that by the 3rd row I could no longer get the hook through. So I decided to try knitting & learned knitting much faster & how to keep my stitches looser so I could get my needles through. After a couple of weeks of knitting I decided to try crochet again now that I understood how to keep my stitches looser & finally learned how to crochet. I still knit & crochet & love doing both.
You are a woman of all trades!
Trying my best 😂
So cool!!
I know how to knit a dishcloth...
I learned that before crocheting...crocheting was so much faster!!
But now, I want an Icelandic sweater!! And those need to be knitted... so I'm just about ready to learn how to really knit. But i didn't get the right needles.
Making a sweater - it is wise to get these needles that have a flexible wire attached to them both.
I think they call it a circle. Well... I'm watching videos and I'm almost ready!!
Ahhh good luck knitting your sweater it’s going to turn out amazing!!!!
I am a knitter, who right now learns how to crochet. And that's as hard as then i learned how to knit. No, that's even a bit harder, because for me that's easy to miss the right loop. So yeah..
I am a knitter too and was about to say just this. I bought my first crochet hook yesterday and already complained to my boyfriend and then my mom “this is so much harder than knitting”.
I was so sure crocheting would be easier. I guess it because crocheting is much much faster (also I’m a thin needles person [2-3mm usually and my widest are 4.5mm] and knit really tight while my new hook is 5.5mm which plays it role too)
I personally prefer wooden needles because I can find more sizes of needles. But I learned how to crochet and it is really nice to be able to set it down in the middle of the project you however cannot do that with knitting which means when you start the row you must complete it before you set it down. I am very happy you are trying knitting and hope you enjoy it.
I learned how to knit from that same video and I loved knitting but my eyes would hurt so bad after doing it for like 10-20 minutes so I couldn’t do it anymore 😞
I don't knit but I do know that the ones with no stoppers are for round projects like socks or hats. Where the ones with a stopper are for Flat projects like scarves. There are also like ones that have a cable tube thing so you can do Really Really long projects and it curls round.
Knitting seems so complicated 🤣
I recommend you get some circular needles. They are my favorite needles to use and great for beginners!
Are those the ones connected by a wire?
@@HollyAuna Yup
I like them because the needle part isn't too long, so it's a bit easier it use in my opinion.
My favorite kind are circulars as well, especially for socks using Magic Loop.
The earrings slay
Holly! I’m just trying got talk through your video to you about the things I know ❤ (I crochet and knit)
You can try a long tail cast on for a looser cast on too The Crazy Sock Lady has some truly excellent tutorials on her channel too ❤
You’ve got this Holly 😊 the material of the needles can make a difference, bamboo is not as slippery if that would help
I literally did this yesterday! I went to a yard sell to get yarn to crochet with, and it had knitting needles. So I taught myself to knit!😂
Good job knitting .
I use knitting looms. They're the circular and rectangular plastic things in the yarn section. I'm making a baby blanket currently using that way.
I bought some circle ones but I’m wondering if those will still hurt my arm with the pulling movement??? I want to try a knitting machine!
@@HollyAuna I own one of those. It skips several stitches when it gets to the like fourth row up. Then like every 10 rows up after that. Once it gets to be about 18" long it jams up and refuses to do anything. So now I have pieces about the same size. I got it last year. Now I'm using a regular loom.
I started knitting before I started crocheting, but I do prefer crochet over knitting because it doesn’t require as much preparation as knitting does 😂😂😂
As someone who learned knitting first, I personally love knitting but it takes too long to see your progress but if you crochet you can see your progress a lot quicker
That’s how I felt too with my very limited knitting 😂
Yeah, also hi fellow swiftie!
My personal is you want stretchy yarn and the circular bottom stopers and you have to be a little looser on your first and last (cast on) or it'll dip down
For my crochet girlies and bros, learn continental knitting style! I learned the English style and it put me off knitting for years until I picked it up again and changed my knitting style. Fast forward to this day I’ve knitted a sweater, gloves, beanie, etc.!
