The original team-up was supposed to be with a female officer, but the script changed to bring in Danny and they kept the romance and changed it to a bromance. Another good Simon Pegg comedy is PAUL.
Had they gone with that idea of the female officer I would have choosed either Olivia Colman (who plays Doris in the movie) or Tamsin Greig (from Black Books and she was also in Shaun of the Dead) for that role.
@@JW666Better choice would have been Jessica Hynes (Stevenson) who do wrote and starred with Pegg in their original series “Spaced” would have been a great reunion. Spaced started it all before the Cornetto trilogy.

You could also watch flash Gordon ( the one with the Queen sound track ) you get a young Timothy and also the amazing BRIAN BLESSED ( It's in caps because the man has powerful vocals)
Timothy Dalton is great in anything he's in. I can't name a movie that wasn't mentioned from the top of my head, but he's great in the Penny Dreadful and Doom Patrol shows. Main cast in both.
This was filmed about 15 minutes from me. The locations are in Wells, Somerset and is director Edgar Wright’s home town. A couple of my friends were extras in a few scenes and it is still amusing to see locations like the hotel, pub and supermarket get shot up. Those are all real places that I have visited many times.
The front desk guy at the police station is played by Bill Bailey, a popular British comic actor. He performed beautifully on Strictly Come Dancing (British Dancing With the Stars). He’s also a talented musician.
You should definatly watch the third one. It's a lot more "you'll love it or hate it" but it's worth watching to complete the series and really appreciate the range of Pegg and Frost. Such an amazing duo.
I love that you're willing to go further back in time than most movie reactors, so I'll recommend "The Lion in Winter," which is a wickedly-fun British movie from the late 60's about King Henry II and all his backstabbing family members scheming for power against one another at Christmas, and features the young versions of many actors you've seen on this journey of yours - including Anthony Hopkins and a *22-year-old* Timothy Dalton. The headliners are Peter O'Toole and Katharine Hepburn and you never saw two actors have more fun spitting insults at one another.
I always find it hilarious that the Romeo & Juliet they perform is specifically based on the Baz Lehrman movie version with Leonardo Dicaprio and Claire Daines and that the Hound from Game of Thrones says "Yarp".
"by the power of grayskull, I HAVE THE POWER!!!" - He-man. Hugely popular 80s action figure, spawned a successful cartoon series off the back of huge toy sales called He-man and the masters of the universe. Made into a movie called masters of the universe starring Dolph Lundgren.
Possibly the most rewatchable movie ever made. You always notice something new each time - the attention to detail is outstanding. So much foreshadowing, inside jokes, word play, symbolism and background details.
A quid is a pound, worth 1.70 Canadian dollars. Also, "By the power of greyskull!!" is what He-Man says before his transformation, followed by "I have the POWER!!!"
@@chiefhandker9432 I'm so old I actually had the Minicomic that came with the first He-Man, it had a different origin story where he's a warrior from a barbarian tribe not a prince. As a fan of Thundarr at the time, and Conan later, I always thought it was a cooler back story, Prince Adam was kind of lame.
This movie made me want to see Timothy Dalton play a bond villain. And yes, please complete the trilogy. But I truly hope you'd consider Paul as well! Great movie with these 2, personally my favorite of the 2 of them.
Don’t let anybody put you off watching ‘The World’s End’, Jen. Its reputation as the weakest of the trilogy is undeserved. It mightn’t be the best one but for writing and sheer clever wordplay, it’s superb. Every shot and scene pays off later in the movie and there’s a wonderful Arthurian quest theme to the whole thing. Check out the character names!
I think "The World's End" is a grower where the other two are showers, haha. I was not that impressed with TWE, but after repeated viewing, I now like it as much as the other two. They cover Horror, Action and Sci-fi equally well.
"By the power of grayskull" was a catch phrase from an 80s cartoon called He-Man. The main character would say it every time he transformed himself from his meek alter ego to He-man.
