As much as I have literally worshipped "Blazing Saddles" since I saw it in 1974, and "Young Frankenstein" nearly as much, "Spaceballs" never did much for me, for a couple of reasons. UNTIL - seeing it now with our Jen. Amazing how seeing something like this in the right setting can make all the difference.
The initial slow pan over Spaceball One is hilarious to watch in the theater. Everyone has their own giggle threshold for when they realize that it isn't stopping, so you hear someone giggle over there, and then a few seconds later someone else over *there* giggles, etc.
Great reaction! You got most of the best parts in this edit. You did seem to not pick up on the Wizard of Oz callbacks when the gang first met Yogurt. The four of them, walking forward but fearful, the flames, the booming intimidating voice, etc. So glad you did pick up on Planet of the Apes, Star Trek, and Lawrence of Arabia. Oh, the Dink Dinks were doing the Col. Bogey March from Bridge on the River Kwai. Yes, this was a big hit when released. Lots of fun to be had.
Great movie. There was a parody on Alien was in the end with the diner scene. They even brought the same actor John Heard Rip for that scene. Other great Mel Brooks spoof movies are : Robin Hood Men in tights and High Anxiety which is a spoof on classic Alfred Hitchcock movies like Psycho or The Birds which you obviously have to see before seeing it. Another great spoof movie you should see is Top Secret .
Every movie needs a Parody and this takes the cake! Mel Brooks is a genius and that sense of humor is just Wonderful. I thought it was going to be goofy but I loved it. Top notch comedy well worth your time.
@@eolsunderHardly the original parody. Blazing Saddles is a parody of Westerns from Mel Brooks in 1974 and even before that the original Casino Royale was a James Bond parody from the sixties. Young Frankenstein is a direct parody of the original Universal Horror Frankenstein if you want a strict parody and that was from 1974 too.
One movie reference I didn't expect you to catch, which is actually an underlying plot of this movie, is "It Happened One Night". I think you might enjoy it. The movie stars Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert.
This movie holds up so well, which is wild for being something both of the 80s and spoofing something from the 70s/80s! It's STILL so much fun and that themesong gets me every time :D Your realization for Planet of the Apes was fantastic too!

Those were all look-alikes in the Alien part, except for John Hurt, who basically had the same role. He did this scene as a peronal favor to Mel Brooks.
Michael Winslow who does all the beep beep beep sound. That is actually him doing all that himself. You should check out Police Academy. He does his impersonations in that movie too. He is a very funny comedian. My favorite John Candy movies you have to check out is Uncle Buck which is by John Hughes. Cool Runnings is another good John Candy movie
It always reminded me of The Wizard Of Oz. Especially when they met Yogurt. The Princess was Dorothey, The Droid was the Tin Man, Barf could be a replacement for the Lion, and Lone Star the Scarecrow.
18:58 is Tuvok from Star Trek Voyager George Lucas said Spaceballs can be made as long as Lone Star does not dress as Han Solo, so Mel made him dress as Indiana Jones Watch ALIEN from 1979 to see John Hurt and why he said "Not Again" Did you see the millennium falcon in the movie?
If you want more of the guy who did the sounds ( with his mouth) you should check out Police Acadamy ( 1984 ). He was huge back then just cause he could do incredible sounds during his standup. They also showed History of the World Part 1 another great Mel Brooks movie you should check out if you haven't yet. And yes the banter about when, now, then .... was a play on an old Abbott and Costello bit " Whose on First" Awesome reaction Jen :)
We laughed our butts off in the theater in high school when this came out! And yes, you should watch all the Rambo series! I like the first one and the last two the best! Thanks Jen!
It's so much more than just a Star Wars parody, let's see just how many movies Jen has seen... Lawrence of Arabia is an excellent introduction to the magnificent career of Peter O'Toole.
One of my all time favorite comedies. It was even funnier if you watched it as a kid. 😂 My friends and I still quote one-liners from this movie if the situation matches. Case-and-point, with a lot of cars and appliances breaking down quicker due to planned obsolescence, when something has problems or stops working we'll be like, "F***, even in the future nothing works!" Or if one of us is giving the others a hard time, we'll be like, "I knew it, I'm surrounded by assholes!" Classic movie. The Princess Bride of Sci-Fi.
