Such a great reaction, Jen, I knew that you'd love it. You'll love the next one too, I'm sure. As for the music, it's all '60s songs with the exception of 'Soul Bossaova' which was written for it, the instrumental track that you liked earlier in the film. The next one, 'Austin Powers: Goldmember' takes the action to the early '70s and features themes from, Disco, 'Blacksploitation', etc, and we meet Austin's Dad.
When you think about it Vanessa had a mother that believed that was her daughter. That means she actually existed. Which means at some point Dr. Evil killed her and replaced her.
Had no idea Jen was a gamer until she mentioned Mass Effect. Very happy to hear that! I get the feeling Jen would join Dr Evil just for the evil lairs. And doing the air quotes every single time Dr Evil did them was so funny!
When Dr evil's chair goes haywire, that shit gets me every time! The moment that he spits right before he's about to puke, was the perfect finale for that entire sequence! So good! 😂😂😂
@@TerminatorJuice Yes other commentor is right, the chair spinning I believe started as a prank by the prop master controlling the chair and the director, Mike went with it and improvised the bit.
Okay, Jen...the Mass Effect mention was AWESOME!!!! The song that Elvis Costello sings with Burt Bacharach is "I'll Never Fall In Love Again". The song originally came from the musical 'Promises. Promises' (1968), based on the Oscar-winning Best Picture 'The Apartment' (1960). It has been recorded many times since then, and it's one of Bacharach's most enduring hits. Model Rebecca Romijn was just beginning her acting career, transitioning from modeling when she did this movie...in 2000, she took on one of her most famous roles as Raven Darkholme aka Mystique in 'X-Men'. She's now on 'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds'. The other model, Ivana Humpalot was played by Kristen Johnston who was on the hit sitcom '3rd Rock From The Sun'. Rob Lowe got the job as the young Number 2 because he was Mike Myers's friend since making 'Wayne's World' together, but also because Rob grew up around Robert Wagner's kids. He even dated one of Wagner's daughters. On the golf course, Rob came up with the idea of him playing a younger version of Number 2 in a sequel and pitched it to Mike while playing a round of golf. He even did his impression of Wagner for Mike, making him laugh. Next thing, Rob is cast as a young Number 2 in the then-untitled Austin Powers sequel.
OMG! There's now 30 yrs between the Austin Powers movies & now, the same time frame as the 60's to the 90's! I feel old now. Mini-Me is an absolute star.
18:45 the scene where Dr. Evil abuses Number 2 with the globe basketball is a parody of a scene from The Great Santini starring Robert Duvall. Look up the Mama’s Boy scene from The Great Santini 🏀 😢
Chess scene = parody of similar scene in "The Thomas Crown Affair (1968)" Inflated globe scene = parody of a basketball scene in "The Great Santini (1979)"
Jen. After you watch Austin Powers 3 be sure to put "In Like Flint" and "Our Man Flint." Both contributed to Austin Powers stylistically (just not as much as the Bond films) :-)
As I've stated before, all 3 of these movies are amazing, and each one is great in it's own right. I prefer them in the order released, as each new movie seemed somewhat of a copy of each previous film in regards to the same gags being used as well as some comedic moments. If I saw this one first, it would have been my favorite, as it would have been the freshest in regards to the gags, or the same if I had seen the 3rd one first. Thanks again for a great reaction video.
The franchise was very much aware of that. They even acknowledge it in the 3rd one. One of the character says ''They're doing the same joke they did in the last one''.
I'm laughing so hard at Jen laughing so hard at Austin Powers II, before a roaring fire in the background? Aren't you getting the heatwave up in the Great White North?? Maybe you used the "La-ser" to redirect the weather pattern near your home? Hmmmm....🤔Thanks for another great review!!
Rob Lowe was dating one of Robert Wagner's daughters and came up with the uncanny ability to impersonate him... --- The payoff, is what you see here.. Lowe playing the young Number Two...