Another great Timothy Dalton movie is Flash Gordon, but it's a trip that some love and some don't love. So glad you enjoyed this movie and your newfound background in action movies prepared you well. You'll likely enjoy a rewatch after you see Point Break and Bad Boys 1 and 2 (which you should!). It took me a bit to come around on this one but I now love it equally to Shawn of the Dead. You should see the third as well, although I haven't yet decided if I love it.
Basically every single scene in this movie is forshadowing, setup, or payoff, or a gag in their own right. A lot of English names are based on old jobs. Smith and Cooperare the famous ones. But Cartwright is a name derived from the wagon making profession. So is Wainwright. So the Andys have a last name with the same meaning as well.
So much of the style of filming for this and Shaun is done in the series Spaced , which was made before these films, it is a great series that is a must watch. The cameos by Peter Jackson and Cate Blanchett are funny because they are hidden in costume but let's not forget Olivia Colman who plays an officer in the film but is an oscar winner since her time on this film.
More Timothy Dalton movies? H*ll Yeah! Flash Gordon! Right up your street! There's loads of movie references in Hot Fuzz, from Wicker Man (incl its star, Edward "Eewar Woowar" Woodward) to The Omen (the journalist's death) and many more.
Beginning of movie - "I Love him! Oh I'm so happy he's in this." End of movie - "Timothy Dalton is super handsome and the worst." - Jen Murray Hi Jen🙋♂️ Your motions of finding out your crush is the villain, but still handsome, must've been a roller coaster ride. Also at 36:34 mark, wasn't expecting you to go full silent mode. Like in shock with emotion for like 10 full seconds. Think ya got in one wheeze. Told ya before, it's like the perfect movie! From the editing, the story, from every joke being set up in the beginning, to their punchlines at the end. Perfect. As for Timothy, just need to see The Rocketeer (1991), and Flash Gordon (1980). FG is full 80s cheese, but the entire soundtrack is done by Queen. 🤘 Thanks Jen🙋♂️🍾🥂🍾 Sorry for the long read.
This reaction really made my week! So glad you had a great time with this one Jen 😎 Hot Fuzz is a masterclass in quality movie-making. "The World's End" (2013) is another great movie and you should definitely watch that too. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are close friends in real life apparently and have made six movies together.
Normally I wouldn't discourage giving credit to the editor because they're often the unsung heroes of the film industry. But as far as the particular style of editing in this goes, that definitely needs to be attributed to the director, Edgar Wright. You'll see similar edits in The World's End as well even though its a different editor. Also other Wright films like Baby Driver & Scott Pilgrim etc.
Just a brilliant film from start to finish with a superb cast. Painfully funny scenes the showdown in the town when Angel returns is hilarious, a send up of Point Break and Bad Boys, and about every action film ever made. Just brilliant!
Bring on the Blue Furry! Knew you'd love this -- incredible script, brilliant actors, and Edgar Wright's awesome transitions! My favourite of the Cornettos, and a movie that holds up whether you prefer action or comedy. AND of course, Timothy Dalton at his hammiest. What's not to love!
A great Timothy Dalton film to watch is 'Hawks' it is a bitter sweet comedy that will have you laughing and crying, a grossly underrated movie that is rarely seen, but acknowledged by many as one of his greatest screen performances!
The DVD of this film (yep, I bought the whole trilogy) has a "pop up" function, wherein text appears at the bottom of the screen, indicating the insane number of references and Easter eggs in the film...there are, literally, dozens of them. e.g.: A local couple are reported as giving birth to twins, named Roger and Martin, the two names of Danny Glover and Mel Gibson in the Lethal Weapon series...
This movie is even better on multiple rewatches. It's so full of setups you miss on the first go. Also, "by the power of Grayskull" is a reference to He-man
the making of is available on youtube, and Paddy Considine (1 of the Andies) does the interview in character. Timothy Dalton has said this was his favorite role to do out of all the movies he's done because everyone was a genuine fan of eachother's work.
This is my fav from the Cornetto trilogy for sure. The more I watch it the more I like it. At World's End gets a yarp from me, but it is weaker one, so you might want to lower your expectations. But still has its moments. Besides that, I would recommend another Pegg/Frost movie that almost ended up being the third installment, but Wright couldn't direct it because he was working on Scott Pilgrim. It is the movie Paul (2011), an homage to Spielberg and sci-fi in general. For more Dalton I can only join to the crowd recommending Rocketeer (1991). He is only a supporting actor but plays a dashing charmer.