31:33 "Are those the guys from it?" Essentially. The actor who says "Not again" is the exact same actor. The others in his crew aren't, and they aren't exactly lookalikes, but they're definitely "look-similars" with names that have some relation to their equivalent characters' names in Alien.
From Wikipedia: The film made money, but had mixed reviews. Moranis claimed in a 2013 interview that he and Brooks had discussed a potential sequel, with Moranis pitching the title Spaceballs III: The Search for Spaceballs II. However, he and Brooks were unable to structure a deal that would allow the project to move forward.
Another great reaction from Jen, always love watching her laugh. FYI Skroob is an anagram of Brooks 😀. A John Candy movie that is a must watch is Uncle Buck, probably my favourite alongside Planes, Trains & Automobiles.
Things I didn't notice Jen commenting on: >Dark Helmet's tie (specifically what it looks like). >Dot Matrix was voiced by Joan Rivers >I could have sworn that the Millennium Falcon was parked at the diner at the end but I didn't see it. So either I'm misremembering, or it was behind Jen's head. >In case you were wondering why/how the special effects were so good, George Lucas let Mel Brooks use ILM (Industrial Light and Magic; the SFX company Lucas created for Star Wars and his other movies)
9:07 I can see you have never watched Police Academy before 😊 His name is Michael Winslow. Also the "we ain't found shit!" soldier is Tim Russ who played Tuvok on Star Trek Voyager.
The alien creature's singing in the Diner is a nod to "One Froggy Evening," a 1955 cartoon which would be played on Saturday morning TV (Looney Tunes) for years.
Hey Jen. The actor from the Alien Chestburster scene was in fact John Hurt from Alien. That's why he said "not again". Also, the song and dance is a spoof of an old Looney Toons cartoon of Michigan J. Frog. The frog pops out of a box, grabs a cane and top hat, then sings that song, among others.
Fun fact, Jen: George Lucas was fine with a Han Solo parody, as long as he didn’t dress like him. So Mel Brooks dressed him up like *Indiana Jones* instead. 😉
This one was a childhood favorite and is also my nephew's favorite comedy. It's such a weird combination of brilliant humor and so dumb that you just have to laugh. I especially love the "Aliens," scene and how they actually got John Hurt for it. 🤣 Mel Brooks films are always worth a watch. In addition to Blazing Saddles, I'd recommend Young Frankenstein, The Producers and Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
GREAT reaction, Jen 🖒🖒 Your personal oneliners are always absolutely hilarious, and this one certainly did not disappoint! "Right in the spaceballs" and the "crossing streams" had me LOL 😂😂😂
18:50 - one little easy-to-miss bit from the "Comb the Desert" scene is that Dark Helmet uses the megaphone to talk to Colonel Sandurz, right next to him, while yelling at the far-away guys doing the combing.
Like pressed! Yes, Jen, more old Planet of the Apes series, please. In this film, did you catch the "Wilhelm scream" at 23:48? George Lucas liked to use that sound effect as kind of an inside joke, and I guess Mel Brooks used it as an inside-inside joke.
The guy at 8:40 was a comedian who was famous for doing amazing sound effects like that using his voice alone. His most famous role was in the "Police Academy" movies.
Not only do you need to watch Young Frankenstein, but also the original 60's movie of The Producers, History of the World, part 1 (at first there wasn't a continuation, but Mel Brooks actually did produce a part 2 which has been made into a TV-show/miniseries which will either come out this year or next year), High Anxiety (which parodies Hitchcock movies), Robin Hood: Men in Tights & Dracula: Dead And Loving It. There's also three very underrated, but also funny Mel Brooks movies that's worth a watch: Twelve Chairs, Silent Movie (parodies the silent movie-genre) & Life Stinks. Also, you need to check out Michael Winslow, the guy with the voices, in the Police Academy movies where he's mostly known for.
Loving the reaction again Jen! By the way, Schwartz is slang for male genitalia (hence the lightsaber hand placement and Dark Helmet's "choking" habits) but it was also Mel Brooks' attorney's name. So "may the Schwartz be with you" was also Mel Brooks saying "hope you have a great attorney".
