I'm just curious. Do people remember that the chestburster is another Loony Toons/Merrie Melodies joke, like Bugs Bunny in Blazing Saddles? I never see a comment explaining that in these Spaceballs reactions.
@@mgordon1100 I remember that more because back in the days of the WB, they had Washington J. Frog as their mascot, and he did his little song and dance in commercials sometimes.

Michael Winslow is so great live as well. I got lucky and saw him perform in a comedy club. Blew me away even though I'd seen him on tv and movies before. so awesome!
My favorite little detail in the "comb the desert" scene, is that Helmet uses a megaphone to talk to Sanderz, who is literally right next to him, and puts it down to yell out to the crew.
My favorite little detail in the "comb the desert" scene is the guy that shouts out "We ain't found shit!" is Tim Russ, who played Tuvak in Star Trek - Voyager
The whole bit with Rick Moranis only doing the James Earl Jones' "Darth Vader" imitation when the visor was down was an on-set improvisation by Rick when they were filming the first scene. It cracked up the entire crew, including Mel Brooks himself, and Mel told him to keep doing it for the whole movie. 🙂
The director gave Moranis a LOT of free space to work with his character to make him VERY funny. My all time favorite is when he's playing with his action figures and gets caught by Sandurz. He shouts "Did you see anything?" "No sir! I only saw you playing with your toys!"
On an additional note, Mel Brooks did plan on a sequel to this, but Rick Moranis's wife died, and he took a long break from acting. Moranis would have returned for the sequel anyway, but his asking price was higher than the studio was willing to go (He wanted a payday high enough to provide great opportunities for his kids in his absence). The sequel was to be called Spaceballs 3: The Search for Spaceballs 2, and it would have leaned harder on Star Trek than Star Wars.
Small detail many people miss. At the space diner (the alien scene) when they show you the shot from space of the diner, you can see Millennium Falcon parked for a few frames. Also Prince Valium = sleepy guy as in Valium the medicine
I love that you are surprised by all the standard Mel Brooks tropes. The C-3PO is JoanRivers. You didn’t include my favorite line from John Candy “I’m half dog and half human, I’m my own best friend” 😂😂😂
This is probably the best Spaceballs reaction i have ever seen. So many other reactors seem to gloss over or miss so many great jokes The Alien guy was the same guy from Alien that's why he said not again Also the Millennium Falcon is parked at the dinner
There are so many jokes in this movie you aren't going to get them all in one sitting. The most obscure that I've picked up on was when they began the metamorphosis and Dark Helmet goes "Ready, Kafka?" There's a book called the metamorphosis that's written by Franz Kafka where a man wakes up one morning discovering he's become a human sized fly.
@@vampg8r One I only noticed very recently was when Helmet was getting ready to attack the Winnebago, and he said, "Prepare to attack ..." If you look at the guards standing on the upper platform at the end of the room, they all readied their guns in preparation for an attack.
My personal favorite line is from the Comb the Desert scene: "What about you? Find anything?" "We ain't found sh!t!" The trooper was played by Tim Russ, who would go on to play the Vulcan Second Officer Tuvok on Star Trek: Voyager.
Fun fact - if you ever watch the director's cut with full commentary from Mel Brooks, he mentions the idea for Mr. Coffee came from him filming movie AFTER movie and having to reshoot scenes when people would notice a styrofoam cup lying around on the set. So he wrote the joke in and early in the movie so that if they shot any scenes and there was a cup lying around they wouldn't have to reshoot it all because of a stupid cup.
i don't know how much sense this will make but i love your laugh to the "Colonel Sandurz Chicken" part because you seemed genuinely happy about the joke instead of just laughing. I'm glad you make these reactions so we can watch these movies with you because your reactions make it a lot more fun!
The lore behind this movie is massive. George Lucas and Mel Brooks had a whole meeting about this being made and one of the stipulations was Mel promised they wouldn't do any merchandise, instead he put a whole scene in the movie about it. So many amazing BTS stories, you should look them up