Austin Powers mentions a movie called “In Like Flint” from 1967. It might be fun to take a look at that as well as “Our Man Flint” from the previous year.
Trivia- Aside from being a model, Rebecca Romijn also plays Una Chin-Riley on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, who is known as "Number One." Which means there are three different Number Ones in this. And since you asked, with the success of the first film, this actually had a music budget which is why it had Green Day, Lenny Kravitz singing American Woman and Madonna singing Beautiful Stranger and oh dear lord, I have not thought about that song in twenty years. Anyway, both of the music videos for the latter two songs contain explicit tie-ins to this film.
in case it wasnt mentioned, the moment when austin powers sees the criminal in the reflection of the woman's eye, then using her as a human shield, was an homage to one of the early scenes in goldfinger. cant wait until you get to commando. arnold's finest 80s cheese.
I’ve been waiting for this for so long and it was worth the wait! Glad you found it hilarious! When I was younger I didn’t get most of the 90’s stuff but found it funny anyway. Now I get many more of the references so I agree it is definitely rewatchable.
Jen, I've always had a thing for seeing a woman laughing. It's just so heartwarming. Seeing a woman *crack up laughing* is especially delightful. It helps if I like the woman's voice, and if her smile touches her eyes. This movie turned you into a bundle of joy. You're just the best!
So glad you enjoyed Austin Powers 2, eh? Between the '90s throwbacks and Bond nods, it's a hell of a good time. Those tunes weren't penned for the film, just a perfect match, like poutine and gravy! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the trilogy's finale, just hold onto your toque!
Thanks, Jen, for sharing your reaction to this. I also liked this a bit more than the first. It isn't often included of lists of sequels that equal or better the originals, but it should be.
Watching your reactions is so fun! You are so excited and having such a good time! Your fun is infectious! My favorite parts are the silhouette gag and the various descriptions of the space ship....Johnson, pecker etc. Thanks for the laughs! It's always a pick-me-up! ☺
RIP Burt Bacharach. I must admit, when I heard, my first thought was this moment, playing with Elvis Costello on a (air quotes time) "London Street". Here's to Burt. And here's to Jen, our favourite Canadian bird.
"Spectocals, testicles, wallet, and watch" Comes from the movie Nuns on the Run with Eric Idle of Monty Python Fame. It's actually a common theme in the UK but was popularized by both this and that film
I know that I should have made this on your Austin 3 movie but I’m rewatching these cuz it’s a little bit of serotonin. This is the best series I’ve ever watched. And I watch all the great reactors. (Also I think you’re top tier I share you all the time). The fact that you went through all the old Bonds and you get more references than me - cuz I haven’t watched them in 20 years - is amazing. And then to watch you absolutely laugh harder than I’ve ever seen you laugh in any of your reactions. Well. It speaks for itself. I’m so glad you did this. The Austin Powers Trilogy has always kinda been niche to most people. But If you get it - you get it. These movies are ridiculously hilarious if you’re a Bond Fan.
12:29 "Oh, they're _perfect_ for each other. I hope they fall in love." Scenes like this are alluded to in the music video that Madonna made for this movie, _Beautiful Stranger._ There's also the Lenny Kravitz music video, _American Woman,_ and the Mel B video, _Word Up,_ all for this movie.
The fact that you did your homework with the Bond films for these makes it all the more hilarious. The first two are the best. Fat Bastard was Mike training for Shrek.
Of the three Powers films, I think this one is the best. I think Heather Graham is very funny/good in it, the jokes are generally better, Scott was in it more, and it was just an overall better movie than the first one, and definitely the third one. If you'll watch anything with a portal/wormhole, you need to start reacting/watching some old Slider episodes. I think you'd really enjoy the show. :)
I was getting anxious on when you were able to post this. Sorry YT is being such a prude toward your channel, Jen. Along with the Bond references there were a few other obscure film nods as well. The scene of Dr. Evil and Mini Me at the pianos is a goof on a scene from the 80's film, "The Island of De. Moreau" with Marlon Brando and Brad Pitt. Can't wait for Goldfinger. Love it as well as the rest, and because Micheal Caine is in it.