You should head over to Nimble Needles channel for a more in depth tutorial on knitting. I picked up crochet during the pandemic with the hopes of getting a sweater out of it once I learned. Within a year of learning crochet I made the decision of learning knitting. I went through several video tutorials and it ended up being frustrating until I found the Nimble Needles channel. Then everything just clicked!
As a crocheter, I find it easier to learn knitting "continental sytle" rather than "English style" (the method you're currently using) because in continental style you hold the yarn in the opposite hand of the working needle, similar to how crocheters hold the yarn in the hand opposite to the hand holding the crochet hook.
Let the adventures begin!!
Continue the crafting chaos!
I love crochet and have been wanting to learn to knit because I know how to sew by hand and with a sewing machine and if I learn to knit I will complete my craft bucket list
Love this! I’m learning to sew this year!
Yeah I crochet and I don’t ever think can knit plus I’m about to crochet a blanket!
I’ve been a crocheter for about a year but just last week took up knitting and can’t believe I'm already doing double knitting 😂 I’ve gone to the dark side indeed!
when I drop a stitch or half the project I just die for a little bit first it is good to have crochet hooks you can fix so many things using them I learned how to knit first a long time ago I do more crochet now though,
I started last May I do still knit One thing that is a good steppingstone between crochet and knitting is knooking i'm not sure if it would help your specific situation but I would definitely watch a video or two on it (you don't have to worry as much about dropped stitches cause they're still on a string )
I would highly recommend circular needles, they are a lot easier to handle plus it gives you more options ( knitting in the round and knitting flat) depending on the pattern you choose. You don't need double pointed needles unless you are knitting socks or prefer them to the magic loop method, but again you can do magic loop with circular needles (basically circular needles are my must have) Then I would try to find a free downloadable pattern or a youtube video pattern to follow that is beginner friendly :) or even just practice swatching so you get the hang of the different stitches :)
The difrens with the needles is the thing on the back is to stop it totalling of the other end and btw we are twing with the metallic purpul lol and use thick will it will help
I learned to crochet first and then when my grandma passed I got all her crochet and knit stuff but she lost knitted. I’m pretty decent at crochet but I’m honestly just getting the hang of knitting. I have 0 clue how my grandma would knit while sweaters for their dog
For ppl who are learning how to knit my suggestion, which helped me is to use bigger yarn and bigger, knitting needles
Hey, if you're trying to learn a craft with less arm movements bc of your injury I would suggest learning to knit continental style. Basically you hold the yarn a certain way so that you don't have to wrap it around the needle but instead pick up the yarn with your needle as you go along. Hope that helps 😃
So the ones with stoppers are straight needles the ones that have a cable attached to both are circular knitting needles and the ones that have 5needles are double pointed knitting needles
I know of topic but I love your earrings!😂
Awe thanks! I love earrings!
a tip for a crocheter who learned to knit twice and succeeded once.
continental knitting. it allows you to use your needle almost like the hook in crochet. mum tried to teach me English knitting and it sucked so much i stopped for a solid decade and a half. and then i found out about continental knitting and i was... hooked. 😇
also, you saying theres less hand movement with knitting 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 lordy knitting is legit the most handmovementy ❤
also. wooden or bamboo needles. they help decrease the amount of stitches that can drop off because they have a little bit more hold
I LIKE YOUR VIDOE AND I AM LEARNING CROCHET FROM YOUR VIDEOS
God, I knit ONE TIME like 15 years ago and never did again... I recently had a friend try to knit a frog and they couldn't so they tapped me in for help bc I knew how to crochet and IT'S BEEN AN EXPERIENCE. I feel this video so much, I see why YT recommended it lmao
Every 5 minutes it's "Crap, where's that video on purling again"
I feel like I'm a very creative person and I'm obsessed with learning new crochet stitches. I usually have at least 3 projects running at the same time. I even cross stitch and use plastic canvas. BUT knitting is the the only thing I can't do and have literally "rage-quit" several times!! I've tried but once it comes off the needles, messed up, I'm done! 😂
I did the same . I'm a crocheter but I don't wanna gve up. I keep practicing. I did my first twisted ear warmer headband and I'm proud lol
0:58 I knitting myself and I recommend 5MM Needles bamboo, acrylic yarn, not chunky yarn because that can be hard and yeah, so that’s what I recommend
I reccomend as a knitter that if your'e buying knitting needles for the first time,to get wooden ones and to start with size 4 or medium yarn.