Honestly, yours is the best reaction I've seen for "Spaceballs"! You got all the jokes, and you understood almost all the references. When I was a teen I had this movie on regular rotation along with "The Princess Bride" and "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". Thanks for putting yourself out there!
First time my nephew watched this he busted up laughing at the "if you can read this you don't need glasses" I was watching it at 5 in the morning and didn't know he was awake on the top bunk bead in my room.
men in tights used to have that on VHS and wore the hell out of it, now I got the DVD. same with Princess bride the actor Cary Elwes is such a great actor, plus they both have awesome stories.
Since you've never seen a Mel Brooks movie before, you absolutely need to put Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein on your list. High Anxiety is also great, but you'll appreciate it a lot more if you're familiar with certain Alfred Hitchcock movies (Psycho, The Birds, Vertigo and Spellbound) since it spoofs them.
@@TheMirandalorianReacts Gotta remember that movie could only be made back in the 70s😂😂😂 it couldn't be made today due to social stuff has changed since then
It warms my heart to see you enjoy Mel Brooks. As a 40+ person I watched these movies when they were considered classics in MY youth! I hope your reviews get a billion views!
Mel Brooks plays a role or two in each of his movies. His movie Blazing Saddles is worth watching. Some people think the movie is racist, but it makes fun of racism more than it supports it.
I’ll be honest, the “Prepare for metamorphosis! Call Kafka!” riff has always slayed me. Sometimes it’s the smart jokes as much as the low brow. But yeah, funny movie. This was actually my first Mel Brooks movie way back in the 80s! How lucky you are for all that is ahead.
The thing about mel brook's stuff is - it'll go from sophmoric bathroom humor to completely intellectual humor in the same scene. No race is safe, no creed is safe - if it can get a laugh? Everyone is a target... Brooks would go there. I love his work.
A piece of trivia about the movie ...When Mel Brooks approached George Lucas about making this movie, Lucas had a couple of stipulations ... One of them was, the characters in the Spaceballs movie could not look exactly like the Star Wars characters ... So, Mel Brooks dressed Lone Star as Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford's other iconic role).
It's safe to say you're among the best reactors out there: sensitive, smart, warm, and attentive to many details most people don't notice. Keep up the good job!
So I've just started following you, and I can tell our sense of humors run the same path, I'm looking forward to enjoying a lot of comedy movies with you! Can't wait
My dad's high school yearbook quote was "Evil will always triumph, because good is dumb." During the pandemic, he was wearing Spaceballs the Mask. He also has Spaceballs the sheets. Yeah, there was zero chance of me _not_ seeing this by my 8th birthday. ✌🤓
"Fooled you!" Rick Moranis makes the movie for me. Every Dark Helmet scene is hilarious, and his helmet voice cracks me up every time when he suddenly shifts from his New York accent.
Mel has a strict rule of only spoofing the genres he loves, and you can see how much he loves his classic sci-fi. Oddly though, my favourite of his is The Producers - not a parody, but there's so much theatrical folklore in it that no musicals person can fail to love it.
"He looks familiar too... His reaction!" Stephen Tobolowsky crushes his one scene as the pompous spaceball captain 🤣🤣🤣 The way he gasps at the sight of the stunt doubles! He's in a ton of great stuff, so I have always enjoyed seeing him pop up since watching Spaceballs as a kid.
@@hlarks 'Ned Ryerson!' *punch* - never fails to make me laugh. I always wonder in the end if Bill's character got stuck with all the insurance policies he signed and that makes the ending rather bittersweet for me.
Not only that, the "locked" high speed mode, that you have to kinda hack to get access to. (it's not hard to do, it's just not factory available because it drains the batteries really fast) is called "Ludicrous Speed" on the screen in the car...