The time portal scene that Dr. Evil and Mini-Me spin travel to is a parody of an old sci-fi show called "The Time Tunnel" which was a sci-fi show that came out in the 1960's which only lasted one season and was created by Irwin Allen whose also known for the creator of "Lost in Space", Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" and "Land of the Giants".
This was actually the second Austin Powers movie that I saw, as it aired on TV, on the Comedy Network (now known as CTV Comedy, as I'm sure you're aware) in early 2003, shortly after the third movie came out on home video. I'd seen the third movie in theatres, but I'll talk about that when you react to the third film, and I wanted to see the other ones, so I took the opportunity to tape them when they aired on TV. So I ended up seeing them in reverse order. Great reaction Jen.
I kind of love how while Dr. Evil was frozen, the rest of the organization decided that the best way to grow was to partner with a truly evil organization - Starbucks, and moved into their headquarters. lol
The music during Austin’s fight with Mini-Me was Crash! by The Propellerheads, a cover of the old BBC Radio 1 Pick of the Pops show. They are probably best known for providing the music from the lobby fight in The Matrix, but also have a Bond connection having contributed their own version of the OHMSS theme for David Arnold’s James Bond Project album. They also worked with Shirley Bassey on one of their tracks.
I'm totally on board for number 3. I rewatched it recently and it's great too. If someone says they don't like it beware, they have no soul. Expanded cast of characters, more musical numbers, great cameos. It's got it all.
I would say Number 2 was the best followed by number 1, and number 3. Michael Caine and Beyoncé were very good, although Beyoncé could have used a bit more acting training to get the role down without appearing so stiff.
My niece looked so much like me growing up, the family called her Mini Me. This movie has a special place in my life for that reason. :) Loved your reaction! Cool that you got the references to the other movies aside from Bond; you're really versed in the stuff we grew up watching! X)

The NATO officer at the beginning who is watching all the tv monitors is the same guy who got run over by the steamroller in the first movie. Played by actor/comedian Michael McDonald who was a main cast member on Mad TV. Also, the peanut vendor at the end was also the hotel manager in the first movie. Actor Mike Hagerty. He had small roles in both Wayne's World and So I Married An Axe Murderer. He's a native Chicagoan....it's possible he and Myers met since they were both members of Second City comedy troupe.

the Austin Powers theme song was originally recorded in 1962 by the one and only Quincy Jones. The name of the tune is "Soul Bossa Nova"
When you think about it Vanessa had a mother that believed that was her daughter. That means she actually existed. Which means at some point Dr. Evil killed her and replaced her.
Or maybe she's just kidnapped and captive somewhere
Her mother obviously was a fembot, too
No, there's no logical explanation for it. Vanessa was an android all along. Basil even says they knew she was a fembot.
'Dirty pillows' is a Carrie (1976) reference. Directed by Brian (Mission Impossible) De Palma. A masterpiece, for future viewing!

Kristen Johnston as Ivana Humpalot is brilliant. She's a great actress and amazing in 3rd Rock From the Sun.

She was a late write-in character for the original Twin Peaks show.
One small pointer. #2 in the past is played by Rob Lowe. He was the "bad guy" in the first Wayne's World.
Edit: Absolutely watch Jerry Maguire
Man; RUclips is being so freaking lame lately. But I can’t wait to watch this later :D you’re awesome Jen.
Looks like Austin has the "Clap"..."oh bee have!"
Great reaction! And you are correct, Jen! A good #2 always makes one feel better than a good #1. ❤😂❤
Thanks for sharing your reaction with us Jen!
Damn Jen knows her stuff. She knows the song im a beliver, she understood directly alan parsons project. I do wonder if jen has been reincarnated. Absolutley one of the smartest here on yt ✌️👍
Another great reaction 🤘
I think you'll love Goldmember, it's my favorite of the trilogy. It's got the best Dr. Evil scenes 😂