Wooden needles for me have helped me maintain a better grip on my yarn in knitting projects.
If you want to learn beginner stiches then l recommend learning to cast on first and to go to "Sheep and Stich"
Sheep and stich shows how to cast on and do basic stiches
That is all from all fellow knitter and have an amazing day/night!
I've crocheted for decades longer than you've been alive, but trying to work with knitting needles is a frightening prospect.. which is why I decided to use a knitting loom lol
I have done neither..but learned crochet 1 week ago 😂😂😂 took me 1 hour 😅
I am almost done with a scarf and it is my first time knitting and have about three dropped stitches. Gah!
Great video! If you wanna pick up a dropped stitch, use a crochet hook to get it back on the knitting neefle
Ooo great idea thank you!
I love knitting! Even though I only knit scarf. Personally I like the metal needles because sometimes it makes a clanking noise. Never get the wooden ones because they are cheaply made and can pick at your yarn sometimes. I never had a preference about the bottom of the needles. Also from Personally experience start with a thinker yarn like 8mm because I find smaller yarn to be more frustrating.
Edit: Crocheting is to complex for me and I think people who Crochet are magical 😅
i am the opposite lol. knitting is very difficult for me but i can crochet
You’ll get there just remember I like RUclips and crocheting it will get easier and if you’re having trouble of tightness try using a thicker knitting needle to start on because it’ll help you teach you not to tighten knit it will teach you how to knit i’ll get better trust me I taught myself how to knit. Yeah it does get better and you can do pretty patterns when you get good enough.
I do the cast on, always a size needle bigger and bring my loops over to the corect size needle and that way it is never to small :). (On my husbands account and english isn’t my first language so sorry in advance)
I know how to knit some ,but not good with looseing stitches . So i had to pull the whole thing out i was working on . I did make my daughter a sweater a long time ago . A lady from germany help me .
I was a long time crocheter until i learned how to knit. It does help if you have carpal tunnel. I love knitting.
this is good to hear! i dont have carpal tunnel but a diffent nerve injury and i just hope this will be easier to do!
@@HollyAuna it very much is. You also get faster the longer you do it. Its only been a year and ive made a bunch of things already. Also the knitting machines are super fun when i cant do either.
My preference for crochet is because I want to see progress more quickly. We did knitting in grade school & had gotten discouraged. Maybe if we had used larger needles, things might have changed. Too many wips in progress (3 larger projects)
Knitting is definitely more fiddly and not as logical. But I've taught myself to knit lace already. I go back to crochet for sanity. 😊

Great effort. Now try learning the crazy short hand knitting instruction language😅 My mom tried to teach me years ago, she was very proficient, but I really never got it. That is a challenge indeed😊

You should try knooking. It’s a mix of knitting and crochet but produces knitted fabric. Plus you can use knooking hooks to knit and crochet so you only need one set. I have a video on my channel on how to do it if you want to see.
If you tend to cast on tight, get a knitting needle, a size bigger than the yarn requires
to undo knitting just pull it off the needles and in your words "brrrrrrrrrr it out"
and another good channel is sheep and stich they have some really good videos about pearling casting on\off and alot of cool projects and the most useful thing it teaches you how to use a pattern lol!
Omg, this is me since 3 days ago. Wanting to knit since my wrist kinda easily hurt after 20 minutes of crocheting.
I’d prefer bamboo knitting needles because if you’re going to do it for a while your hand can sweat and then the metal ones get sticky. Also they could be very slippery when learning compared to bamboo.
Also, if you turn the cast on tight, if you go a size, bigger with the knitting needle, that can help make the project look the way it supposed to
There’s another way I knit and it’s way easier the way you do it! If you do want me to show you, I could some how try!
I have mastered both
That’s awesome! 🧶💖
I taught myself how to knit in 2 hours, that meant casting on and off too. I have been crocheting for 11 months and I am 17