I envy you so much that you can experience Mel Brooks films for the first time. I grew up watching all of his stuff and if you decide to explore it all you are in for a treat. I really enjoyed watching your reactions and laughing along with you. I highly recommend Blazing Saddles, Men in Tights, History of the World 1, and all his other great work.
I am German but I grew up in the states. I had a German friend Visit me he could not speak one word english but we watched History of the World and even thou he did not understand one word he non stop laughed troughout the whole movie.
love your reactions, another strong recommendation for Blazing Saddles and also History of the World part 1. Yes that was John Hurt who played Ollivander, I thought you might have recognised him from Alien, he was the first person to have a chestburster come out, which is why he said "oh no not again"
@@TheMirandalorianReacts As an example of "going the extra mile," his crew-mates in the diner are clearly analogs to the equivalent characters in Aliens.
@@TheMirandalorianReacts I'm new here, so I haven't looked at your reaction list or gotten to "know" you through said reactions. My apologies if you have brought this up in the past, but for John Hurt, if you watch(ed) Doctor Who at all, particularly the 50th anniversary special ten years ago, he played "The War Doctor" in that as well. He was also the head of the government in V for Vendetta. In short, he had an amazing career and died too young...even when he was in his 70's!
To see full extent of radar guy's (Michael Winslow) vocal sound effects skills, watch the Police Academy movies. Me and siblings can do this movie (and a couple others) front to back. Messing up a line back in response was grounds for suspension for a while as kids.
As a kid, this was one of my favorite movies. It came out when I was about 7...yeah I was weird and still am. Brooks's humour just fits with me so well. Happy you enjoyed this classic too.
Rick Moranis is so great as Dark Helmet, switching from kinda threatening to being super pathetic.😂 Also can't wait for more Mel Brooks. Young Frankenstein is my favourite.
If you liked the guy who made the sound effects during the "jammed scene" then look up "Michael Winslow". The guy is hilarious and he does all of his own sound effects himself. He was in the "Police Academy" movies back in the 80's. I saw him live back in the 90's doing stand up comedy and he had my friend an me laughing so hard.
High Anxiety is one of my favorite Mel Brooks movies for the simple reason that it is one of his only movies where Mel himself plays the lead. Can't recommend it enough. Also, both versions of The Producers. I personally prefer the remake since I saw it first but holy shit, they are both amazing.
The problem with "High Anxiety" is that you really need to know your Hitchcock to get what's going on: the first time I saw it I hadn't seen anything other than "Psycho" and the "The Birds". "High Anxiety" came off as dull and nonsensical. After seeing a few Hitchcock movies, I got it and thought it was really, really funny and also well done. I like the original "Producers": it's clean, spare and wastes very little time in getting us from one point to another; the script and the priceless cast sell themselves deftly and with dry, dark humor. The re-make is wonderful but, I think, overdone; and whether or not he's dated, LSD from the original is part of what completes things, and not having him in the newer version unmakes things for me a bit.
I was smiling throughout your whole reaction. It's just so satisfying to see someone get and appreciate a silly awesome movie like this. This was my favourite Mel Brooks movie though he has made other great ones. Please keep doing these.
The jamed radar joke goes two levels. Of course the jam itself, but it's also raspberry jam, so hence lone star is giving dark helmet the raspberries.. KEEP FIRING ASSHOLES! 😂🤣😂
"I knew it I'm surrounded by assholes!" 13 year old me was on the ground laughing for several minutes at that joke. Still the funniest part of the movie. Mel Brooks went to George Lucas to get his blessing to do this movie. His only condition was no merchandising as spaceballs action figures would be too close to star wars. Mel had no plans to do any merchandising but that condition gave him the idea to make it a gag in the movie. By all accounts George Lucas loved the movie. Rick Moranis ad-libbed the scene playing with the dolls. They were part of the merchandising gag and just grabbed them and he did that.
Technically George Lucas had a hand in this movie. All the post-production (special effects and sound) was done by the same companies that made Star Wars! Hence why those effects look so good.
also a fun continuity of that scene, the guy who got ball zapped earlier was an asshole. his replacement is not, and did not stand up during this scene
If this is your first introduction to Mel Brooks, I really envy the journey of discovery awaiting you :) I'd love to watch stuff like this and Blazing saddles again for the first time. You're in for a really, really good time :)
@@TheMirandalorianReacts Mel Brooks' first movie, criminally under-reacted to, is called The Producers, and it's as funny as the rest. Plus it has Gene Wilder in it too.
The first time I saw this was in theater and the person I watched it with leaned over and asked me "What does that say" when the "If you can read this you don't need glasses" line came up. Turned out, he did!
This video came up on my suggested page and having been in your shoes long ago, I wanted to see your reactions. Glad I did. Brought some smiles and laughs. Thank you!
History of the world part 1 is highly underrated in my opinion. The levels of ridiculous are just phenomenal, and Mel Brooks is a genius. There's a part 2 miniseries that came out last year on Hulu, but I haven't been able to watch that as yet... Can't wait to see what you watch next 😊
Mel Brooks is the master of meta. He doesn't just break the fourth wall, he obliterates it! There's at least one in every movie, and it's flawlessly timed! Young Frankenstein is the funniest movie of all time and space! (IMO). Blazing Saddles is also incredible. But other must-see Mel movies are "High Anxiety" (Hitchcock parody), "History of the World Part One", and Robin Hood: Men in Tights".
