Mike Meyers, who played both Austin and Dr.Evil, Wayne on Wayne's World, and Shrek, was on SNL for years, and the Dr.Evil character is partially an impression of his old SNL boss, Lorne Michaels. He grew up in Canada, but his parents were British. The hairy chest was because of Sean Connery in the James Bond Movies, where one of the villain's henchman was an Asian man who would throw his hat at people.

You really should see some of the James Bond Movies before the other two. Half of the jokes are based on the Bond movies. Start with Goldfinger, Thunderball, You only Live Twice, and Moonraker for sure.
The intermission breaks are done in the style of an American variety show called Laugh In that aired around 1970. They'd do the exact thing between jokes.
The assassin at the end who threw the shoe turned out to be a real-life monster. Like Dateline special level monster.

The quick and psychedelic bridges between scenes were an homage to a TV show from the late 1960s, Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In. Dan Rowan and Dick Martin hosted a comedy variety show which used exactly those types of bridges between skits. The humor was very topical and political, so it didn't age well and the show never did well in syndication, so it was pretty quickly forgotten by the majority of the public.

Anyway, he’s doing an impression of Lorne Michaels who created Saturday Night Live and has run the show except for a few years. In the sequels Mike Myers adds more characters that he also plays. In addition to being takeoffs of James Bond movies they also draw a lot from the Flint movies - Our Man Flint, In Like Flint - that starred James Coburn.

Dr. Evil is a satire on probably the greatest James Bond villain, Ernst Stavros Blofeld. Blofeld is the head of SPECTRE, a terrorist agency, and in the James Bond films he is Polish, not Belgian. He is referred to as the organization's number one. Number two, Emilio Largo, also wears an eyepatch.

Mary, ok so Mike Myers - absolutely legendary. Well known for Wayne's World, a cable tv series then turned into a film, and a sequel, and also responsible for putting Bohemian Rhapsody back at number 1 in the charts decades after it's original release.
Other films of note, other than the 2 sequels to Austin Powers, 'So I Married An Axe Murderer' which is hilarious and one of my favourites; Shrek.
He also wrote the Austin Powers films, Wayne's World, and So I Married An Axe Murderer and others.
His parents were from Liverpool, before they emigrated to Canada, and there is Scottish Ancestry. His Dad was a massive James Bond fan, particularly of Sean Connery, and this is the motivation for Austin Powers.
There is a funny speech by Mike Myers, honouring Sean Connery - ruclips.net/video/KQYp8xJ4kpo/видео.htmlsi=S7j4xNj5mgaXrX-h

Definitely should do the next two. I thought the third was the best. Lots more Belgium and Denmark jokes in later films. Oh…and the cameos…so many cameos.
Maybe brush up on early Bond films first. Lots of missed references from Dr Evil and the cat looking like Blofeld and his cat, to Allotta Fagina = Pussy Galore from Goldfinger or Octopussy from…Octopussy; Frau Farbissina = Rosa Klebb from “From Russia with Love.” Random Task a near exact ripoff of Odd Job from Goldfinger.
Mike Meyers was a well known comedian from his years on Saturday Night Live and a movie based on one of the recurring sketches he did on that show (Wayne’s World) and he is the voice of Shrek… but Austin Powers definitely is what made him a big star globally.

    5:55 I think Mary just out-Austin Powers-ed Austin Powers. Great job! :D
Also, the version I know best is the (or a?) TV version which has reactions to the deaths of the two henchmen, the flattened one and the decapitated one.

Mike Myers was rly famous before he went just the actor.
He was the main actor he was the main villain (I hope you saw that he was also dr. Evil) he did also write the movie so it's his script AND he was also the producer of the movie as well xD

Definitely watch the next two. I personally think it peaks at two, but the third is still hilarious, and a worthy finale for the franchise.