Please please please do World’s End soon! And then Paul, which isn’t a Cornetto movie but it is till a Pegg & Frost team up! As for Hot Fuzz, some say it’s a fictional film, but at heart it is a chillingly accurate documentary about cutthroat small-town country life in the UK! The only thing that wasn’t true to life was that the swan they’re chasing was a mute swan, and they don’t make any noises apart from sort of wheezy cough sounds. Other than that, 100% accurate. And the cast… oh boy! The village is absolutely stacked with actors from action movies, police dramas and crime films! You’ve got James Bond, the Equaliser, the lead in The Wicker Man, the villains from Raiders of the Lost Ark and Lethal Weapon 2, the mum from the Krays, the Hound, any number of British comedy actors and two Oscar winners! And it was all for the greater good. The greater good.
If you love the dashing Timothy Dalton, I would highly recommend Wuthering Heights (1970), Flash Gordon (1980), Brenda Starr (1989), The Rocketeer (1991), and The Beautician and the Beast (1997). Also, don’t miss the TV miniseries Jane Eyre (1983).
Quid is British slang for a British pound, much like buck is slang for an American dollar. As of today, one British pound (1 quid) is equal to $1.28 (or a buck twenty-eight). :-)
I love that all the older actors are either ex action movie actors or have been action/ gritty stars in their own movies or tv shows. Eg the vicker was Ivan ooze in the power ragers movie , Edward Woodward ( CCTV man / sea mine victim)was the original Equalizer in the 80's and was the lead in the original Wicker man ( nick cage played him in the crazy remake) and he actually says the same lines in his last scene as he did at the end of the wicker man. Also the big city cop going to a sleepy village full of strange people is a similar story line to hot fuzz.
I recommend PAUL. It is a similar type of comedy with Simon & Nick going on a comicon road trip in America, with the funniest alien in cinema history. Of course the cast has to include Sigourney Weaver.
One of the great things about this movie is that all the supporting cast in the village are venerable British character actors, who often played villains in big movies. There’s Dalton of course, but you also saw the town doctor Stuart Wilson as the villain in Lethal Weapon 3. The reverend was the villain in the first Indiana Jones film. Billie Whitelaw, the hotelier, was the evil nanny in The Omen. I have no idea how Edgar Wright was able to assemble this cast, but it’s brilliant.

That’s awesome. I’m also a Somerset local, although further from Wells.
The front desk guy at the police station is played by Bill Bailey, a popular British comic actor. He performed beautifully on Strictly Come Dancing (British Dancing With the Stars). He’s also a talented musician.
Bill was often on the British show QI.
This has quickly become my favorite reaction channel.
All positivity, no pessimism, and you're pretty funny too.
Thanks! ☺️👍
@@jenmurrayxo 🙂✌You're welcome!
Yes Jenny Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are big friends in real life as for Timothy Dalton you should try The Rocketeer and Flash Gordon.
“By the power of Greyskull” is a reference to the 80’s cartoon “He-man”
You should definatly watch the third one. It's a lot more "you'll love it or hate it" but it's worth watching to complete the series and really appreciate the range of Pegg and Frost. Such an amazing duo.
the third one reminds me so much of me and my mates back in England.
16:34 _'By the power of Grayskull'_ is a reference to He-Man. A very popular cartoon/toy in the 80's. A collaboration between Filmation and Mattel.
5:00 Dalton was in _The Beautician & The Beast._
I always find it hilarious that the Romeo & Juliet they perform is specifically based on the Baz Lehrman movie version with Leonardo Dicaprio and Claire Daines and that the Hound from Game of Thrones says "Yarp".
"By The Power Of Grayskull" is a "He-man And The Masters Of The Universe" cartoon reference.
Fun fact: the actor playing the doctor in Sandford, played the villain in Leathal Weapon 3.
Did Jen enjoy it? I'm going to say it's a Yarp!