Had a feeling you would like this. I love that there's no effects on Rick Moranis's voice when the helmet's down. It's just a voice he does. 😂 Also, the guy who plays King Roland is Dick Van Patten, who was a big comedic actor in the old days. One of my favorite moments in this film, which I didn't even catch the first time (you may have noticed while editing), is when they're reading back the combination to the air shield and he's just staring at the camera and nodding, but he almost loses it. You can tell he wants to laugh so bad, and it always makes me wonder about the takes they didn't use. This movie is VERY funny, but I still think I prefer Young Frankenstein (which also stars Gene Wilder btw).
I love your energy throughout! Getting to share one of my personal faves was such a joyous experience for me. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Your smile warms my heart. ❤😊
Robin Hood: Men In Tights is by far my favorite Mel Brooks movie (partly due to the fact that it was my FIRST Mel Brooks movie, iirc)! Cary Elwes turned out a performance that was as funny as his portrayal of Westley in The Princess Bride was endearing! It *definitely* should go on your watchlist!
Great reaction for a great movie, as usual😁 If you love Martin Short and non-stop jokes movies like this, I highly recommend "Three Amigos" along with Steve Martin and Chevy Chase. Criminally underrated crazy movie from John Landis himself😎 Take care and stay awesome🤗
Excellent reaction! Very happy that you enjoyed this one so much. :) I first watched this as a kid when it was new. Now - two months later you've continued on your Mel Brooks journey - this one ranks either as my TOP favorite or second favorite, of his movies! :)
this was maybe my favorite reaction video ever. I loved how much you loved this movie. your enjoyment really made it feel like I was watching it again for the first time. thanks so much
So glad you reacted to this! I've seen Spaceballs so many times I pretty much know it by heart. I think to me you're probably the most anticipated to check this movie out because your humor and laughter is infectious to me. So many inappropriate jokes for the young ones to watch, so inappropriate that it's comedy gold! Glad to see this one on your channel!!! I've tried so many times to be Dark Helmet for Halloween with the Styrofoam cup but could never get it right, lol.
Your reactions were perfect! Your timing matched Mel's so many times it was hilarious! Thank you! Looking forward to Blazing Saddles where I assume your head will explode!
That one is my favorite too, maybe because I also love the old Universal Monster movies, but it's funny whether someone has seen the old Frankenstein film or not.
@@shawnpatrick1877 A couple moments in it are subtle satire on the original that people unfamiliar would miss, but yes it is still very funny if you aren't.
This is easily in the Top 5 movies for me. I've seen it more times than I can possibly count. It's great to see someone enjoy this film for the first time.
Your reaction was a treat! This was clearly right up your alley, and you caught everything it threw at you. The other movie references: Lawrence of Arabia for the music while wandering in the desert, and Bridge on the River Kwai for the tune the Dink Dinks were dinking. So glad you got the Wizard of Oz and Planet of the Apes references, many reactors don't. I assume you recognized Michigan J. Frog's singing from One Froggy Evening as the chest burster exited. I was laughing nonstop right along with you. This was delightful. Along with this and the two you mentioned, my fourth Mel Brooks movie in a pretty close tie is History of the World Part I. Once you start it is hard to stop. Looking forward to that Blazing Saddles reaction! Edit: You'll get over the pizza thing, we all do.
The story of the dancing singing frog in the W.B. cartoon is a guy sees him doing it, thinks he'll get rich promoting it, but every time the frog is put on stage, he just sits there like a normal frog, and people assume the guy's trying to trick them out of money.
I just want to tell you that you are totally excused for any actors not recognized by you. I love your channel because your laughter is infectious and delightful. That's why i am a subscriber. Keep up the sweet workings. By the way I'm lucky to have seen nearly all of Mel Brooks' in the theaters when they were released. Great memories with your reactions.
Bless your heart, if this is your first Mel Brooks' movie, you're not just getting ready to go down a rabbit hole but you're getting ready to get into all of Wonderland. Even the movies that are not thought of as being too great are still hilaious. When making the deal with Lucas, he said Mel couldn't use a Han Solo look-a-like, so Mel made him look like Indiana Jones. You're the first "young-un" I've seen react to get get most of the referreces, well done. Others have listed the movies to watch, so I won't repeat them.
I'm really happy someone so younger than I liked this masterpiece. I hope you brought attention to movies like this to your audience. I loved this video 🖖
YAS Kween! Miranda I love you! This is one of my favorite Mel Brooks films and I am so glad that you enjoyed it. I also wanted to give you a heads up... as of June 18th 2024 Spaceballs 2 has been officially announced and is in development. No word yet on whether or not, Rick Moranis will return.
Great reaction. I read the book before I saw the movie and it was also great. The opening with Spaceball 1 was because all the Star Wars films opened with a Star Destroyer and started off the 'big ship' trend. In the book, they carried that off by having an entire half page dedicated to the line "the huge engines pushing section, after section, after section, after section, after section, after section, after section, after section......" etc.
Man, Top Secret and Clue and Rocky Horror Picture Show have got to also be on your watch list (although I'm guessing you've likely seen Rocky Horror) as they're all absolutely fantastic!
I would put in a vote for “The Producers” (1967). It also stars Gene Wilder and the incomparable Zero Mostel. This is my absolute favourite Mel Brooks film. I am sure you will also like the 2005 musical remake with Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane, but I recommend starting with the original.
I watched this for the first time on VHS with my brother when I was about 10 years old back in 1988 (I think?). Several times throughout the movie we laughed so hard that we could barely breathe. This is one of my favorite movies of all time! It's fun to "watch along" with you and see someone from a younger generation get to watch this for the first time 🙂
You should've added that scene that was referenced at the 15:55 mark. That scene involving the video cassette is really funny to watch and one that will make anyone stumble.