You mean "Schwantz" (lit. tail). Schwartz (black) is Yiddish colloqualism for not quite legal stuff. Derived from the "black market" - "to schwartz something/someone through" meant to smuggle something or someone.

Don't know whether he's active now, but I do know he took time off after the death of his wife, to raise his kid. In case some didn't know.
I feel much the same.
Jen would love "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids"
I appreciate Jen's ability to make movie connections so thoroughly and on the fly. She's got the brain for film.
Spaceballs is one of those movies where you can watch it over and over again and never get tired of it. Mel Brooks created an absolute gem, I also loved all the little Easter eggs to other movies.
Yep, seen it dozens of times, always spot a gag I'd missed. Jen's reaction is why I finally noticed the Princess' mercedes license plate.
Spaceballs and now Hot fuzz
@@WithTwoFlakes Likewise, I don't think I ever before noticed the Spaceballs place mat in the cafe.
I agree, I have watched Spaceballs more than half a dozen times. It never gets old, and is a great source of oneliners.
I agree with you 💯%, this gem of a movie NEVER gets tedious; it's the epitome of guilty pleasures.
I think this is the first reaction to this movie I've seen where the person has actually seen all the movies referenced.
The Spaceballs guy who did the radar sound effects is Michel Winslow, he is in Police Academy and was written into the script when they found out how good he is at sound effects
08:37 Behold the awesome presence of the legend, the one and only Michael Winslow. Co-Star in Police Academy and the official god of beatboxing. The man with a million noises, voices and entertainment choices. Watch his stand up acts. He plays the electric guitar without a guitar! I mean it! He is a legit phenomenon!
First saw him as a kid watching Police Academy, he was my favourite character.
It's so funny when I watch an old movie that I haven't seen in many years and hear the Wilhelm Scream. Didn't even know it was in this movie until I watched your reaction Jen. Take care
4:36 I love how Jen pronounces "dog" as "dowg."
This is my dog accent I use when I talk to my own dog lol :)
@@jenmurrayxo Every time I see a dog pop up in a movie, I instinctively now say out loud: "A dowg!!!"
Please continue with Rambo: First Blood Part 2! This is such a classic... and another great reaction! Cheers!
Rambo I to III were classics absoluely to be checked on, after that it was repetitive...😒
Bridge on the River Kwai, another movie to watch. It has Obi-Wan in it, after a fashion.
That was John Hurt from Alien in the diner
Great movie. There was a parody on Alien was in the end with the diner scene. They even brought the same actor John Heard Rip for that scene. Other great Mel Brooks spoof movies are : Robin Hood Men in tights and High Anxiety which is a spoof on classic Alfred Hitchcock movies like Psycho or The Birds which you obviously have to see before seeing it. Another great spoof movie you should see is Top Secret .
One of the few reactions to this movie that got the Prince Vallium yawning joke virtually immediately.
My cousin had this on vhs and put it in my movie box. I put it in at like 5 years old and thought it was an official SW movie 😂
Every movie needs a Parody and this takes the cake! Mel Brooks is a genius and that sense of humor is just Wonderful. I thought it was going to be goofy but I loved it. Top notch comedy well worth your time.
Spaceballs was the originial parody and was cute and fun take on star wars and the other sci fi stuff. Then later came the king Galaxy Quest.
It's STILL so much fun and that themesong gets me every time :D
Your realization for Planet of the Apes was fantastic too!
Such good memories 😂 My mom and I used to give the imperial salute to reckless drivers in the street 😸 Loved your reaction and I'm si glad you got the references. Great video, thanks for sharing!
Those were all look-alikes in the Alien part, except for John Hurt, who basically had the same role. He did this scene as a peronal favor to Mel Brooks.
17:24 is a homage to the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz. The children's book was actually released in 1900.
The alien scene, the guy that was killed in this was the first one to die in alien
This is such a great comedy. I revisit this every time I'm in a mood 😂😂
18:58 is Tuvok from Star Trek Voyager
George Lucas said Spaceballs can be made as long as Lone Star does not dress as Han Solo, so Mel made him dress as Indiana Jones
Watch ALIEN from 1979 to see John Hurt and why he said "Not Again"
Did you see the millennium falcon in the movie?
