Hello, nice dudes! Today we checked out a classic comedy satire, Spaceballs (1987)! Directed by Mel Brooks and starring Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, and John Candy! This is our first Mel Brooks film, and it was an amazing start to his filmography. We truly couldn't stop laughing. Enjoy!

I feel the most misunderstood joke in this movie (at least by younger generations) is the alien baby putting on a hat and singing "Hello My Ragtime Gal". This is a reference to a 1955 Looney Tunes short titled "One Froggy Evening", where a guy finds a frog that randomly bursts into a song and dance number, but whenever the guy tries to show it to someone else the frog just sits there and doesn't do anything.

Regarding that sincere wholesome ending, I think that's very important in comedy: No matter how many jokes you cram in, you can't make a joke out of everything. Any good story, no matter how silly, needs to have something that feels real and meaningful. Mel Brooks was always very good at that. It's hard to be that consistently funny and still tell stories about people worth caring about.

This is my favorite Mel Brooks movie. He’s most known for Blazing Saddles and You g Frankenstein, but Spaceballs and Robin Hood Men in Tights are his best selling movies.
What really blew me away, when I learned about it, was that Rick Moranis was the one who recommended John Candy to play Barf. Because they had worked together on SCTV in Canada, in the late ‘70’s. Rest In Peace John Candy.

SCTV is a gem. Chevy Chase said it was one of the biggest influences for SNL. It had an amazing cast too, Rick Moranis, John Candy, Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, Catherine O'hara, Dave Thomas, Andrea Martin, Martin Short and Harold Ramis. I watched reruns in the 90's as a Canadian kid, and didn't get all the references but it was still a masterpiece.

So, if you want a Spaceballs shirt, you'll have to go to Esty or something.

"Stupid" is easily confused here with "Obvious". The jokes weren't stupid, they were obvious. 🙂

I'm about to be 42 and was raised by my grandparents. I absolutely love seeing the next generation rediscover the comedy classics.

I'll add my own fun fact: Rob Paulsen, voice of Yakko Warner, Raphael, Donatello, Carl Wheezer, and many others, voices the comber "Not a thing, Sir!" He also plays the soldier who helps up Helmet after they go ludicrous speed.

Your laugh is completely contagious, both of you. I can recite every word of this movie. I know everything that's coming. And I've seen a ton of reactions to it. But this is probably one of the best reactions I've seen in a long time, like before RUclips long time😉

This is literally one of my favourite movies, maybe even my favourite. It's just a perfect parody movie that makes me laugh every single time