Comedy is about timing. The beginning is an example of a masterpiece of timing, when the spaceship just goes on and on and on. I first watched this as movie theater and everyone was in stiches.
My favorite movies of Brooks' as a kid were Robin Hood Men in Tights and Dracula: Dead and Loving It; both are a bit less beloved by the overall collection of Brooks' fans but they still have a huge rewatchability and nostalgia factor for me and parodied stories/movies I was really familiar with when I was younger. As an adult I absolutely prefer Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein but honestly I don't think there's a single dud among his movies.
Absolutely loved your reaction! Blazing Saddles was always my favorite, but all of them are hilarious and fantastic comedies. This movie has some of the greatest comedic moments in history thanks to Rick Moranis' Dark Helmet.

@@jaimem1888 Tuvok :)
@@jaimem1888 Yes but ironicly he is better known from this scene fram Spaceballs.
I think it’s hilarious that the white guards use a comb and the black guards use a pick😂
That's what makes it hilarious
@@largol33t12 Moranis' expression after Sandurz leaves, when he realizes the implications of their conversation, is incredible.
Shame it never got made but as they say life is what happens when your planning for something else.
Rick Moranis has turned out to be a total prick
Thanks for the info. maybe someday Spaceballs will have that sequel. I will be camping out for front row seats.
There was a short lived Spaceballs animated series that took place of Spaceballs 2/3
I'm surprised by this because this movie bombed at the box office.
*half man half dog
This is called Test of time. A movie this old still makes you laugh for the first time seeing it. It has pass the test. :)
This is probably the best Spaceballs reaction i have ever seen.
So many other reactors seem to gloss over or miss so many great jokes
The Alien guy was the same guy from Alien that's why he said not again
Also the Millennium Falcon is parked at the dinner
After Airplane, I REALLY try to pay attention! It also helps that I grew up with friends & family that were really funny & joked alot!!
My personal favorite line is from the Comb the Desert scene:
"What about you? Find anything?"
"We ain't found sh!t!"
The trooper was played by Tim Russ, who would go on to play the Vulcan Second Officer Tuvok on Star Trek: Voyager.
For some reason that scene and line always comes back to me when I am scooping the litter box.
we quote it often in our household as well...
My favourite joke is when the abandon the Industrial Strength Hairdryer, but still take the now empty trunk that it was in.
Fun fact - if you ever watch the director's cut with full commentary from Mel Brooks, he mentions the idea for Mr. Coffee came from him filming movie AFTER movie and having to reshoot scenes when people would notice a styrofoam cup lying around on the set. So he wrote the joke in and early in the movie so that if they shot any scenes and there was a cup lying around they wouldn't have to reshoot it all because of a stupid cup.
lol that’s awesome!!!! 😂
i don't know how much sense this will make but i love your laugh to the "Colonel Sandurz Chicken" part because you seemed genuinely happy about the joke instead of just laughing.
When it comes to Mel Brooks both Young Frankenstein and Robin Hood: Men in Tights are some of the fines comedies ever and well worth a watch.
First time my nephew watched this he busted up laughing at the "if you can read this you don't need glasses" I was watching it at 5 in the morning and didn't know he was awake on the top bunk bead in my room.
Another great one is Dracula: Dead and loving it.
Franken - STEEN
Yeah but men it tights it helps if you watch prince of thieves first
men in tights used to have that on VHS and wore the hell out of it, now I got the DVD. same with Princess bride the actor Cary Elwes is such a great actor, plus they both have awesome stories.
Since you've never seen a Mel Brooks movie before, you absolutely need to put Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein on your list. High Anxiety is also great, but you'll appreciate it a lot more if you're familiar with certain Alfred Hitchcock movies (Psycho, The Birds, Vertigo and Spellbound) since it spoofs them.
i JUST watched blazing saddles today actually, and OH MY LORDDDD LMAOOOO! i'm sending it over to my editor today! pray for them lmfaoooooo
"History of the World, Part 1" is my personal favourate of his, but I have always loved history.
@@RedKytten Definitely a great one!
@@TheMirandalorianReacts Gotta remember that movie could only be made back in the 70s😂😂😂 it couldn't be made today due to social stuff has changed since then