Oh, thank Jehovah it's not a narp.
Well, Adam transforms into He-Man so this line is Adams...and it is called Castle Grayskull.
I enjoyed it more on my second watch of it.
Adam, Prince of Eternia
The show was called "He Man and the Masters of the Universe"
Another great Timothy Dalton movie is Flash Gordon, but it's a trip that some love and some don't love.
So glad you enjoyed this movie and your newfound background in action movies prepared you well. You'll likely enjoy a rewatch after you see Point Break and Bad Boys 1 and 2 (which you should!).
It took me a bit to come around on this one but I now love it equally to Shawn of the Dead. You should see the third as well, although I haven't yet decided if I love it.
Since I’m here, the trolly boy is The Hound from Game of Thrones, I’m such a nerd, one who loves this film.
Dalton played a good Prince Baron in the 80 or 81 Flash Gordon movie. And he had a good role in the Rocketeer which was released about 92, 93, or 94.
A GREAT Timothy Dalton film you need to see is THE ROCKETEER. You'll love it.
The first collaboration between Pegg, Frost, and Edgar, was a TV series called Spaced - there are two seasons of it and it's worth a watch.
"Decaffeinated?!" "He is NOT judge Judy and executioner!"
There was plenty of gruesomeness in this film, but the spike from the tower falling on that guy is on another level. 😯🤣
Beginning of movie - "I Love him! Oh I'm so happy he's in this." End of movie - "Timothy Dalton is super handsome and the worst." - Jen Murray
Hi Jen🙋♂️
Your motions of finding out your crush is the villain, but still handsome, must've been a roller coaster ride.
Thanks Jen🙋♂️🍾🥂🍾
Sorry for the long read.
This reaction really made my week! So glad you had a great time with this one Jen 😎
Hot Fuzz is a masterclass in quality movie-making.
Jen is becoming a quintessential anglophile... such a fun entertaining reaction/commentary yet again
We'll convert her to recognise all the cameos! No recognition for...
Olivia Coleman?
Edward Woodward?
Bill Bailey?
Martin Freeman?
Bill Nighy?
Doris is played by Olivia Colman who has since become quite the popular, award winning actress.
"He looks horrified!"
Simon Pegg is all of us who have seen Baz Luhrman's Romeo + Juliet. Lucy Punch's Juliet is hilarious though. BANG!
The DVD of this film (yep, I bought the whole trilogy) has a "pop up" function, wherein text appears at the bottom of the screen, indicating the insane number of references and Easter eggs in the film...there are, literally, dozens of them.
e.g.: A local couple are reported as giving birth to twins, named Roger and Martin,
the two names of Danny Glover and Mel Gibson in the Lethal Weapon series...
You should watch The Worlds End and complete the trilogy for the greater good.
The greater good. Yarp to a World's End reaction, & Spaced, Scott Pilgrim & Baby Driver. Edgar Wright is the best at those transitions.
These and World’s end is referred to as The Cornetto trilogy. There’s another movie with these two guys and an alien voiced by Seth Rogen called Paul.
This movie is even better on multiple rewatches. It's so full of setups you miss on the first go.
Also, "by the power of Grayskull" is a reference to He-man
Flash Gordan = Timothy Dalton IN TIGHTS!!! 😆
the making of is available on youtube, and Paddy Considine (1 of the Andies) does the interview in character. Timothy Dalton has said this was his favorite role to do out of all the movies he's done because everyone was a genuine fan of eachother's work.
Flash Gordon, Cromwell, and The Rocketeer are few notable movies where Timothy Dalton features.
By far my favorite of the trilogy. Hope you enjoyed it.
If you love the dashing Timothy Dalton, I would highly recommend Wuthering Heights (1970), Flash Gordon (1980), Brenda Starr (1989), The Rocketeer (1991), and The Beautician and the Beast (1997).
Also, don’t miss the TV miniseries Jane Eyre (1983).
loved your reaction to this modern classic. 1980 Flash Gordon also has Timothy Dalton. Cheers.
**Timoth Dalton is in the scene**
Clean-up, aisle Jen!
🤣 🤣