I may not be a Fan of most Parodies, but I could never resist this one...and it's still one of the Funniest Movies that I've ever seen!👍
And yes the banter about when, now, then .... was a play on an old Abbott and Costello bit " Whose on First"
Awesome reaction Jen :)
We laughed our butts off in the theater in high school when this came out! And yes, you should watch all the Rambo series! I like the first one and the last two the best! Thanks Jen!
I can’t even explain how happy I get when watching your reactions and how excited you get!
It's so much more than just a Star Wars parody, let's see just how many movies Jen has seen... Lawrence of Arabia is an excellent introduction to the magnificent career of Peter O'Toole.
One of my all time favorite comedies. It was even funnier if you watched it as a kid. 😂
My friends and I still quote one-liners from this movie if the situation matches.
Case-and-point, with a lot of cars and appliances breaking down quicker due to planned obsolescence, when something has problems or stops working we'll be like, "F***, even in the future nothing works!"
Or if one of us is giving the others a hard time, we'll be like, "I knew it, I'm surrounded by assholes!"
Classic movie.
I can’t blame Kane for going with a different crew after what happened, but he just can’t seem to escape his fate. 😄
From Wikipedia:
The film made money, but had mixed reviews.
John Candy is a Canadian national treasure. Yes! More John Candy!!! Watch Uncle Buck, The Great Outdoors, Canadian Bacon, Cool Runnings.
One of my all time favourite films, whenever somebody reacts to it i have to watch lol
You would like John Candy in The Great outdoors,, Brewster's millions, and splash
One of the first "funny foreign movies" I watched and it's got a special place in my heart since then. May the schwartz always be with you Jen.
Things I didn't notice Jen commenting on:
>Dark Helmet's tie (specifically what it looks like).
>Dot Matrix was voiced by Joan Rivers
>I could have sworn that the Millennium Falcon was parked at the diner at the end but I didn't see it.
The best reaction to Spaceballs on RUclips. No one else gets the jokes. Thank you for this!
I saw it in the theater, I think it was a hit. :) Love your reactions!
Fun fact, Jen: George Lucas was fine with a Han Solo parody, as long as he didn’t dress like him.
So Mel Brooks dressed him up like *Indiana Jones* instead. 😉
3 mins in and "right in the space balls" this is why we watch JEN
This one was a childhood favorite and is also my nephew's favorite comedy. It's such a weird combination of brilliant humor and so dumb that you just have to laugh. I especially love the "Aliens," scene and how they actually got John Hurt for it. 🤣
Mel Brooks films are always worth a watch. In addition to Blazing Saddles, I'd recommend Young Frankenstein, The Producers and Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
the guy doing the voice effects is named michael winslow his is a actual legend
GREAT reaction, Jen 🖒🖒
Your personal oneliners are always absolutely hilarious, and this one certainly did not disappoint!
"Right in the spaceballs" and the "crossing streams" had me LOL
😂😂😂
18:50 - one little easy-to-miss bit from the "Comb the Desert" scene is that Dark Helmet uses the megaphone to talk to Colonel Sandurz, right next to him, while yelling at the far-away guys doing the combing.
Like pressed! Yes, Jen, more old Planet of the Apes series, please. In this film, did you catch the "Wilhelm scream" at 23:48? George Lucas liked to use that sound effect as kind of an inside joke, and I guess Mel Brooks used it as an inside-inside joke.
If you want to see more of Michael Winslow(the sound effects guy), check out the Police Academy movies. Lol.
Just wanted to say, I can’t get enough of your fun personality
The guy at 8:40 was a comedian who was famous for doing amazing sound effects like that using his voice alone. His most famous role was in the "Police Academy" movies.
That was really John Hurt re-doing the Alien chestburster scene! Glad it was a PG version. The original scene was gruesome!
8:37 The dude who makes funny noises is Michael Winslow. Watch The Police Academy movie series for more, MUCH more 😁
This was a fun reaction! I loved how you got so many of the references. Great superman tshirt