Mel Brooks has been my favorite producer of comedy.
You’re rocking this channel.
Keep it up.
Except Young Frankenstein, which nonappearance was a condition star Gene Wilder required to do the film.
@@flarrfanhe does do an offscreen voice though
He does in The Producers, but I don't remember one in Young Frankenstein.
@@flarrfan His still in the flick. When the darts go through the window and you hear a cat yell, that Mel doing the cat sound.
@@gonzo6489 OK I remember reading that now, but not sure that counts as his "voice", vs. the voice you clearly hear in The Producers.
And the other stipulation was no merchandise could be sold, as to not to interfere with Star Wars merchandise sells.
@@ki5aokWhich is why Mel included the ridiculous amount of over the top merchandise in the movie!

Rick Moranis makes the movie for me. Every Dark Helmet scene is hilarious, and his helmet voice cracks me up every time when he suddenly shifts from his New York accent.
Also it is hilarious that he switches to a Jamaican accent when he is goofing on Lone Star for falling for the "handshake".
The Doll Scene is PEAK comedy.
Mel has a strict rule of only spoofing the genres he loves, and you can see how much he loves his classic sci-fi. Oddly though, my favourite of his is The Producers - not a parody, but there's so much theatrical folklore in it that no musicals person can fail to love it.
I always saw the Producers as a parody of Theatre. Overly dramatic and needy actors, shady producers, questionable ethics on the playwriters, etc.
Okay, haven't started the actual reaction yet, but FIRST MEL BROOKS MOVIE!>??!>!? I am so here for this!
Rip john candy, Joan rivers, you really brought a lot of talent and laughs to this movie.
"He looks familiar too... His reaction!"
Stephen Tobolowsky crushes his one scene as the pompous spaceball captain 🤣🤣🤣 The way he gasps at the sight of the stunt doubles!
He's in a ton of great stuff, so I have always enjoyed seeing him pop up since watching Spaceballs as a kid.
I think, most famously, he played Ned Ryerson (needlenose Ned, Ned the head) in Groundhog Day.
@@hlarks He's wonderfully obnoxious as Ned Ryerson.
@@hlarks 'Ned Ryerson!' *punch* - never fails to make me laugh. I always wonder in the end if Bill's character got stuck with all the insurance policies he signed and that makes the ending rather bittersweet for me.
Tobolowsky was also in a band in high school called Cast of Thousands that featured a young Stevie Ray Vaughan on guitar.
As a tribute to the "Ludicrous speed" in the movie, Tesla named their high performance car model "Plaid".
Not only that, the "locked" high speed mode, that you have to kinda hack to get access to. (it's not hard to do, it's just not factory available because it drains the batteries really fast) is called "Ludicrous Speed" on the screen in the car...

love your reactions, another strong recommendation for Blazing Saddles and also History of the World part 1. Yes that was John Hurt who played Ollivander, I thought you might have recognised him from Alien, he was the first person to have a chestburster come out, which is why he said "oh no not again"
i watched Alien when I was really young (hahaaaa traumatizing), so I don't think I even knew who he was at that time, but that is a really cool fact!

To see full extent of radar guy's (Michael Winslow) vocal sound effects skills, watch the Police Academy movies.
Me and siblings can do this movie (and a couple others) front to back. Messing up a line back in response was grounds for suspension for a while as kids.
Rick Moranis as Dark Helmet really is one of the most inspired bits of casting you will ever see.
As a kid, this was one of my favorite movies. It came out when I was about 7...yeah I was weird and still am. Brooks's humour just fits with me so well. Happy you enjoyed this classic too.
Rick Moranis is so great as Dark Helmet, switching from kinda threatening to being super pathetic.😂

He does a fun impression of Led Zeppelin ( the whole band ).
I'm surprised he's still around and doing sounds. When I saw him on America's Got Talent, I was thinking, "Oh, man! Talk about a blast from the past!"
thought that was him just forgot his name.
I think he was also in 'Cheech and Chong's Next Movie'.
Gene's comedy rules. See the original. 1967

You're so good at getting Mel Brooks humor, I love it.
The jamed radar joke goes two levels. Of course the jam itself, but it's also raspberry jam, so hence lone star is giving dark helmet the raspberries.. KEEP FIRING ASSHOLES! 😂🤣😂
The guy manning the radar is the same one who played Motormouth Jones in the POLICE ACADEMY movies.
I just turned 13 again laughing at that same joke again and I’m almost 60. This truly is a classic.
also a fun continuity of that scene, the guy who got ball zapped earlier was an asshole. his replacement is not, and did not stand up during this scene

A German friend watched it with me and even thou he could not understand a word he laughed throuout the whole movie.

This is great timing! Young Frankenstein (1974) is Mel Brooks' best movie, and it's perfect for an October/Halloween reaction.
That one is my favorite too, maybe because I also love the old Universal Monster movies, but it's funny whether someone has seen the old Frankenstein film or not.

Comedy is about timing. The beginning is an example of a masterpiece of timing, when the spaceship just goes on and on and on. I first watched this as movie theater and everyone was in stiches.
And Rick Moranis is one of the funniest comedians ever.
